Drive to Clear away Flood Damage Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Officials and working people in various parts of the country are now busy with the drive to clear away the flood damage.
The Cabinet, commissions and ministries are taking concrete actions to preferentially supply cement and steel and other necessary materials to those units hit by flood on the basis of the specific information about the damage.
A brisk drive is now under way in the flood-stricken areas under the concern of the whole state and society and with their positive support. Working people in Sinphyong, Koksan, Singye, Yonsan and Sohung counties of North Hwanghae Province which were hard hit by the flood are busy reconstructing the destroyed dwelling houses and public buildings, bringing the living of the inhabitants to normal and keeping the inundated farm land in good order.
Work is progressing apace to rehabilitate the destroyed roads and bridges and clear away the damage done to farm land in such flood-stricken areas as Yangdok, Sinyang, Maengsan and Pukchang counties of South Phyongan Province.
South Hwanghae Province and Kangwon Province are pushing forward the work to deepen ditches and reinforce dykes.
Successes in the recovery work are being reported from different flood-stricken places and units in Pyongyang including Rungra Islet, the Changgwang Health Complex and the Mangyongdae Fun Fair.
Railway service has resumed since many sections of railroads were restored in a brief span of time through a high-pitched drive for rehabilitation in the field of railway transport.
Officials and working people in the field of post and telecommunications are also proving successful in restoring the destroyed or submerged sectors of cables.
GNP's Reckless Remarks under Fire
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- No sooner had the report on the expected north-south summit been made public than Ri Myong Bak and other heavyweights of the Grand National Party of south Korea blustered that "it should not adversely affect the presidential elections" and "it should serve the purpose of opening the north to the world." As if they were not enough with this, they let loose sheer sophism that the summit should be postponed till the emergence of the next government.
A particular mention should be made of the fact that Ri Myong Bak, from the day after he was chosen as a presidential candidate from the GNP, blustered that "the summit should not be used to serve the election purpose," raving that "to negotiate with the north while it keeps nukes means admitting its access to them" and "the north can opt for reform and opening only when it scraps its nuclear program first".
A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in a statement Thursday strongly blasted these assertions, dismissing them as rash deeds of those who are keen on gratifying their dirty political ambition only in utter disregard of the desire of the nation and the need of the times and an intolerable anti-reunification and treacherous behavior.
When looking back on history, whenever there arose the issue of north-south summit of weighty significance in achieving the country's peace and reunification the GNP malignantly slandered and opposed it, the statement said, and continued:
It is the only preoccupation of the GNP to gratify its greed for power.
The publication of the north-south agreement on the summit of the top leaders of the north and the south aroused growing expectation and concern of the public at home and abroad. Being a group of such political charlatans, the GNP came out to take issue with the summit and oppose it, far-fetchedly asserting that it is to serve the "election purpose" for fear that it may fail in its bid to seek "presidency" due to this event.
It is rather good that the GNP gentries have not shown any will to come to Pyongyang. The event for reunification would be more meaningful without traitors keen to spoil it.
Greetings to President of Trinidad and Tobago
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Thursday sent a message of greetings to George Maxwell Richard, President of Trinidad and Tobago, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of its independence.
Expressing the belief that the friendly relations between the DPRK and Trinidad and Tobago would develop on good terms in the mutual interests, Kim sincerely wished the president of Trinidad and Tobago greater success in his work for the prosperity of the country.
DPRK's Holidays Observed
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Seminars were held in Mongolia and South Africa and a lecture in Romania on Aug. 21 and 23 on the occasions of the 47th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of Songun revolutionary leadership and the 59th founding anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
On display in the venues of the functions were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and photos showing their immortal exploits.
N. Bold, chairman of the Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea of Mongolian Chinggis Khan College, said at a seminar that the reality of the DPRK clearly proves that the Songun politics alone provides a sure guarantee for defending the sovereignty of the country and dignity of the nation and socialism.
The chairman of a branch of the South African Democratic Teachers' Union at a seminar on Kim Jong Il's famous work "Socialism Is a Science" had this to say: Socialism is a science. This is the great truth which can be clarified by Kim Jong Il only.
The Korean people will surely build a great prosperous powerful nation thanks to the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il, he stressed.
Daniel Dediu, chairman of the Romanian Workers' Association, at the lecture, gave a detailed account of the fact that the Korean people have achieved astonishing successes in politics, economy and culture and are carrying out the cause of national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il. The DPRK will continue to demonstrate only victory under the banner of Songun, in the future, too, he added.
Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from S. Korea Urged
New Delhi, August 28 (KCNA) -- The All India Indo−Korean Friendship Association and the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification in a joint statement on August 24 fully supported the DPRK standing firm against the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises now being staged by the U.S. and the south Korean warhawks.
The on-going joint military exercises are a vivid manifestation of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, the statement said, adding: The U.S. and the south Korean warhawks are staging joint military exercises although they committed themselves to work for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and peace on it. This clearly proves that the U.S. has neither an intention to seek a negotiated solution of all issues nor a willingness to build confidence.
The U.S. forces in south Korea are the main stumbling block in the way of Korea's reunification, the statement said, strongly urging the U.S. forces to quit south Korea at an early date.
Halt to War Exercises Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- A candlelight meeting was reportedly held in front of the "commanding control office" of the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" on August 26 to demand a halt to the war exercises under the co-sponsorship of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification.
Speakers at the meeting charged that divided into "defence" and "counter-attack operation," the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises are part of the moves for making preparations for an attack on the north, as proven by their contents. They called on all the people to wage a dynamic struggle for peace on this land.
At the end of the meeting its participants demonstrated with candlelight in their hands.
Meanwhile, south Korean students staged a surprise demonstration in the area around Kwanghwamun of Seoul on August 27 in protest against the "Ulji Focus Lens."
The demonstrators demanded the United States and the south Korean authorities stop at once the war exercises targeted against the north, tearing the Stars and Stripes to pieces.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Steady Advance along Road of Independence
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- It is the law governing the development of human history that it advances through the struggle of the popular masses for independence, shattering the imperialists' ambition for domination and their aggression policy.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday says this in a signed article.
One may say it is Songun that characterizes the development of the times toward independence in the new century, the article notes, and goes on:
People's struggle for independence is accompanied by the confrontation with the counterrevolutionary forces in strength. Film Show Held to Mark Vietnamese National Day
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- A film show was cosponsored by the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the DPRK-Vietnam Friendship Association at the Taedonggang Club for the Diplomatic Corps today on the occasion of the national day of Vietnam.

