A congratulatory message of the WPK Central Committee to the officials, journalists, translators and employees of the agency was conveyed at the meeting.
The congratulatory message said that the KCNA founded on Dec. 5 Juche 35 (1946) has resolutely defended the party and the leader in the annals of the revolution and construction and creditably discharged its role as an information distributor, educator and a mouthpiece for the party, covering a proud and glorious path of victory for the past six decades.

It said that the KCNA has grown up to be a dependable news service center of the party which performs a key role in the media field and a prestigious media institution conveying the voices of the party to the whole world.
The message reiterated the belief that the officials, journalists, translators and employees of the agency would make bigger success in the news service to glorify the ideology, system and cause of the DPRK, while single-mindedly uniting around Kim Jong Il and thus creditably live up to the deep trust and expectation of the party.
Kim Ki Ryong, general director of the KCNA, made a report to be followed by speeches.

Appeal of C.C., DFRF Supported

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The Society of Koreans in Germany for Cooperation made public a statement titled "Unity leads to peace and split to war" on Nov. 28 in full support of the appeal issued by the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland which clarified that the DPRK's war deterrent for self-defence is for freeing the Korean Peninsula from the danger of nuclear war posed by the U.S. The statement said that the appeal published when the DPRK is dynamically advancing towards the building of a great prosperous powerful nation after having access to powerful war deterrent taught the Koreans at home and abroad once again that the Korean nation should preserve and materialize the idea of "By our nation itself" enshrined in the June 15 joint declaration in order to achieve the peaceful reunification of the country.
It called upon all the Koreans to turn out as one in the struggle to implement the June 15 joint declaration, bearing deep in mind the historical truth that unity leads to peace and split to war when the dawn of national reunification is breaking.

Hanchongryon Demands Repeal of NSL

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly made public a special statement on Dec. 1, calling for putting an end to the history of the "National Security Law." The statement noted that the people demand repeal of the evil law, but the Grand National Party of south Korea and other pro-U.S. conservative forces are insisting on keeping the NSL and desperately trying to rig up all sorts of "spy ring cases" on the strength of the NSL and suppress the forces of progressive reform.
The NSL should be repealed to liquidate the history of disgrace in which the progressive organizations and personages have been suppressed and smash the moves of the pro-U.S. conservative forces to come to power again, the statement said, adding:
Youths and students in this land will pool efforts together with the progressive reform organizations and people to intensify their struggle for repeal of the evil law.

S. Korean Unionists Go on General Strike

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) reportedly launched an all-out full strike on Dec. 1 to denounce the authorities for railroading a bill on part-time jobs through the "National Assembly." More than 4,000 unionists of the KCTU held a resolution meeting in front of the NA building in Seoul on that day.
Jo Jun Ho, chairman of the KCTU, Mun Song Hyon, representative of the Democratic Labor Party, and other speakers at the meeting called upon all workers to declare the railroading of the bill invalid and turn out in the general strike for checking the retrogressive revision of the labor law.
After the meeting the participants launched the struggle to enter the building of the NA, breaking the police cordon.
At least 100,000 unionists of the KCTU including over 70,000 members of the Federation of Metal Industry Trade Unions under it entered into an all-out general strike on the same day.
The Freight Transport Solidarity held the starting ceremony of the general strike in 13 regions of south Korea including Kwangju, Taejon, Pusan and Ulsan and strongly demanded repeal of the railroaded bill on part-time jobs.

U.S. Human Rights Abuses under Fire

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The United States said no to a resolution on racism and xenophobia submitted to a meeting of the recent third committee of the 61st UN General Assembly. Only three countries including the U.S. voted against the resolution for which more than 100 UN member nations voted. The fact clearly proves that the U.S. is clean indifferent to the fair settlement of the human rights issue and pursues only a sinister purpose under the pretext of the human rights issue, observes Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed commentary.
The U.S. is wantonly violating human rights and keen on crackdown on religion not only at home but also in the international arena. The U.S. talk about human rights itself is an insult to human rights and a mockery of humankind, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the human rights abuses. Its "war on terrorism" is an infringement upon sovereignty and human rights abuses committed under the ostentatious pretext of "combating terrorism." The sovereignty of legitimate sovereign states is recklessly violated and the innocent people are ruthlessly killed owing to the U.S. imperialists' brigandish state-sponsored terrorism. More than 650,000 civilians lost their lives in Iraq since the U.S. imperialists' invasion of it. The U.S. veto on the resolution denouncing Israel's massacre of Palestinian civilians at a UN Security Council meeting clearly betrays its true colors as the world's biggest human rights abuser.
The U.S. is not a religious judge but a criminal which should stand a religious trial as the principal criminal who is to blame for cracking down upon and stamping out religion. In the U.S. the slander of Islam is frantic and hatred for Islam has grown higher than ever before.
Such being the case, the U.S. is openly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of "human rights" and "religious issue" only to reveal its arrogance and shamelessness.

