Papers Call for Turning out in Election as One for Stronger Revolutionary Power

Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- The nation goes to polls today to elect deputies to the provincial (municipality directly under central authority), city (district) and county people's assemblies of the DPRK.
Papers today dedicate editorials to the Election Day.
Rodong Sinmun says the election of deputies to the local power bodies today is of great significance in reinforcing the people's power bodies, enhancing their functions and role in every way and bringing about fresh victory and change in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation as required by the revolutionary development at a new phase.
    It goes on:
President Kim Il Sung laid down the Juche-oriented line of building revolutionary power in his early years and provided the historical roots of the people's government in the crucible of the anti-Japanese struggle. On this basis he founded a genuine people's government in the liberated country, setting an example of the times in solving the issue of power.
The history of the development of the people's power in the DPRK is associated with the energetic leadership of Kim Jong Il who has successfully carried forward the idea of building the Juche-oriented power and the exploits of the President.
Kim Jong Il has wisely led the work of the people's power of the DPRK, ensuring that it steadily enhanced its function and role as the representative of sovereign rights of the popular masses, organizer of creative ability and activities and the master responsible for people's living as required by the cause of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea. He made sure that the Socialist Constitution was revised and supplemented to be the Kim Il Sung Constitution, thereby rounding off the state machinery in the DPRK as required by the era of Songun. This constitutes an immortal historical exploit performed by Kim Jong Il for accomplishing the cause of Juche and achieving the prosperity of the country.
The election today marks an important occasion in fully demonstrating the might of single-minded unity of all the people around Kim Jong Il and their steadfast faith and will to firmly defend and glorify man-centered Korean socialism to the last.
The Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il provides a sure guarantee for victory in strengthening the people's power and building a great prosperous powerful nation. All the people should successfully ensure the election and thus fully demonstrate before the world their strong faith and ardent enthusiasm to uphold the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il.
Minju Joson calls upon the people to take part in the election with the high awareness as citizens in order to reinforce the revolutionary power of the DPRK as firm as a rock.

Japan's Wrong View on History Assailed

Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- It is foolish of Japan to calculate that its moves to distort history and cover up its past crimes would help it evade its responsibility for them.
Minju Joson Sunday says this in a signed commentary denouncing the wrong stand of the Japanese government on the issue of history.
Referring to the fact that the Japanese government is now challenging the people at home and abroad unanimously demanding the settlement of Japan's past crimes as evidenced by its total denial of the past crimes and its desperate efforts to evade the responsibility for them, the commentary notes:
The Japanese reactionaries are very much afraid that the crime-woven history of Japan may be known to the younger generation because it is as clear as noonday that in case the hideous criminal nature and brutal nature of the Japanese militarists are known to posterity as they are, their reactionary policy aimed at the militarization of Japan is bound to meet protest and denunciation at home and abroad.
No just development of the international community is thinkable as long as the issue of the past crimes of Japan remains unsettled. This is the very reason why the international community so sensitively reacts to the moves of Japan to distort history and cover up its past crimes.
There is a growing tendency to take issue with Japan's past crimes even in the United States. This fact clearly proves that the international community considers this as a serious political matter at present. With nothing can Japan cover up its past crimes or evade its responsibility for them just as the sun can never be eclipsed by palms.

Hypocritical and Unpopular Nature of Election System under Capitalism under Fire

Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- The "freedom" and "democracy" advocated by the imperialists and their mouthpieces are unpopular freedom and democracy as they protect the interests of a handful of exploiting classes only and infringe upon the rights and interests of the overwhelming majority of the toiling masses. This is well illustrated by the hypocritical and unpopular nature of the election system under capitalism. Rodong Sinmun Sunday observes this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
Election in the capitalist society is unthinkable without money. During the presidential election in 1860 Presidential Candidate Lincoln spent 100,000 dollars, a big amount of money in those days, and during the presidential election campaign in 1952 Eisenhower and his rival were known to have spent a total of 11 million dollars, stunning people. During the presidential election in 1972 two decades later the election funds spent by the Republican and Democratic Parties surpassed one hundred million dollars. The amount of the money spent during the presidential election in 2000 reached 2.5-3 billion dollars, even according to the information released by American media.
The same is the case with Japan.
During a House of Representatives election in Japan candidates each spent the same amount of money as what an ordinary worker had to save for a hundred years without using even a single penny for food and clothes, taking the public by surprise. What was more surprising was that there was rumor that a candidate required 500 million yen to win the election. It is, therefore, something unimaginable for an ordinary worker to be a Dietman in Japan.
The election system under capitalism imposes a lot of restrictions upon the electorate, excluding broad strata of toiling masses from the election, the article notes, and continues:
According to the "election law" in the U.S., a citizen of 18 and above has the right to elect and in case of the Senate a citizen of 30 and above has the right to be elected to it and a citizen of 25 and above has the right to be elected to the House of Representatives. It is said that men and women citizens of 35 and above who have lived for more than 14 years since their birth in the U.S. are eligible to run for presidency. It is stipulated by the "election law" in the U.S. that one has suffrage only when one meets more than 60 conditions including property status, education, period of residence, occupation, race and nationality.
Tens of millions of people are excluded from the election due to various kinds of restrictions including lack of property.
Noting that the election under capitalism is characterized by fraudulence and corruption, the article stresses: All facts go to prove that "equality for all," "freedom" and "democracy" much touted by the imperialists and their mouthpieces are nothing but hypocritical slogans for pulling the wool over the eyes of the toiling masses and covering up the unpopular nature of the capitalist system.

