Kim Jong Il's Feats for Reunification Praised
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- In the joint New Year editorial the Workers' Party of Korea expressed the steadfast will to achieve the national reunification in the present generation, true to President Kim Il Sung's last instructions for reunification, and on this basis made a patriotic proposal for glorifying the June 15 era of reunification by attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity.
In response to this proposal, the government, political parties and organizations of the DPRK made public a joint statement calling on the Koreans to make this year a year of turning point in history whereby to usher in the new annals for national reunification.
The joint statement has served as a banner of powerfully encouraging all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to the dynamic nationwide movement for glorifying the June 15 era of reunification, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article.
Noting that the joint statement attracted positive support and approval from all Koreans and the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas turned out as one in the drive to glorify the June 15 era of reunification from the outset of this year, the article goes on:
Not a few achievements have been made in the development of the inter-Korean relations this year.
Thanks to the DPRK's patriotic will for reunification and initiative measures, there took place such talks of various forms between the north and the south as the premier-level talks, defence minister-level talks, ministerial-level talks, general-level military talks and the Red Cross talks. The agreements reached at the talks helped reconnect the severed railways between the north and the south and activate the north-south economic cooperation projects.
It is entirely thanks to the tested and distinguished leadership of Kim Jong Il that the Korean nation's movement for national reunification has advanced as required by the times and desired by Koreans.
Firmly resolved to advance the June 15 era of reunification on a new high stage, he provided the historic inter-Korean summit in October and the adoption of the October 4 Declaration for the Development of North-South Relations and Peace and Prosperity. The adoption of the Oct. 4 declaration was one more event to be specially recorded in the history of the nation as the north and the south ushered in an era of national prosperity, a new history of the movement for independent reunification under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself."

Japan Urged to Settle Its Past Crimes, to Begin with
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- If there be politicians who know about politics and are able to foresee a future in Japan, they had better have a proper view on history, correctly judge the issue of history and swim with the trend of the times. Rodong Sinmun today urges this in a signed article.

As commented by the fair world public, the primary task facing Japan today is to liquidate its inglorious past as early as possible.
Redressing the past wrongs is a legal and moral responsibility Japan assumed before the times and history.
With nothing can Japan cover up the criminal aggression perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists against Korea in the past. It is under obligation to settle this most hideous crime without fail no matter how much water may flow under the bridge. The Japanese reactionaries have persistently refused to repent of and apologize for this crime and played sleight of hand to keep it buried into oblivion.
The ruling quarters and political parties in Japan keep mum about the issue of redeeming Japan's past crimes, while wasting time with the argument about the issue of adopting a new "law on special measures against terrorism."
If there be any politicians capable of foreseeing a future in Japan, they should propose the issue of settling its past war crimes and turning over a new leaf and kick off a political debate on it.
Japan would be well advised to stop rummaging through the cesspool of militaristic politics giving off bad smell but be sensitive to the times, properly judge the world and make a fresh start.

Floral Basket to Kim Jong Il from Zhang Weihua's Family
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il was presented with a floral basket by the family of Zhang Weihua, an anti-Japanese revolutionary martyr, on Friday on the occasion of the New Year, Juche 97 (2008).
Written on the ribbon of the floral basket were letters reading "We wholeheartedly wish the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il good health".
Doctorate of Linguistics Conferred upon Dean of Faculty of Yanbian University of China
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- A doctorate of linguistics of the DPRK was awarded to Li Minde, dean of the Korean Language Faculty of Yanbian University of China.
He has taught and studied the Korean language, contributing to properly teaching it as required by the Pyongyang cultured language.
An awarding ceremony took place at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Friday.
Revolutionary Drama "Woman Comrade in Mt. Paektu"
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- The revolutionary drama "Woman Comrade in Mt. Paektu" was performed before full houses at the State Dramatic Theater on the occasion of the 90th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. The drama was reproduced by the State Theatrical Company.
The story develops against the background of the large unit circling operation in the area northeast of Mt. Paektu which was organized and commanded by President Kim Il Sung from the autumn of Juche 28 (1939) to the next spring.
Kim Jong Suk, who always did everything she could for the safety of the President, goes down to an enemy-controlled area at the risk of her life to get to the bottom of the enemy's wicked scheme to do harm to the headquarters of the revolution and hurls herself into brave and subtle activities with her superb wisdom and unexampled courage.
Through her portrayal, the drama presents on an impressive artistic canvas the truth that it is the noble duty and conscience of a revolutionary soldier to defend the leader devotedly, which one should do of one's own accord till death, not on other's order.

