S. Korean People's Struggle Supported in Switzerland

Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- Martin Lotscher, chairman of the Swiss Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, released a statement on Feb. 22, 40 years after the enforcement of the south Korea-U.S. "Status of Forces Agreement" (SOFA).
The statement expressed support and solidarity with the south Korean people in the struggle against the U.S. and the "Grand National Party".
The gangster-like SOFA validates the U.S. military occupation of south Korea and grants infinite power to the U.S. troops, the statement said.
As long as the U.S. colonial rule and the subordinate and humiliating SOFA exist in south Korea, its people can never escape from misfortune and sufferings, the statement said, branding the GNP chiefly responsible for the conclusion of the SOFA as a group of pro-American fascists against the nation, democracy and reunification.

Struggle for National Reunification Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- A ceremony reportedly took place in Seoul on Feb. 24 to mark the 15th anniversary of the Solidarity Council of Organizations Cherishing the Memory of National Democratic Martyrs.
Speakers at the ceremony recalled that a large number of martyrs in south Korea fought for democratization through the April 19 popular uprising, the May 18 Kwangju popular uprising and other struggles. They said what the martyrs wanted was only to reunify the divided country.
Prior to the ceremony, there was a regular meeting of the solidarity council.
The solidarity council set forth it as main tasks for this year to wage a more vigorous movement for building a genuine society desired by the democratic martyrs and positively conduct the work to inherit their spirit together with the people from all walks of life.
The meeting adopted a resolution under the title "Our determination for carrying forward the martyrs' spirit".

Building of History Museum Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- The Institute for National Issues in south Korea reportedly held its regular meeting on February 24 and decided to build a history museum dealing with the life of the popular masses in the period of the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea till 2010, 100th year since the fabrication of the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty".
It is said that more than 20,000 pieces of materials and data collected by the institute so far would be displayed at the museum.
The institute said that the museum would serve as a permanent place for history education, which will show the real facts of the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and their wars of aggression and the miserable life of the Korean people at that time as they were so as to prevent repeat of the past.
The institute also stated that it, together with the Council for Promoting Compensation to the Pacific War Victims, would collect the then materials and data and make them public while using them in editing the "biographical dictionary of pro-Japan elements" and probing the truth behind the forced draft.
Announced at the meeting were its future action programs such as a plan for the edition of the dictionary and the framing of a general report on the damage made in the history of the Japanese imperialists' aggression.

Japan's Moves for Establishing War System under Fire

Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- Prime Minister Abe and other reactionaries of Japan are these days talking about "evasion from the post-war system".
In this regard Rodong Sinmun Sunday says in a signed article:
It is a deliberate militarist agitation offensive aimed at turning Japan into a state for aggression and war by erasing the system of the "pacifist constitution", which bans the exercise of the "right to collective self-defense" and overseas dispatch of troops, and providing a legitimate state system for overseas aggression.
Japan, steeped in aggressive nature and belligerence, is getting hell-bent on the moves to enact a war constitution under the pretext of "instituting a constitution suitable for a new era" while blustering that the "pacifist constitution" is outdated. This is a wanton violation of international law and an open challenge to the just demand of the international community.
The Japanese reactionaries' call for "evasion from the post-war system" is little short of a declaration that they will totally drop their obligation on the part of international law and turn Japan into a war state with the legitimate war system, the right of belligerency and the right to participate in war so as to openly embark upon the road of overseas aggression.
It is a well-known fact that the Japanese militarists have not abandoned their revenge and ambition for overseas aggression for decades after being defeated in World War II. They have frantically stepped up the military preparations for reinvasion in this period.
The Japanese reactionaries have already enacted war-related laws going against the "pacifist constitution". In recent ten years alone they instituted and promulgated the "law on cooperation for UN peace-keeping operation", the "law on emergency in the surrounding areas", the "special law on measures against terrorism", the "emergency legislation", etc., providing the legal framework for the establishment of the war system and legalizing overseas advance and operation of the "Self-Defense Forces".
While talking about "evasion from the post-war system", they vociferate that they would turn Japan into a "beautiful country". This is no more than a crafty trick to deceive the world public opinion.
They would be advised to bear in mind that such reckless moves for realizing their ambition for overseas aggression will only accelerate their own destruction.

February Holiday Marked

Kim Jong Il's Songun Politics Praised in U.S.

