Kang Pan Sok, Pioneer of Korean Women's Movement

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Seventy-four years have passed since Kang Pan Sok, an indomitable revolutionary fighter and outstanding leader of the Korean women's movement, passed away on July 31, 1932. The Korean people are looking back with deep emotion on the priceless exploits performed by Kang Pan Sok, who pioneered the Korean women's movement and devoted herself to the cause of women's social emancipation.
She was firmly convinced that the way indicated by President Kim Il Sung was the only right one for freeing the Korean women from every manner of exploitation, oppression, subordination and social inequalities. And she took the lead in conducting energetic activities and formed the Anti-Japanese Women's Association, the first revolutionary women's mass organization in Korea, in December Juche 15 (1926).
She was elected the chairperson in accordance with the unanimous will of the association members. Through the association activities, she educated a broad section of women in revolutionary ideas and led them in the struggle for national liberation.
She visited wherever Korean women lived though the roads to the places were far and rugged. She, through night schooling, seminars and short training courses, taught them Korean written language and imbued a high degree of revolutionary and class consciousness in their minds, thus knitting them around the women's association.
Thanks to her correct guidance and energetic activities, the women's association rapidly expanded in the Mt. Paektu area centering around Fusong with a well-arranged organizational system. And it brought up women, who had regarded oppression and maltreatment as their destiny, as ardent patriots and revolutionaries. As a result, the Korean women's movement made a positive contribution to the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle.
The immortal exploits made by her in the struggle for women's emancipation are promoting the strengthening and development of the Korean women's movement in the present stage following the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and the years for the building of a new society.

Rodong Sinmun Lashes at Scheduled "Ulji Focus Lens"

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The scheme of the United States to stage massive "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military drills with the south Korean trigger-happy forces comes under fire in Rodong Sinmun Monday. Castigating the war game as another grave military provocation against the DPRK and an intolerable challenge to all the Koreans desirous of peace and reunification, the analyst goes on: The plan of the U.S. to stage the war rehearsal clearly reveals its adventurous scheme to venture armed aggression on the DPRK and it is little short of a declaration of war.
The U.S. can never evade the responsibility for pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which is getting worse owing to its provocative war maneuvers, to an unpredictable phase.
The participation of south Korea in the U.S.-sponsored "Ulji Focus Lens" joint war game is an unpardonable treacherous crime against the nation in fanning the ambition of the U.S. imperialists for invading the DPRK and driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the verge of war. Such act will only throw a grave obstacle in the way of peace and independent reunification of the country and result in bringing chaotic consequences to the inter-Korean relations.
The U.S. and the south Korean authorities would be well advised to immediately drop the harebrained plan for joint military drills targeted against the DPRK, paying heed to the warning of the latter.

The Korean people have creditably protected the dignity of the country from the pressure and offensive of the imperialist allied forces, pursuant to the Songun politics of Kim Jong Il, faithful successor to the cause of the President.
The cause of the President will be immortal and the friendly relations between the two countries will steadily grow stronger in the future.
At the end of the meeting, the participants enjoyed a performance given by the Pyongyang schoolchildren's art troupe.

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- A seminar took place in Romania and meetings in Switzerland and Pakistan between July 20 and 22 to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. Exhibited at the venues of the functions were famous works of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The President, he added, created the Songun idea, built a solid military foundation firmly guaranteeing the independent policy and turned the DPRK into a powerful socialist country.
Martin Lotscher, chairman of the Swiss Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, addressing the meeting, said the heroic KPA and Korean people could beat back the aggression of the U.S. imperialists and achieve a brilliant victory and they owe this to the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung, the ever-victorious iron-willed commander.
Zabed Ansari, secretary general of the Karachi Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, said at the meeting that the world progressive people are greatly encouraged by the Korean people fighting staunchly on the forefront of the anti-U.S. struggle under the great Songun politics, and expressed the belief that the Korean people would surely emerge victorious in their struggle for global peace and security and the reunification of the country.

Prevention of War Crisis Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) on July 27 reportedly released a special resolution titled "Let us become standard-bearers to frustrate the U.S. moves for a war against the north and defend peace of the Korean Peninsula under the banner of struggle against the U.S. and war and for national cooperation." The resolution said the persistent moves for confrontation with the DPRK on the part of the United States and the south Korean pro-U.S. conservative forces opposed to reunification are driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula to a more grave phase.
Noting that the united strength of the Korean nation is an indispensable prerequisite to the guarantee of peace on the Korean Peninsula, the resolution went on:
It is a lesson left behind by history that submission to outside forces and flunkeyism invite woeful calamities and national ruin.
The present situation in which the Korean nation and the U.S. are standing in confrontation with each other is, in fact, a phase of war without gun report.
The government should pursue national cooperation, not cooperation with the U.S. and Japan.
The South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon declares an all-out struggle against the U.S. under the banner of struggle against the U.S. and war and for national cooperation to put an end to the war crisis and defend peace on the Korean Peninsula.
We will wage an all-out struggle to stave off the war crisis on the Korean Peninsula by pulling the strength of the whole nation against the U.S.

Immediate Withdrawal of Hostile Policy toward DPRK Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The Anti-U.S. Youth League in south Korea reportedly made public a statement under the title "The U.S., immediately stop hostile policy toward the north" on July 27. The increasing tensions on the Korean Peninsula are entirely attributable to the U.S. hostile policy toward the north, the statement said.
It demanded Japan stop getting more frantic in its sanctions against the north, pursuant to the U.S., and working hard to emerge a military power.
Noting that the sanctions of the U.S. and Japan against the north have reached a more reckless stage and the Korean Peninsula is in the grip of a serious war crisis, the statement continued:
None of the 70 million fellow countrymen wants to see a war crisis on the peninsula to mount as they desire peace.
They will foil the U.S. and Japan's hostile moves against the north through their concerted efforts.
Let us bring about independence and peace, firmly rallied in the spirit of "By our nation itself".
The U.S. and Japan should immediately roll back their hostile policy toward the north.

Women's Company, First of Its Kind in Korea

Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Sixty years have passed since the promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Korean people take this opportunity to recollect with deep emotion the women revolutionaries who devoted themselves to the revolution for the emancipation of the women.
Among them were members of the women's company of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) who fought sanguinary battles against the Japanese imperialists with arms in their hands in the van of the anti-Japanese revolution.
The birth of the women's company was formally announced in a forest near Manjiang in April Juche 25 (1936).
The birth of the company broke the convention of male supremacy, a social evil, which had been considered incurable for thousands of years, and put women's social positions on a par with those of men.
All the soldiers of the women's company performed unforgettable distinguished military services by displaying bravery and perseverance which were not inferior to men in battles.
In 1936, they raided the garrison troops of the puppet Manchukuo army and captured a large amount of trophies including tens of small arms in Xinancha of Fusong County.
Prisoners were amazed at the news that they were raided and captured by women guerrillas.
A woman guerrilla beat down a sentry of the enemy with her fist at one stroke to spare a bullet in Daying battle and three women guerrillas cut off the guard telephone line each at one shot in moonlight night in the Donggang battle.
Besides, they enjoyed warm love from the comrades-in-arms and people as competent political underground worker and tender-hearted mother and sister of the guerrilla unit.
They danced, sang and spoke before the people and taught them written language.
Indeed, the women's company was the pride and flower of the KPRA.
President Kim Il Sung, in his reminiscences "With the Century", writes that the women soldiers are paragons of modern Korean women, as well as heroines who can be held in high esteem as typical of the struggle for the emancipation of humanity.
