Apology and Compensation from U.S. Demanded

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the North Headquarters of the Nationwide Special Committee for Probing the Truth behind the GIs' Massacres issued a statement Saturday in connection with the recent disclosure of a letter written by the U.S. ambassador in Seoul during the last Korean war, which sparked off a great sensation at home and abroad. The letter contained the fact that the U.S. directly ordered GIs to kill civilians during the war. The statement said:
The U.S. is obliged to stand trial for its organized massacres of Koreans. But it is trying to evade its responsibility even today when its crimes were brought to light. It is working hard to provoke another war of aggression against the DPRK to reduce the Korean Peninsula to a battle-field of a nuclear war and exterminate the Korean nation.
This is an open insult and intolerable challenge to the Korean nation who has not yet vented their pent-up spite on the U.S. imperialist man-slaughters.
All Koreans should turn out in a just struggle to make the U.S. pay for the misfortune, disaster and sacrifice inflicted upon their fellow countrymen with the dignity and honor of the nation.
The south Koreans from all walks of life should wage a vigorous anti-U.S. struggle to get the U.S. to apologize and compensate thousand-fold for its crimes and to withdraw the U.S. imperialist aggression troops, root cause of misfortune and pain and war, from south Korea.
They should also wage a staunch struggle to ostracize the pro-American "Grand National Party" which is following the U.S. to bring war and destruction to the Korean nation.

Probe into Truth behind Massacre in Rogun-ri Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- South Korean people of different circles have reportedly urged a probe into the truth behind the massacre of civilians in Rogun-ri committed by GIs during the last Korean war and damages. On May 29 a U.S. medium opened to the public the data proving that the massacre was ordered by the U.S. government.
The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration said in a statement on May 30 that the disclosed data prove that the massacre was a elaborately premeditated and organized crime. The U.S. should adequately apologize and compensate for it, the statement urged.
On the same day the Measure Committee for Unveiling Truth about the Rogun-ri Massacre and the Democratic Workers' Party of south Korea made public statements to denounce the massacre as a elaborately premeditated and organized crime.
The statements stressed that the south Korean government should put forward a clear proposal for settling the incident, a human rights issue related to national self-respect.

57th Rally for Peace and Disarmament Held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and other civic and social organizations in south Korea reportedly held the 57th rally for peace and disarmament in front of the building of the Defence Ministry on May 30 to denounce the moves of the military authorities to increase the "budget for national defence". Speakers said that it is an act of deceiving the people for the Defence Ministry to drastically increase the defence budget for 2007 under the pretext of allegedly increasing the military capability according to the plan for cooperative and independent national defence. In case the ministry purchases ultra-modern weapons with the increased budget, this will deepen south Korea's military subordination to the U.S., they said.
A written protest to the ministry was read out at the rally, which asserted that the ministry and the Planning and Budgetary Agency should stop the closed-door debate on defence budget.

KCNA on Changes in Area of Mt. Paektu

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- Five decades have passed since leader Kim Jong Il started the study tour of revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu. The first study tour of the area organized by him in June Juche 45 (1956) was a great action which solemnly declared before the era his firm faith and will to defend and glorify forever the revolutionary traditions established by President Kim Il Sung and a historic event of weighty significance in keeping the continuity of the Korean revolution started in Paektu forests.
Kim Jong Il has since worked heart and soul to turn Ryanggang Province into a grand seat of education in the revolutionary traditions.
He visited the province on nearly 40 occasions in last five decades.
He visited the Monument to the Victorious Battle of Pochonbo 10 times from July Juche 57 (1968) to Juche 61 (1972).
He opened the course for "250-mile journey for learning" while giving on-the-spot guidance to the province in July Juche 57 (1968), and published his famous work "Let Us Build Up This Revolutionary Battle Site" to give guidelines that should be maintained in building up the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu.
When visiting Lake Samji on July 4, Juche 65 (1976) he located the site of the statue of Kim Il Sung and clarified the orientation and way of building a grand monument. And he gave teachings over 200 times in all to guide in detail its building from its formation and design to structure, representation and construction.
His on-the-spot guidance to the work of the revolutionary battle sites in the area in March Juche 89 (2000) marked an epochal turning point in sprucing up the area as a holy land of revolution.
Great changes have been made in building up the area for five decades.
Many revolutionary battle sites and historic sites were discovered in the 1960s and 1970s, starting in Juche 47 (1958).
In the latter of the 1980s the secret camp of Mt. Paektu was found in Sobaeksu Valley and restored to its original state. This was an auspicious event of special significance in carrying forward the revolutionary traditions.
In the days of researching and discovering the revolutionary historic materials at least 1,100 pieces of revolutionary relics including Kim Il Sung's celebrated work "The Ten-Point Programme of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland", an original material in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, were collected, 230 revolutionary historic buildings ascertained and more than 360 trees bearing revolutionary slogans found.
A brisk drive was conducted to build up revolutionary battle sites and historic sites in the area of Mt. Paektu in step with the rapid progress in the work of discovering and ascertaining the revolutionary relics.
A statue of Kim Il Sung was erected in the Pochonbo revolutionary battle site in November Juche 73 (1984). And his statues and statues of Kim Jong Suk, woman general of Mt. Paektu, were built in Phophyong, Sinpha and other areas to suit the revolutionary historic content there and monuments to autographic ode and propositions of Kim Il Sung in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu, more than 360 monuments in revolutionary battle sites and historic sites.
The work of preserving the revolutionary relics has been improved to meet realistic conditions.
Paektu House has been built in the area of Mt. Paektu so as to contribute to the education in revolutionary traditions. Fine granite stairs down to Lake Chon of Mt. Paektu for expeditionary groups were built and a pavement road to the top of the mountain made with 437,500 stones. Other roads to revolutionary battle sites and historic sites have been built.
More than 63.5 million people of all strata visited the revolutionary battle sites and historic sites of the area in last five decades.
At least 210,000 Koreans overseas and more than 120,000 foreigners visited them.

