Tete-a-Tete Talks Held between Kim Jong Il and Nong Duc Manh

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Tete-a-tete talks were held between Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, and Nong Duc Manh, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in Pyongyang Wednesday.
    The talks proceeded in a comradely, sincere and friendly atmosphere.


Kim Jong Il Hosts Luncheon in Honor of Nong Duc Manh

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, Wednesday visited the Paekhwawon State Guest House where Nong Duc Manh, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is staying.
    He was greeted by Nong Duc Manh and his suite members in the lobby of the house.
    Then he had a warm conversation with Nong Duc Manh.
    He hosted a luncheon in honor of Nong Duc Manh.
    Present there on invitation together with Nong Duc Manh were Pham Gia Khiem, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Communist Party of Vietnam who is also deputy prime minister and foreign minister, and Tran Van Hang, chairman of the Commission for External Affairs of the Party Central Committee, Ngo Van Du, chief of the General Office of the Party Central Committee, Hoang Tuan Anh, minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, who are members of the Party Central Committee, Le Van Cu, Vietnamese ambassador to the DPRK, and other suite members.
    Also present were Kim Yong Il, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Kim Jong Gak, first vice director of the General Political Department of the Korean People's Army, Kim Yang Gon, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Pak Kyong Son, vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kim Kye Gwan and Kim Yong Il, vice-ministers of Foreign Affairs, and Ma Chol Su, DPRK ambassador to Vietnam.
    The luncheon proceeded in a friendly and warm atmosphere.


Kim Jong Il Receives Gifts from Nong Duc Manh

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, received gifts from Nong Duc Manh, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on October 17.
    Present on the occasion together with Nong Duc Manh were Pham Gia Khiem, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Communist Party of Vietnam who is also deputy prime minister and foreign minister, and Tran Van Hang, chairman of the Commission for External Affairs of the Party Central Committee, and Ngo Van Du, chief of the General Office of the Party Central Committee, who are members of the Party Central Committee, and other suite members.
    Nong Duc Manh explained the gifts to Kim Jong Il.
    Kim Jong Il expressed thanks for the gifts before looking round them on display.


Nong Duc Manh Visits Mangyongdae

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Nong Duc Manh, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, visited Mangyongdae on Wednesday.
    He was accompanied by Pham Gia Khiem, member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the CPV, who is also deputy prime minister and foreign minister, and other suite members, and Le Van Cu, Vietnamese ambassador to the DPRK.
    He and his party laid a floral basket before President Kim Il Sung's old home in Mangyongdae.
    They looked round relics at the old home, being briefed on the fact that Kim Il Sung was born there and nurtured the great intention to liberate the country in his childhood and embarked upon the road of revolution in his early years and on the members of his patriotic and revolutionary family in Mangyongdae.
    They had a picture taken in front of the old home.
    At the end of the visit Nong Duc Manh made the following entry in the visitor's book: I hope that the fraternal Korean people would continue to register greater success in carrying out the revolutionary cause to build rich, powerful and beautiful Korea, an abundant and happy country, true to the behest of President Kim Il Sung under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    Nong Duc Manh also visited the Pyongyang 326 Electric Wire Factory today.
    After looking round several production processes and products on display, he wrote in the visitor's book that he hoped all the officials and workers of the factory would increase the production of quality goods by displaying the spirit of creative labor and thus contribute to building rich and powerful Korea.


Nong Duc Manh Enjoys "Arirang"

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Nong Duc Manh, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, enjoyed the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", "Kim Il Sung Prize" laureate, at the May Day Stadium Wednesday.

    The floor of the stadium turned into a veritable sea of flowers and dancers in the sentiment of friendship of the Korean people with the Vietnamese people.
    "Arirang" shows the heroic struggle of the Korean people with elegant and beautiful dances, dynamic gymnastic movements and kaleidoscopic scenes of the background. It tells how the Korean people built socialist Korea, holding aloft the banner of Songun and how energetically they are now stepping up the building of a great prosperous powerful nation and forging ahead to achieve national reunification and global independence.
    The guests warmly applauded the performers, expressing admiration at the performance of the grand gymnastic and artistic performance full of high ideological and artistic value.