University Students' Art Groups Give Performance to Mark Anniversary of YCLK
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- University students' art groups from different parts of the country gave a performance at the Central Youth Hall today in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Young Communist League of Korea (YCLK).
It was given by the members of the art groups of the Faculty of Economy of Kim Il Sung University and Sariwon Teacher Training College and the Faculty of Korean Language and Literature of Chongjin University of Education No. 2 who proved successful in the contest among university students art groups across the country.
The performance began with poem and chorus "Song of General Kim Il Sung". The members of the art groups sang of the profound reverence for President Kim Il Sung.
Their repertoire included chorus of undying famous work "Korea, I Will Glorify Thee" and singing to the accompaniment of Kayagum and Oungum "Whenever we think of the journeys for Songun" which highly praised the leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il.
They also staged such numbers as accordion quintet of immortal classic work "I will continue the march towards Mt. Paektu", poem and story-telling "Let's live as they did" and story-telling for agitation "Request of father."

Chilsong Restaurant Conveys Warm Love of President for People
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- The Chilsong Restaurant situated in Puksae area at the foot of Moran Hill has been famous in Pyongyang for its delicious dishes.
The restaurant, once a small one, has turned into a public catering center thanks to the warm care shown by President Kim Il Sung for an affluent life of the citizens.
The original name of the restaurant was the Kirim Restaurant.
He went round various parts of the Moranbong area on August 16, Juche 66 (1977). Then he saw to it that the Kirim Restaurant, a legacy of the old society, was renamed Chilsong Restaurant after the name of the Chilsong Gate associated with the spirit of ancestors who fought for the defense of the country.
While examining the blueprint of the Chilsong Restaurant in the period of constructing a modern street in Moranbong area, he instructed officials that the old building should be pulled down and a modern building for the Chilsong Restaurant built on the very site.
Today the restaurant, the largest catering center in the Puksae area is visited by a lot of foreigners and overseas Koreans, to say nothing of local people.
It serves to the customers bean paste soup and boiled rice, green gram pancake, nochi (a kind of fried cake made of glutinous rice and millet), shish kebab and other folk dishes with the Pyongyang cold noodle as the main.
Kim Yong Hui, manager of the restaurant, told KCNA that all the staff members of the restaurant would arrange better their working site associated with the President's leadership exploits, suitable to the Songun era and improve their service in every way with collective wisdom and efforts.
Success in Infertility Treatment by IVF-ET
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital of the DPRK has made successes in infertility treatment by IVF-ET (in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer) in recent years.
Many IVF-ET babies were born in the country. Among them are twins.
Chief of the Infertility Clinic Hong Kyong Sun told KCNA that the rate of testified pregnancy has reached a high level thanks to the development of subsidiary reproductive technology.
The IVF-ET, a cutting-edge technology, artificially impregnates a woman who had failed to conceive a baby for some reasons.
The maternity hospital fully equipped with modern infertility treatment facilities has solved a series of scientific and technical problems arising in IVF-ET and the preservation of sperm in freezing.
It has also formulated new standard regulations for the IVF-ET embryo transfer.

Modern Fertilizer Production Processes Commissioned
Hamhung, August 30 (KCNA) -- The reconstructed fertilizer production processes of the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex went into operation.

Early Establishment of Normal Japan-DPRK Diplomatic Ties Demanded in Japan
Pyongyang, August 30 (KCNA) -- Kinhide Mushakoji, director of the Asia-Pacific Study Centre of Osaka University of Economics and Law, gave a lecture on an early establishment of normal Japan-DPRK diplomatic ties at the fifth national meeting for exchange among local assemblymen of Japan held in Tokyo on August 20 and 21.
Referring to the Japanese authorities' suppression of the national education of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan, he stressed the need to realize common living within Japan and oppose the colonial policy and subservience to the U.S. at home and abroad.
Member of the Nakano Ward Assembly Seizaburo Eguchi who is representative of the Tokyo Ward Assemblymen's Liaison Society for the Promotion of Japan-Korea Friendship spoke on the activities of the society.

