National Meeting Held to Mark Kim Jong Il's Start of Songun Revolutionary Leadership

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- A national meeting to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of Songun revolutionary leadership was held at the April 25 House of Culture on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Kim Yong Nam, Kim Yong Chun, Kim Il Chol, Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop, Choe Yong Rim, Kim Ki Nam and others.
Vice Marshal of the Korean People's Army Kim Yong Chun, member of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and chief of the KPA General Staff, made a report.
The Korean army and people have held fast to the arms of revolution generation after generation under the Songun leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, illustrious commanders, so that they could win a brilliant victory in the sacred war for independence against imperialism, achieve the independence of the country and the sovereignty of the nation, defend and advance the cause of socialism despite the manifold difficulties and the complicated situation and create the great reality where the independent idea of the popular masses is in full bloom, the reporter said, and went on:
Kim Jong Il started his Songun revolutionary leadership with his historic field guidance to Guard Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105 Tank Division on August 25, Juche 49 (1960), with his firm will to carry forward generation after generation the Juche cause of Songun pioneered by the President. His energetic Songun revolutionary leadership helped perfect the all-people, nationwide defence system and effect fresh renovation and turn in political, economic, cultural and all other fields.
It was a century-old political and military miracle wrought by the great Songun politics that the Korean army and people have defended the banner of independence, the banner of socialism, while countering the ever-more undisguised moves of the U.S. imperialists and the imperialist reactionary forces to stifle the DPRK with a super hard line in the recent ten odd years.
Referring to the tasks facing them, the reporter called on the whole Party and the entire army and all the people to form Songun revolutionary ranks of a harmonious whole sharing idea and intention with Kim Jong Il and consolidate the single-minded unity of the Party, the army and the people rallied close around the headquarters of the revolution in every way.
He also underlined the need to develop national defence industry, thoroughly establish the trait of attaching importance to military affairs in the whole society and steadily carry through the Party's policies of putting all the people under arms and turning the whole country into a fortress.
The situation of the Korean Peninsula, which is growing tense due to the U.S. base and vicious hostile policy toward the DPRK, clearly proves how just it was that we have maintained our firm stand that the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation can be defended only by our own powerful strength and carried through the principles of Songun to bolster up the war deterrent for self-defence, the reporter said, stressing:
All the Korean people will keep a close watchful eyes on the moves of the U.S. and Japan and their satellites to stifle the DPRK, do their utmost to bolster up the war deterrent for self-defence under the revolutionary banner of Songun, unhindered by anything, so as to glorify the ever-victorious history of the Korean revolution that has been carried forward century after century.

S. Korea-U.S. Joint Military Exercises Denounced

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- Alejandro Cao De Benos, chairman of the Association for Friendship with the Korean People which has its headquarters in Spain, made public a statement on August 17, denouncing the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces for staging the "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises again. The statement said:
The joint military drill is a preliminary war exercise for a preemptive attack on the DPRK both in light of its content and nature. It is not compatible with dialogue intended to settle the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula peacefully. Furthermore, it is a grave provocation aimed to disrupt the atmosphere of resuming the six-party talks, check the inter-Korean relations and threaten the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. should not threaten the DPRK militarily but positively approach the dialogue. And the south Korean authorities should discontinue the criminal act of joining the U.S. in its war moves to impose nuclear disaster upon the peninsula and exterminate the Korean nation, going against the June 15 era of independence and reunification.
The statement ardently called upon all the organizations and public figures of the world aspiring after peace to demand the U.S. immediately halt the war exercises and drop its hostile policy towards Korea.

Stop to Joint Military Exercises Demanded

At the press conference, they pointed out that the joint military exercises of the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces are a grave act of driving the situation of the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a war as the exercises are staged under the simulated conditions of invasion of the north.
They declared that they would keep their sit-down strike in front of the "Combined Forces Command" until September 1 in demand of a stop to the aggressive war exercises.
Meanwhile, the National Government Employees' Union issued a statement on August 19, demanding the halt of the joint military exercises.