Kim Yong Nam Meets Foreign Delegation

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met with a delegation of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation headed by Chairman Johnny Hon, who is chairman of the Global Group of Britain, and had a friendly talk with it at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Wednesday.

International Kim Il Sung Foundation Established

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The International Kim Il Sung Foundation was established with due ceremony at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday.
    Present there were Vice-President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Yang Hyong Sop, Vice-Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Kwak Pom Gi, Minister of Education Kim Yong Jin, Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade Ri Ryong Nam, President of Koryo Bank Pak Yong Chil, Vice-Chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Society Rim Hoe Song and officials concerned.
    Also present were members of the delegation of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation headed by Chairman Johnny Hon, who is chairman of the Global Group of Britain.
    The chairman of the foundation in a report at the ceremony noted that the purpose of the foundation is to ensure successful awarding of the "International Kim Il Sung Prize" and contribute to the study and dissemination of the Juche idea worldwide, global peace and the cause of independence.
    It is the mission of the foundation to widely disseminate the idea of President Kim Il Sung among the world people, he added.
    He vowed to make a tangible contribution to the cause of building a peaceful and independent new world which was started by the President.
    Kim Yong Jin in a congratulatory speech expressed thanks to Chairman Johnny Hon and the council of the foundation for having made positive efforts to establish the foundation.
    He wished the foundation great success in its work, expressing hope that it would make the "International Kim Il Sung Prize" most dignified prize and greatly contribute to the study and dissemination of the Juche idea and accomplishment of the human cause of independence.


Banquet Hosted by DPRK Government

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The government of the DPRK hosted a banquet at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Wednesday to hail the establishment of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation.
    Present there on invitation were members of a delegation of the foundation headed by Chairman Johnny Hon, who is chairman of the Global Group of Britain.
    On hand were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Kwak Pom Gi, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education, Ri Ryong Nam, vice-minister of Foreign Trade, Pak Yong Chil, president of the Koryo Bank, Rim Hoe Song, vice-chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Society, and officials concerned.
    Yang Hyong Sop in a speech said that the establishment of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation marks a historic event of great significance in raising the prestige of the "International Kim Il Sung Prize" and intensifying the study and dissemination of the Juche idea.
    The establishment of the foundation greatly pleases the Korean people who are working hard to build a great prosperous powerful nation, closely rallied around Kim Jong Il true to the behests of President Kim Il Sung, he said, adding: This will instill conviction and courage into the world progressives aspiring after independence including the Juche idea followers.
    He expressed the conviction that the foundation would creditably perform its noble mission and achieve its objective and thus greatly contribute to achieving the cause of global independence.
    Then, followed a speech by Johnny Hon.
    The purpose of the foundation is to ensure successful awarding of the "International Kim Il Sung Prize" and contribute to the study and dissemination of the Juche idea fathered by Kim Il Sung, global peace and the cause of independence, he said, adding:
    Kim Il Sung is an outstanding great man and political elder as he devoted his whole life to the sacred cause for the freedom and happiness of the Korean people, to the progress of humankind and peace of the world. It is our duty to widely disseminate his idea worldwide.


DPRK Academic Titles Conferred on Foreigners

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The DPRK academic title of honorary professor and title of honorary doctor of economics were awarded to Johnny Hon, chairman of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation who is chairman of the Global Group of Britain, and the DPRK title of master of linguistics to Lu Yunpeng, member of the Tianjin branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
    Johnny Hon has made every sincere effort for the establishment of the International Kim Il Sung Foundation carrying the august name of President Kim Il Sung, the founder of the Juche idea, and made a great contribution to boosting the multifaceted economic cooperation and exchange with the DPRK.
    Lu Yunpeng studied the linguistic characteristics of the construction of the Korean grammar, thus making a positive contribution to the development of the education in the Korean language.
    Awarding ceremonies took place at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Wednesday.

