Hamhung, August 16 (KCNA) -- The 59th plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea took place in Hamhung on August 14.
The meeting discussed the tasks to be implemented by the organizations of the GFTUK to further strengthen the work to uphold and glorify the immortal leadership exploits of the three generals of Mt. Paektu.
A report was delivered by Chairman of the C.C., GFTUK Kim Pyong Phal to be followed by speeches.

The meeting proposed making those units associated with the leadership exploits of the three generals of Mt. Paektu models to be followed by trade union organizations in the work and called on them to wage a dynamic drive to achieve a clear-cut goal of helping the units take the lead in the mass movement.
The meeting underscored the need for all trade union officials to become officials of ability who prove successful in their work with the same intense loyalty to the leader, fervent enthusiasm and great ability as displayed by the Party officials in the period of laying down the Party's foundation for carrying forward the cause of Juche in the 1970s.

S. Korean Organizations Demand Cancellation of Plan for Joint War Exercises

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly called a press conference in Seoul on August 13, at which they released a letter of protest to be sent to the commander of the south Korea-U.S. "combined forces" demanding the cancellation of the plan for exercises for a war of aggression against the north.
The letter noted that the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises are aimed at disturbing peace and blocking the reunification of the Korean Peninsula as they would be staged according to the war scenario to invade the north for the purpose of "bringing down the north."
The large-scale joint military exercises to be staged with at least 10,000 U.S. forces based in south Korea and overseas and south Korean forces and ultra-modern war hardware involved are, to all intents and purposes, maneuvers to pose military threat to the north and attack it, the letter noted.
Demanding that the U.S. cancel its plan for war exercises at once and withdraw its forces from south Korea, the letter warned that if the U.S. stages the "Ulji Focus Lens" for aggression, all Koreans will never allow this.

Korean Central History Museum

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- The well-furnished Korean Central History Museum on the shore of the River Taedong in Pyongyang is making a significant contribution to the display of the time-honored history of the Korean nation.
The museum had only 2,000 or more pieces of relics shortly after the liberation of Korea. But it has developed into a reliable centre of preservation of historic relics, a powerful center of academic studies and a place for the education of the masses with a large number of national cultural legacies on show. They include Koryo porcelain, the world's first metallic types and iron-clad vessel "turtle ship", and rain gauge which tell about the struggle of famous patriotic generals and master hands and the Korean people in general and the wisdom and talent of the ancestors.
The museum has constantly unearthed and collected historic relics and materials and deepened academic studies of them, thus enriching the treasure store of national cultural heritage and helping toward the formulation of the history of the Korean nation spanning 50 centuries.
In recent years alone, it added to the exhibits scores of items of relics including relics of the primitive and ancient ages, gold- copper lotus flower ornaments and various kinds of iron tools of the Palhae Dynasty and the Taeja Temple's Bell of the Koryo Dynasty.
The museum also arranged in various forms and ways a photo exhibition of Koguryo mural paintings, an exhibition of historic relics of the Koryo Dynasty and an exhibition of porcelain of the Ri Dynasty.
During the last six decades from August 17, Juche 36 (1947) when President Kim Il Sung, in company with Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk, visited the museum, over 9 million servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, working people from all walks of life, school youth and children and upwards of 160,000 overseas Koreans and foreigners have visited the museum.

DPRK Students Prove Successful at World Students' Chinese Contest

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- Ri Un Gyong and Pak Chun Gyong, students of Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies, won the gold and bronze medals at the 6th World Students' Chinese Contest held in Changchun City, Jilin Province, China, from August 4 to 6.

Ri Un Gyong advanced to the finals by setting excellent records in the semi-finals and showed her distinguished talent in every category including the art of speaking Chinese, which indicated all-round linguistic standard and ability of expression.
Pak Chun Gyong who also competed in the finals showed her multifarious knowledge of different fields such as history and culture.

