Archery, Skilful Military Arts of Korean Nation

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- Archery is one of the skilful military arts that the Korean nation had developed generation after generation.
The archery, which had been widely encouraged from Tangun's Korea, reached a high level in the period of Koguryo.
Founder-King of Koguryo Tongmyong was called "Jumong" which meant a famous archer.
People of Koguryo paid a deep attention to teaching bowmanship to their children and archers of renown handed over their talent to the rising generations.
The mural paintings of Tokhungri Tombs and Yaksuri Tombs belonging to Koguryo show men on horseback shooting arrows at a running tiger or leveling bows at roe deer and deer, chasing them.
As archery was popularized and made a daily routine in Koguryo, it came to have a large unit of famous archers and could defeat the numerically superior invaders in battles.
Koryo had also encouraged archery among the people irrespective of social positions. In particular, those of Phyongan Province centering on Pyongyang achieved fame at that time.
Ri Dynasty produced not a small number of famous archers, too. According to records, there was a story that Hwang Jin, an archer of renown in the closing years of the 16th century, shot arrows supplied by three to four assistants without missing enemy soldiers during the Imjin Patriotic War.
The archery clearly shows the history and tradition of the resourceful and courageous Korean nation.

U.S. Warmongers' Ambition for Military Supremacy under Fire

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- Some time ago, the U.S. conducted another missile interceptor test on the Kauai Island of Hawaii despite strong protest and denunciation by the international community. The U.S. Defense Department requested Congress to approve a proposal for spending 88 million dollars for the purchase of "Bunker Buster."
These moves come under fire by a signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun Tuesday.
This is a clear indication that the U.S. warmongers' ambition for military supremacy remains unchanged and they have become evermore undisguised in their moves to realize it, the commentary says, and goes on:
The U.S. imperialists' frantic moves to modernize nukes and establish the missile defence system (MD) are not aimed at ensuring the "security" and "peace" of their allies but at realizing their criminal ambition to dominate the world.
It is the criminal goal of the U.S. bellicose forces to hold a military edge in the Asia-Pacific region with south Korea and Japan as strategic strongholds. It was by no means fortuitous that they carried out the above-mentioned test in Hawaii.
The U.S. decision to spend a stupendous amount of money for the purchase of the above-said bomb was prompted by its design to make surprise strikes at the military strongholds in what it called "rogue states" and realize its scenario for aggression with ease. This once again saliently revealed the true colors of the U.S. as an arch criminal escalating the tension and threatening peace in the Asia-Pacific region including the Korean Peninsula and other parts of the world.
The U.S. reckless moves to realize its wild ambition for military supremacy is as foolish an act as putting its own security at peril.
Minju Joson in a commentary says the U.S. confrontational policy of strength is only throwing itself into a bottomless political pitfall, urging the U.S. to properly see the world from a new viewpoint and make efforts to swim with the trend of the times.

Nationwide Action for Pullout of U.S. Forces from S. Korea Called for

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- U.S. forces' presence in south Korea is a main stumbling block lying in the way of achieving the sovereignty of the Korean nation and reunification of Korea as it is a brigandish infringement upon its sovereignty and hideous terrorism against its sovereignty. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The U.S. imperialists have long worked hard to invade Korea with a wild ambition to dominate the whole of Korea. They landed in south Korea under the pretext of "disarming" the defeated Imperial Japanese Army right after the liberation of Korea. Their occupation of south Korea was robber-like and illegal aggression as it was prompted by their criminal design to turn south Korea into their colony and use it as a springboard from which to launch aggression against the whole of Korea.
As soon as the U.S. imperialists set foot on south Korea, they enforced a harsh "military rule" and set up a pro-American regime there. The U.S. deeply interfered even in the regime change and policy-making in south Korea, lording it over there for the past several decades.
The U.S. forces in south Korea are chiefly to blame for the division of Korea. They are a main stumbling block in the way of unity and reunification of the Korean nation. Whenever the desire for unity and reunification grew strong among south Koreans and a phase of reconciliation opened between the north and south of Korea, they instigated the anti-reunification forces and committed war exercises and escalated confrontation in a bid to strain the situation and stem the trend toward reunification. The difficult progress of the June 15 era of reunification brought into bolder relief the U.S. nature as disturber of national reconciliation and reunification.
All Koreans are called upon to wage a more dynamic nationwide struggle to put an end to the U.S. presence in south Korea and thus achieve the sovereignty of the nation.

