National Unity Called for

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- The present reality requires all Koreans to pool their will and efforts to stage a more dynamic sacred struggle to usher in an era of national prosperity, the new era of independent reunification.
Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
The era of independent reunification that came to Korea thanks to the adoption of the historic June 15 joint declaration eloquently proves that there is nothing impossible for the Koreans when they pool efforts and achieve unity and cooperation, the article observes, and goes on:
The Koreans have victoriously advanced the movement for independent reunification, bravely meeting all the challenges despite the evermore undisguised moves of the separatist forces inside and outside Korea in recent years. This is entirely ascribable to the might of national unity and cooperation based on the idea of "By our nation itself".
The historic June 15 joint declaration is a banner of national unity as it calls on all Koreans to achieve reconciliation and unity under the banner of national independence. Only when the Korean nation has the stand and attitude of national independence, can it achieve the reconciliation, unity and cooperation on the road of national reunification.
The declaration underscores the need to independently solve the issue of national reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation responsible for the issue.
The declaration is a patriotic banner encouraging all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to actively turn out in the struggle to achieve the unity, enshrining the noble spirit of patriotism.
The declaration set forth the patriotic great proposition "By our nation itself," stirring up the love for the country and the nation enshrined in the hearts of all Koreans.
All Koreans are turning out in the movement for national reunification, greatly inspired by the spirit of patriotism enshrined in the above-said proposition.

Rodong Sinmun on Basic Idea of DPRK's Foreign Policy

Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- The DPRK will carry on the revolution and construction in Korean style under the uplifted banner of independence and make a positive contribution to accelerating the global cause of independence, boosting solidarity and cooperation with the world progressives advocating independence. Rodong Sinmun today declares this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
Independence is the avowed basic idea of the foreign policy of the DPRK.
The independent policy of the DPRK is the most advantageous and mighty political mode as it meets the intrinsic demand of human beings and propels the independent development of the country and the nation.
If a country fails to make revolution and construction independently and enforce its foreign policy from an independent stand and principle, it will not be possible for the country and nation to prevent their sovereignty and interests from being violated nor is it possible for them to escape from the danger of being subject to the imperialists and dominationists.
If a country fails to maintain independence in politics but applies such "remedies" as "democracy", "human rights" and "multi-party system" much touted by the imperialists, it will not be able to escape a social and political confusion and inter-national and inter-tribal dispute.
The DPRK has independently decided on all the foreign policies in keeping with the interests of the Korean people and the requirements of the Korean revolution and handled all issues arising in the international relations according to its independent judgment and view and developed the friendly and cooperative ties with foreign countries on the principle of mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference, equality and reciprocity.
The Songun policy enforced by the Workers' Party of Korea is the most vivid manifestation of the independent policy to resolutely defend the sovereignty and dignity of the country and the nation.
The DPRK has fully exercised its sovereign rights without reading other's face and tolerating other's interference in its internal affairs and pressure on it even in the slightest degree thanks to the tremendous military capability built under the banner of Songun.

The press release said: Now that there is a bright prospect of national reunification, all the evil laws including the "National Security Law" and institutional mechanisms should be liquidated and the U.S. forces forced to immediately withdraw from south Korea.

Japanese Government's Hostile Policy toward DPRK Denounced

Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Koji Ito, who was leading a delegation of the Nagano Prefectural People's Council for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea on a visit to the DPRK, denounced the Japanese government for its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
He accused the Japanese government of persisting in its hostile moves against the DPRK as evidenced by its acts of tightening the "sanctions" against the DPRK, barring Koreans and Korean students in Japan from visiting their homeland by ship and seriously obstructing the business activities of Korean workers in commerce.
Noting that the Japanese government is using even state power, attributing its suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan to the "abduction issue", he said that the Japanese authorities' suppression of the Koreans who have lived in Japan, subject to national discrimination, is in contravention of humanitarianism.
The 2002 Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration and the 2004 Japan-DPRK summit were the historic events of great significance in restoring the confidence between the two countries and improving the bilateral relations, he noted, and continued:
The Japanese government should make an apology and compensation for the misfortune and pain inflicted upon the Korean people in the past, redress its past wrongs and immediately withdraw its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
It is the desire of the peoples of Japan and the DPRK to put an end to the abnormal relations between the two countries and normalize the bilateral relations. The Korean people are now waging a dynamic struggle for national reunification, united close around General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
The Nagano Prefectural People's Council for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea will make all its efforts for the accomplishment of the cause of Korea's reunification and the Japan-DPRK friendship and in defence of the rights of Koreans in Japan and their interests.
