KCNA Blasts Japan's Financial Sanctions against DPRK

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Japanese Cabinet in its meeting held on September 19 approved the application of "financial sanctions" against the DPRK. This action calling for suspending the remittance and freezing assets targets 15 enterprises and corporations related to the DPRK. It was taken in the wake of the prohibition of the entry of the DPRK liner Mangyongbong-92 into Japanese ports. Japan declared sanctions against more financial institutions and corporations of the DPRK, plus those against which the United States designated as targets of its sanctions. Such shrewd attitude of Japan cannot but arouse the concern of the international community.
Why is Japan becoming so zealous in the sanctions against the DPRK? The financial sanctions taken by Japan against the DPRK can not be construed otherwise than a politically motivated charade intended to please its American master, pursuant to Washington's hostile policy towards the DPRK.
The undisguised actions taken by the Japanese reactionaries in a bid to tighten their sanctions against the DPRK are no more than reckless and provocative acts of leading the DPRK-Japan relations to a more serious phase of confrontation in wanton violation of the spirit and principles of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration. Japan is blindly copying whatever policy of the U.S. It is keen to fish in troubled waters both in political and military aspects, backed by the U.S. Such behavior of Japan would only result in straining the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of the Asia-Pacific.
It is well known that Japan considers itself as part of the U.S. So, its racket of sanctions is nothing surprising for the DPRK and it does not feel any need to deal with it as a separate issue.
It is ridiculous for Japan to talk about playing a "responsible role in the international community" and "its contribution" as it is unashamed of being a waiting maid for the U.S.
The DPRK will not remain a passive on-looker to the provocative and despicable behavior of Japan but continue taking necessary counter-measures.

Songun Policy Praised by American Study Group

Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Group for the Study of Songun Politics posted photos of leader Kim Jong Il and articles praising the Songun policy on its Internet homepage. Seen on the homepage was an article titled "Songun, great banner of cause of independence" which said that the Songun policy of Korea serves as an ever-victorious treasured sword for firmly protecting independence and justice and victoriously advancing the cause of socialism.
The homepage in another article captioned "Songun policy based on the Juche idea" stressed it is thanks to the Songun policy that the DPRK is dynamically pushing forward the building of a great prosperous powerful nation, foiling the U.S. moves to isolate and stifle it.

Rodong Sinmun on Korean People's Faith in Socialism

Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- Grim ordeals and difficulties are lying in the way of the Korean revolution owing to the U.S. imperialists' vicious moves against the DPRK but all its people have strong faith that they are sure to win and the future of the country is bright as they are guided by Kim Jong Il. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article. It goes on:
The Korean people's faith in socialism is, first of all, based on the absolute belief in the validity of the ideas and line of Kim Jong Il.
The course in which the Korean people won great victories in the confrontation with the United States and brought about signal changes in building a great prosperous powerful nation under the great banner of Songun during the "Arduous March", the forced march, firmly convinced them that his ideas and policies serve as the most powerful weapon for accomplishing the cause of socialism of Korean style. It has become a deep-rooted trait of the army and people of the DPRK to devotedly implement his ideas and intention, regarding his revolutionary ideas as their maxim of struggle and life.
The Korean people's faith in socialism is also based on the undisputed conviction of the advantages of the Korean-style socialist system holding him in high esteem as their father.
Benevolent social policies such as free education and free medical service were invariably enforced and a dynamic work was conducted to improve the standard of the people's living and enhance the level of cultural and emotional life of the working people at the state expense in so difficult time of the country as the period of the "Arduous March", the forced march. This was possible only under the socialist system in Korea. Our society is like a large family as all its members help and lead each other forward on the basis of collectivism. People's beautiful traits of devoting themselves to society and the collective and revolutionary comrades prevail in the society.
The Korean people's faith in socialism is also based on the unshakable conviction that they are always sure to triumph under the leadership of Kim Jong Il. They experienced the great heyday in the era of the Workers' Party in the 1970s and 1980s and a shining victory in defending socialism in the 1990s under his leadership. They also witnessed the stirring reality in which the country made a leap forward toward the eminence of a great prosperous powerful nation despite the worst adversity which might force others to collapse. Kim Jong Il has brought about great victories and tremendous changes in all fields, political, military, economic and cultural with his matchless grit, pluck, extraordinary stratagem and revolutionary sweep, shattering every move of the U.S. imperialists and reactionaries against the DPRK. The dawn of a great prosperous powerful nation is breaking in the DPRK thanks to his wise guidance. This stirring reality is reinforcing the Korean people's conviction that the cause of socialism of Korean style is sure to triumph in the future.

