Teacher Sin Se Hung, who accompanied the DPRK team to the 48th International Math Olympiad, told KCNA:
The International Math Olympiad has been held annually since Juche 48 (1959) amid interests of experts. It is a world-wide math competition showing the level of the general education and talent reserves of a given country.
The history of the competition shows that countries which participated in the math Olympiad for the first time were at low level.
But the DPRK students proved successful at the 31st International Math Olympiad in which they participated for the first time and bagged a gold and four silver medals at the 48th Olympiad in July last.
Heads of delegations from different countries expressed their admiration at the fact that the DPRK has a large contingent of talent reserves, saying that many countries give special education to students for the Olympiad but the DPRK selects students through a nation-wide math contest.
The chairman of the International Math Olympiad Organizing Committee sincerely congratulated the DPRK on its success and hoped that it would continue to participate in the competitions and display a high standard of ability.

Flowering Korean Folk Tradition

Pyongyang, September 13 (KCNA) -- The culture and tradition inherent to the nation are efflorescing in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea day by day.
The Korean people play folk games such as yut, Ssirum (Korean Wrestling) and swing on the lunar Jaunary 15th, Chusok (the lunar August 15th) and other folk holidays from olden times. Children enjoy amusements including kite flying, shuttlecock and sleigh riding.
The DPRK encourages the work to find out national ways and positively develop them, while auspiciously celebrating folk holidays.
Experts on folklore have written and published various valuable books including seven-volume "Korean Folk Tradition" to make a great contribution to positively retaining folk tradition peculiar to the nation.
They have developed and arranged enlightenment songs which were created in the period of the patriotic cultural movement to publish the book "Collection of Enlightenment Songs" as a precious heritage of national culture.
And a national show of Korean costume takes place annually to develop in accordance with the modern sense of beauty chima and jogori (Korean jacket and skirt) the women are fond of and lots of local special foods have been found in different parts of the country.
Kim Jong Il's famous work "On Preserving Positively the Excellent National Tradition of Our People" serves as important guidelines in carrying forward the national traditions of the Korean people.

U.S. Hegemonic Foreign Policy under Fire

Pyongyang, September 13 (KCNA) -- The ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement on human rights and diversity of culture held in Tehran some time ago presented a scene of exposure and denunciation of the unjustifiable and shameless foreign policy of the United States designed to Americanize and dominate the whole world by wielding the stick of "human rights" and "democracy."
The biggest "brake" on the promotion of human rights today is the infringement on sovereignty by the U.S. and the West and their maneuvers to overthrow the systems of other countries under the cloak of "defense of human rights," declares Rodong Sinmun Thursday.
Noting that the "human rights" offensive launched by the U.S. is, in essence, intended to establish an American-style order of global domination designed to Americanize and westernize the world by forcing Western-style "model of human rights" upon the international community, the analyst of the daily continues:
The strategic target sought by the U.S. in the "human rights" offensive is to achieve the "integration" of the world in the matter of human rights.
It can never be justified in any case that the U.S. interferes in the internal affairs of other countries and infringes upon their sovereignty under the pretext of "human rights issue." The U.S. argues that "meddling in human rights is not interference in internal affairs" as human rights are "universal value transcending borders." But this is a preposterous sophism that can work with no one.
The attempt to realize "globalization" by forcing Western "democracy" and "human rights" upon other countries is a criminal act destroying the inherent national character and traditions of developing countries.
The non-aligned countries manifested at the ministerial meeting their will to counter with intensified joint action the interference in internal affairs and infringement upon sovereignty committed by the U.S. and the West while trumpeting "human rights," "democracy" and "globalization." This is a just act for defense of the sovereignty of the countries and the prosperity and development of the nations.
In the DPRK Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses is firmly defended and true human rights are brought into bloom through decisive frustration of the "human rights" offensive of the imperialists. This reality is a shining fruition of Songun politics.
The U.S. should drop the hegemonic foreign policy going against history veiled with "human rights" and "democracy," clearly seeing the mindset of the world people and the flow of history.

National Cooperation Called for

Pyongyang, September 13 (KCNA) -- National cooperation serves as a powerful engine and a main factor of promoting the movement for national reunification. The idea of "By our nation itself" enshrined in the June 15 joint declaration is a milestone for achieving national cooperation involving all classes and strata.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday observes this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The idea of "By our nation itself" serves as a spiritual weapon as it arouses all Koreans who love the country and nation to a sacred patriotic struggle for national cooperation and helps them perform their responsibilities and roles in accomplishing the cause of reunification.
The idea of "By our nation itself" reflects the desire and resolution of all Koreans to beat the foreign forces which have done tremendous harm to the Korean nation and preserve the Juche character and national character and thus fully demonstrate the national dignity.
In the June 15 era of reunification, all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas are waging a dynamic movement for reunification in concord and unity, aware of their mission and sense of responsibility as a driving force for national reunification. This reality indicates that the above-said idea is serving as a spiritual weapon for achieving national cooperation, rejecting foreign forces.
The above-said idea serves, at the same time, as a banner ensuring peace and security of the country and promoting peace and reunification by dint of national cooperation.
The destiny of the Korean nation and the future of the cause of national reunification depend on whether the Koreans frustrate the sinister plots of the United States to start a new war, defend peace of the country and promote the cause of peaceful reunification or not.
The idea of "By our nation itself" encourages all Koreans at home and abroad in the struggle to achieve cooperation for peace by their concerted efforts against cooperation with foreign forces for war.
An attitude toward the idea of "By our nation itself," therefore, serves as a touchstone distinguishing patriotism from treachery and reunification from division, concludes the article.

The director of the department for Police Equipment of Zimbabwe after appreciating a film lauded Kim Il Sung as the greatest leader who performed immortal exploits for the Korean revolution and the world revolution.
The general directors and directors of different companies including the Adita Ariya Prawira Ship Co. of Indonesia said that the world progressive people are greatly encouraged by the reality of the DPRK fully demonstrating its dignity and might despite the imperialists' moves against it, adding that it has a rosy future thanks to Kim Jong Il.

Fight for Withdrawal of U.S. Forces Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, September 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly released a statement on September 8, in which it called upon the people of all social strata to intensify the struggle to end the history of the U.S. forces' occupation and turn out in the struggle for their withdrawal and the dissolution of the Grand National Party of south Korea.
The U.S. forces are committing all manner of crimes, bossing it around at will in south Korea, and are running about like a headless chicken in arms buildup and war exercises to gratify aggressive ambition against the north at any cost, noted the statement.
Now is the June 15 era of reunification, the statement noted, adding: The U.S. forces' occupation of south Korea cannot be justified any longer.
On the same day, south Korean parties and civic and public organizations including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, the preparatory committee of the Solidarity for the Progress of south Korea and the Democratic Labor Party jointly held a "rally to vow to fight for the signing of a peace agreement, withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea and halt to the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek" in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan, Seoul, and demanded the signing of a peace agreement on the premise of the U.S. forces' withdrawal.
