Head of DPRK Delegation on Tasks before NAM

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is required to intensify its activities to actively meet fresh challenges and cope with new changes. Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Su Hon who is heading the DPRK delegation said this, clarifying the DPRK's stand on the matter at the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the NAM on May 30.
The DPRK government has consistently maintained the unshakable stand to remain true to the fundamental principle and idea of the NAM, he noted, and continued:
The DPRK delegation is of the view that the current meeting should pay particular attention to the following issues that should be solved to define the orientation of the movement for meeting new challenges and boost its capability for actions:
First, the movement should further strengthen unity and solidarity in the struggle to protect the sovereignty of its member states.
To strengthen the unity and solidarity among the member states of the movement presents itself as a more urgent issue today when some forces are posing a grave threat to the sovereignty of member states by perpetrating invasion and interference in their internal affairs and enforcing a unilateral high-handed policy towards them in contravention of the principles of the movement and international law.
The member states of the NAM should intensify the joint actions to ensure that the principle of respect for sovereignty in handling major pending international issues such as disarmament, human rights, anti-terrorism and UN reform is fully observed.
Second, the NAM is required to pay a deep attention to categorically rejecting the double standards in the international relations at present and ensuring that the principle of equality and impartiality is observed.
The U.S. is openly pursuing a double-dealing discriminative policy, while shunning the fulfillment of its commitment to nuclear disarmament under international law and working hard to deter other countries from conducting nuclear activities for a peaceful purpose. It has gone the lengths of openly threatening them with preemptive nuclear strikes.
These high-handed practices of the U.S. are rendering the international nuclear non-proliferation regime including the NPT useless and encouraging the non-nuclear states to have access to nuclear deterrent for self-defence.
The NAM is called upon to heighten caution against the adverse consequences of the use of these dangerous double standards in the international relations and take united actions against it.
Third, efforts should be exerted to strengthen the NAM and reenergize its activities in the direction of remaining true to its objective and idea and reinforcing the unity and solidarity among its member states.
No matter how complicated the situation may get they should seek better ways of advancing the movement in the direction of upholding the fundamental idea and principle and boosting the unity and solidarity among them.
In this context we deem it important to adhere to the principle of carrying forward and developing the traditional work method whereby the NAM has displayed its vitality and united might over the last several decades thanks to the efforts of the member states to improve the method.

They went on to say:
He was the first in history to explore the road of the above-said study tour and in this course created peculiar educational forms and methods of teaching the visitors the revolutionary traditions. He, at the same time, provided a sure guarantee for turning the area of Mt. Paektu into a center for the education in the revolutionary traditions.
The path of study tour explored by Kim Jong Il meant a road to great inheritance as it demonstrated his unshakable faith to give steady continuity to the march to Mt. Paektu President Kim Il Sung staged while making a long journey of anti-Japanese bloody battles for twenty years. And it was a historic journey in which he created fresh styles and methods of the party's ideological work to bring up the younger generation into reliable heirs to the Juche cause by thoroughly arming them with the glorious revolutionary traditions of the WPK.
They called upon the officials and researchers in the field of social sciences to further deepen the researches into the greatness of the three generals of Mt. Paektu and their undying exploits and briskly explain theories to help people and school youth and children deeply grasp the revolutionary traditions of Juche and thus positively contribute to training them into vanguard fighters in the Songun revolution.

U.S. Policy for Domination Flayed

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The Western Regional Federation of Koreans in the United States reportedly held a monthly meeting denouncing the U.S. policy for domination on May 21.     When finding it hard to suppress the independent forces, the forces for social welfare of other countries by dint of this policy, the U.S. resorted to such dangerous act as igniting a war by mobilizing the anti-national forces subservient to the imperialist forces, they noted.

Rodong Sinmun on Dignity and Interests of Nation

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial stressed that the dignity and interests of the nation should be placed above anything else to resolve all problems arising in accomplishing the cause of reunification. This idea is very just and realistic as it is based on the essence of the issue of reunification and reflects the unanimous desire and intention of all Koreans. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a by-lined article.
Only when the dignity and interests of the nation are placed above anything else and firmly defended can the members of the nation have the true pride and honor of independent humankind, the article says, calling for retaking the dignity and interests of the whole nation by putting an end to the domination and interference of the outsiders in south Korea and reunifying the country as early as possible.
The idea of the joint editorial is the just and patriotic idea that calls forth sympathy from the whole nation, the article points out, and says:
Defending the idea of "By our nation itself" is essential to implementing the idea of the joint editorial.
All members of the nation should make it an iron rule to resolve all the problems arising in the inter-Korean relations and the reunification of the country in the idea of "By our nation itself". Only by doing so can they foil the obstructive moves of the foreign forces and the anti-reunification forces and develop the drive for inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation and reunification into the patriotic work for the dignity and interests of the nation.
They should resolutely struggle against the aggression and interference of the outsiders.
The north and the south of Korea should reject the foreign interference in the settlement of the reunification issue and adhere to the principle of attaching priority and importance to the nation.
The patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and overall national unity is a sacred and patriotic struggle for the dignity and interests of the nation.
All Koreans should vigorously conduct the three-point patriotic movement under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" to open a new turning phase for the cause of reunification.