U.S. Chiefly to Blame for Posing Nuclear Threat and Proliferating Nukes

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- The United States is chiefly to blame for posing a nuclear threat to the world and proliferating nukes there, sparking a nuclear arms race and increasing the danger of a nuclear war. It is, therefore, brigandish sophism and preposterous assertion for the U.S. to talk about someone's "nuclear threat" and "nuclear proliferation."
Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed commentary.
Recalling that the U.S. development of new type nukes is touching off great concern and protest of the international community and the tendency of opposing this is growing stronger inside Congress and other political circles, thus becoming the focus of public attention, the commentary goes on:
Nevertheless, the U.S. administration continues pushing ahead with a plan to develop new type nuclear warheads aimed at the modernization of nuclear weapons and the production of smaller nukes in order to achieve its criminal purpose.
The administration was reported to have requested Congress to earmark 88 million U.S. dollars for the development of new type nuclear warheads, asserting that the capability of nuclear armed forces would markedly shrink within a decade unless its nukes are modernized.
Such move clearly shows the U.S. double-dealing attitude towards the nuclear issue.
The U.S. is so brazen-faced as to label the peaceful nuclear activities of those countries that incur its displeasure "development of nuclear weapons" and take issue with them. It is shutting eyes to the development of nukes of its satellite countries for the mere reason that they are its allies and stepping up the development and manufacture of new type nukes in a bid to update them and make them smaller.
It is using all sorts of flowery words to conceal the criminal nature and danger of its moves. It claims that the above-said plan is aimed at "ensuring the safety" of nuclear weapons.
The true intention of the U.S. is, however, to step up the production of modern and smaller nukes under the pretext of "ensuring the safety" of nuclear weapons in an effort to make an effective use of them in any war like conventional weapons. Herein lie the gravity and danger of the U.S. warlike forces' moves to develop new type nuclear warheads.
The U.S. is to blame for the mounting nuclear threat and the steady increase of nukes in the world.
The U.S. should stop its moves to develop those new type nukes and beef up nuclear forces and dismantle nuclear weapons and nuclear bases in different parts of the world.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Frustrating Imperialists' "Human Rights" Offensive

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in its editorial article calls for resolutely frustrating the imperialists' "human rights" offensive, noting that it is a grave factor of preventing the independent development of each country and nation and threatening the global peace and security.
The imperialists consider the "human rights" offensive as important leverage in carrying out their strategy for world supremacy, the article says, adding that it is, in essence, intended to force other countries and nations to introduce the "model of human rights" of Western style in a bid to Westernize and Americanize the world.
The danger of the offensive lies in that it is used as a lever for openly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries and infringing upon their state sovereignty and a prelude to the war of aggression against other countries, the article notes, and goes on: The above-said offensive is mainly targeted against anti-imperialist independent countries, the revolutionary countries.
The offensive against socialist countries is the most persistent and vicious of the imperialists' reactionary "human rights" rackets.
The imperialists' moves to destroy the politico-ideological unity and the collectivist way of life of the socialist society have reached a phase of dangerous actions.
Their offensive is fierce as it is aimed at defaming and bringing down the socialist state and social system.
The main thrust of their offensive is to slander the leadership function and role of the party.
Thoroughly frustrating the imperialists' "human rights" offensive is the key to winning the victory of the popular masses' cause of independence against imperialism and consolidating and developing the socialist society, the article points out, and continues:
The practical experience of the Korean revolution clearly proves that it is important to firmly defend the country's sovereignty and adhere to the revolutionary principle, the working-class principle in order to smash the imperialists' "human rights" offensive.
It also proves that it is necessary to hold aloft the banner of Songun in order to foil the above-said offensive.
It was entirely thanks to the Songun policy that the DPRK government could take a series of self-defensive measures to protect the country's sovereignty and dignity in the period when there prevailed a touch-and-go situation and greet the dawn of a great prosperous powerful nation after victoriously concluding the "Arduous March," the forced march.
Songun precisely means the life and soul of the Korean people. This is the faith they enshrined while weathering out stern trials.
They will hold higher the banner of Songun in the future, too, and eternally glorify Korean-style socialism where genuine human rights are fully guaranteed.

Seminar of Men of Literature and Arts Held

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- A seminar of men of literature and arts took place at the People's Palace of Culture on August 16 to mark the 40th anniversary of the publication of Kim Jong Il's famous works on firmly establishing the monolithic ideological system of the Workers' Party of Korea in literature and arts.
Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the C.C., the General Federation of the Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea, in his speech said Kim Jong Il clearly indicated tasks and ways for establishing the monolithic ideological system of the Party in literature and arts by publishing works including "On Firmly Establishing the Monolithic Ideological System of the Party in Literature and Arts" four decades ago.
Under the energetic leadership of Kim Jong Il over the last four decades, revolutionary novels and feature films, Sea of Blood-style revolutionary operas, Mountain Shrine-style revolutionary dramas and the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang" have been produced to usher in a previously unknown great heyday of literature and arts in this land in the course of the literary and art revolution, he noted.
Kim Jong, head of the April 15 Writing Group, in his speech said Kim Jong Il formed and wisely guided a creative group for portraying the leader and the novels including the series of the cycle of novels "Immortal History", "Immortal Guidance" and the full-length novel "On the Way of Loyalty" created in those days have displayed enormous significance and vitality in educating the people in the monolithic ideology of the Party.
Ri Hui Chan, director of the Korean Scriptwriting Company, Kim Song Min, vice-director of the Mansudae Art Studio, and Song Sok Hwan, vice-minister of Culture, addressing the seminar, noted that Kim Jong Il paved the way for the revolution of literature and arts through a cinematic revolution for creating movies rich in ideological and artistic value and catering to the aesthetic taste of the times.
Masterpieces of the times have been created and grand monuments splendidly erected to glorify eternally the immortal revolutionary history of President Kim Il Sung and the brilliant revolutionary traditions of the Party, they noted, adding: This is a shining fruition of the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il to establish the monolithic ideological system of the Party in literature and arts.

