Diamond Jubilee of KJU Observed

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Friday to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean Journalists Union. Among those present there was Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
A congratulatory message from the WPK Central Committee to the officials of the KJU and all the journalists and other media persons was conveyed.
The WPK Central Committee in the message said: President Kim Il Sung founded the KJU, a Juche-based revolutionary organization of journalists, on Oct. 11, Juche 35 (1946) on the basis of the brilliant tradition of developing revolutionary publications established by him during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle. Kim Jong Il set forth the revolutionary policy on bringing about a new turn in the work of the union as required by the process of modeling all members of the society on the Juche idea and has wisely led the journalists and other media persons to fully discharge their duties as the ideological standard-bearers of the Party in the efforts to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, the Songun revolutionary cause.
The message highly praised the officials of the union and all the journalists and other media persons for having successfully carried out their revolutionary duties as forerunners in the ideological work of the Party with loyalty and devotion to the Party and the revolution over the last six decades.
It also expressed the firm belief that they would singled-mindedly unite around Kim Jong Il and perform in a responsible manner the role of an admirable educator, hard-working information personnel and faithful mouthpiece in carrying into practice the idea and leadership of the Party.
Kim Kum Bok, vice-chairman of the KJU Central Committee, made a report at the meeting.

Respect for Sovereignty Called for

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- What is most important for establishing a fair international order is to respect the sovereignty of every country and establish equal relations among countries. It is a fundamental requirement for building a new fair international order to abide by the principle of respect for sovereignty. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a by-lined article.
    It goes on:
Without having sovereignty guaranteed, it is impossible to ensure the independent development of a country and nation nor is it possible to preserve and consolidate world peace and security. Nobody has the right to infringe upon the sovereignty of other country and nation. For this reason, the principle of respect for sovereignty constitutes a universally accepted norm governing the international relations to be observed by all countries.
Though this principle serves as a basis on which to develop international relations, the new century is witnessing more undisguised acts of infringing upon the sovereignty of other countries and nations. The imperialists are chiefly to blame for this. The U.S. imperialists, in particular, are behaving as they please, lording it over the international arena in utter disregard of international law, justice and impartiality. The "anti-terrorism war" launched by the U.S. imperialists since the outset of the new century is an act of aggression intended to infringe upon the sovereignty of other countries and establish an order for world domination. This hard reality goes to prove that the building of a new fair international order would turn out to be nothing but an empty talk unless the moves of the imperialists to infringe upon the sovereignty are foiled.
If the principle of respect for sovereignty is to be firmly observed, it is necessary not to tolerate any interference in the internal affairs of other countries and nations.
All countries and nations should stand firm against the moves of the imperialists to meddle in their internal affairs. When they make a concession to the imperialists' demand, they will be forced to concede a hundred times and then lose their sovereignty in the end.
They should not allow the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the imperialists. They are getting more desperate in their high-handed acts. This reality goes to prove that it is very important to build up military muscle strong enough to decisively counter their moves. It is a day dream to expect someone to protect one's sovereignty or calculate that any compromise or concession may help defend one's sovereignty, the article concludes.

Rodong Sinmun on Tradition of Struggle to Establish Juche

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- The tradition of the struggle to establish Juche has served as an eternal lifeline for accomplishing the cause of Korean-style socialism. Rodong Sinmun Saturday says this in a by-lined article.
    It goes on:
President Kim Il Sung formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU) in October Juche 15 (1926), taking anti-imperialism, independence and sovereignty as a basic idea. This marked a historic event as it ushered in a new era of the Korean revolution in which it advanced on the principle of independence against all sorts of flunkeyism and dogmatism.
The above-said tradition that originated from the DIU has served as a fundamental guarantee and a driving force that has helped the Korean revolution dynamically advance along the road of victory without vacillation in any storm and stress for the past eight decades.
The President had consistently maintained the principle of independence, the banner of Juche held aloft by the DIU, in the whole period of leading the Korean revolution and led the Korean people to settle all issues arising in the revolution and construction by their own efforts in a responsible manner.
The slogan "Let us live our own way!" put up by the Workers' Party of Korea fully reflects the revolutionary faith and will of the Party, the army and the people in the DPRK to inherit to the last the great tradition of the struggle to establish Juche which originated from the DIU and carry out the revolution and construction their own way, guided by their own faith no matter which way the wind may blow.
The above-said tradition serves as a valuable treasure as it encourages the servicepersons and people to win victory in the stand-off with U.S.-led imperialism and successfully push ahead with the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
The DPRK enjoys ever-growing dignity and might and the Korean revolution witnesses a new historic turn despite the daily pronounced hostile policy of the U.S. imperialists towards it. This is a striking demonstration of the WPK's line of independence.
The tradition is based on the firm faith of the Korean people to carry out the revolution and construction according to their independent judgment and determination and the idea of achieving the prosperity of the country and the nation by relying on their own efforts. This great tradition serves as an eternal banner of victory as it guides the revolutionary cause in the DPRK to advance along a straight path, the article concludes.