End to U.S. Hostile Policy towards North Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- A seminar was held in Seoul on Sept. 18 under the sponsorship of the Democratic Workers' Party of south Korea on the occasion of the first anniversary of the adoption of the September 19 joint statement, according to a press report. The speakers at the seminar said that it is not effective to apply financial sanctions against the north in a bid to pressurize it to come out for the six-party talks at a time when the discord between the north and the U.S. is becoming more acute as the days go by, adding that it is the only way of settling the crisis on the Korean Peninsula for the U.S. to lift its financial sanctions against the north and drop its hostile policy towards the north.
It is the task of the progressive camp in south Korea to pressurize the U.S. to strive to peacefully realize the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through dialogue as it promised in the joint statement.
In the meantime, the Girl Student Representatives Council of south Korea also issued a statement titled "The U.S., implement the September 19 joint statement and lift the sanctions against the north at once" on Sept. 19.

Rodong Sinmun Hails Success of NAM Summit

Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- The non-aligned movement (NAM) will in the future, too, invariably defend its ideal and principle and steadily increase the efficiency in its activities and role, giving impetus to the global cause of independence, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article. The 14th NAM summit marked an epochal occasion of weighty significance in putting the NAM on a new higher stage and increasing the efficiency in its activities and role, the article notes, and goes on:
What is most important for the NAM in smoothly carrying out its mission of the times and role is to invariably remain true to its noble ideal and principle. The basic ideal and principle of the NAM can never change as long as there remain the imperialist and hegemonic forces pursuing domination, intervention, aggression and plunder on earth. Independence against imperialism is a guarantee for the triumphant advance of the NAM.
The unity and solidarity of the NAM is an important matter for the NAM in accomplishing the global cause of independence, keeping and strengthening its existence in the international relations in the present century when the process of multi-polorization is making headway. Only when the NAM goes united, can one say that the NAM represents the South, can NAM expect its voice to be respected and can it demonstrate its might.
The non-aligned countries should firmly unite and solidarize with one another politically, cooperate and exchange with one another economically and technologically on the principle of independence. The only way of achieving independent development and social and economic progress, free from the economic domination and plunder by the imperialists is to expand the south-south cooperation based on the collective self-reliance.
It is important to resolutely reject the double standards applied by the imperialists in the international relations and strictly preserve the principle of equality and impartiality.
If the non-aligned countries fail to pay due attention to the injustice and consequences of the application of double standards in the international relations and collectively reject them, this will allow the imperialists to become more arrogant and upset the international justice and impartiality and gravely threaten peace and security of the world. The number of the NAM member states grew to 118 this time. This proves the attraction of the NAM and its strengthening and development. The ideal and aim of the NAM are just and its prospect is bright. No moves to keep the outdated order of domination and subjugation can block the advance of the NAM toward independence against imperialism.

Kim Jong Suk Remembered

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- Members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Pyongyang had poem recital and singing "Mother Still Lives with Us" at the Women's Hall Friday on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of demise of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. The event began with narration and chorus "Mother Is Alive with Red Flag." Put on the stage were colorful numbers including Oungum ensemble "My Mother," a famous song, trio "Kim Jong Suk, Our Mother," story telling and poem recital "Mother Still Stands on Mt. Paektu" and group singing and story telling "She United People Close around the General."
The performers truthfully represented their ardent yearning and reverence for the woman commander of Mt. Paektu who lives in the hearts of the Korean women and other people for the undying feats she performed on behalf of the country and the people, the times and the revolution.
The audience was deeply impressed by the songs which reminded them of the immortal feats Kim Jong Suk performed by giving birth to leader Kim Jong Il, the bright future of the Korean revolution, amidst the tempest of the revolution, thus giving steady continuity to the revolutionary cause of Juche and putting the Korean women's movement on a new higher stage.