Cuban Embassy Officials Help Korean Farmers

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Jose Manuel Galego Montano, Cuban ambassador to the DPRK, and embassy officials gave a helping hand to Korean farmers of the DPRK-Cuba Friendship Hwasong Co-op Farm in Ryongsong District of Pyongyang in harvesting on Oct. 17.
    After being briefed on the history of the farm, the guests helped farmers in rice-thrashing work.
    During break, the guests conversed with farmers and sang songs with them, deepening the friendly feelings.
    The Cuban ambassador noted that the friendly relations between Cuba and the DPRK are growing stronger as the days go by, hoping that the farmers would register great success in the agricultural production this year.


British Diplomats Help Korean Farmers

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- John Everard, British ambassador to the DPRK, and embassy officials gave a helping hand to farmers of Paeksong Co-op Farm in Phyongsong City of South Phyongan Province in rice harvesting on Oct. 17.
    During break, the guests enjoyed an art performance given by kindergarteners and conversed with officials of the farm.
    They handed aid materials to the farm.


Palhae, Haedongsongguk

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Palhae existed as a powerful state from 698 to 926, demonstrating the dignity and honor of the nation in the 5,000 year long Korean history.
    It, successor to Koguryo, achieved a great progress in all fields, political, economic, military and cultural, in a short time.
    The supreme rulers of Palhae were at the position of great king (emperor). As the kings of Palhae subordinated kings of various kingdoms, they were called "hwangsang", "chonson" (descendant of Heaven) and the like.
    In its home and foreign policies, too, Palhae took an independent stand and established relations with surrounding countries and defended the territorial integrity of the country from the invasion of foreign forces.
    Palhae, which could mobilize 400,000-strong troops in the early years of its foundation, kept hundreds of thousands of regular standing armed forces in the whole period of its existence. And by force of the troops, it regained most of the Koguryo territory.
    Its economy and culture were on a very high level.
    Its rice in Rosong, soybean malt in Chaeksong, plum in Hwando, pear in Rakyu and other agricultural products, silk in Ryongju, iron in Wisong and hemp cloth in Hyonju were popular at home and abroad. In particular, bronze, one of the major export goods, was in great demand.
    Poems "Cloth-pounding sound in the evening", "One feels homesick, looking up to the moon" and other literary works proved that the cultural attainments and emotion of the Palhae people were on a high standard.
    Palhae was called haedongsongguk (a thriving country in the Orient) by the world people during its 200-odd-year long existence.
    The fine traditions and history of Palhae were inherited by Koryo, the first unified state of the Korean nation.


Colorful Painting, Heritage of Architectural Decoration

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The Korean people had applied tanchong (colorful painting) to wooden buildings from ancient times.
    There are three kinds of tanchong--pom, moru and kum tanchong. Typical of them is moru tanchong.
    What is main in the painting is the moru patterns. It could be applied to all kinds of buildings.
    Pom tanchong was to decorate the ground color with black and white colors without any other patterns. And kum tanchong was to decorate the wooden parts of buildings with fine patterns and various brilliant colors.
    The widely used patterns were lotus flower, pomegranate's fruit and pond-snail.
    The upper parts of buildings such as bracket, ceiling and eaves were painted blue and the lower parts including pillars painted red.
    The colorful painting has further developed in the period of Koryo after the period of three kingdoms and was refined and enriched in its decoration, pattern and color harmony during the Ri Dynasty.
    The tomb mural paintings of Koguryo and the colorful painting of the Panyabo Shrine of Phyohun Temple in Mt. Kumgang have been widely known to the world.


Director of IIJI Interviewed

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Takao Kamakura, director of the board of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, on a visit to the DPRK was interviewed by KCNA after visiting the Monument to Party Foundation on October 15.
    The monument comprehensively shows the historic course covered by the Workers' Party of Korea under the wise guidance of the great leader, he said, and went on:
    The might of the WPK would be unthinkable without the Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung.
    General Secretary Kim Jong Il has conducted energetic ideological and theoretical activities and provided tested leadership, developing the Juche idea in depth and strengthening the WPK into a party absolutely supported and trusted by the popular masses.
    The emblem of the WPK which depicts a sickle, a hammer and a writing-brush clearly shows that it is a revolutionary party of the working class and a mass party of the working people.
    The WPK regards it as its fundamental principle to look after the destiny of the people to the end in a responsible manner, putting the interests of the people above anything else.
    It has laid down the most correct line and policies in each period and at each stage of the developing revolution, arousing the broad masses to the struggle for their implementation.
    It will always demonstrate its might as the invincible party guided by the Juche idea as it is led by Kim Jong Il.