Actions on "Day of All-People Action for 2007" Staged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- People from all walks of life in south Korea held in Seoul on Nov. 11 events "on the day of all-people action for 2007 to check the conclusion of south Korea-U.S. free trade agreement, abolish the part-time job and achieve peace against war" despite the authorities' fascist suppression, according to the south Korean KBS and CBS.
The events brought together at least 20,000 people from all walks of life including workers, peasants and youths and students from across south Korea.
The first event was a meeting.
The participants of the meeting demanded the authorities halt the negotiations for the conclusion of the FTA with the U.S., totally revise the evil law on part-time job and withdraw the troops from Iraq at once.
At the end of the meeting they marched toward the U.S. embassy in Seoul.
Civil and social organizations of different circles called a joint press conference near Chongwadae in Seoul on Nov. 10 at which they vowed to make events on the day a success.
At the end of the press conference representatives of those organizations launched an all-night sit-in.

Outcome of S. Korea-U.S. "Annual Security Consultative Meeting" Blasted

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions reportedly issued a statement on Nov. 8 in denunciation of the outcome of the 39th south Korea-U.S. "annual security consultative meeting" obstructive to peaceful reunification.
The statement noted that a "joint statement" released by the U.S. and the south Korean authorities at the above-said meeting argued for confrontation dating back to the era of the Cold War by categorically rejecting the proposed peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula. This is proved by the fact it "appreciated" the dispatch of south Korean troops to Iraq and reconfirmed the U.S. sustainable provision of a "nuclear umbrella" to south Korea and the humiliating south Korea-U.S. "Mutual Defense Pact," etc., the statement added.
Recalling that it "expressed the firm will to keep the south Korea-U.S. combined forces on highest alert and steadily bolster them", the statement held that this is an undisguised revelation of their stand to tighten their "alliance" for aggression and bring back the inter-Korean relations to the phase of confrontation. It declared that the organization would carry on its strenuous actions for the dissolution of the "UN Command", the conclusion of a peace agreement and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces.

Security Authorities' Suppression under Fire in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) reportedly made public a statement on Nov. 7 to denounce the security authorities for having walked off former deputies to the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils.
Noting that the security authorities walked off Ra Jin Suk, chairperson of the General Student Council of Konkuk University for 2002, and Hong Ki Ung, vice-chairman of the General Student Council of Seoul Industrial University for 2003, who participated in the struggle for the abolition of the "National Security Law" (NSL), the statement said:
Such fascist outrage is stirring up the indignation of the people. The security authorities are still cracking down upon the pro-reunification patriotic forces by dint of the NSL, and this is the last-ditch effort to check the trend of national independence and great unity at any cost.
The South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon will fight it out to get the NSL, which defines the fellow countrymen in the north as "enemy" and serves as a tool for suppression of the pro-reunification patriotic forces, repealed and the "Security Investigation Team" and others dissolved, the statement said.

Slogans of Action Issued in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea on Nov. 8 reportedly issued the slogans of struggle for the progressive forces' victory in the "2007 presidential elections".
The slogans called for launching an all-out offensive against the U.S. and conservatism under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration to win in the elections. They stressed the need to strengthen the Democratic Labour Party and the Solidarity for Progress in south Korea through unity of all the progressive forces.
Noting that Ri Myong Bak is backed by the U.S., they called for preventing Ri, a corrupt politician, from running for the elections and achieving the great alliance against conservatism so as to check the pro-U.S. conservative forces' attempt to come to power.
They stressed the need to dissolve the Grand National Party, which opposes the national reunification while flattering the U.S., and remove the pro-U.S. conservative forces.
They also called for winning in the elections and establishing a government desirous of peace and reunification through an all-people struggle for supporting and implementing the June 15 joint declaration.
