Kim Jong Il Gives On-site Guidance to Hamhung Disabled Soldiers' Plastic Daily Necessities Factory

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA)-- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the Hamhung Disabled Soldiers' Plastic Daily Necessities Factory.
    He was accompanied by Hong Song Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK.
    He learned about the production at the factory, going round the several places of the factory including the injection-molded boot shop and the raincoat shop. He gave warm pep talks to disabled soldiers.
    He highly appreciated the patriotic deeds of disabled soldiers and their families, greatly pleased to learn that they are performing feats in implementing the Party's economic policy in the same spirit as displayed during their service in the army.
    He said that the disabled soldiers are the precious core members of the Party as they shed blood in the struggle for the country and the people, underscoring the need to always pay deep attention to their work and living.
    After setting forth tasks to be implemented by the factory, the mother base and centre for the production of vinyl chloride products, in its management and operation, he expressed his expectation and conviction that the officials, workers and technicians of the factory would devote all their wisdom and enthusiasm to the production and thus supply greater quantities of well-designed useful consumer goods to the people.
    He appreciated a performance given by the art group of the South Hamgyong Provincial Art Troupe.
    He warmly congratulated the artistes on their successful performance, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that they presented a splendid performance high in its political standard and the spirit of the times as it gave answers to the social questions arising in the era of Songun.
    He proposed tasks to be carried out by the group in its creative activities.


Kim Jong Il Gives On-site Guidance to Tanchon Mining Machine Plant and Tanchon Smeltery

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-site guidance to the Tanchon Mining Machine Plant and the Tanchon Smeltery.
    The first leg of his guidance was the Tanchon Mining Machine Plant.
    After being briefed on the history of the plant at the room devoted to its history, he went round production processes including the large processing shop to acquaint himself with the technical equipment of the plant and production there.
    He praised the workers of the plant for having provided equipment and accessories to the mines in the area of Tanchon in good time over the last nearly six decades, thus making a great contribution to increasing the mineral production, and manufactured by themselves many machine tools including a 10m turning lathe.
    In order to satisfactorily provide those mines with equipment and accessories as required by the reality in which the production is on the steady increase there, it is necessary to undertake the overall technological updating of the plant in a big way at a lightning tempo, he said, indicating tasks to be implemented by it and ways to do so.
    The next leg of his guidance was the Tanchon Smeltery.
    After visiting the room devoted to the history of the smeltery, he went round the computer control room and various other updated processes to acquaint himself with its technological updating and production there.
    He highly appreciated the efforts made by the workers and builders of the smeltery, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that they have successfully built the ultra-modern smeltery which would win even the admiration of posterity.
    Noting that such signal turn effected at the smeltery as sharply boosting the production through its technological updating proved the principle governing the IT age that science and technology are immediately production and vise-versa, he emphasized that only when the nation's science and technology are closely combined with production, can they serve as a powerful engine propelling the revolution and construction and provide a technological and scientific guarantee for the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
    Noting that the smeltery holds an important position in the nation's economic development, he set forth tasks to be implemented by it.
    He stressed that the most important task facing the smeltery is to steadily keep the production going at a high rate and, at the same time, actively introduce advanced technology to collect all the valuable metals.
    In order to operate in full capacity the smeltery which has markedly increased its production capacity by putting its production processes on a modern and scientific basis, it is necessary for the mines in the area of Tanchon including the Komdok Mine to supply a sufficient quantity of quality concentrated ore to the smeltery.
    He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., WPK.


Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit 1286

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA Unit 1286.
    After acquainting himself with the unit's performance of duty and its servicepersons' training, he expressed satisfaction over the fact that all the commanding officers and soldiers of the unit have performed their combat duties with high vigilance in a responsible manner and grown to be a-match-for-a hundred fighters possessed of high military technique and combat capability by steadily intensifying the training.
    Feasting his eyes on the thick woodland around the unit and seeing the barracks kept neat and tidy even in the rainy season, he highly praised the patriotism displayed by the servicepersons of the unit, saying that they are regarding every tree and every blade of grass of the country as their own lives and taking good care of them and sprucing up their barracks by learning from the lifestyle of the Anti-Japanese Guerilla Army.
    He praised the unit for having sincerely helped the people in the area where it is stationed in land administration and other work.