Letter to Kim Jong Il Adopted in Peru

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at a national meeting held in Peru on Oct. 12 on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU). The U.S. imperialists are getting frantic in their moves against the DPRK, frightened by its might as it has firmly adhered to the principles of independence and the right to self-determination and built self-reliant defence capability and is praised by the world for its high dignity, the letter said, and went on:
In the 1990s when the U.S. imperialists cried that "collapse" of Korean socialism was just a matter of time, the WPK laid it down as its strategic line to more dynamically enforce the Songun policy in order to bolster the socialist defence capability and defend the sovereignty of the country. It was thanks to the Songun policy that the DPRK could successfully push ahead with the socialist construction despite all threats and difficulties and has now acquired high nuclear technology.
We join the world revolutionaries in extending unequivocal support to the struggle of the DPRK, the WPK and the Korean people led by Kim Jong Il.

    C. P. Mainali, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Nepal Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), said that under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il the WPK and the Korean people have firmly defended socialism while shattering the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK. Appeal of Swiss Organizations Supported by Nepalese Organizations

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- The Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Library in Nepal, the Nepalese National Memorial Committee for the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, the Nepal-Korea Friendship Association, the Kabre, Nepal, Committee for Supporting the Reunification of Korea and the Bairawa, Nepal, Solidarity Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification issued a joint statement in Katmandu on Oct. 18, supporting the appeal issued by Swiss organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people calling upon the world peace-loving people to join the Korean people in commemorating the Day of the Sun and the significant February holiday in 2007. The Nepalese organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people will form a preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and February 16 in 2007 and hold diverse friendly and cultural events to jointly commemorate the greatest national holidays of the Korean people, the statement said.
It noted that they would take the visit to the old home of Kim Jong Il in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu as an opportunity of boosting the bonds with the righteous and friendly Korean people.
Supporting once again the proposal for holding a meeting of Asian-Pacific regional organizations for peace and reunification of Korea in Pyongyang in February 2007, the statement declared that the organizations would positively contribute to achieving the Korean people's cause of independent and peaceful reunification in the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
They will conduct widespread information and solidarity activities to express understanding and support to the self-defensive and peaceful nuclear policy pursued by the DPRK, it noted.

Japan's Moves to Revive Militarism under Fire

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, ministers of the Japanese government and lawmakers paid a group visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine." This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Sunday. The commentary says: This is a clear indication that the new Japanese ruling quarters are invariably pursuing the policy of reviving militarism. This is a blatant mockery of and challenge to peace and, at the same time, an unpardonable act of rubbing salt into the wounds of the Asian people. Noting that the Japanese ruling quarters' visit to the shrine presents itself as a very sensitive political issue, the commentary goes on:
Their visit to the shrine is not intended to "repent of the crimes committed by Japan in the past" as they claim but instill the militaristic idea into the Japanese people in a bid to create a social atmosphere for reinvasion.
If the Japanese reactionaries' moves to instill the militaristic idea into the Japanese and their moves for overseas aggression are overlooked, they will bring again horrendous disasters to the Asian people.
The above-said moves frantically stepped up by the Japanese reactionaries, while persistently evading the liquidation of their past crimes are little short of pushing Japan to self-destruction.
The Japanese authorities would be well advised to behave themselves, clearly mindful that it is the only way of regaining the trust of the international community to abandon their ambition for overseas expansion, honestly repent of the past crimes committed by Japan and redress them as early as possible.

Meeting Held in Seoul to Check Conclusion of FTA

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- A meeting took place in Seoul on Oct. 25 to vow to check the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, according to a press report. Speakers at the meeting referred to a fierce struggle now under way on Jeju Island to foil the 4th negotiation for the conclusion of FTA despite the brutal suppression by the authorities.
They called for successfully staging popular resistance in November, recalling that the workers resolved to wage an all-out struggle to check the conclusion of FTA through a strike while youths and students vowed to wage the struggle through information service.