84th Anti-U.S. Solidarity Meeting Held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The 84th anti-U.S. solidarity meeting was reportedly held in south Korea on Sept. 19. Speakers at the meeting recalled that a preliminary meeting of the south Korea-U.S. "annual security consultative council" and the 10th "meeting on security policy initiative" are scheduled to take place in Washington D.C. on Sept. 27 and 28, adding that the meetings would adversely affect the destiny of the Korean nation as they are a starting point for rounding off the discussion on the revamping of the south Korea-U.S. "alliance" which has been under way for the past several years and implementing what has been proposed there.
Urging the present "government" to stop at once boosting the "alliance" with the U.S. in contravention of the June 15 joint declaration but opt for national cooperation, they denounced the forcible removal of dwelling houses for the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek and transfer of the U.S. bomb-dropping range in Maehyang-ri to Jik Islet and declared they would take an active part in the 4th grand march for peace. A protest letter to the U.S. ambassador to south Korea was read out. The letter demanded the U.S. halt the expansion of its military base in Phyongthaek, cancel its project for "strategic flexibility" and abrogate the south Korea-U.S. "mutual defense treaty."

Actions against Expansion of U.S. Military Base Unabated in S. Korea

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean measure committee for checking the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek reportedly called a news conference in Seoul on Sept. 18 at which it made public a declaration in the name of 510 figures of various circles opposing the expansion of the military base. The declaration read out at the conference noted that the expansion of the U.S. military base is not an issue confined to the area of Phyongthaek as it would bring a war to this land. The U.S. forces present in south Korea are being reorganized as a "rapid task force" and south Korea is being reduced to their battle field according to the U.S. scenario for a war of aggression, it deplored.
It is high time all the people turned out in the struggle to avert a war and defend peace, it said, condemning the U.S. for pressurizing the "government" to offer south Korea as its war base and the latter for yielding to it.
The plan for the expansion of the U.S. military base should be totally renegotiated and the agreement on the "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. forces, a threat to the world peace, be repealed, it stressed, calling on all the south Korean people to attend the 4th grand march for peace on Sept. 24 to demonstrate the will of the people from all walks of life to oppose a war and achieve peace.

President of Chinese Movie Company Interviewed by KCNA

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- Zhou Mi, president of the Shanghai Changtian Movie and TV Co., Ltd. who presented documentary "Kim Il Sung and His Mentor Shang Yue" to the 10th Pyongyang International Film Festival, explained the motive and background against which he produced the film, when interviewed by KCNA. The three-part film truthfully portrays the revolutionary sense of obligation and warm humanity possessed by President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il by dealing with the close relationship Kim Il Sung had with Chinese teacher Shang Yue during his revolutionary activities at Jilin Yuwen Middle School.
Zhou said that in his childhood he heard a lot about the august name of the President and his greatness from his father who participated in the Korean war as a member of the Chinese People's Volunteers under the banner of "Resisting America and aiding Korea, protecting the home and defending the motherland." He continued:
Reading the President's reminiscences "With the Century" which comprehensively shows his personality as a great man, I keenly realized how much he set store by the friendship with Chinese revolutionaries of the elder generation like Shang Yue. This was the reason why I decided to produce a film showing the President's comradely sense of obligation and his noble virtue.
I must talk about Kim Jong Il's work "Theory of Cinematic Art" when referring to the process through which I produced the film.
The work serves as most correct guidelines in all my activities to produce not only the above-said documentary but all other films and we made great achievements in this course.
Kim Jong Il is not only the leader of a country but a man who creates and practices arts for the people, I think.
What impressed us most when producing the film was that he has exactly the same personality as a great man as the President had.
Kim Jong Il found out the bereaved families of Shang Yue, saw to it that they visited Korea and were received by the President. He shows fatherly loving care for them even today.
In a word, I was completely fascinated by the noble personalities of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as great men and their warm humanity and this prompted me to make the film, he added.

Adherence to Revolutionary Principle in Standoff with Imperialism Called for

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- All countries and nations aspiring after independence should not stand back even a step but courageously struggle against the imperialists to win a victory in the cause for independence against imperialism. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a by-lined article. It goes on: Any concession in the revolutionary principle means surrender and death. Had some countries which advocated socialism in the past remained true to the revolutionary principle, there would not have been such tragic events as the breakdown of ruling parties, collapse of socialism and the yielding to the imperialists.
What happened in Iraq clearly shows what disastrous consequences are entailed by any act of abandoning the revolutionary principle. The imperialists resort to more vicious and cunning methods in order to invade and plunder other countries and nations. Without a struggle against imperialism, is it impossible to achieve and defend and consolidate the national independence, establish an independent regime and adopt and implement any line and policy in keeping with the desire and will of the people and to ensure the independent development of country and national prosperity. Confrontation with the imperialists is unavoidable unless they abandon their aggressive and predatory nature. So, there will be no other way but to stand firm against them without any concession or retreat. The stronger pressure the imperialists put, the more resolutely each country and nation should meet them, without being frightened or stepping back. Only by doing so, it is possible to win in the standoff with the imperialists. This is immutable truth.
Imperialism is by no means strong. One should never get frightened by the desperate efforts made by the imperialists on the verge of ruin. Victory is always in store for those countries and nations resolutely fighting against imperialism.