U.S. Urged to Admit Its Organized Massacre of Civilians

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The United States should no longer try to shirk off its responsibility for the organized massacre of civilians committed during the last Korean war since the crime was verified by a recently declassified letter of the then U.S. ambassador, but admit it and apologize to the Korean nation and withdraw its forces from south Korea, says Minju Joson Sunday in a signed commentary. Referring to the fact that the U.S. has so far shirked off its responsibility for the well-known massacre in Rogun-ri, far from admitting and apologizing for it, the commentary denounces the U.S. troops as a group of man-slaughters that deliberately massacred innocent civilians.
The U.S. is conducting war exercises against the north almost everyday in a bid to provoke a new war, a nuclear war in the Korean Peninsula while pushing forward the redeployment of its forces far from withdrawing them from south Korea, the commentary says, and goes on:
It is as clear as noonday that the south Koreans will be cruelly killed by the U.S. military ogres just as during the last war and all the Koreans will suffer nuclear holocaust unless they put an end to the U.S. occupation of south Korea and check its new war provocation moves. The nationwide anti-U.S. struggle of the Korean nation is for preventing such incident beforehand. Anyone who truly loves the country and the nation is turning out in the struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces.
The clan of the "Grand National Party" serving the U.S. for its existence is dead set against the U.S. forces' withdrawal, while chiming in with the U.S. moves to provoke a new war. Therefore, it is imperative to disband the GNP, a group of traitors, so as to force the U.S. military ogres to pay for the blood shed by the innocent Koreans and prevent a nuclear war.

Rodong Sinmun on Progressive Character and Advantages of Socialism

Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The imperialists and their spokesmen are describing socialism as "totalitarianism" but can never defile the progressive character and advantages of socialism with any smear propaganda. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
Originally, totalitarianism had been used as a political idea by the fascist dictators, the article says, and goes on:
Criticizing as "totalitarianism" socialism under which popular masses are masters of everything is a preposterous sophism considering the most progressive idea reflecting the demand of the popular masses to be identical to the reactionary idea of the fascist ruling quarters.
The interests of monopoly capitalists whose intrinsic nature is exploitation and domination are not compatible with those of all people. Large-scale state machinery and suppression networks of capitalist society serve the interests of monopoly capitalists, the ruling class, and ruling bureaucrats and encroach on the interests of the overwhelming majority of working people. Under this bourgeois state system the capitalist class exploits, plunders and suppresses people mercilessly.
Everything is defined by money and power in capitalist society. Accordingly, the capitalist class behaves arbitrarily with their large money and unlimited state power while the popular masses are reduced to slaveries of capital and forced to lead a miserable life. The U.S. reactionary ruling quarters do not miss every opportunity to talk about "welfare of all people", "equality of all people" and "respect for human rights" in a bid to distort and fabricate the truth.
It is the supreme principle of the party and state activities to work for the promotion of the people's welfare in our socialist society where the principle of collectivism "One for all and all for one" prevails. The state is entirely responsible for the destiny of the people and looks after them.
It is the ideal of humankind to lead an independent and happy life in a peaceful world free from exploitation and oppression, domination and subordination, aggression and war. It is the socialist idea to embody this common demand and desire of humankind. The human ideal and desire cannot be changed and, accordingly, the idea of socialism embodying them cannot be changed.

Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in a report said that Kim Jong Il's start of study tour of the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu in June Juche 45 (1956) was a historic event of epochal significance in carrying forward the pure tradition of the Korean revolution started on Mt. Paektu and advancing the socialist cause of the Korean people along the road of Juche.
    He went on to say:
The opening of the excursion route to the revolutionary battle sites in Mt. Paektu area provided a landmark for resolutely defending and carrying forward the glorious revolutionary traditions of the WPK established by President Kim Il Sung and guaranteeing the victorious advance of the Korean revolution.
As Kim Jong Il opened up the excursion route, looking far into the future of the Korean revolution, the excursion along this route to the revolutionary battle sites centering on Mt. Paektu was briskly conducted with the attention of the whole party and the society. The Korean people and the rising generations have come to cherish the unshakable faith and indomitable will to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche to the end, while making a study tour of the revolutionary battle sites of Mt. Paektu.
Thanks to the revolutionary traditions whose great attraction and vitality have been proven in the practice of the protracted Korean revolution, the Korean army and people could win one victory after another in the war to defend socialism, single-mindedly united around the headquarters of the revolution despite the grim and acute environment that prevailed the Korean revolution in the 1990s and pave the way for the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, breaking through manifold difficulties and hardships with faith in sure victory and indomitable will.
Thanks to Kim Jong Il's far-reaching plan and energetic leadership the revolutionary battle-fields and historic sites in the area of Mt. Paektu have been spruced up majestically and flawlessly as a center for the education on the revolutionary traditions. The area including Samjiyon Township has undergone changes beyond recognition and witnessed the fairyland of socialism, a miracle of history.
We should hold Kim Il Sung in high esteem forever as the eternal leader of our party and revolution and the sun of Juche and defend and glorify his idea and revolutionary exploits for all ages.
We should repose absolute trust in Kim Jong Il, destiny of the country and the nation and symbol of victory, and uphold his Songun idea and leadership with loyalty.
We should wage an unflinching struggle under the uplifted banner of Songun to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, reunify the country and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche.

S. Korea to Introduce More U.S.-made Fighter Bombers

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Ministry of Defence decided to introduce 20 more F-15K fighter bombers from the U.S., according to the south Korean Yonhap News. A U.S. medium reported about this fact on May 28.
The south Korean military authorities at the "Committee for Promotion of Defence Work" held on May 17 agreed to introduce additional 20 U.S. F-15K fighter bombers from 2009 except 40 planned by 2008.
The Yonhap News said that this fighter-bomber can load 11 tons of bombs and ammunition including direct hit shells for precision attack, air-to-ground missiles to attack the underground fortress of the north.

U.S. Brigandish Threat Disclosed

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- At the 37th south Korea-U.S. annual security consultative meeting held in Seoul in October last the U.S. threatened the south Korean "government" that it would withdraw its air force from south Korea unless conditions for its forces' exercises are provided, according to a news report. This fact was disclosed in "major pending data of national defence" opened to the public by the south Korean Ministry of Defence on May 29.
According to it, the U.S. at the meeting requested the south Korean side to expand the training ground, saying that "the exercises of the U.S. 7th air force rapidly dwindled after the closure of the firing range in Maehyang-ri and it is apprehensive about the decrease of pilots' skill and morale.
The U.S. also demanded the installation of automatic marking equipment at the Jik Islet firing range in the sea off Kunsan, complaining that it cannot recognize the range without such equipment. And it forced the increase of the time of using the firing range on the part of its troops. It threatened that it would move its 7th air force to other region unless such conditions are provided.
Yielding to the U.S. threat, the south Korean "government" is busy taking a measure for the U.S. air force to make a flexible use of the firing range in Jik Islet and seeking to install automatic marking equipment costing 2.8 billion won by the end of August.

Unwarranted Measure against Internet in S. Korea Flailed

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- The south Korean joint measure committee for the abolition of the system which calls for using one's real name as regards elections grouping eight Internet mediapersons associations and more than 140 civic and public organizations held a press conference in Seoul on May 30 at which it denounced the "government's" unfair measure taken against the Internet media, according to a news report. The chief editor of the Internet Broadcasting Voice of People and other speakers blasted the recent decision made by the "government" to enforce the above-said system against Internet users with the "local elections" as a momentum. They described this as an evil law like the "National Security Law" violating the freedom of expression and human rights of Internet users.
Nothing can suppress the Internet users' freedom of speech, they declared, branding the "government's" measure to establish the system as a short-sighted one.
A joint statement released at the press conference demanded the "government" provide the people with the freedom of expression and immediately stop pushing forward the system.

Rodong Sinmun on Local Election Results in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 3 (KCNA) -- The "elections to the local self-governing bodies" held in south Korea on May 31 proved that any force is bound to be forsaken by the people if it betrays them by pursuing unpopular policies, observes Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed commentary. The commentary says:
The present south Korean rulers betrayed the people's interests while calling for "reforms." They even tried to defame the June 15 joint declaration through the unreasonable "special investigation into the mail of money to the north", etc. The south Koreans issued a deserved warning to such rulers at the elections.
For the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration the election results may serve as a good springboard from which to make a fresh start for carving out a bright future.
The election returns, however, do not give the "Grand National Party" any reason to be upbeat. The GNP is the most unpopular and traitorous party in south Korea. This party proved successful only by fishing in the troubled waters.
The election results, in the final analysis, mean the victory of the south Koreans, not one won by such charlatans as GNP group. The south Korean ultra-right conservative forces should not misjudge the situation but stop running wild.
The peace-loving progressive forces in south Korea should make a fresh start, drawing a lesson from the stern judgment made by the people this time. They should defend the June 15 joint declaration and keep advancing the era of "By our nation itself" through their concerted efforts.
