Pak Yong Sok Passes Away

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- Pak Yong Sok, member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK and chairman of the Control Commission of the WPK Central Committee, died of prostate gland cancer on March 17, Juche 96 (2007), at the age of 80.

Participants in the film shows watched "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il Gives On-the-Spot Guidance to Work in Different Fields", "Mangyongdae", "Kimilsungia" and other Korean films.

Displayed at the venues of the events were photos showing the Songun leadership feats of Kim Jong Il.
Mohammad Aslam Nagi, secretary general of the Lahore Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, said that the DPRK could demonstrate its might despite the grim ordeals. This is entirely the shining fruition of the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, he added.
Mohammad Aslam Malik, secretary general of the Pakistan Trade Union Federation, stressed that thanks to the Songun policy pursued by Kim Jong Il the DPRK has always won in the confrontation with the U.S. styling itself the "only superpower" of the world.
A secretary of the Pakistan Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification noted that Kim Jong Il's Songun policy is enjoying full support and sympathy from the world peace-loving people opposing the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the U.S.-led imperialists at present.

Struggle for Independence against U.S. and GNP Called for

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front on Saturday issued a statement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the arson of the "American Cultural Service" in Pusan, according to the Internet site Kuguk Jonson.
The arson by youth and students on March 18, 1982, was an eruption of grudge and resentment at the Yankee aggressors who manipulated behind the scene the operation to put down the heroic Kwangju popular uprising by force of arms, and it was a just patriotic struggle which demonstrated the indomitable will not to allow the U.S. colonial rule any longer, the statement said, and went on:
The U.S. is making desperate efforts to arrest the movement of the south Korean people for independent reunification against the U.S., calm down the atmosphere for progressive reforms and tide over the crisis of the colonial rule by setting up a pro-U.S. "government" at any cost through the "presidential election" this year.
If the "Grand National Party's" scheme to grab power is not checked in the "election," the dark era of the military fascist dictatorship will be repeated in this land, a second Kwangju bloodbath witnessed and the June 15 era will be disappeared and the whole nation suffer calamities of a nuclear war.
All the people should put an end to the U.S. colonial domination and intervention and wage a more dynamic struggle against the moves for a war against the north, holding higher the banner of the struggle for independence against the U.S.
For the present they should intensify the struggle to get the U.S. troops withdrawn from south Korea, including the protests against the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek being staged across south Korea and decisively develop the massive struggle against the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement" into the anti-U.S. struggle.
The forces for progressive reforms, the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration should realize a big alliance against the conservative forces as soon as possible to deal a telling blow at the scheme of the GNP traitors to seize power again.

Brisk Action for Understanding Songun Policy in S. Korea Called for

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity of Youth and Students for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration (June 15 Youth and Student Solidarity) in south Korea reportedly sponsored a meeting on the theme "2nd-term youth school of June 15 Youth and Student Solidarity 'June 15 youth hero'" on Feb. 24 and 25.
A lecture was given and speeches were made at the meeting on the present reality of the work for correctly understanding the north and its Songun policy and tasks to be carried out in doing so.
The lecturer and speakers said that last year's lecture and grand seminar on the Songun policy convinced them that the popular masses had a great interest in understanding the Songun policy.
They stressed the need to intensify lecture, seminar and information activities among the people so that they can have a proper understanding of the north and the Songun policy.
Meanwhile, a question-and-answer meeting for correctly understanding the Songun policy was held.

The ceremony was followed by a match between the DPRK and Italian teams.
Present at the ceremony were Mun Jae Dok, chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, and others.

Struggle against Conclusion of FTA Called for

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils reportedly released a special resolution titled "Let us check the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement, the U.S. brigandish colonial strategy" on March 10.
Recalling that the negotiations for the conclusion of the FTA are now going at the final stage, the special resolution accused the U.S. of pressurizing the south Korean "government" to strike the FTA as required by it.
It is the U.S. intention to establish a colonial system throughout this land through the conclusion of the FTA, the resolution said.
If such shackling agreement is allowed to be concluded, all fabrics of society on this land including moviedom, education and medical care, to say nothing of the economy, will be swallowed up by the U.S. capitalists, it stressed.
Holding that they can never accept the U.S. brigandish demand, the resolution asserted that the people from all walks of life should turn out in the struggle to check the conclusion of the FTA.

