He was accompanied by Chief Secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK Hong Song Nam and Secretary Kim Ki Nam and Department Director Pak Nam Gi of the WPK Central Committee.
He first went round the revolutionary museum.
Noting that the complex turned into the nation's dependable big fertilizer producer under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, he said that the undying revolutionary feats of the President would always remain shining in the history of the country.
Then he looked round the newly reconstructed fertilizer production processes to learn about the construction and production there.
Watching the gigantic fertilizer production processes which demonstrate the might of the Juche-based industry, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the complex has successfully built a great structure in the spirit of self-reliance fully meeting the need of the new century.
It is a great success that the complex has completed the difficult and complicated reconstruction project requiring high technology in a brief span of time by its own efforts and technology, he said, highly appreciating the feats performed by the officials, workers and technicians of the complex who have devoted all their wisdom and energies to the project and the scientists, technicians and workers of the State Academy of Sciences, the Hamhung Branch of the academy, Hamhung University of Chemical Engineering, the Ryongsong Machine Complex and other units who helped them in the project with an attitude befitting master.
Noting that the successful completion of the updating of the fertilizer production processes, a product of the spirit of self-reliance, is one more demonstration of the might of the nation's rapidly developing science and technology, he stressed that there is nothing impossible when they strive hard to introduce advanced science and technology in a bold and positive manner.
Now that the fertilizer production processes have been updated, it is necessary, accordingly, to improve the management of equipment and technical control and raise the level of technical skills of the workers and thus keep the fertilizer production going at a high rate, he stressed.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the complex, saying that the complex has a very important duty to fulfill for the purpose of developing the nation's agriculture.
In order to solve the problem of food, a key point in the issue of clothing, food and housing, it is necessary to actively develop agriculture and increase the supply of fertilizers for successful farming, he noted, underscoring the need to focus efforts on the fertilizer production, always bearing in mind the President's proposition that "Fertilizer immediately means rice and rice, socialism."
He pointed out that in order to boost the production and supply of efficacious fertilizers it is necessary to keep energetically pushing ahead with the technological updating to furnish all the production processes of the complex with latest equipment and intensify the drive to introduce advanced technology.
He underlined the need for the complex to establish a fertilizer production system depending on locally-available raw and other materials and conduct strenuous scientific researches to steadily cut down the production cost for the purpose of strengthening the Juche character of the chemical fertilizer industry.

At the end of his on-site guidance, he together with the innovators who have performed feats in the reconstruction project appreciated a performance given by the employees art group of the complex at the Workers' House of Culture.

Kim Jong Il Visits Jonggwang Temple

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the Jonggwang Temple, an ancient historic and cultural site.
The temple situated in Wonsa-ri, Riwon County, South Hamgyong Province, is one of the ancient structures built in mid-7th century.
He was briefed on the historic relics. He learned in detail about how the temple is preserved and managed, walking round its interior and exterior including Taeung Hall, Myongbu Hall and the Sari Tower.
The Jonggwang Temple is of great value as a national treasure because it keeps in their original state valuable historic relics including precious pictures vividly reflecting the phases of those times, he said, underscoring the need to show it to many people.
Our country has lots of valuable historic and cultural relics as it boasts 5,000 year-long history and brilliant culture, he noted, adding that this is the pride of the Korean nation.
He pointed out that historic and cultural relics in Korea had long remained eclipsed or destroyed due to the imperialists' persistent moves to obliterate the Korean nation and their wars of aggression, but they were restored to their original state to demonstrate their former glory in the era of the Workers' Party of Korea.
He underlined the need for all fields to make energetic endeavors to properly preserve excellent national cultural heritages and imbue the people with greater pride and self-esteem of being members of the Korean nation.
The historic and cultural relics are the nation's precious cultural treasures as they are associated with the superb architecture and outstanding artistic talents of the Korean people, he noted, adding that it is, therefore, necessary to pay special attention to preserving and managing them.