Recuperacion de danos por inundacion en Corea
Pyongyang, 30 de agosto (ATCC) -- Los funcionarios y trabajadores de distintas localidades de Corea despliegan energicamente la labor de resarcimiento de las perdidas por inundaciones.
Tras averiguar en detalles la situacion de los danos, el Consejo de Ministros, los comites y ministerios organizan el abastecimiento preferencial de cemento, materiales de acero y otros recursos necesarios a la reconstruccion.
Bajo la atencion y activo apoyo de todo el pais y toda la sociedad, la reconstruccion cobra vigorosidad en todos los lugares azotados.
En los distritos de Sinphyong, Koksan, Singye, Yonsan y Sohung de la provincia de Hwanghae del Norte, afectados mas que otras partes, se llevan adelante la reconstruccion de las viviendas y edificios publicos destruidos y otras obras para estabilizar la vida de los pobladores y la reparacion de los terrenos cultivables anegados.

Restaurante Chilsong
Pyongyang, 30 de agosto (ATCC) -- El Restaurante Chilsong enclavado en la zona de Puksae al pie de la colina Moran es uno de los famosos centros gastronomicos de esta capital.
Este comedor, que antes fue de pequena dimension, se convirtio hoy en un centro de servicio publico predilecto de los capitalinos gracias al gran amor del Presidente Kim Il Sung quien hizo ingentes esfuerzos por preparar al pueblo una vida acomodada.
El comedor se llamaba Kirim desde el principio.
Hace ahora 30 anos, exactamente el 16 de agosto del 66 (1977) de la Era Juche, el Presidente recorrio varios lugares de la zona de la colina Moran.
Al divisar el entonces Restaurante Kirim donde se notaban todavia los vestigios y huellas de la vieja sociedad, el propuso cambiar su nombre por el "Chilsong" imitando la Puerta homonima donde reposa el espiritu de los antepasados que defendieron el pais de la agresion foranea.
Cuando en esa region se edificaba una moderna avenida, el Presidente se persono a consultar la maqueta del Restaurante Chilsong.
En esa ocasion instruyo eliminar por completo el viejo edificio y construir en el mismo lugar el otro moderno.
Desde entonces, el Restaurante Chilsong se hizo la base gastronomica mas grande en la zona de Puksae, ampliamente conocida por los nacionales, coreanos en ultramar y hasta por los extranjeros.
El plato fuerte de este comedor es el fideo en caldo frio de Pyongyang.
Igualmente, se ofrecen el arroz con sopa de pasta de soya, tortilla de lenteja verde, carne asada en broqueta y otros platos nacionales y variadas comidas.
Consultada por la ATCC, la gerente del restaurante Kim Yong Hui dijo que todos los miembros directivos y otros empleados estan decididos a acondicionar mejor el centro de su trabajo, donde se hallan las proezas de direccion del Presidente, conforme a la epoca del Songun (priorizacion militar) y a garantizar la maxima calidad de los servicios aunando sus inteligencias y fuerzas.
Actos en varios paises por efemerides coreanas
Pyongyang, 30 de agosto (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 47o aniversario del inicio de la direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il sobre la revolucion mediante el Songun (priorizacion militar) y del 59o aniversario de la fundacion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, tuvieron lugar los dias 21 y 23 seminarios en Mongolia y Sudafrica y conferencia en Rumania, respectivamente.
En las sedes de actividades fueron exhibidas las obras maestras del Presidente Kim Il Sung y el Dirigente Kim Jong Il y las fotos alusivas a sus imborrables hazanas.
N. Bold, presidente del Centro de Estudio de la Idea Juche de la Universidad de Chinggis Khan de Mongolia, intervino en el seminario, en el cual dijo que la realidad de Corea muestra que la politica de Songun deviene la firme garantia para defender la soberania del pais, la dignidad de la nacion y el socialismo. El presidente del Grupo de Estudio de la Idea Progresista de la sucursal de la Union de Profesores Democratas de Sudafrica en el Norte de Pretoria, menciono, en el seminario sobre la obra del Dirigente "El socialismo es ciencia", que esta idea reflejada en el titulo del trabajo resulta una gran verdad que pudo ser descubierta unicamente por Su Excelencia Kim Jong Il.
Anadio que bajo la politica de Songun de Su Excelencia Kim Jong Il, el pueblo coreano edificara sin falta una gran potencia prospera.
Daniel Dediu, presidente de la Asociacion de Trabajadores de Rumania, dio a conocer detalladamente en la conferencia los excepcionales exitos que logra el pueblo coreano bajo la direccion del Dirigente en la politica, la economia y la cultura y en el cumplimiento de la causa de reunificacion de la patria y se refirio a que bajo la bandera del Songun la RPDC siempre avanzara victoriosamente.