Greetings to Fidel Castro Ruz

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il together with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, today sent a message of greetings to Fidel Castro Ruz, first secretary of the C.C., the Communist Party, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, on his 81st birthday.
    The message says:

Floral Basket to Kim Jong Il

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a floral basket by the family of Zhang Weihua, an anti-Japanese revolutionary martyr, on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of Korea's liberation.
    Written on the ribbon of the basket were letters reading "We sincerely wish the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il good health."


Kim Jong Il's Work Brought out in Venezuela

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification" was brought out in pamphlet by the Canta Clara Publishing House of Venezuela on August 1.
    In this work, published on August 4, Juche 86 (1997), he dealt with the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung in the cause of national reunification, formulated the three principles of national reunification, the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo clarified by the President as the three charters for national reunification and indicated tasks and ways for achieving the cause of national reunification on the basis of these charters.


GNP Denounced in S. Korea

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Organizations of people from all walks of life in south Korea including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly held a rally in Seoul on August 10 to denounce the Grand National Party of south Korea.
    Speakers at the rally branded the GNP as an anti-reunification political party and a party of political profiteers blinded with the ambition to seize power. They warned that the people would surely mete out a stern judgment to the anti-reunification forces including the GNP standing in the way of peace and reunification, opposed to the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and national independence.
    The letter of protest to the GNP read out at the rally charged that it is only the GNP that is opposed to the reunification though all Koreans are pooling efforts to put an end to the history of national division.
    At the end of the rally, the participants thrust the letter to the "GNP inspection committee ".


Anti-U.S. Rally in S. Korea

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Members of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification, the Vanguard for Independent Reunification of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Kwangju-South Jolla Provincial Federation of University Student Councils under the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils reportedly held an anti-U.S. rally demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. troops in front of the U.S. base in Kunsan, North Jolla Province, on August 10.
    Speakers at the rally noted that the U.S. troops in Kunsan had some time ago usurped land around the U.S. base to build heliports and were now demanding of the south Korean authorities 10 million more phyong of land.
    Pointing out that the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises now projected by the U.S. and south Korean authorities would be staged around the U.S. bases, they said this could not be construed otherwise than an act to disturb peace on the Korean Peninsula.
    This is not a time when we remain shouting for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops only in slogans, they said, calling upon all the people to fight it out to drive the U.S. forces out of south Korea.


Members of AINDF Visit Korean Revolution Museum

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Jo Il Min, chief of the Pyongyang Mission of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front (AINDF), and its members visited the Korean Revolution Museum today on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of Korea's liberation.
    They went round the rooms devoted to the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, being briefed on the fact that President Kim Il Sung led the hard-fought anti-Japanese war to shining victory, accomplishing the historic cause of liberating Korea. They saw photos, relics and materials on display with keen interest.
    At the end of the visit, Jo said that the President was the benefactor of national resurrection as he embarked upon the road of revolution in his early years and made a long journey of bloody battles, thereby wiping out the Japanese imperialists and liberating Korea.


Prizes Awarded to Koryo Celadons

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- The 2007 Northeastern China International Porcelain Fair held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province of China from July 20 to 23 awarded the gold and first prizes to a celadon vase inlaid with the pattern of blue dragon and to a reticulated celadon vase with the pattern of silver crane of the DPRK.
    The fair was attended by more than 700 organizations from 30 odd countries including the DPRK.
    On display on the Korean exhibition stand were some 60 pieces of porcelain of ten-odd kinds including the Koryo celadon with peculiar and varied forms and contents.
    The celadon vases were highly appreciated by visitors for their graceful colors and various decorations.