The "Ulji Focus Lens" is obviously a hostile and offensive drill for a war of aggression aimed at collapse of the system in the north, the statement said, demanding an immediate stop to the dangerous anti-north war exercise which may escalate the tension in the Korean Peninsula. The south Korean army is taking part in the drill in collusion with the U.S., it noted, and said:

U.S. Touted "Spread of Freedom and Democracy" under Fire

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The U.S. touted theory of "spreading freedom and democracy" is nothing but a deceptive slogan for aggression and interference aimed at realizing its ambition for world domination and sophism to justify its undisguised state-sponsored terrorism and human rights abuses, observes Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article. It goes on:
The U.S. much publicized "freedom" and "democracy" mean exercising its unlimited freedom and power whereby it can do anything as it pleases, while ignoring the dignity and rights of other countries and infringing upon the sovereignty of other independent states in defiance of international law and norms governing the international relations.
The U.S. is pressurizing other countries and nations to accept its political mode and lifestyle. This is nothing but an exercise of power to deprive the people of other countries of their rights to choice of ideology and suppress freedom and an act of denying democracy itself.
Its moves to "spread freedom and democracy" are an extension of its "war on terrorism".
The U.S. exported "democracy" to spark such color revolutions as "orange revolution" and "rose revolution" which culminated in the regime changes in some countries.
Much pleased with this development, the U.S. adopted the theory of "spreading freedom and democracy" as a lever for realizing its ambition for world domination with ease without shedding any blood and is now keen to put it into practice.
The U.S. annually spends a billion dollars for its operations to bring down governments in other countries.
It is also escalating its economic pressure and blockade against other countries under the pretext of "spreading freedom and democracy".
Its much vaunted "spread of freedom and democracy" is a link in the chains of its moves for "globalization."
The U.S. is deeply interfering in the internal affairs of other countries in a bid to model all fabrics of social life in those countries such as politics, economy and culture on the American pattern. In a word, the reactionary nature of the U.S. moves to "spread freedom and democracy" lies in that it is aimed at Americanizing the world.
Different regions and countries of the world including Mideast, Central Asia and Africa are made targets of the U.S. moves to "spread freedom and democracy".
It is vital for defending the sovereignty of countries and the dignity of nations and ensuring true democracy to heighten vigilance against the U.S. assertion for "the spread of freedom and democracy" and frustrate it.
It is impossible to defend the destiny of a nation when it is taken in by the U.S. crafty preaching of "democracy", the article concludes.

The last one decade after the publication of the work has been a worthy course in which the validity and vitality of the Party's idea of attaching great importance to the youth have been fully demonstrated and a pattern of the solution of the question of youth in the present times has been created under the great banner of Songun.
The mettle of the youth given full scope in the general march for Songun revolution represents their determination and will to carry forward, pure and clean, and glorify generation after generation the precious tradition and experience attained by the forerunners in their struggle.
This mettle is an eruption of their deep self-respect and pluck to adhere to the class principle to the bitter end on the road of defending and glorifying the socialist motherland of Juche, conscious of its being the best.
Their revolutionary mettle displayed in the general march for Songun revolution is a manifestation of their sense of duty for the times, the consciousness of being pioneers of creation and innovation shaping the future of a great prosperous powerful nation.
Underlying their revolutionary mettle are the pride and confidence in having a great leader.
Kim Jong Il is the great leader of the Korean youth movement and the destiny and future of the Korean youth.

Aphorism Conducive to Raising Consciousness of National Independence

Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il's aphorism says that "Flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces lead to national ruin". The aphorism expounds the profound idea that the ideological consciousness of people has a great influence upon the destiny of a nation. The motive force in shaping the destiny of a nation is the nation itself.
The aphorism gives a serious lesson that when all the members of a nation are armed with the steadfast consciousness of independence and vigorously turn out in the struggle for sovereignty, they can achieve an independent development of their country, and when they are absorbed in flunkeyism and dependence on foreign forces, their country is bound to ruin.
The worship of big powers and dependence on outside forces have a gravely detrimental influence on the existence and development of a nation. The Korean people experienced such heart-rending trouble already in the beginning of the last century.
The aphorism serves as a motto of struggle that the Korean people should keep in the minds under the present grave situation.
In recent years, the United States' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK have been further intensified than ever before.
The anti-reunification forces in south Korea imbued with the idea of worshiping of and submitting to the U.S. are hell bent on "cooperation" with outside forces in pursuance of the latter's policy of aggression against the DPRK.
The grave situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula has been created by the hostile policy of the U.S. toward the DPRK and the acts of the south Korean anti-reunification forces worshiping of and submitting to the U.S.
The aphorism, as a guideline in raising the independent consciousness of the Korean people, is inspiring the whole nation to the cause of independent reunification.