Iranian First Vice-President on Friendly Ties with DPRK

Teheran, August 9 (KCNA) -- The traditional friendly relations between Iran and the DPRK are developing under the deep care of the leaders of the two countries. The Iranian people remember the Korean people who sincerely helped them in the hard period after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Iranian First Vice-President Parviz Davudi said this Thursday when meeting and having a talk with the government economic delegation of the DPRK led by Minister of Foreign Trade Rim Kyong Man on a visit to Iran.
The Iranian government attaches great importance to boosting the friendly ties based on justice with such anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. and revolutionary countries as the DPRK, he noted, adding that Iran hopes that the cooperation in various fields including economy would further expand and develop in the future, too, to be commensurate with a high level of political relations that exist between the two countries.

Japanese Imperialists' Plunder of Land of Korea Assailed

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Japanese imperialists fabricated the heinous "land survey act" on August 13, 1912 after illegally occupying Korea. By this act, they robbed the Koreans of their vast area of land and forests including tideland and cultivated land and legally protected landownership of feudal landlords and used it as a foundation for enforcing their colonial rule over Korea.
A spokesman for the History Society of the DPRK said this in a statement issued Sunday, 95 years since the fabrication of the "act."
    It went on:
They looted as many as more than one million hectares of land by force of the above-said "act." As a result, a great many Korean peasants were deprived of land, a means of living handed down to them by their ancestors, and reduced to colonial slaves.
While deriving Koreans of land in such brutal manner, the Japanese imperialists robbed Korea of its natural resources lock, stock and barrel during their colonial rule. They even committed such unprecedented atrocities as depriving Koreans of their spoken and written languages and their own names.
Nevertheless, Japan has refused to repent of the past crimes it committed against the Korean nation though more than six decades have passed since its defeat. Worse still, it is becoming more desperate in its confrontation with the DPRK, while whitewashing its crimes.
Japan's moves to revive militarism, racket of confrontation with the DPRK, actions to grab Tok Islet and campaign to destroy the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) are reminiscent of the Japanese imperialists' robber-like aggression of Korea before a century and their brutal actions to exterminate the people of Korea, their colony.
The Koreans will never pardon the hideous crimes committed against the Koreans by Japan, their sworn enemy, and its moves to exterminate the Korean nation in this century but force it to pay for them a thousand times.
It should make an immediate apology and compensation for those crimes and stop at once the suppression of Chongryon.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Suk's Revolutionary Activities in Rangrim Area Marked

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The 70th anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk's revolutionary activities in Rangrim area of Jagang Province was marked in the DPRK.
Kim Jong Suk went to the Rangrim area and conducted energetic revolutionary activities in August, Juche 26 (1937) in order to carry out the strategic policy of President Kim Il Sung which called for dynamically conducting the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle centered on the armed struggle on a nation-wide scale.
She guided a meeting of heads of small units and groups of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) and underground revolutionary organizations there at which she gave instructions on firmly building secret camps in different areas along the Rangrim range, revolutionizing the people in the surrounding areas, rallying workers in the region as an organized force, steadily reinforcing the ranks of KPRA small units and intensifying the assistance to the KPRA.
Meanwhile, she conducted the political work among mountain-side tillers and taught evening schoolers how to sing the "song of ten verses." She also met women and told them that if women went united and came out in the fight to regain the sovereignty of the country they could liberate the country as early as possible, adding that to this end it was necessary to form organizations and get united around them.
When meeting workers, she told them stories about Kim Il Sung, the legendary hero, arousing deep reverence for him among them, and called on them to single-mindedly fight against the Japanese imperialists.
Thanks to her energetic activities, several secret bases were firmly built in the area of Mt. Rangrim to provide small units of the KPRA with centers where they could come in touch with members of the underground revolutionary organizations and pave the way for expanding and strengthening the anti-Japanese revolutionary organizations to contribute to all-people resistance.
A Jagang provincial meeting was held in the Rangrim County on August 11 to mark the anniversary.

