U.S. Nuclear-Powered Carrier Flotilla Enters Pusan Port

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- A U.S. nuclear-powered carrier flotilla consisting of Enterprise, Aegis destroyer, cruiser, submarine, etc. entered Pusan port of south Korea on July 18, according to press reports. The flotilla has been involved in the large-scale RIMPAC-2006 joint military exercises simulating a war of aggression against the DPRK. This portcall is stirring up the deep concern of the public at home and abroad as it fully revealed the intention of the U.S. imperialists to further strain the situation on the Korean Peninsula and thus realize their ambition to start a nuclear war.

Rodong Sinmun on Self-reliant Defense Capacity

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- Self-reliant defense capabilities are the best means of defending sovereignty of the country and the nation from the strong arm and arbitrariness of the imperialist aggressor forces, declares Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Friday, which reads in part: The countries and peoples treasuring the dignity of the nation and the sovereignty of the country, small countries in particular, should direct great efforts to increasing defense capabilities.
The practical experience of the DPRK tells that the sovereignty of the country can be defended and the dignity and honor of the nation be exalted only when importance is attached to military affairs and defense capabilities are augmented. The Korean people are proud of the fact that they have bolstered self-reliant defense capacity on the principle of giving priority to military affairs, tightening their belts in the past period. No other country but the DPRK has firmly defended socialism in face of constant high-handed military blackmail and aggressive threat by the U.S. imperialists for decades. The U.S. imperialists would have already attacked the DPRK many a time, if it had not built up colossal self-reliant defense capacity. It was entirely right for the DPRK to have boosted its self-reliant defense capabilities in every way.
No one can take issue with the DPRK over its defense building for smashing down the moves of the U.S. imperialists to unleash another Korean war and ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia as it is a legitimate exercise of the right to self-defense.
The peace-loving and progressive people worldwide should fight relentlessly to ensure world peace and security by offering a tough rebuff with military might to the reckless military highhandedness of the imperialists.

The message expressed the belief that the aftermath of the natural disasters would be healed as early as possible and the living of the residents in the afflicted-area would be stabilized by the efforts of the president and the Indonesian government.

DPRK to Strongly React to U.S. Moves for War against it with Deterrent for Self-Defence

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- The United States urgently hurled a group of battleships including the nuclear-powered carrier "Enterprise" into south Korea and the commander of the U.S. forces in south Korea vociferously cried out for a war of aggression against the DPRK at a time when the U.S. is escalating its "sanctions" against the DPRK under an absurd pretext. In this connection a spokesman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in a statement issued Friday said: This is an extremely dangerous military provocation intended to drive the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war. The statement went on:
South Korea and its vicinity are now crowded with huge U.S. aggressor forces keen to make a military strike at the DPRK and stifle it.
Large-scale madcap joint naval and air force maneuvers targeted against the DPRK are now being staged by forces of the U.S. and its allies in the waters of the Pacific and Alaska.
The reality goes to prove that the U.S. is driving the situation on the peninsula to such a dangerous phase that the second Korean war may break out any moment. The army and people of the DPRK will strongly react to the dangerous moves of the U.S. and its allies for a war of aggression against it with its deterrent for self-defence built up under the banner of Songun.
The statement strongly demanded the U.S. stop such criminal war moves at once. It called upon the south Korean people to heighten vigilance against the prevailing dangerous situation and dynamically turn out in the struggle against the U.S. and war.

The appeal said that the U.S. and south Korean anti-reunification forces are all the more undisguised in their moves to keep the Korean nation divided at a time when its desire to achieve independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity is mounting under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
The reality prevailing on the Korean Peninsula requires the Korean nation to stage a vigorous patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity under the banner of "By our nation itself," the appeal said. It called upon Hanchongryon to become vanguard of reunification and display stubbornness and ability.

Diamond Jubilee of DFRF Observed

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- A meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland (DFRF) was held at the People's Palace of Culture here Friday. Present there were President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong Nam who is member of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Ki Nam and Kim Jung Rin, secretaries of the C.C., WPK, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Kim Yong Dae, chairman of the C.C., the Korean Social Democratic Party, Ryu Mi Yong, chairperson of the C.C., the Korean Chondoist Chongu Party, O Ik Je, vice-chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, Ryo Won Gu and Kang Ryon Hak, Presidium members of the C.C., DFRF, Kim Wan Su, director of the Secretariat of the C.C., DFRF, and permanent members and members of the C.C., DFRF, leading officials of the public organizations, ministries and national institutions, former unconverted long-term prisoners who are pro-reunification patriotic fighters and working people from all walks of life in the city. Kim Ki Nam in a report said:
President Kim Il Sung, with a deep insight into the situation at home and abroad and the requirement of the reality to form a united front of the nation, took the initiative of forming a permanent united front body grouping political parties and public organizations. He also saw to it that a meeting of representatives of the democratic political parties and social organizations in north Korea was convened in Pyongyang on July 22, Juche 35 (1946) and the Democratic National United Front, the first united front body after the liberation of the country, was formed at the meeting. After the founding of the republic he made sure that the DFRF, an umbrella organization of all patriotic people, was formed at its inaugural meeting held with an attendance of representatives of at least 70 progressive political parties and social organizations in the north and the south and abroad in June 1949 as part of the measures to pull through the difficulties created in the country and actively pave the way for the nation to follow by its concerted efforts.
The formation of the DFRF was a historic event of weighty significance in the Korean people's struggle to build a new society and achieve national reunification as it was a shining fruition of the idea of the great national unity and the line of united front set out by the President during the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and consistently maintained by him thereafter.
In particular, the "10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country" made public by the President in the last period of his life is the most brilliant exploit he performed in the accomplishment of the cause of the united front as it is a great political programme for the Korean nation to hold fast to in the struggle to achieve the unity of the nation and national reunification. The President's idea of great national unity and his undying feats of leadership over the united front have been carried forward by Kim Jong Il's distinguished and seasoned leadership on a new high level.
Kim Jong Il provided the historic north-south summit in June 2000 when the desire of the Korean nation for reunification was growing stronger at the turn of the century and made public the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration whose main idea is "By our nation itself." This is a great contribution to the accomplishment of the historical cause of great national unity and reunification.
The reporter called for carrying through the 10-point programme, a library and guideline of great national unity, and the five-point policy of great national unity which opened a new phase for the development of the inter-Korean relations in order to achieve great national unity and form a united front of the whole nation.