More Meetings Hail Successful Nuclear Test

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- More meetings of servicepersons and people took place in different cities and counties of the country to hail the successful historic nuclear test. Meetings were held in Nampho and Manpho cities, Phyongwon and Kangryong counties, Kaesong and Jongju cities, Tongrim and Phyongsan counties, Kim Chaek City, and Kosan, Cholwon and Rakwon counties.
Speakers at the meetings said that the successive U.S. administrations have pursued very hostile policies towards the DPRK as evidenced by nuclear threat, sanctions and pressure, adding that the present administration was brazen-faced enough to describe the DPRK's recent nuclear test as a "threat" to international peace and security and mobilize its followers to adopt the UN Security Council "resolution" against the DPRK. They branded the U.S. imperialists as a vicious foe of peace.
They bitterly denounced the "resolution", a product of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, noting that it is a challenge to the DPRK and a declaration of war against it.
Speakers said upon hearing exciting news that the DPRK successfully conducted a nuclear test with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 per cent, the servicepersons and people felt proud of the Juche-oriented science and technology making a leaping advance in the era of Songun and confident of the emergence of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
It is a sure guarantee for the victory in the revolution to unite closer around Kim Jong Il, they added.
They firmly pledged themselves to defend the socialist country as firm as an invulnerable fortress and bring about fresh leaps and miracles in the economic construction, true to the great Songun policy, and thus bring earlier a bright morrow of rich and powerful prosperous Korea of Juche.

Struggle against Conclusion of FTA Unabated in S. Korea

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- An action was reportedly staged on Jeju Island on Oct. 24, too to check the 4th negotiation for the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement". A meeting took place in Sogwipho that day to vow to check the 4th negotiation for the conclusion of FTA with attendance of at least 1,000 members of the group of visitors to Jeju Island for actions and civic and public bodies in the island.
Speakers at the meeting urged the progressive camp to form a united front to throw overboard the U.S. imperialists and the conservative forces, their lackeys in south Korea and build a new world by the concerted efforts of the people, calling on all of them to turn out in the November all-out actions to achieve the above-said goal.
A solidarity statement of the Koreans' organization in the U.S. was read out at the meeting.
The statement expressed the determination of the organization to boost the solidarity with the progressive movement forces in the U.S. and thus give further momentum to the actions to check the conclusion of FTA.
As the participants were marching towards the venue of the negotiation at the end of the meeting, riot police cracked down upon them, leaving not a few protesters wounded.
The Pan-National Movement Headquarters for checking the negotiation of the south Korea-U.S. FTA held a meeting in protest against the police suppression.
A similar meeting was held by farmers, stockbreeders and fishermen on the same day.
Speakers at the meeting said that the fishermen would also actively join people of various strata in their actions to check the conclusion of FTA.

Missile Firing Exercise in S. Korea under Fire

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- The south Korean air force conducted a missile Hawk firing exercise in an air-force firing range in Poryong, South Chungchong Province on Oct. 26, according to KBS of south Korea. The firing drill that day was reportedly observed by lawmakers belonging to the "National Defense Committee of the National Assembly."
The south Korean marine corps launched a joint landing exercise together with U.S. troops on Oct. 19 in the presence of "observers." And the south Korean army kicked off a "2006 homeland defence exercise," a large-scale military maneuver, throughout Kyonggi Province on October 25.
All this clearly indicates that the south Korean military war hawks are persisting in their saber rattling to attack the north in order to strain the situation on the Korean Peninsula, pursuant to the U.S. imperialists' evermore undisguised policy to stifle the DPRK, although all the fellow countrymen strongly desire peace.

Greetings to President of Czech Republic

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Saturday sent a message of greetings to Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the establishment of the independent state, its national day. U.S. Pressure on S. Korea to Apply Sanctions against DPRK Assailed

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- The United States is pressurizing south Korea to apply sanctions against the DPRK and inciting confrontation with it, citing its nuclear deterrent for self-defence as a pretext. This is an intolerable encroachment upon the dignity and sovereignty of the Korean nation as it is a gangster-like act which clearly reveals its scenario for a war of aggression against the DPRK. A spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council said this in a statement Saturday.
The U.S. is instructing south Korea to do this or that, dictating specific items to be subject to "sanctions against the north," the statement says, and goes on:
This behavior of the U.S. is nothing but a brazen-faced outrage aimed to drive a wedge between the north and the south of Korea, incite confrontation between fellow countrymen and push the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the phase of war.
It is a trite method employed by the U.S. to create hostility between the fellow countrymen and pit them against themselves.
The U.S. employed the same method when igniting the last Korean war. It is still resorting to this method.
It would be impossible for the Korean nation to defend the valuable gains brought about by the June 15 joint declaration and avoid the disaster of a nuclear war if the U.S. sinister attempt to let the Koreans fight between themselves and fish in trouble waters was left unchecked.