Successes in Land Management Work
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- Many successes have been registered in the land management work in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea this year.
Each unit has fulfilled its plan of land management including the production and transplantation of saplings, river improvement project, repair of the dykes for controlling tidewater, afforestation for land erosion control and road construction.
Hundreds of millions of trees including acacia, pine-nut trees, Pinus rigida and larch trees were planted everywhere in the country.
People in Pyongyang City and North Hwanghae, South Phyongan and Kangwon provinces planted fast-growing trees of good species in mountains and fields, major roads, villages and parks.
Those in Chosan County of Jagang Province newly created 15 hectares of nursery fields for mixed forest and produced lots of saplings of good species.
Yonthan and Unpha Counties of North Hwanghae Province, Pyoksong County of South Hwanghae Province and other regions fixed right soils and made a large acreage of mixed forests by properly combining the pine-nut trees, larch trees, acacias and other kinds of trees with each other.
This year unprecedented big floods hit the country two times, damaging rivers and streams. However, people in Hyangsan County of North Phyongan Province, Kumgang County of Kangwon Province, Phyongsan County of North Hwanghae Province and all other areas carried out projects of filling dyke, laying stones and dredging river-beds, restoring the rivers and streams to their original state.
Jagang, South Hamgyong, South Phyongan and other provinces, Kim Chaek City, Kosan County, Thaechon County and other cities and counties exerted efforts to the technical improvement of roads and thus ensured the safety of motorcar service and raised the traffic capacity.

Multi-Media E-Dictionary Produced
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- A multi-media E-dictionary "large literary and art dictionary" was compiled and produced by the Academy of Social Sciences.
The dictionary contains at least 14,500 entries, more than 6,800 image files and over 780 sound files which help deeply understand the successes made by the Juche-oriented literature and arts and world literature and arts.
It has many famous works published by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il while leading the field of literature and arts and masterpieces such as poems and songs, revolutionary operas and dramas created by the three generals of Mt. Paektu and explanations about them.
The dictionary also contains works and other writings done by members of the revolutionary family of the President in Mangyongdae.
It deals in detail with information about famous creators of Korea and various other countries of the world from the ancient times to the modern ones and literary and art works written by them.
This huge dictionary helps its users quickly and correctly search required files by diverse methods.
Kim Jong Il's Work Posted on Internet
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks posted on its Internet homepage the full text of leader Kim Jong Il's work "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung."
This work, published on October 2, Juche 84 (1995), serves as the immortal guidelines of party building and activities as it reviewed with high pride the glorious history of the WPK, which pioneered a new road of building a revolutionary party in the era of independence under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, and indicated the ways for developing the WPK into the eternal party of Kim Il Sung.
The homepage carried a photo of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
DPRK's Important Days Celebrated
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- Symposiums, film shows and photo exhibitions were held by the Left United Party of Romania and the Khmer Democratic Party of Cambodia on December 20 and 21 on the occasions of the 16th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army and the 90th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk.
On display at the venues of the functions were works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing the exploits performed by Kim Jong Il in leading the Songun revolution.
Niculae Pavelescu, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Left United Party of Romania, said at the symposium that Kim Jong Il has developed the KPA into an army strong in ideology and faith and the invincible revolutionary armed forces and strengthened its military technical might in every way.
The greatest exploit performed by Kim Jong Suk is that she resolutely defended Kim Il Sung and brought up Kim Jong Il to be a distinguished leader who would steer the future of Korea.
The vice-chairman of the party said that the exploits performed by Kim Jong Suk, woman commander of Mt. Paektu, will be cherished in the hearts of the world people forever.
Ouk Phurik, president of the Khmer Democratic Party of Cambodia, highly praised Kim Jong Il as a great strategist possessed of rare wisdom and outstanding leadership ability.

Removal of Concrete Wall Demanded in India
Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- J.K.Patel, director of the Indian Institute for Foreign Policy Studies, released a statement on December 21 demanding the removal of the concrete wall.
The statement said that the concrete wall is an anti-reunification physical wall artificially blocking the reunification of Korea and the peace on the Korean Peninsula as it runs counter to the "Declaration on the Development of the North-South Relations and Peace and Prosperity".
The U.S. is zealously patronizing the anti-reunification forces in south Korea and putting a brake on the development of the north-south relations and peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, afraid of the possible breach in this barrier of division, the statement noted, demanding the U.S. drop its hostile policy towards the DPRK, away from the outdated way of thinking, stop instigating the anti-reunification forces of south Korea any longer and quit there as early as possible taking all its forces and war equipment with it.

Pyongyang, 28 de diciembre (ATCC) -- Si en Japon hubieran los politicos que conozcan la politica y tengan la vision de largo alcance, ellos deberian establecer la correcta concepcion de la historia, analizar correctamente los problemas y seguir la corriente de la epoca.
Asi senala el periodico Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 28 y continua:
Como insiste la justa opinion publica del mundo, la primera tarea de Japon es liquidar lo mas pronto posible su ignominioso pasado, lo cual deviene la responsabilidad juridica y moral de este pais isleno asumida ante la epoca y la historia.
Los crimenes de los imperialistas japoneses perpetrados en el pasado en la agresion a Corea no pueden ser encubiertos de ninguna manera sino deben ser liquidados sin falta aunque pase mucho tiempo.
Pero, los reaccionarios japoneses se niegan obstinadamente a arrepentirse y disculparse por esas fechorias y al contrario, se valen de todas las artimanas para dejarlas en el olvido de la historia.
Un ejemplo de ello es que la capa gobernante y las fracciones partidistas de Japon pasan mucho tiempo discutiendo el problema de la aprobacion del nuevo "proyecto de ley de medidas especiales antiterroristas", pero nunca hacen referencia alguna a la expiacion de esos crimenes del pasado.
Si hubiera entre ellos algun politico con vision al futuro, deberia debatir las politicas abogando por la nueva partida de Japon basada en la liquidacion completa de los crimenes de guerra del siglo pasado.
Japon debe ver correctamente el mundo con el sentido contemporaneo y comenzar de nuevo ante la historia, en lugar de andar dejando estelas de sus asquerosas politicas militaristas.