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics posted articles on its Internet homepage "Songun Video" on Feb.16 to mark the birthday of Kim Jong Il.
John Paul Cupp, chairman of the group, in an article referred in detail to the immortal exploits of Kim Jong Il who has frustrated the anti-DPRK moves of the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces and firmly defended the dignity of the nation and the sovereignty of the country by pursuing the original Songun politics.
    He went on:
The Songun politics has become a trend of the present times, and the hot wind of Songun is sweeping stronger.
The dark clouds of domination and subordination, high-handed and arbitrary practices and aggression and war would be removed under the rays of Songun and a blue sky of independence and peace, prosperity and happiness would appear beautifully over this planet.
Also posted on the homepage were articles under such titles as "The great birth and praise of it seen through the revolutionary slogan documents", "General Kim Jong Il, a peerlessly great man revered by the world" and "Independence, peace and Songun".

Exploits of Kim Jong Il Praised in Romania

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Vasile Orleanu, chairman of the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of Romania, issued a statement on Feb. 22 in connection with the fact that Kim Jong Il was awarded the "International Kim Il Sung Prize".
It is an expression of the progressive humankind's admiration for Kim Jong Il's immortal exploits for global peace and security and the human cause of independence that he was awarded the prize, the statement said.
All the successes gained by the army and people of the DPRK in defending the sovereignty of the country and building socialism are the results of his wise leadership, it noted.
It expressed the conviction that the Korean army and people would achieve greater successes in building Korean-style socialism and realizing the independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il Praised as Veteran Statesman of World

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The "International Kim Il Sung Prize" Council conferred the prize on Kim Jong Il on his birthday. It is a clear expression of the absolute reverence and respect of the members of the council and the world progressives for him, said Vishwanath, secretary general of the council, who visited the DPRK to celebrate the February holiday.
The DPRK is now shining brilliantly as the greatest country under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il, a great thinker and theoretician possessed of steadfast faith, indomitable will and matchless pluck and courage, the secretary general said, and went on:
Any moves of the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces to stifle the DPRK could never frighten the Korean people who have the prominent leader.
The gangster-like and reckless aggression moves of the imperialist U.S., who rudely infringes upon the sovereignty of other countries, styling itself as the "only super power", have been totally frustrated in the DPRK, a powerful country of Songun.
In recent years the Korean people have worked hard to usher in the great heyday in building a great prosperous powerful nation and achieving the national reunification, full of confidence in victory and optimism, even under the complicated international situation. Such reality of the DPRK gives fresh energy and courage to the world progressives in the struggle to build a peaceful and prosperous world.
Kim Jong Il has defended and glorified Korean-style socialism, the heritage of President Kim Il Sung, holding high the banner of Songun. His distinguished and tested leadership serves as a great encouragement to the world progressive humankind and anti-imperialist independent forces and a peculiar contribution to the world peace and the independent development of mankind.
The world progressive people's just struggle for independence will emerge victorious without fail as they are guided by Kim Jong Il, the great sun of the 21st century and a veteran statesman of the world who clearly indicates the way for realizing the human cause of independence.

Prizes were awarded to the successful teams and players at the ceremony.
Mun Jae Dok, chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, made a closing speech.

Struggle against War Exercises in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The preparatory committee for the south Korean Progressive Solidarity on Feb. 27 reportedly declared that it would conduct across south Korea such events as release of statements and declarations of various organizations disclosing the aggressive nature and belligerence of the south Korea-U.S. RSOI, a press conference and a seminar in this regard and rallies and demos against war exercises.
Noting that the United States and the south Korean authorities have planned to stage RSOI in March, the organization termed it an act of going against the realization of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
In another development, the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification in south Korea in a commentary on Feb. 24 said that the U.S. and the south Korean military authorities undisguisedly revealed their scheme to stage the joint military exercises according to the scenario for preemptive attack on the DPRK. It demanded an early abolition of the south Korea-U.S. "alliance" aimed at invading the DPRK.