Huge Damage by Torrential Rain

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- The torrential rain that hit the DPRK from August 7 has persisted, causing huge human and material damage.
    According to the preliminary information available from different parts of the country as of August 12, the torrential rain left hundreds of persons dead or missing and destroyed more than 30,000 houses for over 63,300 families or rendered them inundated.
    It also left tens of thousands of hectares of farmland inundated, buried under silt and washed away. The heavy rain destroyed at least 800 public buildings, over 540 bridges, 70 sections of railroads and at least 1,100 vehicles, pumps and electric motors.
    The torrential rain struck Kangwon Province, claiming huge casualties and completely or partly destroying houses for more than 20,000 families or leaving them inundated.
    The heavy rain that hit North Hwanghae Province all of a sudden destroyed houses for more than 3,400 families, left at least 9,160 houses inundated and more than 13,000 hectares of farmland inundated, buried under silt and washed away.
    In South Hamgyong Province houses for more than 8,000 families were completely destroyed or inundated and over 9,000 hectares of farmland were inundated, buried under silt and washed away.
    The torrential rain also hit South Phyongan Province, causing river and stream dikes to collapse. This left a large area of farmland inundated and washed away and destroyed houses and public buildings, roads and railways.
    Pyongyang and South Hwanghae Province were also hit hard by the torrential rain.
    The material damage so far is estimated to be very big. This unceasing heavy rain destroyed the nation's major railways, roads and bridges, suspended power supply and cut off the communications network.


DPRK Hit by Unceasing Torrential Rain

   Pyongyang, August 13 (KCNA) -- Many parts of the country are hard hit by continuous torrential rain.
    According to the information available from an institution concerned, the rainfall from 0:00 of August 7 to 23:00 of August 12 registered 662mm in Phyonggang County and 422mm in Chonnae County, Kangwon Province and 672mm in Pukchang County, 621mm in Tokchon City, 592mm in Phyongsong City, 570mm in Yangdok County, 529mm in Maengsan County and 452mm in Sunchon City, South Phyongan Province and 592mm in Sinphyong County, 476mm in Sohung County, 467mm in Singye County and 406mm in Suan County, North Hwanghae Province and 399mm in Jongphyong County, 389mm in Kumya County, 336mm in Hamhung City, 309mm in Hongwon County and 304mm in Sinhung County, South Hamgyong Province and over 460mm in Pyongyang.
    Jangyon County and Ryongyon County and various other counties in South Hwanghae Province were struck by torrential rain registering over 60, more than 90mm at maximum per hour.
    As a result, the farm land in those areas was inundated, washed away and buried under silt and dwelling houses, public buildings, production establishments and other objects were completely or partly destroyed.
    This torrential rain also destroyed railways and main roads in the country, suspended power supply and cut off the communications among provinces, cities and counties.
    The damage by the unceasing heavy rain is now on the steady increase.

    Es un gran exito el que haya terminado por la fuerza y tecnologia propia en un corto plazo de tiempo la obra de reconstruccion tan complicada y dificil que requiere un alto nivel de tecnologia, senalo y evaluo de altos los meritos de los funcionarios, obreros y tecnicos del complejo quienes dieron pruebas de gran inteligencia y entusiasmo en sus quehaceres, y de los cientificos, tecnicos y obreros de la Academia Estatal de Ciencias, la filial de Hamhung de la AEC, la Universidad de Industria Quimica de Hamhung, el Complejo de Maquinaria de Ryongsong y otras unidades que les apoyaron con sinceridad.
    La culminacion exitosa de la reconstruccion del proceso de produccion de abonos, que es fruto de la autoconfianza, deviene otra manifestacion del poderio de la ciencia y tecnica del pais en desarrollo vertiginoso, apunto el y agrego que no habra cosa irrealizable cuando se libra de modo audaz y ofensivo la lucha por aplicar los adelantos de la ciencia y tecnica.
    Dadas las condiciones en que se ha reconstruido modernamente el proceso de produccion de abonos, se presentan las tareas de mejorar la administracion tecnica y de instalaciones y elevar el nivel tecnico y de calificacion de los obreros para normalizar en un alto nivel la produccion de abonos, destaco.
    Es muy importante el deber de este complejo en el desarrollo de la agricultura del pais, recalco e indico las tareas que incumben a esta empresa.
    Hay que desarrollar activamente la agricultura para aflojar la tension del problema alimentario que es lo principal en los tres reglones: vestimenta, el alimento y la vivienda. Y hay que producir mas cantidad de fertilizantes para labrar bien la tierra, dijo el Dirigente y apunto que deben encauzar la fuerza a la produccion de abonos guardando siempre en lo profundo de sus corazones la proposicion del Presidente "El fertilizante es precisamente el arroz, y el arroz es justamente el socialismo".
    Para aumentar la produccion y el suministro de abonos eficientes es preciso dar impulso continuo a la reconstruccion tecnica para dotar todos los procesos de produccion de la planta de las instalaciones ultramodernas e intensificar la labor para aplicar los adelantos de la tecnica, indico.
    El complejo debe establecer el sistema de produccion de abonos a base de las materias primas de nuestro pais y desarrollar consecuentemente la investigacion cientifica para reducir el costo de produccion para asi dar mas solidez al caracter Juche de la industria de abonos quimicos, enfatizo.