Rodong Sinmun on Songun Politics

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- Songun politics serves as an invincible treasured sword for beating back the imperialists' aggression and war moves and demonstrating the dignity and honor of the Korean nation to the world and provides a sure guarantee for independent reunification and prosperity of the nation, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.
    It goes on:
Songun politics serves as a banner of patriotism as it implants the consciousness of national independence, self-respect and national pride and honor into the minds of all Koreans and powerfully arouses them to the movement for independent reunification.
It is thanks to the invincible Songun politics pursued by le Kim Jong Il that the DPRK has demonstrated the dignity and might of the nation, standing in confrontation with the U.S. imperialists styling themselves "the world's only super power," and firmly defended the peace of the country and security of the nation.
It also serves as a treasured sword of patriotism as it unites all Koreans in the idea of "By our nation itself" irrespective of ideology, system, political view, religious belief, class and stratum to work for national reunification and prosperity.
It promotes the interests of the whole nation and firmly guarantees the destiny and future of all Koreans.
The patriotic nature of Songun politics finds a vivid manifestation in the fact that the historic Pyongyang meeting and the publication of the Juche 15 joint declaration put an end to the era of distrust and confrontation which lasted for over half a century and ushered in the era of independent reunification in which Koreans are advancing in the idea of "By our nation itself."
It is reality today that even those who were once hostile to the fellow countrymen in the north are coming out to defend Songun after keenly realizing its patriotic nature and great vitality.
The June 15 era of reunification is shining and the country has a bright prospect for prosperity thanks to the patriotic Songun politics as it helps check and frustrate outsiders' domination and interference in the Korean nation's issue of reunification and their persistent obstructions and firmly ensures the orbit of building a reunified country with arms of justice.

Imperialists' Policy of Strength Bound to Go Bust

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The imperialists are working hard to realize their wild ambition for domination, but their policy of strength is bound to go bust.
Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
It is inevitable for the policy of strength being pursued by the imperialists to meet frustration as it diametrically runs counter to the principles of independence and equality, etc. publicly recognized in the international relations.
All countries and nations are equal members of the international community.
The United States is not a special country as it claims.
It is the common desire of humankind to carve out their destiny independently as the master of the world and it is also the demand of the present times to build an independent new world free from all sorts of domination and subjugation. Gone are days never to return when the Western powers could decide on the destiny of humankind and international issues while perpetrating such arbitrary practices as dominating, subjugating, threatening, blackmailing and pressurizing other countries in the international arena.
The war moves of the U.S. imperialists against peace are touching off strong protest and denunciation among people in different parts of the world.
Afghanistan and Iraq which the U.S. occupied by force of arms have turned into pitfalls of death for the U.S. troops. The U.S. neo-cons who arrogantly vociferated about "strength is almighty" are now being ousted from power. The U.S. ruling quarters who had asserted "victory" in Iraq have grown impatient, uneasy and frustrated.
The imperialists' failure of the policy of strength has become a stark reality in Korea.
History shows that all those keen to swallow up other countries went to ruin.
The imperialists would be well advised to properly understand history and drop their anachronistic ambition to dominate the world by force of power.

Japanese Authorities' Suppression of Chongryon under Fire in Sri Lanka

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Sri Lanka-People's Korea Friendship Association in a statement on Aug. 6 vehemently assailed the Abe group's frantic suppression of Koreans in Japan.
This is a wanton violation of the universally accepted norms of international law related to each country's treatment of the foreigners permanently residing there, it noted, warning:
If the Japanese authorities aggravate the situation, not halting the crackdown upon the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, the organization will voice stronger international solidarity for an immediate stop to it.

