KCNA Blasts Rice's Outcry

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Rice, when interviewed by Asian reporters on July 22, uttered that north Korea is such an irresponsible and dangerous country as refusing to issue an advance notice about its missile launches to different directions and openly claiming that it has nuclear strike capability. Obviously, Rice made such outcry in a bid to justify the U.S. hostile policy to pressurize the DPRK with the ministerial meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum at hand and draw regional countries into its pressure campaign.
Her remarks are nothing but a sheer distortion of the reality which can convince no one. They only betray her political ignorance because her remarks are so naive that one can hardly interpret them as the words uttered by the diplomatic chief of a country.
The Bush administration sparked a new global nuclear arms race and a vicious cycle of terrorism under the pretext of "anti-terrorism" after deliberately listing legitimate sovereign states as an "axis of evil" and openly threatening to mount "preemptive nuclear attacks" on them. We would like to ask Rice if there is any other country more dangerous and irresponsible than the U.S. administration.
The Bush administration is made up of the worst gangsters in the world because it adopted it as its state policy to perpetrate wars and genocide after dividing the world into "good and evil", refusing to face up to the trend of history towards peace and security, and does not hesitate to commit invasion against other countries and kill guiltless civilians in order to meet its selfish political purpose.
It was none other than Rice who let loose a spate of such piffles over the launch of a few missiles as part of military training to cope with the U.S. reckless moves for aggression and war. This cannot be construed otherwise than an outburst made by a political imbecile.
The DPRK launched missiles only after airspace, land and waters of the sea had been confirmed to be completely safe from them. Their launches, therefore, hurt neither ships nor civilian planes nor anyone. This fact was admitted even by the neighboring countries.
The United States now technically at war with the DPRK had been kicking up a war atmosphere for a month in collusion with Japan, threatening to intercept any missile to be launched. Had the DPRK announced its plan for missile launches in advance as demanded by Rice, an extremely grave situation would have been created in the Asia-Pacific.
It is not hard to guess what kind of foreign policy is followed by the Bush administration whose secretary of State is free to make such reckless remarks.

Events of Solidarity with Korean People Held Abroad

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- A lecture, a photo exhibition and a film show were held under the sponsorship of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party and the South African Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People and a meeting of solidarity with the Korean people under the sponsorship of the Society for the Promotion of the Relations between Austria and the DPRK and the Austrian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification on July 15 and 16 on the occasion of the month (June 25-July 27) of anti-U.S. joint struggle. On display at the photo exhibition were photos showing Songun leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il and the might of the heroic Korean People's Army.
Moshabi Umtrala, vice-secretary of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party, in a lecture titled "Heroic Korean people who defeated the U.S. imperialists for the first time in history" said that the historic victory of the DPRK in the Fatherland Liberation War was the fruition of the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung, invincible and iron-willed commander, and the heroic struggle of its army and people closely united around him. Noting that the U.S. is resorting to the moves to stifle the DPRK instead of drawing lessons from its defeat in the Korean War in the 1950s, he stressed that under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean People's Army has been prepared to destroy any provocative moves of the U.S. at one blow.
Adolf Pilz, chairman of the Society for the Promotion of the Relations between Austria and the DPRK, in a speech expressed his resolution to more activate the movement for supporting the Korean people in their efforts to force the U.S. troops out of south Korea and achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
At the film show Korean film "The Korean People's Army, Steel-like Ranks" was screened.

Withdrawal of "NSL" Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- Members of the Central Committee of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) have been staging a demo one by one calling for the withdrawal of the "National Security Law" (NSL) in front of the building of the Ministry of Justice in Seoul since July 18, according to a news report. The chairman for national reunification of Hanchongryon was the first to demonstrate.
He lashed out at the "government" for harshly cracking down upon the movement of youths and students for reunification on the charge of the violation of the evil law, staging a demo with a placard reading "No NSL, a leftover of the old times, suppressing the patriotic movement of youths and students for reunification" and "Lift labeling of Hanchongryon an organization benefiting enemy, an act of going against the era of reunification, the era of June 15 joint declaration".
He strongly demanded the repeal of the evil law dating back to the old times and the lifting of the labeling of Hanchongryon an enemy-benefiting organization.

