Nose Grave, Offspring of Ferocity and Brutality of Japanese

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- In Kyoto, the old capital of Japan, there is a large domed grave called "Mimizuka" (ear grave).
It is a historical evidence of the past crimes of Japanese invaders whose ferocity and brutality were their physical quality.
In June 1597 during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598), with the war protracted and the Japanese invaders stranded in the southern area of Kyongsang Province, in face of the stubborn resistance of the Korean people, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, the ringleader of Japan, issued the following order:
Cut the noses of Koreans instead of their heads as a man has two ears and one nose. A soldier is allowed to capture Koreans after collecting one sho of noses.
On this order, a naval unit of Japan slaughtered tens of thousands of Koreans in 10-odd days, while the boss of the unit, Wakizaga, killed more than 2,000 people single-handed and cut their noses, boasting his "excellent performance."
Privates also killed Koreans right and left, irrespective of sex, to render "military services". They murdered even babies and cut off their noses.
Toyotomi nominated seven nose-collecting officers and dispatched them to Korea. They issued a note of confirmation. To cite one example: "3,487 noses in total taken over."
After the noses were salted and packed in big wooden barrels, pots and straw bags by 1,000-3,800, they were carried to Nagoya by sea and then to Osaka. They were reloaded to horse or ox carts and carried to Kyoto through a highway.
Toyotomi gave instructions to drag out villagers and make them welcome the carts along the road, lauding the "military achievements," and bury the noses in the "nose grave" after checking and confirming them.
In this way 185,738 noses of Koreans were buried in the grave.
In the later period, the Japanese rulers renamed the "nose grave" "ear grave", trying to throw the ferocity and brutality of the Japanese into oblivion.
However, the "nose grave", without a parallel in the history of aggression, tells that the Japanese invaders were the most brutal man-slaughters.

Japan's Moves for Preemptive Strike at DPRK under Fire

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries are now putting spurs to boosting the capability to defend the metropolitan area from missile strikes, blustering that it is essential to form a dense network for intercepting missiles in order to cope with the "missile threat from north Korea." These outbursts come under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Tuesday.
Lurking behind the noisy call made by the Japanese reactionaries for establishing a missile defence system (MD) while taking issue with missiles of the DPRK is a sinister intention which should not be overlooked, the commentary observes, and goes on:
Japan is provided with a "nuclear umbrella" by the U.S. according to the "Japan-U.S. Security Pact" and a series of other agreements. An atmosphere of peace and detente is strongly felt on the Korean Peninsula, Japan's neighbor.
There is, therefore, neither need for Japan to worry about its security nor any justification for it to accelerate the modernization and deployment of weaponry and equipment of strategic nature.
This is the very point that makes the Japanese reactionaries feel uncomfortable.
It is their calculation that only when the situation in the surrounding areas remains unstable and security concern increases, can Japan round off the moves for emerging a military giant, a material guarantee for overseas militarist expansion, at a high level under that pretext. But the situation is developing quite contrary to their expectation.
That is why they continue making much ado about "missile threat from north Korea" which can convince no one.
Japan is paying particular attention to building the MD to protect the metropolitan area for the purpose of rounding off its capability to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
It is the real purpose of the Japanese reactionaries' establishment of the MD to neutralize the DPRK defence capability and secure military conditions for making preemptive strikes at the DPRK any time.
Japan has already built the military force for overseas invasion targeted not only against the Korean Peninsula but the Asian continent.
The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised to be prudent, bearing in mind that their military overseas expansion leads to their self-destruction.