New Data on Japan's Past Crime of Sexual Slavery Revealed

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- Data disclosing the crime of "comfort women" for the imperial army of Japan are being brought out one after another. They prove that the crime was the most diabolical one against humanity of the 20th century committed in an organized way directly by or under the command of the government and the military of old Japan.
A recent issue of Minju Joson carried the data collected by Dr. Jong Nam Yong, 70, who is a specialist in international law.
According to the data, as the crime was organized by the Japanese military, "comfort stations" for the army were set up in all areas occupied by the Japanese army.
The minutes of the meeting of section chiefs of the Ministry of Army dated September 3, 1942 says that there were 400 stations in all, 100 in the northern part of China, 140 in the central part of China, 40 in the southern part of China, 100 in South Asia, 10 on islands in the Pacific Ocean and 10 in the southern part of Sakhalin.
The Order of the Japanese Ministry of Army No.74 titled "Directive on employee recruitment of comfort station for the army" was worked out by the justice section of the ministry and sealed by Chief of General Staff of the Army Hiroshi Imamura and Director of the Justice Department Mitsurou Umezu on March 4, 1938.
According to the order, the Japanese ministries of Army, Navy and Foreign Affairs held a joint meeting at the Japanese consulate in Nanjing, China on April 16, 1938. At the meeting, they agreed on each unit establishing comfort stations on the spot to suit the actual conditions, recruiting girls in the ages of 17 to 20 under the name of "volunteers' corps" and reducing them to "comfort women".
Even right before the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Ministry of Army issued the "Directive on recruiting prostitutes of comfort stations for the army" to all local units.
Furthermore, the Japanese imperialists concretized the way for delivery of "comfort women" for the imperial army.
The then Japanese government had, at first, connived and encouraged covertly the crime of sexual slavery committed by the military in an organized and systematic way. And then it took a direct part in the sexual slavery and instituted a law on organizing it in a more positive way.
It promulgated the "Policy on enforcement of the system of women's voluntary labor corps (comfort women)" in September 1943 and "Ordinance of women's voluntary labor" on August 23, 1944. The policy and ordinance were signed by the then prime minister, home affairs minister and welfare minister of Japan and were made public as royal order No. 159 after they were signed by the then Japanese King.
Such secret documents and minutes showing the direct participation of the old Japanese government and military in the crime of sexual slavery during the Second World War had been found out and opened to the public one after another in the 1990s in various organs concerned in Japan. This eloquently proves that Japan cannot evade the responsibility for the crime of sexual slavery.

Abe's Mean Behavior under Fire

Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- Abe and his gentry are persistently refusing to redress the crimes committed by Japan in the past, afraid of even admitting them, in defiance of the demand of justice and human conscience. They are human scum little different from the criminals who forced women into sexual servitude for the Imperial Japanese Army.
Minju Joson today observes this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
The day after the passage through the U.S. Congress of a resolution seeking apology from the Japanese government for the sexual servitude for the Imperial Japanese Army, Abe uttered he felt regret at the adoption of the resolution and talked nonsense that the 20th century was the century when the human rights were violated.
The Japanese government was busy with lobbying operations to bar the above-said resolution from being adopted at Congress at any cost and Abe himself blustered he would never apologize for the crimes even in case the resolution was adopted at Congress.
As seen above, the preoccupation of the Abe group is to cover up or play down Japan's crimes by hook or by crook.
How impudent and mean the Abe group is!
Germany, the same defeated nation as Japan, opted for winning back the trust of the international community by honestly admitting its crimes in the past and apologizing and compensating for them. Japan, however, behaved quite contrary to this, touching off the derision of the world people.
No wonder, the international community ridicules Japan as a political dwarf.
Japan's attitude towards its past crimes alone suffices to guess the moral quality and level of its political camp.
Japan's bid to hold a leadership position and play a role as such in the international arena is nothing but a daydream.
Abe group would be well advised to know that it can never do anything as long as it sticks to such political approach towards the issue of Japan's past wrongs.