U.S. Nuclear Hysteria Going against Dialogue and Peace Assailed

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- "RSOI" and "Foal Eagle" joint military exercises projected by the U.S. to stage in south Korea are a preliminary war, a nuclear test war, designed to make a surprise preemptive attack on the DPRK, and they are the criminal behavior going against the aspiration and demand of the people for peace.
Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The projected war drills of the U.S. forces are the revelation of the anachronistic way of thinking of the U.S., who seeks to achieve its sinister goal by imposing its will upon the DPRK by force.
The U.S. war gambles in south Korea are remnants of the Cold War era as they are reckless nuclear war games swimming against the trend of the times and peace. With such remnants left intact, it is impossible to ensure peace and security in Asia, including the Korean Peninsula, and the rest of the world.
The war gambles are an unpardonable crime against peace and reunification as they chill the burning desire of the Korean nation for reunification and block inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation.
They also go against the six-party talks.
The U.S. ruling quarters' moves to intensify war games in south Korea are aimed to poison the atmosphere of the talks and drive the situation of the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war. Their real intention is to while away the time with the six-party talks and ignite a war against the DPRK when a chance is given.
The war drills in and around south Korea are contrary to the spirit and mission of the NPT.
It would be an anachronistic daydream if the U.S. calculates that it can overpower the army and people of the DPRK and bring them into submission by military pressure or force.
The DPRK is ready for both war and talks. It is the spirit and independent countermeasure of Songun Korea to answer the strength with strength and provocation with annihilating and merciless strike.
The "RSOI" and "Foal Eagle" are war actions bringing no good but only harm.
The U.S. is well advised to clearly see the trend of the times toward independence and peace and give up its adventurous attempt for preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK.

S. Korean Conservative Media's Hindrance of North-South Cooperation under Fire

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- Choongang Ilbo of south Korea recently put it that the south Korean authorities' decision to provide funds for purchase of facilities needed for video meetings of separated families and relatives under an agreement reached at the inter-Korean ministerial talks is a violation of the principle of not making aid in cash and undertakings for the north-south cooperation are, in fact, a unilateral "aid" to the north.
Minju Joson Sunday in a commentary dismisses such false report as a last-ditch effort of those keen to hinder the north-south cooperation at any cost.
People are shocked by south Korea's ultra-right conservative media's repeat of the "Grand National Party" clan's wrong assertion that it is needed to abide by the U.S. rules on export control, the news analyst says, and goes on:
What is serious is that south Korea's conservative media have slung mud at their fellow countrymen in the north not only over the north-south cooperation undertakings but also over the "nuclear issue" and the "human rights issue".
Chosun Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Choongang Ilbo and Hankuk Ilbo, that has long earned an ill fame as a mouthpiece of the GNP and its predecessors, are all pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative media.
These hack papers have worked hard to tarnish the independent dignity of the DPRK and implant the anti-north confrontation and hatred in south Korean society, raising a hue and cry over the "human rights issue" and the "nuclear issue" in conspiracy with the U.S. hard-line conservatives and the GNP clan.
Such ultra-right conservative media, forsaken and marginalized by the nation, are still making an issue of the north-south cooperation undertakings. This can not be interpreted otherwise than that they intend to keep committing treacheries against reunification.
They should behave themselves, clearly understanding that their hackwork against the nation and reunification will invite nothing but their earlier destruction.

Intensified Struggle against U.S. Called for

Pyongyang, March 18 (KCNA) -- South Korean youth and students' arson of the "American Cultural Service" in Pusan marked a shocking event as it disclosed the U.S. true colors as a chieftain of the Kwangju massacre and offered a fresh occasion in the struggle for independence against the U.S. in south Korea.
Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed commentary Sunday, 25 years since south Korean youth and students set fire to the service.
The desire of the participants in the struggle has not yet come true although 25 years have passed since then, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. military occupation and domination over south Korea still continue.
The U.S. is working hard to collect ultra-right conservatives marginalized by the June 15 era of reunification and establish a pro-U.S. puppet regime again.
The south Koreans' desire and wish for independence can never come true as long as the U.S. domination and interference in the internal affairs of south Korea continue.
The south Korean youth and students and people should fan up the flames of struggle for independence against the U.S., carrying forward the heroic spirit with which the passionate patriotic-minded youth set fire to the stronghold of aggression and domination.
They should resolutely reject the moves of the Grand National Party and other pro-U.S. conservative forces to come to power again under the manipulation of the U.S. and more valiantly turn out in the resistance against the U.S. to put an end to its military occupation and rule.

