Joint Performance of Overseas Korean Artistes
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- A joint performance of overseas Korean artistes was given at the Pyongyang Grand Theatre on Feb. 17 to celebrate the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
Appreciating the performance were Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Il, Kim Yong Chun, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Yong Rim and others and working people in Pyongyang.
It was also enjoyed by members of congratulatory groups, delegations and visiting groups of overseas Koreans, including the congratulatory group of Koreans in Japan, and overseas compatriots.
Put on the stage of performance given by art troupes of Koreans in Japan, China and the United States and a party of Korean artistes in Canada were female vocal solo "Song Devoted to Comrade Kim Jong Il", mixed chorus "Single-minded Best Wishes", male vocal solo "General on a Galloping White Horse", violin solo "We Will Be Loyal Down through Generations", mixed chorus "Toward Year 2012" and other numbers.
The performance was applauded by the audience.
Kimjongilia Festival Full of Reverence for Great Man
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- The 12th Kimjongilia Festival, opened on Feb. 13, is being visited by a stream of people every day.
The festival venue presents an ecstasy decorated with Kimjongilias reflecting the best wishes of the Korean people and the world progressives for Kim Jong Il.
On display there are tens of thousands of immortal Kimjongilias presented by some hundred units including military organs, ministries and national institutions, soldiers of the Korean People's Army, working people of all strata and school youth and children, and overseas Koreans and foreigners.
The model of the Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu, and the exhibition stands like sun-rays shining from the Korean map made with Kimjongilias--they show well the will of all people to hold Kim Jong Il as the sun.
The current festival held in the significant year marking the 20th anniversary of naming the flower Kimjongilia is attended by many organizations of overseas Koreans, organizations of foreigners and individual figures.
Displayed there are 250 Kimjongilia pots sent by officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and Koreans in Japan and more than 200 Kimjongilia pots by Koreans in China.
Also seen in the flower festival are more than 300 Kimjongilia pots sent by 30-odd diplomatic missions in the DPRK including China, Russia, Cambodia and Indonesia, the European Union and other international organizations and friendship and solidarity organizations with Korean people including the Sweden−Korea Friendship Association and the Peruvian−Korean Institute of Culture and Friendship.
A company in Jilin Province of China exhibits more than a hundred Kimjongilia pots and the U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics immortal flowers reflecting their sincerity.
The flower festival proves the ever-deepening respect and reverence of all people for Kim Jong Il.
Anniversary of Visit Paid by Kim Il Sung together with Zhou Enlai to Thaekam Co-op Farm Marked
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- A meeting and a film show were held at the Taedonggang Club for the Diplomatic Corps Monday on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the visit paid by President Kim Il Sung together with Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai to the Thaekam Co-op Farm, Sunan District, Pyongyang.
On Feb. 19, Juche 47 (1958) Kim Il Sung together with Zhou Enlai on a visit to the DPRK looked round the Thaekam Co-op Farm (the then Sangyang Agricultural Co-operative), leaving immortal footprints to shine long in the history of the DPRK-China friendship.
Present there on invitation were Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and staff members of the Chinese embassy here.
Also present there were Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK-China Friendship Association, officials of the Management Board and members of the DPRK-China Friendship Thaekam Co-op Farm and officials concerned.
Mun Jae Chol in a speech said that the people of the DPRK sincerely hope that the traditional DPRK-China friendly relations will grow stronger as desired by Kim Il Sung and the revolutionaries of the elder generation of China and in the spirit of the agreement reached between the top leaders of the two countries, and will strive hard to this end.
Jong Myong Chol, chairman of the Management Board of the farm, in a speech recalled that the farm covered the road of steady progress as a symbol of the DPRK-China friendship, contributing to boosting the ties of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. He expressed thanks to the staff members of the Chinese embassy for visiting the farm every year and rendering aid to it.
Liu Xiaoming in a speech recalled that the bilateral friendship has displayed tremendous vitality under the deep care of the leaders of the two countries for the past 50 years and said that China would strive to make the Sino-DPRK friendly and cooperative relations yield richer fruits in order to inherit the tradition and carve out future.