Unity of Progressive Forces Called for

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- 48 civic and public organizations of south Korea including the Citizens' Solidarity for Peaceful Reunification, the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and the Society for Commemorating the Movement for Democratization reportedly held a joint press conference in Seoul on October 12 at which they called upon all the progressive forces to struggle in unity.
    Speakers said at the press conference that progress is being made in the struggle to pave a wide avenue for the nation amid the expectation and concern of all the fellow countrymen for peace, reunification and co-prosperity of the nation.
    It is important, above all, for all the progressive forces to unite in order to bring about a victory of the progressive camp in the upcoming "presidential elections" as an immediate task, they stated.
    A joint statement was read out at the press conference.


Repeal of NSL Demanded in S. Korea

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The People's Solidarity for the Abolition of the "National Security Law" in south Korea reportedly issued a statement on October 11 at which it held that the security mechanism violating the rights of the people should be abolished and the NSL, an evil law of the era, be repealed at once.
    Of late the security authorities are desperately working to fake up all sorts of false cases, the statement said, adding it is chiefly aimed at inventing a pretext to crack down on the progressive camp in the run-up to the "presidential elections" this year.
    It stated that there is no justification for the security mechanism and the NSL to remain in force as they define the north as the "enemy" and suppress the freedom of thinking and expression of the people from all walks of life despite the fact that the desire for peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula is growing stronger.


Kim Jong Il's Work Published in Venezuela

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's famous work "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" was brought out in booklet by the Canta Clara Publishing House of Venezuela.
    The work, published on October 2, Juche 84 (1995), has served as an immortal programme for party building and activities as it reviewed with pride the glorious history of the WPK, which paved a new way for building a revolutionary party in the era of independence under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, and indicated the road of developing and consolidating it as the eternal party of the President.
    A book releasing ceremony took place at the head office of the Communist Party of Venezuela on October 8.
    Present there were Oscar Figuera, general secretary of the Central Committee of the party, and others.


WPK Praised in Democratic Congo

   Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- Only victory and glory will always be in store for the Workers' Party of Korea having Kim Jong Il as its general secretary.
    Otete Gaston Mboyo, chairman of the National Committee of the Genuine Lumumbist Patriotic Party of Democratic Congo, said this in a statement issued on Oct. 5 on the occasion of the 62nd birthday of the Workers' Party of Korea.
    The statement said that President Kim Il Sung, who gave origin to the revolutionary party building in the era of Juche with formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union, provided an organizational and ideological foundation for party founding as early as in the period of anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and founded the party right after the liberation of the country. He energetically worked for strengthening and developing the party till the last moments of his life, it added.
    Kim Jong Il has achieved the unity and cohesion of the party in thinking and will with his extraordinary wisdom and outstanding political caliber, while leading the WPK, thus helping protect its character as a party of Kim Il Sung and demonstrate the might as an ever-victorious party with original Songun politics, it stressed, and continued:
    The DPRK has defended socialism and brought about a turning phase for the building of a great prosperous powerful country, standing firm against the United States which styles itself the world's only super power, holding aloft the banner of Songun under the leadership of the WPK. This instills great strength and courage into us.

Nong Duc Manh visita Mangyongdae

   Pyongyang, 17 de octubre (ATCC) -- El secretario general del Comite Central del Partido Comunista de Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, visito este miercoles la casa natal del Presidente Kim Il Sung en Mangyongdae.
     Le acompanaron Pham Gia Khiem, miembro del Buro Politico del CC del PCV, vicepremier del gobierno y canciller, y otros acompanantes, asi como el embajador en Corea Le Van Cu.
     Tras colocar un cesto de flores ante esta casa, los visitantes vieron los objetos historicos escuchando las explicaciones sobre el hecho de que el Presidente nacido en esa choza formulo un gran proposito de restaurar el pais y emprendio en su tierna edad el camino de la revolucion y sobre sus familiares patrioticos y revolucionarios.