Gold medals and the championship cup were conferred on the Korean footballers at the awarding ceremony.
The top scoring prize and the prize of best player were awarded to Yun Hyon Hi of the DPRK for the high technique she displayed in the championship.
As a result, the DPRK team has been qualified to participate in the First U-17 Women's World Cup to be held in New Zealand in 2008.

Kim Il Sung's Reminiscences Posted on Internet Homepage of Britain

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy posted on its Internet homepage "My Father and the Korean National Association" from Chapter 1 of Vol. 1 of Part 1 the Anti-Japanese Revolution of "With the Century", reminiscences of President Kim Il Sung, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the formation of the association.
Posted on the homepage was a picture of Kim Hyong Jik, an indomitable revolutionary fighter and outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea, forming the association.

Struggle of WPK and Korean People Supported

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The 11th seminar of world political parties on building a new society took place in Mexico from March 9 to 11.
A joint statement was published there to support the Workers' Party and people of Korea in the struggle to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and achieve independent and peaceful reunification of country.
The statement ardently called on all the world progressive political parties and revolutionary people to join the Korean people in grandly commemorating the 95th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung and the 75th anniversary of the Korean People's Army.
Positively appreciating the access of the WPK and the DPRK government to powerful self-defensive nuclear deterrent to cope with the vicious moves of the United States and its allied forces to stifle them, the statement fully supported the WPK and the Korean people in their struggle to achieve peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and the world.
It also appealed to the progressive political parties and people of all countries to voice full support and solidarity for the Korean people in their struggle to frustrate the separatist moves of the anti-reunification conservative forces including the United States and the Grand National Party of south Korea.
It vehemently condemned the Japanese reactionaries for leaving no means untried to stifle the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), terming it a wanton violation of human rights and international law.
Present there were delegations and delegates of at least 110 political parties and organizations from more than 50 countries of the world including the DPRK, China, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, Brazil and Venezuela and leading members of the Workers' Party of Mexico and its party members.
A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted there.

Letter to Kim Jong Il from Mexican Party Leader

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a letter by Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, coordinator of the National Coordinating Committee of the Workers' Party of Mexico, on March 11 on behalf of the participants in the 11th seminar of world political parties on building a new society.
The letter said that the participants in the seminar highly praised the Workers' Party of Korea and the Korean people for having registered great successes in the struggle to defend socialism despite all the challenges of the imperialists under the great Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il and expressed full support and solidarity for their struggle.
The Songun policy of the DPRK proved that only when the army and the people give priority to the military affairs, united close around the leader, can they firmly defend socialism in the confrontation with the imperialists threatening them with nukes, the letter noted.
The feats of Kim Jong Il who has made a great contribution to accomplishing the global cause of socialism by firmly defending Korean-style socialism with his Songun policy will last forever along with human history, it stressed.

Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from S. Korea Urged

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- It is imperative to put an end to the U.S. policy of domination over Korea and its policy of occupation of south Korea in order to defend peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieve its peaceful reunification.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The Korean Peninsula remains one of the world hot spots where a tense situation always prevails and fraught with the greatest danger of war as the U.S. occupied south Korea and has persistently pursued a policy of aggression against peace, keeping south Korea under its occupation as its base.
The U.S. military bases in south Korea serve the purposes of the U.S. policy towards Korea and its policy of war of aggression against Asia as bridgeheads, advance bases for invading the DPRK and the rest of Asia.
The U.S., considering it a fait accompli to launch the second Korean war, is set to start a new war of aggression with the U.S. military bases in south Korea as bases of sortie, logistic bases.
The U.S. is going to start the largest-ever "Foal Eagle" and "RSOI" joint military exercises soon.
The U.S. is working hard to justify the presence of its forces in south Korea, zealously painting them as a "protector," "champion" that ensures security and protects peace in Northeast Asia. The U.S. schemes to reorganize its forces in south Korea into "regional forces" by equipping them with the weapons of latest type tested in the Iraqi war in a bid to use them as forces for war of aggression against Asia to realize its domination and control over Asia. This is aimed at perpetuating the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea.
All the Koreans should force the U.S. troops, a cancer-like entity, to quit south Korea through nationwide anti-U.S. resistance under the banner of "By our nation itself."