Silk, Traditional Korean Textile

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Silk cloth is a traditional fabric of Korea. The Korean people have woven various kinds of silk fabrics from thousands of years ago, earning fame from the international community for the high standard of their weaving technique.

Those wearing silk clothes are often met in the country.
It is an old custom that the brides and aged people put on graceful silk dresses and participate in their wedding and birthday feasts.
In particular, children in rainbow-striped silk garments and women in chima and jogori (Korean-style skirt and coat) on national holidays and anniversaries stir up national emotion and add beauty to streets.
In order to fully meet the demand of the people for silk cloths, the government of the DPRK built silk production bases in different parts of the country.
Typical of them is the Nyongbyon Silk Mill with longest history. It, located in Nyongbyon County, North Phyongan Province, has a plottage of more than 84,000 square meters and is turning out beautifully patterned silk fabrics.
It, furnished with modern machines and equipment, weaves various kinds of silk cloths including Yaksandan and Kuryongdan with silk thread and filament yarn produced respectively at the Pyongyang Silk Reeling Mill and the Chongjin Chemical Fibre Mill as main raw materials.
Its silk products were highly appreciated at international commodity exhibitions.

Unjust Sentence Passed on Former S. Korean Minister under Fire

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- The Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee bitterly denounces the sentence passed by the south Korean judicial authorities on Pak Ji Won, former minister of Culture and Tourism, as an intolerable insult to the historic Pyongyang Summit and the June 15 joint declaration and an anti-national behavior going against the trend of the era when the Koreans are working hard to achieve reconciliation, unity and reunification under the banner of "By our nation itself". Its spokesman said this in a statement on Friday accusing the Seoul High Court of south Korea of recently holding another round of trial of him who had been prosecuted for his alleged "involvement in the mail of money to the north" at which it finally sentenced him to three years in prison and imposition of a huge amount of penalty.
The statement branded this action as an unpardonable criminal act of hamstringing inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation and playing down the national significance of the historic Pyongyang Summit. It also described this as another base and vicious political terrorism intended to ostracize the main players who contributed to the landmark event of signing the historic north-south joint declaration in a bid to serve the purposes of the U.S. and the Grand National Party of south Korea to divide and weaken the forces supporting the June 15 joint declaration and forces for progressive reforms and set up a pro-American conservative "regime" in south Korea.
The statement continued: The south Korean judicial authorities should behave with discretion, well aware that it is the era of the June 15 era of independent reunification, not the time when the U.S. and the ultra-right conservative forces brandished the swords of fascist dictatorship against the people, lording it over them, and unconditionally release the illegally detained figure related to the above-said event.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Navy Unit 269

Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected KPA Navy Unit 269. He first looked round the monument to the on-the-spot guidance of President Kim Il Sung and the room devoted to the unit's history.
Under the wise leadership of the President the unit has grown to be a combined unit of warships with matchless combat capability, he said, adding that the revolutionary exploits the President performed in the Juche-based building of the navy would always shine along with the history of the country.
He underscored the need to intensify the education through the room devoted to the unit's history, noting that servicepersons can serve in the army more faithfully with affection for the unit only when they know well about its history and tradition.
He went round a historic warship. It is the warship which Kim Il Sung boarded on July 5, 1954 to give a precious instruction on bolstering up the naval force.
Looking back with deep emotion on that unforgettable day of history, he urged the unit to preserve and take good care of the warship associated with the President's leadership exploits so that the seamen may always remember the benevolence shown by him.
Making the round of the port then, he acquainted himself with the overall work of the unit and set forth tasks to be tackled to further increase its combat capability.
He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the servicepersons of the unit have done a lot of work in the last period and have grown to be a-match-for-a hundred fighters through intensive training true to the on-the-spot instructions given by the President. He had a photograph taken with the seamen of the unit.