Japan's Repression Assailed by Korean Youth and Students

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The Youth and Students Subcommittee of the North Side's Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration, the Youth and Students Headquarters of the South Side's Committee and the Liaison Council for the Formation of the Youth and Students Committee of the Overseas Side's Committee made public a joint resolution on Thursday in denunciation of the Japanese reactionaries' brutal suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan.
Branding the Japanese authorities' chronic and shameless suppression and insult to Koreans in Japan as an unpardonable challenge to the whole Korean nation, the joint resolution said:
Let us youth and students living in the June 15 era of reunification turn out shoulder to shoulder in the struggle to defend the dignity and honor of the nation as the preceding generation displayed the spirit of the nation, shouting "Long live independence," on March 1 88 years ago!
Let all of us disclose the fact that the Japanese authorities' suppression of Koreans in Japan means the suppression of the Korean nation and it has been prompted by their ambition to stage a comeback to the Korean Peninsula and revive militarism!
The young Koreans will force the Japanese reactionaries to pay dear for the crimes they have historically committed against the Korean nation and intensify the struggle till the Japanese reactionaries bring to their knees before the nation and make an apology to it.
The Japanese authorities should clearly see the strength of the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad united under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and stop acting rashly.

Food Custom on Lunar January 15 in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- It is one of the Korean people's traditional customs that they make and eat nine kinds of side dishes made of dried edible herbs along with other foodstuffs on the lunar 15th of January.
Among them are bracken, leaves of pepper, sliced radish, aralia shoots, roots of broad bellflowers, sweet-potato vines and sliced pumpkin. The custom is substantially the same in local areas.
It is told from olden times that such dried herb dishes help people stand against heat in the summer.
The custom shows the economical and meticulous housekeeping of the Korean women.
Green herbs and vegetables are rare in the country in the winter season.
But they are plentiful in the summer and autumn. The housewives, therefore, dry and keep them for the winter season.
The 9 side dishes are also good for health.

GNP's Sycophancy and Submission to U.S. under Fire

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Heavyweights of the Grand National Party of south Korea keen on running for "presidential elections" are vying with each other to call on their American masters to enlist their approvals.
In February Pak Kun Hye, former representative of the GNP, stayed in the U.S. for nine days and eight nights during which she was busy visiting mandarins of the U.S. administration and Congress including the State Secretary and was invited to give a lecture before the U.S. Media Persons Association. Ri Myong Bak, former mayor of Seoul, was reported to have been closeted with a high-ranking official of the U.S. State Department during the latter's recent visit to Seoul in a desperate bid not to lag behind the lady politician. Earlier, he made a junket to the U.S. during which he busied himself visiting high-ranking officials of the U.S. administration and senior lawmakers and addressing policy-making institutions.
Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed commentary carried in this regard says this hectic diplomacy only betrays the sorry sight of those forsaken by the south Korean people.
It goes on: The south Korean people have long turned their back on the GNP.
Gone are the days never to return when the outside forces could rule the roost in the political arena in south Korea.
The south Korean people's mindset has already pronounced the ruin of the GNP, a group of the despicable flunkeys and traitors, and it was compelled to drink a bitter cup of defeat in the "presidential elections".
This clearly indicates that the trend of the times in south Korea at present is not flunkeyism towards the U.S. but independence against the U.S.
It is great pity that the GNP is still clinging to the coattail of its American masters without dropping its inveterate habit of kowtowing to them, bereft of reason.

All Koreans Urged to Throw Overboard Group of Traitors in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The key to leading to final victory the present era of independent reunification, a product of the strenuous struggle of the nation, is to implement the June 15 joint declaration to the letter. To this end, it is necessary to make a clean sweep of the south Korean pro-U.S. conservative forces as they are working with bloodshot eyes to totally negate and nullify the declaration.
Rodong Sinmun Saturday urges this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The stepped-up process of reconciliation and reunification between the north and the south would compel the foreign forces to quit south Korea. That is why the traitors of the GNP are making so desperate bid to pursue moves against the reunification as they who have so far relied upon them will find no room to prolong their remaining days.
The south Korean ultra-right conservative forces including the GNP even asserted that the presence of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces in south Korea would be necessary even after the reunification, painting them as what they called "war deterrent" despite the fact that they are the source of war. Not content with this, they traveled to the U.S. to beg for the permanent presence of those forces in south Korea.
One of the aims sought by these traitors may be to please their masters and come to power backed by them and their real aim is to quell the fellow countrymen's desire for independent reunification and do harm to them with the help of foreign forces.
If this group of traitors is allowed to go reckless, they will throw serious obstacles and difficulties in the way of achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula and the independent reunification of the Korean nation and reduce the June 15 joint declaration to a dead paper.
If this is allowed to happen, it would be impossible to realize the desire of the Korean people to live in a new independent democratic society, free from foreign forces and fascist suppression, the article concludes.