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- Papers Saturday dedicate articles to the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's historic work "On Learning from the Revolutionary Soldier Spirit" published on March 17, Juche 86 (1997).
The revolutionary soldier spirit serves as an invincible treasured sword of Songun Korea, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
This spirit is the starting point from which the Workers' Party of Korea has made the history of overall victories with its Songun politics. The might of the Songun politics is just the might of the revolutionary soldier spirit, and the history of its great victory is annals in which the spirit has been fully embodied.
It is the great spirit of improving a human being in every aspect whereby all the Korean people have been turned to be ardent fighters in the Songun era. It is also the spirit of epoch-making creation and feat and the staunch spirit of defending the country as it helped bring about the dawn of a great prosperous powerful nation in this land, withstanding stern trials, and reliably defend Korean-style socialism in the fierce confrontation with the imperialists.
With the might of this spirit, the Korean people have consolidated the DPRK's political and ideological and military positions as firm as a rock. It is an eternal wealth that makes it possible for our country to display its dignity as an invincible power for all ages.
Kim Jong Il is a man of faith and will, a man with plenty of guts and the supreme incarnation of human love who has got everything by believing and relying on the servicepersons and people. He is also the supreme model of revolutionary optimists with the most steadfast view on the future.
He has clearly showed what idea and faith the revolutionary should keep in mind while leading our army and people to live and struggle in the revolutionary soldier spirit.
He has always overcome any grave hardships standing in the way of revolution with his absolute trust in the servicepersons and people.
"Love the future!" and "Live not merely for today but for tomorrow"-- this is his view on the future. This spirit of optimism helped train soldiers of the Korean People's Army to be indomitable combatants, produce a large army of optimists and make the militant stamina prevail all over the country.
The revolutionary soldier spirit is an ever-victorious banner that our army and people should hold high forever. As an eternal banner of struggle and victory for the Korean revolution, it is the Paektu revolutionary spirit of today.
All the servicepersons and people should not forget even a moment that the present of prospering Songun Korea and its bright future are guaranteed by Kim Jong Il. They should embody the spirit of devotedly defending the leader in every aspect of their work and life and become heroes of the Songun era by cherishing deep in mind the call of the country and the era.
Minju Joson says that the revolutionary soldier spirit, an ideological and moral basis of the spirit of Thaechon (displayed by the builders of the Thaechon Power Station), has served as a driving force for prosperous development of the country.

Japanese Reactionaries Denounced for Denying Past Crimes

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- Prime Minister Abe and other Japanese ruling quarters insisted that there is no evidence proving the forcible recruitment of the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army, totally negating the "statement" made by Yohei Kono apologizing for the sexual slavery and calling for its retraction. It is an intolerable insult to the justice and ethics and morality and an act of going against history as these remarks are intended to connive at and encourage the war crimes.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in an article.
Admission to the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army and apology for them serve as a barometer to discern whether Japan admits to the past aggression of the Japanese imperialists or not, the article notes, and goes on:
The Japanese reactionaries are making desperate efforts to deny the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army still today, more than 60 years since the defeat of the Japanese imperialists.
The above-said reckless remarks made by the Japanese reactionaries totally denying the forcible recruitment of the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army and its involvement in it were not prompted by the feelings of any individual or the lack of understanding of history.
The desperate bid made by the Japanese authorities to grossly distort and whitewash the history of the bloody wars ignited by their forefathers despite the unanimous rebuff and denunciation from the international community is aimed at reviving militarism.
The crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army are nothing but an icon betraying Japan's aggressive nature, brutality and vulgarity and the greatest national disgrace.
Japan will meet international isolation and disgraceful destruction only if it opts for re-aggression, denying its past war crimes.