U.S. High-handed Practices at UN Meeting on Smaller Weapons under Fire

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- Commenting on a recent UN smaller weapons review meeting which closed without any fruit, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Monday ascribes this to the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the United States. The meeting failed to adopt a final document due to the U.S. obstruction, he notes, and goes on:
The result of the meeting clearly proves once again that it is none other than the U.S. which wrecks global peace and security, resorting to high-handed and arbitrary practices.
At the meeting the U.S. categorically opposed an international measure to close the channels of illegal arms dealing, thus standing naked under the world's eyes once again as the very one fostering all manner of terrorism and causing political instability of countries.
Recalling that the U.S. hands over quantities of weapons of all types to dissidents and illegal organizations of different countries every year and encourages them to violent actions, the analyst continues:
The U.S. outcries for "the prevention of the spread of weapons" and "peace" are nothing but a deceptive trick to cover up its own criminal colors. Lurking behind its much touted slogans of "peace", "security" and "anti-terrorism" is its design of aggression. The U.S. is a hideous wrecker of peace which pushes the world into instability through high-handed and arbitrary practices. The U.S. imperialists should stop its criminal acts of harassing world stability and peace under the veil of "anti-terrorism" and "defence of peace."

Face-lifting Project of Taedong River Bank Progresses Apace

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- Much work has been done in the project for rearranging 2.6 km-long bank of the River Taedong from the Pyongyang Grand Theater to the foot of Moran Hill since its start on July 5. A thousand and hundreds-meter-long roadbed project between the Taedong Bridge and the Taedong Gate, which is the main in the facelifting project, has been carried out at the stage of 80 percent as of July 20.
A 2,160-meter concrete floodwall and 17 flood-gates in Pyongyang have been removed in the main, giving way to a new 5-meter wide road.
Meanwhile, promenades, 1,000-meter-long stone parapet and gardens are being come into shape.
The promenade from the Pyongyang Grand Theater to the Taedong Bridge has already been laid so as to pave it with color blocks.
Sooner or later, the banks of the River Taedong will produce a beautiful landscape in harmony with Kim Il Sung Square, the Grand People's Study House and the Okryu Restaurant.

"RIMPAC", Multi-national War Gamble against DPRK

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- The "RIMPAC-2006" joint military exercise has been going on in the Pacific from June 25 in defiance of strong opposition in Korea and abroad. The mass media of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea comes out with commentaries and articles branding the "RIMPAC", into which a huge amount of latest war means are hurled, as a dangerous multi-national war exercise against the north that accords with the adventurous nuclear preemptive attack strategy of the U.S. imperialists.
Rodong Sinmun condemns the warhawks of the south Korean military as traitors to the nation. They have mobilized huge armed forces to the provocative war gamble against the fellow countrymen and are engrossed in war provocations with arms given by foreign forces. The paper warns that the whole nation will never pardon such renegades of the June 15 joint declaration.
South Korean organizations including the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) and the Solidarity for Implementation of the South-North Joint Declaration in their statements note that the "RIMPAC" is the most provocative and dangerous war exercise against the north in the light of its scale and period. The U.S. which incites only confrontation and war is the chieftain of war crisis.
Overseas Koreans also strongly demand that the war exercise be given up.
The United Confederation of Koreans in the Far Eastern Region of the Russian Federation sent a letter to Bush, the head of U.S.warhawks. It demands that the United States give up anachronistic wild dream to hold in check the independent reunification and prosperity of the Korean nation while deliberately aggravating the DPRK-U.S. relations, branding the joint military exercise as a grave provocation against the DPRK.
The international community is also joining the Koreans in denouncing the exercise. The British Association for the Study of the Songun Policy, the British Friendship Society with Korea and the British Branch of Association for Friendship with the Korean People issued a joint statement, calling upon the world progressive people to oppose the war exercise of the U.S. imperialists and its followers and firmly unite for supporting the socialist Korea.

Assaults on Korean Students in Japan Flailed

Pyongyang, July 24 (KCNA) -- We bitterly denounce with towering national resentment the criminal terrorism openly committed against Koreans in Japan, regarding it as a hostile provocation against the DPRK and the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and an intolerable insult to the Korean nation, declares Rodong Sinmun Monday. Commenting on the threats and assaults committed in an unbroken chain against Korean students in Japan these days, the analyst says:
Such incidents that occurred in a few days of mid-July alone number more than 110.
The Japanese authorities are under international duty and legal and moral obligations to fully ensure and protect the democratic national rights and personal safety of the Koreans in Japan, victims to aggression and war policy, and their children, with a sense of responsibility. They can never evade this in any case. Nevertheless, national discrimination and violence against Koreans in Japan are committed without hesitation still today. We can never remain an onlooker to this.
The threats and assaults on Korean students committed without letup nowadays in Japan are not mere crimes of a few gangsters. They are crimes committed on the extension line of the Japanese reactionaries' moves to stage a comeback to Korea and under their hostile policy against the DPRK and Chongryon.
The DPRK has already warned the Japanese authorities that the encroachment upon the national rights and vital rights of the Koreans in Japan is immediately an infringement upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and made it plain that they will have to pay a dear price.
The Japanese authorities would be well advised to look straight into the seriousness of the matter and take an urgent measure to prevent the recurrence of hostile acts against Chongryon and the Koreans in Japan, concludes the commentary.