Humiliating SOFA under Fire

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- The south Korea-U.S. "Status of Forces Agreement"(SOFA) is nothing but a disgraceful document jointly produced by the aggressors and the traitors as it grants the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea extraterritorial privilege in wanton violation of the dignity and sovereignty of the south Korean people. Rodong Sinmun Saturday notes this in a signed article carried four decades since the treaty formally took effect.
There are a lot of agreements in the world, but no agreement gives the occupation forces, the aggressors, such unlimited extraterritorial privilege as the above-said SOFA does, the article deplores, and goes on:
The U.S. imperialists concluded with the Syngman Rhee clique on July 12, 1950 the "Taejon agreement" stipulating the status and rights of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea. This agreement stipulated that the "criminal jurisdiction" over the crimes committed by the U.S. forces should not belong to the south Korean authorities but to the U.S.
The U.S. imperialist aggressor troops in south Korea infringed upon south Korean people's lives and properties everywhere they went, triggering off bitter anti-American sentiment. Feeling very uneasy and upset at this development, the U.S. imperialists conspired with the "Yusin" military fascist clique to replace the "Taejon agreement" by the SOFA.
"Criminal jurisdiction," "civil case trial and claim to reparation," "immigration control," "exemption of customs" and "use of facilities and land," etc. by the U.S. forces in south Korea stipulated by the SOFA are just part of the provisions in the agreement that prove the treacherous nature of this agreement.
The aggressive and humiliating nature of the SOFA has been clearly testified to by what has happened over the last four decades.
The number of the crimes committed by GIs in south Korea for four decades has not decreased but has steadily increased, the means and methods involved in perpetrating such crimes baffling human imagination.
Even according to the official data released in south Korea, the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces have committed all sorts of crimes such as murder, violence and plunder over the last four decades since the conclusion of the SOFA or five or more cases on a daily average and nearly 2,000 cases on an annual average.
The inviolable land of Korea is now being devastated and its beautiful natural and ecological environment seriously destroyed due to the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops' monstrous killings, destruction and war exercises targeted against the DPRK.
All this is the catastrophic product of the SOFA. The south Korean people from all walks of life are called upon to turn out in brave popular actions for the repeal of the SOFA.

KCNA Raps Japan's Stand on Issue of "Comfort Women"

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Japan is much upset after congressional hearing was held recently on the issue of the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army and a resolution on this issue was presented to U.S. Congress.
Thrown into an awkward situation by what victims of the "comfort women" whom the international community described as clear evidence proving abuses of women testified at the hearing, Japan is resorting to a desperate lobbying operation to stonewall the congressional passage of the resolution come what may.
This is evidenced by the fact that Japan sent a message to U.S. Congress, asserting that it is inappropriate to adopt such resolution, and dispatched officials concerned to the U.S. to meet media and legislators and Dietmen from the Liberal Democratic Party made statements denying the forcible drafting of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army and modifying the statement made by the then Chief Cabinet Secretary apologizing for the past wrongs.
All these acts glaringly reveal before the world that Japan having a crime-woven history remains unchanged in its political and moral image in this century.
As a matter of fact, the Japanese imperialists' overseas aggression in the past century brought only untold hardships and misfortune to many countries and nations. Their harsh colonial rule over Korea for nearly half a century deprived it of a precious period of development and prosperity.
They took away 200,000 Korean women as "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army, forcing them to provide sex for its servicemen and killing most of them. This was the most hideous crime against humanity. These sexual slaves, their chastity mercilessly violated, were denied the right to get married with their beloved ones and have undergone unbearable sufferings.
The world history of wars does not know such precedent as the organized sexual slavery system enforced by Japan whereby it forcibly drafted, lured and abducted foreign women and took them to battle fields to satisfy the carnal desire of its servicemen.
It was only Japan that perpetrated such hideous crimes related to the "comfort women" for the army.
What matters is that Japan is trying hardest to evade its responsibility, refusing to admit its crime-woven history even today when there remain only a small number of survivors of the sexual slavery, their scars unhealed and their towering grudge unsettled despite the flow of so long period of time.
Japanese politicians are, however, brazen-faced enough to busy themselves with shuttle diplomacy to cover up their despicable true colors, shelving the issue of "comfort women."
There is no reason for Japan to be upset by any hearing or the adoption of any resolution if it is willing to honestly settle its inglorious past.
Japan is obliged to honestly settle its crime-woven past for its own sake.
Any sleight of hand played by Japan to cover up its past wrongs would only strip bare its ugly picture and would never help it gain a responsible post in the international community.
It can win confidence only through its good conduct.