U.S. Bellicose Forces' War Moves under Fire

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- The U.S. bellicose forces recently deployed overseas-based F-16s, F-15s and F/A-18s in U.S. air-force bases in south Korea. Coinciding with this movement, a nuclear-powered submarine of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces entered the Pusan Port of south Korea, and it is bustling around in surrounding waters for the DPRK-targeted operation exercises.
Such moves are a part of the U.S. conservative hardliners' invariable hostile policy towards the DPRK and a reckless criminal act of chilling the denuclearization process in the Korean Peninsula and driving the situation into the brink of war, says Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed commentary.
    The commentary goes on:
We cannot but take a serious view of the fact that the U.S. bellicose forces are intensifying anti-DPRK nuclear war moves after introducing the nuclear-powered submarine with high performance, in particular.
The above-said deployment and frenzied nuclear war exercises by the U.S. are evidently an open challenge to the DPRK, its dialogue partner.
This is contrary to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the September 19 joint statement. Such reckless moves cannot be construed otherwise than a sinister scheme to obstruct and frustrate the progress of the six-party talks.
The acute political and military situation around the Korean Peninsula convinces the DPRK that there is no other option but to increase the military capabilities for self-defence in every way under the uplifted banner of Songun politics in order to reliably defend the sovereignty and security of the country.

Opening to Public of Serious Pollution in U.S. Forces' Bases Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- Civic and social organizations of south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification reportedly called a joint press conference in front of the Ministry of National Defence in Seoul on December 7 at which they demanded the military authorities open to the public the serious pollution in the returned U.S. forces' bases.
Speakers at the press conference charged that the military authorities are obstructing the survey of the serious pollution in the returned U.S. forces' bases because they conducted unequal negotiations with the U.S. and meekly accepted the U.S. forces' demand for south Korea's covering the expenses for de-polluting the bases.
They asserted that in order to properly solve the problem of serious pollution caused by the U.S. forces it is necessary to ensure field survey by victims and civic and social organizations.
They urged the military authorities to open to the public a report on the results of the survey of the serious pollution in the returned U.S. forces' bases and renegotiate with the U.S. forces side to demand it cover the expenses for de-polluting them.

Declaration on Situation Issued in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front published a declaration on the situation on Dec. 10, according to Internet homepage Kuguk Jonson.
The declaration said that the political situation in south Korea is inching close to an unpredictable phase due to the desperate moves of the Cold War-minded ultra-right conservative forces to grab power with the "presidential elections" just around the corner.
Ri Hoe Chang's seizure of power would mean a tragedy for the south Korean people and misfortune for all the fellow countrymen, it noted.
Underscoring the need to direct the spearhead of the struggle to win the 17th "presidential elections" to completely eliminating Ri Hoe Chang, the declaration called upon all the people to participate in the "elections" to make December 19 the funeral day for traitor Ri Hoe Chang.
It also stressed the need to use the 17th "presidential elections" as a good opportunity to prevent the emergence of the new conservative forces.
Recalling that riffraffs styling themselves "orthodox conservatives" are encouraging Ri in his bid to gratify his greed for power, the declaration called upon the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration, the pro-reform progressive forces to achieve grand merger and large alliance as early as possible regardless of ism and interests.
Accusing the U.S. of craftily working to install a pro-U.S. conservative "regime" through Ri, its hand-raised stooge, in a bid to block progress and reforms and deter the June 15 era from advancing, the declaration called for thoroughly frustrating the U.S. interference in the internal affairs and the "presidential elections" in south Korea.
It underscored the need to closely combine the struggle to win the "presidential elections" with the struggle to put an end to the U.S. military presence and domination and foil its moves for a war against the DPRK.
The declaration called for bringing a sledge hammer down upon the head of Ri Hoe Chang keen to grab power through the "presidential elections" and thus create new politics, a new life by the efforts of the south Koreans and bring about a bright morrow of independent reunification and the era of peace and prosperity.

Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- The Album "Night of Pyongyang" introducing the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" was published by the Nicolai Publishing House of Germany on Nov. 7.
Carrying a portrait of President Kim Il Sung, the album edited Kim Jong Il's proposition on further developing the mass gymnastic display, an article and photographs introducing "Arirang."
The album in the article gave a detailed account of the fact that Kim Jong Il wisely led the work to create and produce "Arirang" on the highest level.
Noting that "Arirang" is the excellent work in the world, the album introduced in detail its scale, contents, style and the course of its creation in connection with the history of the development of the mass gymnastic display in the DPRK.