At the end of the meeting the participants watched the first part of Korean documentary "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung Receives Foreign Heads of State and Prominent Figures".
State Symphony Orchestra, National Treasure
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- The State Symphony Orchestra of the DPRK is an art troupe valued at national treasure.
Founded on August 8, Juche 35(1946) under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung, the orchestra has covered a road of development that it can really be proud of.
Its history is not long, but it has grown into an orchestra of vast prospects with a group of top-notch instrumentalists and an excellent creative staff.
In the 1970s Kim Jong Il gave an energetic guidance to it to create an original mixed orchestra of Korean style, thus opening up a new horizon for the development of Juche-oriented symphony.
The symphony involves three orchestral groups in which such national instruments as saenap (a Korean brass wind instrument) and small gong thick in national flavor and peculiar in tone are mixed with western instruments. It is characteristic of rich and unique power of representation.
The symphonic works created by the State Symphony Orchestra are high in ideological and artistic plane and easy to understand. Typical among them are the symphony "The Sea of Blood", the piano concerto "Korea Is One", the orchestral pieces "My House in My Native Place", "Arirang", "A Girl on a Swing", "Mungyong Pass" and "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" and the violin concerto "Nostalgia".
The orchestral music "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" is enthusiastically acclaimed by the audience for its vivid depiction of the pulsating reality of the Korean socialist countryside and strongly appealing presentation of joy and optimism.
The orchestra has arranged or created more than 100 pieces of works including symphony, symphonic suite, orchestral music, concerto and instrumental sketch.
It has earned itself fame as a competent symphony orchestra which can present any musical work in a manner comparing favorably with the best performance. It also performs world's famous works.
It has given more than 20,000 performances at home and 200-odd performances in a number of countries including China, Japan, Germany, Bulgaria, Poland and Romania.
The State Symphony Orchestra was awarded Kim Il Sung Order twice. It is an art troupe of which the Koreans boast to the world with regard to its scale, the quality of its musical instruments, its plane of representation and performance.
Ever-Developing Juche-Oriented Musical Art of Korea
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- The Juche-oriented musical art of the DPRK is flowering in full in the Songun era, ushering in a new age of national prosperity with its great power of influence and attraction.
The chorus suite had once faded away in the musical world for its old and lagging form of performance like dialogic song. But the State Merited Chorus has created and perfected it as a chorus suite of our style on the basis of stanzaic song.
Typical of them are the chorus suites "Mt. Paektu, Tell the Story" and "Long Journey for Songun Leadership".
The Pochonbo Electronic Band has recently reproduced songs of the five revolutionary operas and folk songs and created the song and dance music "Arirang Sounded in Jiansanfeng" in a unique way, thus having a deep emotional influence on the servicepersons and people.
In particular, it reproduced on a high artistic level many famous works including the song "The Glow over Kangson" which reflects the working spirit and mettle of the people in the 1950s.
The mass gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" and the art performance "Blue Sky over My Country" (Part Dawn) were created as world-level masterpieces and "We Will Never Forget Those Days", "Arirang for Prosperity", "For the Motherland" and many other famous songs were reproduced to suit the spirit of the times.
Besides, the chorus suite "Long Journey for Songun Leadership" was successfully created into a symphony suite and the orchestra mixed with oungum and accordion was newly created, renovating the existing forms of music.

Many People Visit Revolutionary Site
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- A large number of servicepersons, working people of different strata and school youth and children are now visiting the Revolutionary Site on Mt. Jangja every day.
The site is a place where Kim Jong Il stayed in 20 odd days from the beginning of October Juche 39 (1950). During the stay he studied hard and firmly trained his body and mind, ardently wishing good health and safety to President Kim Il Sung who was leading the Fatherland Liberation War to victory, and hardened his will to smash the U.S. imperialist aggressors and bring about the bright future of the country.