Tree-planting Day Observed in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- All the people in the DPRK have turned out in the spring tree-planting campaign on the Tree-planting Day.
On March 2, Juche 35 (1946), President Kim Il Sung climbed Moran Hill, together with Kim Jong Il and anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk, and worked out a far-reaching plan to turn the liberated country into a beautiful land.
Senior party and state officials, working people from all walks of life and school youth and children on Friday visited the arboretum of the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, the Revolutionary Site on Munsu Hill, the April 15 Children's Flower Garden and the Ponghwa Revolutionary Site to plant trees there for the first time this year.
Maple, gingko and persimmon were among those trees of various species and flower shrubs planted.
Leading officials of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces and servicepersons, too, planted at least 13,000 trees of ten odd species, including pine-nut tree and Evodia Daniellii Benn, in the arboretum of the Kumsusan Memorial Palace.
Participating in the tree-planting campaign on the same day were those at the Ministry of Railways and in different provinces, cities and counties.

GNP Clans' Crimes under Fire

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Truth behind the human rights abuses perpetrated by the past fascist clique was recently revealed in succession in south Korea.
In this regard a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland made public a statement on Saturday, which said: There can never be prescription for the crimes committed by the clans of the Grand National Party of south Korea against humanity.
No such fascist group can be found in the world as the GNP clans who have brandished the sword of fascist dictatorship so harshly over their fellow countrymen generation after generation in a bid to attain their mean political aims, the statement said, and went on:
If the GNP comes to power, the dark era in the past will be repeated worse and the innocent people will have to shed blood again.
Descendants of the notorious "Yusin" dictatorship, fascist judges, torture specialists and murderers are now taking important posts in the GNP and swaggering at large. Even they are seeking to seize the "presidential office."
They openly show hostility towards the June 15 forces while cooking up a sinister plot to eliminate the forces. They have worked out even a "list of those to be killed", whetting the sword of revenge upon them.
The GNP is taking pains to improve its image stained with its anti-national crimes and violations of human rights, talking about "public welfare" and "politics for the people." But there will be no change in the fascist nature of the GNP tending to violate human rights, even if it takes any form of disguise.
The bloody GNP's lip-service to human rights, democracy and public welfare is an insult to justice and conscience, and it is the height of shamelessness.

Greetings to Bulgarian President

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Saturday sent a message of greetings to Georgi Parvanov, President of Bulgaria, on the occasion of its national day.
In the message, Kim expressed the belief that the long-standing relations of friendship between the two countries would continue to develop in the mutual interests.

Anti-Japan Struggle Supported in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) reportedly issued a statement on Feb. 24 supporting the anti-Japan struggle of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan.
The statement recalled the fact that Chongryon and Koreans in Japan decided to sponsor a "meeting of Koreans in Japan for commemorating March 1" to protest the Japanese authorities' unreasonable political suppression and human rights abuses against Chongryon.
Japan has engaged itself in grossly violating the rights of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, following the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, the statement pointed out, and said:
Japan should make clear who enforced the Koreans in Japan to live there and how they have been maltreated.
Japan should be well aware that if it turns aside from the truth, this will only add to the crimes it should redress.
The South Headquarters of Pomminryon will continue the struggle till the Japanese authorities stop their crackdown upon Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.

Japanese Authorities Urged to Stop Outrages

Pyongyang, March 3 (KCNA) -- Yang Yong Dong, chairman of the General Association of Koreans in China, released a statement on Feb. 26 to bitterly denounce the Japanese reactionary authorities' inhumane outrages against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and Koreans in Japan.
Branding such behavior as a mockery of the world peace-loving people and an unpardonable crime against the Korean people, the statement demanded the Japanese authorities immediately stop their outrages against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