Kim Jong Il recorre el Templo Jonggwang

   Pyongyang, 13 de agosto (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea y Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, recorrio el Templo Jonggwang, uno de los antiguos patrimonios historico-culturales.
    Esta ermita situada en la comuna de Wonsa del distrito de Riwon de la provincia de Hamgyong del Sur fue edificada a mediados del siglo VII.
    Despues de escuchar las explicaciones sobre el patrimonio historico, el Dirigente recorrio sus partes exterior e interior, inclusive las capillas Taeung y Myongbu y la torre Sari, informandose en detalles del estado de conservacion y cuidado.
    En este lugar estan conservadas en su estado original valiosas reliquias historicas como raras obras pictoricas, que muestran con gran verosimilitud las circunstancias de aquella epoca, asevero.
    Por lo tanto, hay que mostrar a muchas personas esta ermita del valor de patrimonio nacional, recalco.
    En nuestro pais, que tiene una historia de 5 milenios y una cultura brillante, hay muchos valiosos patrimonios historico-culturales, lo cual deviene un orgullo de la nacion coreana, afirmo.
    Subrayo que debido a las brutales maniobras de exterminio nacional y las guerras de agresion de los imperialistas, nuestros vestigios fueron deslucidos, destruidos o deteriorados, pero, recobraron su orgulloso aspecto al ser reconstruidos en la epoca del Partido del Trabajo.
    Resalto la necesidad de librar una dinamica lucha en todos los sectores por mantener correctamente las excelentes herencias culturales nacionales a fin de poner mas digna y orgullosa a la nacion coreana.
    Apunto que hay que prestar especial atencion a la conservacion y cuidado de esos patrimonios, que encarnan la excelente arquitectura y extraordinarios talentos artisticos del pueblo coreano y resultan valiosos tesoros culturales del pais.

Kim Jong Il dirige la Fabrica de Productos de Madera de Hamhung

   Pyongyang, 13 de agosto (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea y Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea, dirigio sobre el terreno la Fabrica de Productos de Madera de Hamhung.
     Primeramente, en la sala de presentacion del historial el Dirigente escucho las explicaciones sobre la historia de la fabrica.
     Recorriendo la casa cultural y otras instalaciones de cultura elogio el hecho de que los trabajadores de esta empresa llevan en lo suficiente una variada vida cultural en ese primer establecimiento bien acondicionado y practican de modo activo los deportes masivos.
     Acto seguido, hizo conocimiento detallado del estado de renovacion tecnologica y de produccion visitando uno por uno los procesos productivos como la sala de manejo por computadora y los equipos de trabajo de aserradura, elaboracion y acabado.
     Senalo que gracias a que los funcionarios, los obreros y los tecnicos de aqui, unidos con la misma voluntad, impulsaron vigorosamente la labor de renovacion tecnologica, esta planta se transformo radicalmente en unos anos y registro un salto en su produccion, evaluo altamente los meritos de ellos y envio un cordial saludo a todos los empleados.
     Ratifico que la tarea fundamental de la marcha general de hoy es acelerar la renovacion tecnologica para la modernizacion de la economia y poner al maximo su capacidad encauzando fuerzas primordiales al mejoramiento pronto de la vida del pueblo y recalco que todas las fabricas y empresas deben impulsar resueltamente esta labor.
     Al indicar que lo mas importante en la produccion de articulos de madera es mejorar su calidad y diversificar sus variedades, presento las tareas que se presentan ante la fabrica.