According to data available, more than 9,245,000 servicepersons, working people of different strata and school youth and children have visited the site for the past 30 odd years since it was opened to visitors in October Juche 65 (1976).
Among the visitors are many overseas compatriots and foreigners.

Kim Jong Il's Birthday Celebrated in Different Countries
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- Meetings were held in Cuba, Nepal, Cambodia and India between February 6 and 9 and film shows arranged by the Badja Machine Company, Rabitra Bahtera Pratama Company and other Indonesian and Malaysian companies between Feb. 4 and 11 to celebrate the birthday of Kim Jong Il.

Korean People's Cause Supported in Democratic Congo
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- The Korean people single-mindedly united around Kim Jong Il will build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation in the near future under his Songun leadership. Festival de Kimjongilias lleno de sentimiento de elogio a Kim Jong Il
Pyongyang, 18 de febrero (ATCC) -- Se realiza con solemnidad el 12o Festival de Kimjongilias, inaugurado el pasado dia 13, donde esta impregnado el sentimiento de infinita veneracion del pueblo coreano y la humanidad progresista del mundo hacia el Dirigente Kim Jong Il.
En el presente certamen estan exhibidas decenas de miles de dichas flores cultivadas por mas de 100 unidades incluidos los organismos de las fuerzas armadas, ministerios y organos centrales, militares del ejercito popular, trabajadores de distintos estratos, jovenes y ninos escolares, compatriotas en ultramar y extranjeros.

Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Corea
Pyongyang, 18 de febrero (ATCC) -- Desde que se fundo el 8 de agosto del 35 (1946) de la Era Juche bajo la direccion del Presidente Kim Il Sung, la Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional recorrio una orgullosa trayectoria de desarrollo.
Aunque no es larga su historia, es muy prometedora esta banda que cuenta hoy con excelentes ejecutantes y competentes creadores.
En la decada de 1970, el Dirigente Kim Jong Il creo con su incansable direccion la original musica orquestal combinada de estilo coreano dando inicio a la nueva historia del desarrollo de la sinfonia autoctona.
Se caracteriza por el gran poder expresivo y originalidad la musica orquestal creada combinando los instrumentos musicales occidentales con los nacionales de peculiar vibracion tales como Saenap (flauta coreana) y gong pequeno.
Las sinfonias creadas e interpretadas por la Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional tienen un alto valor ideo-artistico y son muy faciles de comprender para todos.
Las mas representativas son la sinfonia "Mar de Sangre", el concierto para piano "Corea es una", las musicas orquestales "Querida casa de mi aldea natal", "Arirang", "La muchacha en columpio", "La colina Mungyong", "Abundante cosecha en la llanura Chongsan" y el concierto para violin "La cancion ´Nostalgia´".
En particular, es muy aplaudida por los espectadores la "Abundante cosecha en la llanura Chongsan" que refleja tal como es la realidad del campo socialista de Corea y describe en melodias dinamicas el gran jubilo y optimismo reinantes ahi.
Hasta ahora, este conjunto arreglo y creo mas de cien obras, entre otras, sinfonias, suites sinfonicas, musicas orquestales, conciertos y pequenas piezas instrumentales.
Hoy dia, esta banda prestigiosa es capaz de interpretar de modo impecable cualesquier obras musicales, inclusive las famosas del mundo.
Ella ofrecio mas de 20 mil funciones en el pais, aparte de mas de 200 en China, Japon, Alemania, Bulgaria, Polonia, Rumania y otros paises.
La orquesta condecorada dos veces con la "Orden Kim Il Sung" merece ser alabada a todo el mundo tanto por su tamano y nivel cualitativo de instrumentos musicales como a la luz de su nivel de ejecucion y numero de sus giras nacionales e internacionales.
Kim Jong Il recibe presente de delegacion de Mongolia
Pyongyang, 18 de febrero (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio presente que le dirigiera la delegacion de la Federacion de los Sindicatos de los Trabajadores de Agricultura, Alimento y Medioambiente de Mongolia presidida por su presidente, Ochirjantsan Gantuya, de visita en Corea.