All Koreans Called upon to Struggle for Peace

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- It is the unanimous will of all the Koreans to ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieve peaceful reunification of the country, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article. Peace is an issue directly related to the destiny of the Korean nation as it is exposed to the threat of a war by outsiders while undergoing the tragedy of division, the article says, and goes on:
One can hardly find other nations in the world who have been exposed to constant threat of aggression by outsiders for more than a hundred years as is the case with the Korean nation.
The U.S. imperialists' despicable moves to provoke a war of aggression harass security and peace of the country and bar the uniform development of the nation. Consequently, the Korean Peninsula still remains the world's biggest hotspot though the Cold War came to an end worldwide.
The reality goes to clearly prove that a key to ensuring peace and stability of the country and achieving its progress is to foil the U.S. imperialists' moves to provoke a war of aggression.
Peace on the Korean Peninsula is a fundamental precondition for achieving the cause of peaceful reunification of the country.
In order to reunify the country peacefully it is necessary to create the atmosphere of reconciliation and unity between the north and the south despite the fact that they have differing ideologies and systems and discord and confrontation between them have lasted for several decades.
The June 15 North-South Joint Declaration in which the north and the south committed themselves to achieve reunification by pooling efforts of the nation itself is a declaration on peaceful reunification as it opened up a new history of national reconciliation, unity and cooperation.
Without ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula it is impossible to make any progress in the cause of the great national unity and achieve peaceful reunification, much less attaining the sovereignty of the nation and guaranteeing its stability.

Participants in FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship Awarded

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK promulgated a decree on Sept. 20 on awarding title of Labor Hero, "Kim Il Sung Youth Honor Prize" and other honorary titles to young women footballers, coaches and officers concerned who strikingly demonstrated the honor of Songun Korea in the recent FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship. The DPRK team beat its strong rivals in all the matches by waging an ideological battle, fighting spirit battle, speed campaign and technical battle, the Korean way of playing games, thus winning the title of the championship. According to the decree, the titles of Labor Hero and People's Sportsman were awarded to 15 footballers, including Hong Myong Gum of the Amnokgang Sports Group, Kim Song Hui of the Pyongyang City Sports Group, Kim Chun Hui of the Rimyongsu Sports Group and Kim Kyong Hwa of the April 25 Sports Group, and coaches Choe Kwang Sok, Sin Ui Gun and Kim Kyong Ho.
Meanwhile, the title of Labor Hero was conferred upon Ri Song Gun, deputy secretary general of the Football Department of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, it said.
The decree also noted that "Kim Il Sung Youth Honor Prize" and the title of Merited Sportsman went to Ri Jong Sim of the Amnokgang Sports Group and four other footballers and the title of Merited Sportsman to Kim Jong Su, director of the above-said department.

Human Rights Abuses Committed by S. Korean Fascist Dictatorial Regimes

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The anti-communist conspiratorial cases faked up by the successive south Korean fascist dictatorial regimes are the hideous human rights abuses which should be sternly judged by history and the nation. A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland said this in a statement issued on Saturday. It has been fully disclosed in south Korea recently that the "case of the south Korean National Liberation Front" in which heavy penalties were inflicted upon those related to a "spyring case" and the "case of the Association of the Protected" in which the south Korean army and police killed at least 17,700 innocent people including members of the association without trial were "cases" faked up and misused by the military fascist dictators for maintaining their "governments" and staying in power, the statement said, and went on:
The above-said "cases" fully reveal the fascist and treacherous colors of the successive south Korean regimes.
Now the "Grand National Party" grouping descendents of the successive fascist dictatorial regimes are leaving no means untried to conceal all the crimes committed by its predecessor and realize its ambition to come to power again.
The gentries of the GNP hell-bent on the pro-U.S. sycophantic moves and confrontation with the DPRK while branding the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration as "pro-north", "enemy-benefiting" and "pro-communist" are the worst fascist gangsters who have fully inherited the fascist quality of their predecessors. The people from all walks of life in south Korea should turn out in the struggle to force the GNP to pay for all the crimes committed by it as a cancer-like entity opposed to the nation and resolutely bury this treacherous party.