Cancellation of Plan for "Ulji Focus Lens" Joint Military Exercises Demanded

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity of Youths and Students for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration of south Korea reportedly made public a statement titled "Cancellation of the plan for war exercises 'Ulji Focus Lens' obstructive to reunification" on August 8.
Accusing the south Korean authorities of planning to stage at any cost the joint military exercises under the simulated conditions of "emergency in the north" together with the U.S. defying the desire of the nation for reunification, the statement branded the joint military exercises as dangerous moves for a war of aggression against the north.
The U.S. is talking about "dialogue" and "negotiations" with the north, but it is, in actuality, pursuing a design to launch a war on the Korean Peninsula, the statement noted, demanding the south Korean authorities immediately roll back the above-said plan and the U.S. withdraw its troops from south Korea at once.

Speakers at the press conference condemned the authorities for their unwarranted action to impose penalties on them at any cost.
Noting that the participants in the struggle for checking the conclusion of FTA are not targets of suppression, they urged the authorities to cancel the plan to stage the trial of the co-representatives internationally recognized as prisoners of conscience and immediately release them.

They praised the army and the people of the DPRK for shattering the myth of the "mightiness" of the U.S. imperialists and forcing them to go downhill for the first time in history by displaying the unrivalled self-sacrificing spirit and popular heroism in the last Fatherland Liberation War under the wise commandership of President Kim Il Sung.
Referring to the fact that the Korean people have firmly defended the sovereignty of the country and the national dignity from the moves of the U.S. to start a new war and its hostile policy under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, they reiterated the determination to positively support the just cause of the Korean people.
A statement adopted at the function said they would form organizations affiliated to the solidarity committee for peace and reunification in the Korean Peninsula at factories, villages and areas and expand them so that more people might know better about the reality of the DPRK and follow the way the Korean people are waging the anti-imperialist struggle.

Results of Survey of Site of Civilian Massacre Made Public in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean committee for settling the past history for truth and reconciliation on August 8 made public the results of the survey of the area in Chongwon, North Chungchong Province where dead bodies were buried in the course of probing the truth behind the massacre of those related to the "Association of the Protected", according to the south Korean Internet newspaper "Chammallo".
The survey was reportedly conducted from early in July on the basis of the testimonies made by the North Chungchong Provincial Measure Committee for Probing the Truth behind Civilian Massacre before and after the Korean war and bereaved families of the victims that hundreds of members of the association were killed by police early in July of 1950.
The committee clarified that remains of the dead were found piled up in two or three tiers in the area and empty cartridges used in the massacre were collected from there.
Noting that remains of more than 70 slain civilians have been found so far, the committee held that the results of the above-said survey suggested civilians were massacred on the spot at that time. The police seemed to force the civilians to bend their knees in rows their backs facing it before shooting them to death, it added.

New Books Published

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Dozens of kinds of new books were published by the Kum Song Youth Publishing House this year on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Korean Young Communist League which will fall on August 28.
In the first six months of the year alone, it brought out many books including those dealing with the immortal revolutionary exploits performed by the illustrious great persons of Mt. Paektu and their noble traits and others dealing with the originality, validity and vitality of the Songun revolutionary idea and leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.
It has registered successes in its activities by directing great efforts to publishing literary and art books that suit the emotion and psychological peculiarities of youth and children.
An illustrated book "Winged Horse" based on the stories told by President Kim Il Sung is popular among students and children.
Among the illustrated books avidly read by them are sequels of illustrated books "Two Boys from a Walled City" dealing with struggle of members of the anti-Japanese Children's Corps and a sequel of "Tales about Famous Persons in Korean History," and a sequel of the children's book "Story about Study of Science."