Songun Politics Praised

Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front (AINDF) Friday issued a statement on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War, according to Internet homepage Kuguk Jonson.
The July 27 victory of the war was a great event to be specially recorded in the history of the Korean nation's anti-U.S. struggle and the realization of the cause of global independence against imperialism as it was a precious fruition of the Juche-based military idea, strategy and tactics and outstanding commanding art of President Kim Il Sung, the statement said.
Noting that the undying feats the President performed by winning the victory in the war are being successfully carried forward and glorified by Kim Jong Il, the peerlessly brilliant commander of Songun, it went on:
Kim Jong Il's Songun politics provides the Korean people with a sure guarantee for achieving a final victory in the confrontation with the U.S. and bringing earlier the day of the accomplishment of the historic cause of independent reunification.
People from all walks of life should actively support, defend and uphold the patriotic Songun politics, bearing deep in mind that the sovereignty and dignity of the nation are ensured and peace and reunification of the country achieved only when they remain true to the Songun politics.

Present there were figures of civic and public organizations and families of victims of the NSL.
Read out there were letters sent to their families by those still detained by the force of this evil law or those still wanted by the police.
The letters said that being an evil law which may incriminate anyone, the NSL has so far brought sufferings to many people and driven them even to death. The letters demanded that the NSL be repealed at an early date in the era when peace and reunification have become a trend of the times.
Families of victims in their speeches held that those to be detained by the force of laws are the politicians opposed to the reunification. The "government" should reinstate the democratic figures, detainees and those on want list who are victims of the evil law, though belatedly, they urged.

Japanese Imperialists' Evil Law under Fire

Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- The Japanese imperialists promulgated the "security law" as "Law" No. 2 under the signboard of "preserving security and order" on July 27, 1907, 100 years ago. It was a fascist law which called for harshly suppressing assembly, association and demonstration and all other activities of Koreans and patriotic people and organizations any time when the Japanese imperialists deem courting their displeasure. Rodong Sinmun Saturday says this in a signed commentary.
It goes on: The "security law" made itself infamous as a lever for cruelly suppressing and stamping out the anti-Japanese actions of the Korean people and forcibly dissolving the patriotic anti-Japanese organizations.
The Japanese imperialists cooked up all sorts of fascist laws such as "the Maintenance of the Public Order Act" besides the "security law" and brutally suppressed the Korean people, blustering that "Koreans should obey the Japanese law or die."
Japan should kneel down and make an apology before the Koreans and adequately pay for the crimes committed against them as it enforced the harshest colonial rule over their country in the past after illegally occupying it.
The cunning and cruel Japanese reactionaries, however, are recklessly challenging the just demand of human conscience, denying their crime-woven past.
They are going mad with their campaign to suppress the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan as part of their moves to bring their hostile policy towards the DPRK to an extreme phase. They went lengths of openly designating Tok Islet as part of the Japanese territory in the 2007 "Defense White Paper." All these facts go to prove that their hysteria for reinvasion has reached a very serious phase.
The Korean nation will never forget the crimes perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists in the past no matter how much water may flow under the bridge but surely force Japan to pay for its crime-woven history.

Abe Group's Suppression of Koreans in Japan Accused

Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- The Korean Jurists Committee, the Korean Bar Association, the Korean Democratic Lawyers Association and the Korean Jurists Institute Saturday issued a joint statement in connection with the fact that prevailing in Japan today is a terror-ridden atmosphere reminiscent of the campaign of hunting Koreans during the Kanto great quake.
    It said:
The Abe group's suppression of Koreans in Japan is a violation of the universally accepted provisions of international law which call on each country to provide the same legal protection to all foreigners permanently residing in it and guarantee them the same civil rights as its own citizens.
The human rights abuses being committed by the Japanese authorities against the Koreans in Japan are nothing but a challenge to the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" and major international human rights conventions which call for respecting the rights and fundamental freedom of all people and banning all forms of racial discriminations irrespective of race, sex, language and religious belief.
The legal action taken by the Japanese authorities against the premises and land of the headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) is a breach of the universally accepted principle of international law which calls upon each country for granting foreigners the same civil rights and according the same treatment to them as to its own people at a trial.
Their suppression of Koreans in Japan is not only a crime against humanity whose perpetrator should own criminal responsibility for "racial discrimination" as stipulated in Article 7 of the Statute of the International Criminal Court but a violation of the Declaration on Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism which calls for considering it as an attempt to create a politically motivated terror-ridden atmosphere against a certain group.
The Abe group is hell-bent on suppressing Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, not away from the ultra-nationalist and national chauvinistic habit inherited from its ancestors. They should be aware of the fact that they are following in the footsteps of the war criminals who had met judgment of history and been executed at the Tokyo Military Tribunal for Far East for the aggression and human rights abuses committed by Japan during World War II.
It is a perfidy to the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration that the group is evading its responsibility to compensate for Japan's past crimes and protect the Koreans in Japan.
If the Japanese authorities do not immediately stop such suppression of Chongryon, they will face strong legal counter-measures under international law concerning state responsibility and diplomatic protection.
The Abe group will never be able to evade the legal responsibility for all the consequences to be entailed by the suppression of the Korean nationals in Japan and the moves to destroy Chongryon.
