Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from S. Korea Demanded

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The United States recently let the U.S. 8th Army Command stationed in south Korea and those "who claimed to be experts on Korean affairs" assert that the U.S. forces should stay in south Korea to carry out their duties to deter provocations and strive hard to contain the neighboring powers and preserve peace.
Some days ago, U.S. President Bush let loose sophism intended to justify the presence of the U.S. troops in south Korea.
Rodong Sinmun Friday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:
The U.S. advertisement of its forces in south Korea as "war deterrent" and "forces for peace-keeping" is nothing but sheer sophism. If the U.S. truly stands for preventing a war on the Korean Peninsula and ensuring peace in the Northeast Asia, it should make a bold decision to pull its troops out of south Korea.
The military occupation of south Korea by the U.S. imperialists was a product of their hegemonic ambition to bring the whole of the Asia-Pacific under its military control by using the Korean Peninsula, the gateway to Asia, as a springboard and thus to dominate the whole world.
It is the ulterior intention of the U.S. to carry out its reactionary strategy for invading the DPRK and the rest of Asia by using south Korea as a springboard.
As proved by the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises staged in south Korea recently, the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea and their ceaseless large-scale war exercises are the main factors of threatening peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia and a most vivid manifestation of the hostile policy of the U.S. toward the DPRK.
The undisguised attempt made by the U.S. to perpetuate its forces' presence in south Korea at a time when positive developments are taking place in the inter-Korean relations cannot be interpreted otherwise than a dangerous move.
The withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea is so urgently demanded by the Korean nation and the times that it brooks not a moment's delay.
The pullback of the U.S. troops from south Korea would help remove the root cause of war, defuse the tension and open a phase decisively favorable for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia.
This is also beneficial for bringing down the structure of the Cold War in Northeast Asia and preventing military confrontation and arms race in the region, concludes the commentary.

Building of Economic Power Called for

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The work to lay a material and economic foundation of socialism is closely related to the work to consolidate the socialist system such as augmenting the political and ideological might, building up its military position and stepping up cultural construction, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article.
Nothing is more important for the DPRK than building an economic power now that it has unbreakable single-minded unity and powerful national defence capacity, the article says, and goes on:
To dynamically step up the construction of an economic power is an important political work aimed at helping the people enshrine firm faith in socialism and an important work to encourage them to fully demonstrate the independent dignity of Korean-style socialism.
It also provides a sure guarantee for foiling the imperialists' sanctions and blockade and firmly defending the socialist system.
Absolute and unshakable is the Korean people's faith in socialism.
Only when the building of an economic power is energetically stepped up to enable the people to lead a happy life with nothing to desire more in the world will their shouts of "Long live Korean-style socialism!" ring out louder on this land and will the political and ideological basis of the socialist system grow stronger than ever before.
Korean-style socialism based on the Juche idea is demonstrating its dignity all over the world as socialism with strong Juche character and national identity.
It was thanks to the powerful military power and the solid independent economic foundation that the DPRK has firmly maintained the independent stand in politics and reliably defended Korean-style socialism despite worldwide political upheavals and economic fluctuation and fully exercised independence in external relations.
The DPRK has firmly protected socialism to the last, foiling the enemies' sanctions and blockade despite the worst adversity, an object of the world's big concern, because it laid a solid economic foundation with much effort long ago and has waged a bold offensive to build an economic power in a do-or-die spirit.

Spirit of Defending Leader with Very Life Displayed in Flood-hit Areas

Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The recent unprecedented heavy rains triggered off flood and landslide in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, causing heavy human and material losses.
But the flood-victims directed attention to protecting the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il than their families.
The torrential rains on August 9 submerged the township area of Hoeyang County. Over a thousand families there were evacuated to safety places. They came there, carrying not their properties but the portraits of the President and the leader.
Students of Koksan County School for Agricultural Skilled Workers and people in the county defended the picture of smiling President from the downpour.
Ri Chun Hwa, a worker of the Changdo County Clothing Factory, brought over 1,500 books carrying the images of the great men of Mt. Paektu, from the County Publication Circulation Office to a safe place through torrents of water at the risk of her life.
Many people including People's Security officer Choe Myong Gil in Ichon County and teacher of Ichon Middle School No. 1 Hwang Myong Ok rushed in public buildings and dwelling houses without hesitation to save portraits, realizing that they would soon crumble.
Among such people are peasant of the Jongdong Co-op Farm in Phyonggang County Cha Hyang Mi who handed over portraits to rescuers and went to the bottom of the torrent water, peasant of the same farm Pak Jong Ryol who lost his wife and child by landslide but saved the portraits and worker of the Ichon Foodstuff Factory Kang Hyong Gwon who firmly took portraits in his hands in flood though his five-year-old daughter slipped down from his back.
After the flood, corpses were dug out of the silt. Found out in their bosom were portraits wrapped with vinyl sheets to prevent them from being spoiled by water.
It is the just outlook on life of the Korean people to enjoy their existence, dignity and happiness in the effort for defending the leader at the cost of their lives.

The bulletin carried articles titled " Exploits President Kim Il Sung performed by founding the state," "Songun exploits of His Excellency Kim Jong Il shining in human history," "Songun politics and Korean-style socialism" and "Korea, genuine people-centered country. "
In the articles the bulletin stressed that the DPRK founded by President Kim Il Sung is a country winning sure victories thanks to the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il and an impregnable bulwark defending the people's destiny with strong military power, a genuine popular state firmly protecting and ensuring the independent rights of the popular masses and a cradle of happiness as it guarantees the people a material and cultural life.
Korean socialism winning victory after victory today serves as a banner instilling strength and courage into the world progressive people, it said, adding:
Thanks to the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il the Korean people will surely build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the cause of national reunification in the near future.