S. Korean Authorities' Suppression of People's Struggle under Fire

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities should stop at once the suppression of people and organizations struggling against the conclusion of the unequal and submissive treacherous "Free Trade Agreement" and immediately discontinue their moves for its conclusion, as unanimously demanded by all the fellow countrymen. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a signed commentary. Terming the reckless suppression a vicious anti-national folly as it is intended to obliterate the just struggle of the people for the national dignity, interests and sovereignty, the commentary goes on:
The protest against the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. FTA is now growing stronger in different parts of south Korea. It is a manifestation of the south Korean people's staunch will to protect the national dignity, sovereignty and vital rights.
The FTA is a noose of the U.S. domination and subordination over south Korea.
In order to check the conclusion of this treacherous agreement the south Korean people have waged massive and vigorous struggles such as 12 million-people signature campaign for checking the conclusion of the FTA, tour to the U.S. to stage protests, and demos in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan, the U.S. embassy and the U.S. chamber of commerce and industry after inaugurating various organizations.
Steadfast is the will of the south Korean people not to allow the conclusion of the aggressive, predatory and humiliating "agreement". This is very just and can never be criminalized.

In Pyongyang, the finishing touch is being given to the projects of revamping the roads and Namgang Bridge destroyed by flood and the first phase project of the bank revetment of the River Taedong.

And Kim Chaek City of North Hamgyong Province has readjusted the section of the river between Suwon-dong and Janghyon-dong and constructed several thousand meters of bank roads to facelift the river and provide better traffic convenience.

Chosan County, Jagang Province, carried out various projects including expansion of roads, bridge construction and river improvement.
Tree-planting and land management campaign has been vigorously conducted in cities and counties of South Phyongan, South Hwanghae and Kangwon Provinces.

Korean Women in Japan Protest against Japanese Authorities' Suppression

Tokyo, December 2 (KNS-KCNA) -- Officials of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and Korean women in Japan, who have turned out in the struggle to frustrate the unreasonable sanctions of the Japanese authorities against the DPRK and their suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), staged a protest in Chima and Jogori (Korean women's costume) in front of the Dietmen's Hall in Tokyo on Dec. 1. Present at the seven-hour demonstration and sit-in strike were women's union officials of the central and prefectural headquarters of Chongryon and Korean women in Kanto area.
The participants expressed their will to defend Korean schools and students with the strength of mothers, saying that they cannot repress surging national indignation at the Japanese authorities' suppression of Chongryon.
They held a protest meeting before their demonstration and sit-in strike.
Their struggle was supported by Japanese personages of different standings.
Joining in their sit-in strike were at least 20 Japanese women officials including Sumiko Shimizu, former member of the House of Councilors who is representative of the Japanese Women's Liaison Society for Solidarity with the Korean Women, and Kimiko Kurihara, leader of the New Socialist Party.

Kim Jong Il Provides Field Guidance to Co-op Farm

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to a newly built village of the Migok Cooperative Farm in Sariwon City. He looked round the monument to the on-the-spot guidance given by President Kim Il Sung and the revolutionary museum.
He visited the families of discharged officer Kim Kyo Son and farmers including Choe Je Gun and O Yun Sang and expressed great satisfaction with the successful construction of modern dwelling houses of various styles convenient to farmers' living.
After acquainting himself with the farm work done on the farm, he underscored the need for the farm to bring about a fresh boost in the agricultural production on the basis of the successes made in it in the past and spruce up the village to meet the need of socialism. He specified tasks and ways to do so.
A solid foundation has been laid to significantly boost the agricultural production through a dynamic drive for rural construction waged in different parts of the country in recent years, he noted, adding that this signal success constitutes a precious asset for finding a final solution to the peasants' question, the rural question in the country.
Noting that the dynamic progress of the ideological, technical and cultural revolutions in the countryside and the increased assistance to it and the strengthened state guidance to the co-op farms helped rapidly realize the working-classization of the peasantry and the industrialization of agriculture and radically change the appearance of the rural areas, thereby considerably narrowing down the difference between the urban and rural areas, he stressed this strikingly demonstrates the validity and great vitality of the Theses on the Socialist Rural Question authored by the President and the advantageous socialist rural economy system in the country.
In order to successfully solve the rural question it is necessary to strengthen the guidance to agriculture and increase assistance to it and enable all the farmers, in particular, to live in cozy and fashionable houses and build a sufficient number of cultural and welfare facilities of diverse styles to promote every convenience in their living, he noted.
He underscored the need for the whole country and all people to continue concentrating all efforts on farming with a view to bringing about a signal surge in the agricultural production as the agricultural front is the most important and principal one for solving the people's problems of clothing, food and housing.