95th Anti-U.S. Solidarity Meeting Held

It was attended by members of civic and public organizations including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and the vanguard for independent reunification of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.
Noting that the south Korean civilian hostage crisis in Afghanistan is an inevitable outcome of the aggressive south Korea-U.S. "alliance," the speakers demanded the authorities withdraw at once all the troops dispatched to battle fields of the U.S. war of aggression.
The protest letter to the U.S. president read out at the meeting urged the U.S. to make positive efforts for the release of the south Korean hostages, noting that but for the U.S. illegal invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and the south Korean authorities' troop dispatch, an act of yielding to the U.S. demand, the above-said civilian hostage taking would not have occurred.
Saying that the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises would be drills for a preemptive attack on the north to be staged in accordance with the U.S. doctrine of war of aggression from A to Z, it demanded the immediate cancellation of the plan for war exercises.

Japan's Shameless Moves to Deny Its Past Crimes under Fire

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a by-lined article condemns the Japanese reactionaries for leaving no stone unturned to deny Japan's crime-woven history and evade their responsibility for it.
    It goes on:
Japanese ultra-right conservatives conveyed a written protest to the U.S. embassy in Tokyo demanding the withdrawal of the resolution adopted by the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee urging the Japanese government to make an official apology for forcing women into sexual servitude for the Imperial Japanese Army. Their action is a base one intended to deny Japan's aggression and keep it buried into oblivion in history.
Japan's moves to deny and falsify the historical facts are an intolerable challenge to justice and human conscience.
The Japanese reactionaries' claim that Japan had never forced women into sexual slavery is a sheer lie and an artifice to shirk the responsibility for the crime.
What is more intolerable is that the Japanese reactionaries are working hard to use the voices demanding Japan make an apology and compensation for the crimes ringing out louder from among the Korean people and other Asians as a good opportunity to stoke bitterness towards the DPRK among Japanese.
The Japanese reactionaries are persistently raising the issue of abduction which had already found a solution, while keeping mum about the issue of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army. They are driving the DPRK-Japan hostile ties to an extreme pitch of tension, insisting that it is impossible to improve the bilateral relations without resolving the abduction issue.
The on-going fascist crackdown upon the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan is a deliberate and premeditated political provocation aimed at showdown with the DPRK in all aspects.
The Japanese reactionaries' outrageous suppression of Chongryon only adds to the crimes perpetrated by Japan against the Korean people.
The Japanese reactionaries are talking about "anger" and the like over the world's mounting protest and condemnation of the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army. This is little short of calling on the Japanese to more vigorously wield militarist swords in the samurai spirit, remaining undeterred by the just voices of the world.
The present times are the era of independence against imperialism, and peace. The rash acts of the Japanese reactionaries will lead Japan to isolation and self-destruction only.

Secret Camp on Mt. Kanbaek

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Lots of working people of all strata and school youth and children of the DPRK are visiting a historical place of the secret camp in Mt. Kanbaek on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the national liberation from the Japanese colonial rule (August 15).
The secret camp was set up by President Kim Il Sung in summer of Juche 27 (1938).
It is located in a broad basin in the forest of Mt. Kanbaek between Mts. Paektu and Sobaek. It has favorable natural and geographical conditions for the stationing of a large unit.
The camp served as a base for the training of core elements for an all-people resistance and as an assembly area of units for the final battles with the Japanese imperialist during the national liberation operations.
The President came to the camp in September 1938, June 1941 and several other occasions where he put forward the strategic and tactical policies for expanding the anti-Japanese armed struggle into the homeland and accelerating the historic cause of national liberation and wisely led the efforts to implement them.
There is a monument to the President's proposition in the camp.
Preserved there are the headquarters' log cabin where the President guided the work with the small groups of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, groups of political underground workers and underground revolutionary organizations active in the northern areas of Korea and the work of training core elements for the all-people resistance, and the house for guards near the cabin.
Sites of barrack, cooking, campfire, hospital, military drill ground and others are seen in the camp.
Kept there are trees bearing such revolutionary slogans as "General star of Mt. Paektu shines all over the three thousand-ri land of Korea" and "Twenty million fellow-countrymen, let us turn out to liberate the country and build an independent sovereign state under the Sun!" and other revolutionary relics and remains.
