All Koreans Called upon to Work for Great National Unity

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The great national unity is the great foundation of national reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed article.
Achieving the national unity is a basic way to vigorously push forward the cause of national reunification as it provides a powerful engine for the reunification of the country, the article notes, and goes on:
What is most important for achieving the national unity is to maintain the principle of putting the common interests of the nation above anything else, irrespective of idea and system, class and stratum.
It is a hard fact that there exist some differences among Koreans including those in ideology and system due to the unending tragedy of division. But they are not insurmountable in achieving the national unity and reunification.
Now that the national reunification presents itself as a more urgent issue than ever before, different classes and strata in the north and the south should not hold their isms and interests supreme.
There can be neither classes nor strata apart from the nation and classes and factions also belong to the nation.
National unity is the unanimous desire of all Koreans and an urgent demand of the times. For all of them to unite close to achieve the great purpose common to the nation provides a sure guarantee for independent reunification and peace and prosperity.

Frustration of Imperialists' Psychological Warfare Called for

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- It is one of the important ways of frustrating the imperialists' psychological warfare to intensify the politico-ideological education and heighten revolutionary vigilance among the people. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The imperialists' psychological warfare is crafty tactics to benumb the people's mentality and reason. It is a dangerous method to militarily browbeat people so that they may remain crestfallen and non-resistant and yield to them.
If people are outwitted by the imperialists' psychological warfare, they will opt for treachery, perfidy and surrender and the country and nation will go to ruin in the end. This is a lesson taught by history.
The U.S. imperialists are now persistently working to apply the crafty and vicious psychological warfare to the DPRK. They are intensifying the above-said warfare against the DPRK because it is winning victory after victory, displaying the might of Songun politics despite any anti-socialist hurricane after the collapse of the former Soviet Union and East European socialist countries. It is also because the world socialist movement and the movement for independence are growing stronger as the days go by, inspired by the DPRK's advance, whereas the U.S. imperialists are finding themselves in a more difficult position.
They are scared by the invincible might of the DPRK to which the world people look up as a beacon of hope. Such psychological warfare, however, does not work on the Korean people strong in faith and mental power. It only stokes their anti-U.S. sentiment.
A people strong in revolutionary faith are sure to emerge victorious. When people are confident of sure victory, they will not be afraid of any formidable enemy but can fight it with confidence and optimism without vacillation in any adversity and ordeal and decisively frustrate the enemy's psychological warfare.

Suppression Denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The People's Solidarity for Abolition of the "National Security Law" (NSL) in south Korea reportedly made public a statement on January 29 denouncing the security authorities for having detained a member of the Teachers' Trade Union of south Korea (Jongyojo) on the charge of violation of the NSL, an evil law.
The statement recalled that on the same day the Security Investigation Corps of the Jonju District Police Office detained Kim Hyong Gun, chairman of the reunification committee of the North Jolla Provincial Branch of Jongyojo, by invoking the NSL.
The security authorities called to account his participation with students in a memorial service for pro-reunification patriotic martyrs held in Sunchang in May 2005 and perpetrated such suppression for the mere reason that he paid tribute to guerrillas and distributed enemy-benefiting handbills at the service, the statement noted, and saying:
It is due obligation to awake the students to the tragedy of national division and urgency of national reunification.
Nevertheless, the security authorities arrested the teacher who conducted the education in reunification, on the charges of praise and encouragement, a poisonous provision of the NSL. This is evidently a harsh suppression of the progressive camp.
The statement held that the NSL is a source of all tragedies and there will be no end to such repressive actions as long as the law remains in force, the statement stressed.

Anti-U.S. Action in S. Korea

Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Civic and social organizations of south Korea including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly held the 176th Friday meeting against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops outside the U.S. embassy in Seoul on January 25.
A resolution of struggle was read out at the meeting. The resolution referred to the fact that the United States deployed in its air-force base in Kunsan, North Jolla Province, south Korea, 20 F-16s belonging to the 79th combat wing of the 20th combat flying corps under the 9th U.S. Air Force and at least 300 personnel from its mainland, starting on January 14. Along with this, the U.S. air force in the base is planning to conduct exercises for examining the operation preparedness in collusion with the south Korean air force, it pointed out, saying:
The U.S. air force has set up the operation command for carrying out an independent operation. This is intended to further concretize the realization of "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. forces in south Korea.
Such moves intensified by the U.S. from the outset of the year as deployment of up-to-date combat wing in south Korea and its plan to conduct large-scale joint military exercises under the pretext of "familiarization with local conditions" are a dangerous provocation of threatening peace.
The resolution warned that if the U.S. continues its moves to provoke a war, threatening peace on the Korean Peninsula, it would meet a strong resistance of all the people.

Unwarranted Suppression of Koreans by Japanese Police Authorities under Fire

Tokyo, February 2 (KNS-KCNA) -- Officials of the Kyoto Prefectural headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) staged an action before the Kyoto Prefectural Police Office on Jan. 29 in protest against the unreasonable crackdown of the Japanese police authorities upon the Korean Commercial Association in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
Kum Ki Do, vice-chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural headquarters of Chongryon, and its other officials thrust a written protest to the police office.
Accusing the police authorities of Kyoto prefecture of searching 15 facilities related to Chongryon including the building of the commercial association on Jan. 21 and 22 and arresting its incumbent official on the unreasonable charge of the "violation of the law on taxation" and searching the houses of officials of the commercial association all of a sudden on Jan. 27, they branded these frantic search operations as an intolerable human rights abuse.
They declared that officials of the commercial association did nothing but legally helping Korean workers in commerce in dealing with the issue of taxation.
Recalling that the public relations section of the public security office was involved in the investigation of the issue of taxation, an economic issue, they stated that this fact alone clearly indicates that the recent search operations are politically motivated suppression and human rights abuse against the commercial association and Koreans in Japan.
The recent action will leave a big stain on the above-said police office, they noted, urging the police authorities to immediately release the arrested official and return the confiscated data.
The officials of the Kyoto Prefectural headquarters staged a strong protest on Jan. 30 and 31, too.