Pyongyang, 28 de diciembre (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio un cesto de flores y una carta de felicitacion que el Cuerpo de Agregados Militares acreditado en Corea le dirigiera con motivo del Ano Nuevo el 97 (2008) de la Era Juche.
El agregado militar de la Embajada de la Republica Socialista de Vietnam quien preside al cuerpo, Dau Xuan Long, los entrego el dia 28 a un funcionario coreano.
Exitos logrados en la administracion territorial
Pyongyang, 28 de diciembre (ATCC) -- Este ano, Corea logro muchos exitos en la administracion territorial.
Quedaron cumplidos a escala nacional los proyectos por ramas de esa labor, incluyendo la cria y plantacion de las posturas de arbol, el arreglo de fuentes fluviales, la reparacion de malecon, la obra del control hidraulico para prevenir la erosion y la construccion de carreteras.
En todas partes del pais fueron plantados cientos de millones de arboles como la acacia, el pino pinonero, el Pino canariensis y el alerce.
En particular, los habitantes de la ciudad de Pyongyang, las provincias de Hwanghae del Norte, de Phyong-an del Sur y de Kangwon sembraron los arboles de rapido crecimiento en los montes, llanuras, principales vias, aldeas y parques.
En el distrito de Chosan de la provincia de Jagang se produjeron muchas posturas de arboles de buena variedad en un nuevo vivero de 15 hectareas nuevamente acondicionado para crear los bosques mixtos.
En los distritos de Yonthan y Unpha de la provincia de Hwanghae del Norte, el distrito de Pyoksong de la provincia de Hwanghae del Sur y otras regiones se crearon extensos bosques mixtos al ubicar en terrenos adecuados el pino pinonero, el alerce y la acacia, entre otras plantas.
Aunque ocasionaron grandes perdidas en los recursos fluviales las inundaciones sin precedentes que azotaron este ano al pais en dos ocasiones, el distrito de Hyangsan de la provincia de Phyong-an del Norte, el distrito de Kumgang de la provincia de Kangwon, el distrito de Phyongsan de la provincia de Hwanghae del Norte y otras localidades los recuperaron en statu quo mediante la construccion del terraplen, el revestimiento con piedras y el dragado.
Al prestar mucha atencion a la renovacion tecnica de las carreteras, las provincias de Jagang, de Hamgyong del Sur y de Phyong-an del Sur, la ciudad de Kim Chaek, los distritos de Kosan y Thaechon y otras provincias, ciudades y distritos garantizaron la seguridad del transito de automoviles y elevaron el porcentaje de su circulacion.
Actos en varios paises por efemerides coreanas
Pyongyang, 28 de diciembre (ATCC) -- En ocasion del 16o aniversario del nombramiento del Dirigente Kim Jong Il como Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea y del 90o aniversario del natalicio de la heroina de lucha antijaponesa Kim Jong Suk, tuvieron lugar los dias 20 y 21 simposio, proyeccion filmica y exhibicion fotografica bajo auspicios del Partido Unido Izquierdista de Rumania (PUIR) y el Partido Democratico Khmer de Camboya (PDKC).
En las sedes de los actos estaban expuestas las obras maestras del Presidente Kim Il Sung y del Dirigente Kim Jong Il y las fotos alusivas a las proezas realizadas por este al introducir el Songun (priorizacion militar) en su direccion.
En los simposios varias personalidades hicieron uso de la palabra.
El presidente ejecutivo del citado partido rumano, Niculae Pavelescu, destaco que el Dirigente Kim Jong Il convirtio el Ejercito Popular de Corea en las invencibles fuerzas armadas fuertes en la ideologia y conviccion y fortalecio por todos los medios su potencial tecnico-militar.
La hazana mas grande -prosiguio- de Kim Jong Suk es que defendio a costa de la vida al General Kim Il Sung y formo a Su Excelencia Kim Jong Il como destacado dirigente que se encargaria del futuro de Corea.
El vicepresidente de la misma entidad dijo que las hazanas de la generala del monte Paektu quedaran siempre en el alma de los pueblos del mundo.
De otro lado, el presidente del partido camboyano, Ouk Phurik, vertio loas sobre Su Excelencia el Mariscal Kim Jong Il calificandolo de gran estratega militar con extraordinaria inteligencia y gran capacidad directiva.
En el encuentro de cine se proyecto el documental coreano "Juntos en el camino de la gran direccion del Songun".