Rodong Sinmun Assails Abe's Reckless Rem

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The reckless remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Abe denying the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army are nothing but a cunning and shameless scheme to cover up the hideous crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against humanity in the past and evade the state responsibility for them. This is an intolerable insult to the victims and their bereaved families and an unpardonable challenge to the whole Korean nation and the international community demanding an apology and compensation for the crimes. Rodong Sinmun Saturday observes this in a signed commentary. It goes on:
Lurking behind his reckless remarks distorting historical facts and denying the forced recruitment of the "comfort women" is a sinister intention to tide over the crisis of his rule and push forward the militarization of Japan for reinvasion.
This suggests that Japan is set to stage a comeback to Korea to repeat such hideous state-sponsored crimes in the future.
His outbursts self-exposed how shameless the Japanese ruling quarters are and they remain unchanged in their aggressive and brutal nature peculiar to Japan and have become more pronounced in this nature.
These samurais took away hundreds of thousands of Korean women to coerce them into doing sexual servitude for the imperial Japanese army and drove millions of young and middle-aged Koreans to battle fields and forced labor sites, killing many of them. It is, therefore, nonsensical for them to talk about "abduction" and "sanctions" against someone.
The Korean nation will never pardon the oft-repeated provocative remarks made by the ruling quarters of Japan, but fully disclose the crimes perpetrated by Japan and force it to pay a dear price for them.

U.S. Moves for War of Aggression Rapped in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The 15th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly held an extraordinary meeting of its leading members in Seoul on March 10 at which it released a special resolution titled "Cancel the plan for south Korea-U.S. RSOI and the U.S. forces present in south Korea, quit this land at once".
Accusing the U.S. of attempting to defy the agreement reached at the six-party talks and escalate exercises for a war of aggression, the resolution said this indicates that the Bush administration's hostile policy toward the DPRK remains unchanged.
Hanchongryon will become a standard-bearer in the actions to carry out the tasks of attaching importance to the nation, defending peace and achieving unity and resolutely shatter the U.S. moves for a war of aggression and drive the U.S. forces out of this land, it stressed.

KCNA Denounces RSOI and Foal Eagle Joint Military Exercises

Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is going to stage RSOI and Foal Eagle joint military exercises together with the south Korean bellicose forces from Mar. 25.
This is an unpardonable military provocation as it indicates that the U.S. seeks an ulterior aim behind the curtain of dialogue.
As already reported, a series of dialogues and negotiations have been under way between the DPRK and the U.S. since the outset of the year. The world public has hailed this development and expressed hope that the countries concerned would take this hard-won opportunity to stir up the atmosphere of dialogue.
The U.S. projected the above-said military maneuvers against its dialogue partner against this backdrop, which clearly indicates who is chiefly responsible for the mounting tension on the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. is working hard to justify the above-said provocative saber-rattling, describing it as something for "defence" and the like, but this is nothing but a cheap trick.
It is nobody's secret that the U.S. military worked out an "emergency scenario for an attack upon the DPRK" under the pretext of coping with the new development after the DPRK's successful nuclear test and has since stepped up in real earnest with the preparations for mounting a surprise attack on major facilities in the DPRK.
Due to these deceptive and adventurous moves of the U.S. dark clouds of a war are hanging over the Korean Peninsula quite contrary to the expectation of the international community. U.S. imperialist aggression troops and their ultra-modern military hardware have been massively deployed in and around the peninsula after being transferred there from their U.S. mainland and its overseas bases. U.S. fighter bombers are busy with navigation and air battle drills and exercises for striking targets on the ground and familiarizing themselves with terrain in the sky above south Korea almost every day. On Mar. 13 and 14 alone dozens of U.S. mainland-based "F-117" Stealth fighter bombers staged madcap air battle exercises in the skies over North and South Jolla and Kyonggi provinces and south Korean Kangwon Province and Oeyon, Anma and Jik islets in the West Sea, while being refueled in the air. All these war moves are a prelude to the "largest-ever" RSOI and Foal Eagle projected by the U.S.
The reality goes to prove that the U.S. is only watching for a chance to invade the DPRK, refusing to abandon its attempt to stifle the DPRK by force of arms, though it is talking about dialogue.
Dialogue and war maneuvers can never go together.
The army and people of the DPRK are fully prepared to deal merciless crushing blows at the aggressors, not forgetting the U.S. arrogant nature even a moment.
The U.S. should ponder over the consequences to be entailed by their double-dealing tactics and give up their foolish attempt.

Kimilsungia Festival and Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Show to Be Held
