Expansion and Development of South-South Cooperation Urged

Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to expand and develop South-South cooperation, declared Choe Su Hon, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, who was heading the DPRK delegation, on September 27 at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of 77 held on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly.
Manifesting the view of the delegation on the meeting's purport of defining the common stand of the G-77 toward the main agenda items of the economic and social fields which were brought up for discussion at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, he said:
The G-77 should make the common actions of the developing countries against the unilateral and strong-arm practices in the economic and social fields more organized and strengthened and continue to orchestrate the efforts to expand and boost South-South cooperation.
It should promote the expansion and development of South-South cooperation, keeping hold on this as its unswerving policy guideline and enhance its capacity of collective action as the champion of the interests of the developing countries in multilateral negotiating arenas.
Showing deep interest in boosting South-South cooperation, the DPRK government has devoted disinterested support and efforts, zealously involving itself in the Non-Aligned Movement and the activities of the G-77 and the United Nations system.
The DPRK government, true to its commitments at the Second South Summit, initiated cooperation programs in different realms such as agriculture, bioscience, standardization and measurement for a number of developing countries in Asia and Africa and has made governmental efforts for their implementation this year, too, following last year and gained good experience and results in this course.
The DPRK will make in the future, too, an active contribution to the building of a peaceful and prosperous independent world by fulfilling its obligation and duty in establishing a new international economic order based on justice, equality and impartiality and further expanding and developing South-South cooperation based on collective self-reliance.

Eradication of Racism and Racial Discrimination Called for

Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- The government of the DPRK will join the international community in its efforts to build a new world free from racism and racial discrimination and do all it can to achieve the objective, declared a DPRK delegate addressing the 6th meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on Sept. 25.
Noting that racism has not yet been eradicated though six years have passed since the UN anti-racism conference was held in Durban of South Africa, he emphasized this is chiefly attributable to the lack of the proper settlement of past wrongs.
The international community at the Durban conference urged those states that institutionally perpetrated the crimes related to racism and racial discrimination in the past to admit their responsibilities for them and pay due compensation and reparation to the states, communities and individuals that suffered them but this just demand has still been ignored, he said and went on:
Korea was subjected to severe national discrimination and unbearable humiliation for over four decades under the military occupation of Japanese imperialism.
In that period more than 8.4 million Koreans were forcibly drafted, over one million Koreans were killed and 200,000 Korean women were forced into sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army.
Moreover, Koreans were forced to change their own names into Japanese ones and use Japanese instead of Korean.
The above-mentioned crimes have not yet been redeemed even in this new century and the international community is increasingly worried about the possible reoccurrence of those crimes.
Korean residents in Japan, descendants of the Koreans who were taken to Japan during its colonial rule over Korea, are subjected to harsh suppression and discrimination in all aspects such as education, healthcare and employment for the mere reason that they are Koreans and citizens of the DPRK.
Such actions cannot be justified under any circumstances but should be halted at once.
