KPA Side Refutes South Side's Smear Campaign over Abortive Trial Train Operation
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- The authorities and officials concerned of the ruling and opposition parties of south Korea are vying with each other to vociferously assert that the north side is to blame for the failure of the north and the south to conduct the trial train operation on May 25 as scheduled. In this connection a spokesman for the north side delegation to the Inter-Korean Military Talks on Saturday issued a statement clarifying the stand of the Korean People's Army.
The statement said:
The north-south trial train operation proved abortive because the establishment of a "peace mechanism" on the Korean Peninsula and revitalization of inter-Korean cooperation and exchange, much touted by the south side on official and unofficial occasions, turned out to be nothing but an empty talk full of lies and deception and it was foolish enough to use the trial train operation for its political purpose in violation of the principle it agreed with the north side as regards the project of reconnecting the north-south railways.
The above-said trial operation could not be conducted also because the south side failed to exert sincere efforts to ensure that the north and the south properly conduct economic cooperation and exchange in line with the agreement already reached between them so that the KPA may take steps for military guarantee keeping pace with them.
At the north-south general-level military talks held so far we explained enough to convince the south side that if the inter-Korean rail and road links are to be properly reconnected and cooperation and exchange make successful progress on the principle of ensuring the common prosperity of the nation and meeting its common interests, it is most urgent to defuse the military tension and ensure lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
We clarified our stand that if the south side is truly interested in opening to traffic the railways and roads aimed at relinking the severed blood ties of the nation and ready to take measures for military guarantee for it, it should take up among other things such basic issue of defusing the military tension as the issue of preventing clashes in the waters of the West Sea at the inter-Korean military talks arranged by use of precious time and otherwise, it is impossible to properly settle any issue arising between the north and the south.
It was quite obvious that the KPA could not allow the peaceful trial train operation under the present situation that such rowdyism as burning flags of the DPRK, a dignified symbol of our state, was perpetrated in Seoul and Phyongthaek in broad daylight at the tacit connivance of the police authorities quite contrary to the trend of the June 15 era.
The south side should not busy itself falsifying reality and creating impression that all the responsibilities for the case rest with the north side but make due efforts to fulfill its responsibility.
It should clearly understand that all issues arising in the inter-Korean relations can be properly solved only when it makes a responsible option to buckle down to defusing the military tension that may stop overall cooperation and exchange in a moment and settling such core military issue as clashes in the waters of the West Sea.
The KPA will closely watch the future attitude of the south side.
S. Korea to Blame for Abortive Trial Train Operation
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities should take their military and the ultra-right conservatives of the "Grand National Party" to task for the abortive trial train operation, force them to pay for their crimes and apologize for defaming the flag of the DPRK and sternly punish those responsible for it, urges Minju Joson Sunday in a signed commentary.
The south Korean authorities are obliged to keenly realize their responsibility for the abortive north-south trial train operation and take practical measures to meet the expectation of the nation. But they have gone so rash as to find fault with the north, the commentary notes, and goes on:
They are uttering unsavory words falsifying truth in a bid to mislead public opinion just as a thief crying "Stop the thief!" This cannot but be a very serious development as it throws a stumbling block in the way of improving the inter-Korean relations.
The responsibility for the abortive trial train operation between the north and the south entirely rests with the south side because it failed to prevent disturbing developments, making the trial operation abortive. Therefore, the south Korean authorities should do what they should do, though belatedly.
This notwithstanding, they have gone so clumsy as to talk about the issue of providing "raw materials and other supplies for light industry" and "materials for railways", not content with shifting the blame on to the others, far from taking to task their own military.
The north-south economic cooperation is not a simple economic and business matter but the nation's common undertaking to achieve reconciliation, unity, reunification and prosperity. No success can be expected if the inter-Korean economic cooperation is regarded as a sort of give-and-take business. If the south Korean authorities try to use the inter-Korean cooperation for meeting their sinister political purpose, oblivious of this, they will meet nothing but censure.
S. Korean People's Actions against Expansion of U.S. Military Base Supported
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- At least 150 civic organizations and figures in Japan on May 20 reportedly published a "joint statement of Japanese supporting inhabitants in Phyongthaek in their actions to protest the violent requisitioning of land and win peace and right for existence.
The organizations and figures extend sincere warm solidarity to the south Korean people in their struggle against the moves of the United States to expand its military base aimed at perpetuating the division of the Korean Peninsula and increasing the threat of war, the statement said.
The peoples of south Korea and Japan are standing in the same trench against the U.S. moves for the expansion of the military base, the statement noted, calling for intensifying the solidarity actions for preserving peace in Northeast Asia, preventing a war and dismantling the U.S. military bases.
Seminar on Juche Idea Held in Democratic Congo
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- A seminar on the Juche idea was held in Kinshasa on May 19 on the occasion of the day of the liberation of Democratic Congo.
Nzemba Yangana, chairman of the Youth Group for the Study of the Juche Idea in Democratic Congo, said in his speech titled "Genuine liberation of Democratic Congo and the Juche idea" that the Juche idea is a great guiding idea clarifying the position and role of man in the world and ways of achieving the independence of people, adding that the validity and vitality of the Juche idea have already been clearly proved in reality.
Other speakers also noted that the Juche idea clearly shows Democratic Congo the road of genuine development and socialism, calling on its people to arm themselves with the Juche idea and embody it in all fabrics of social life.
Poem "Great Integral Whole" Published in Russia
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- A poem "Great Integral Whole" was published by Vladimir Grebtsev, commentator of the newspaper Patriot.
The poem says that leader Kim Jong Il born as the son of Mt. Paektu has successfully carried forward the sacred cause of President Kim Il Sung.
The DPRK will surely overcome all sorts of obstacles and bring about fruits of happiness as its people and leader have formed an integral whole, it stresses.
Fruit Farms in Korea Take on Fresh Looks
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- Fruit farms across the country are taking on fresh looks through a dynamic drive to cultivate new specimen of fruit trees.
Scientific research institutes in the field of agriculture and different nurseries produced 1.5 million saplings of new species of apple trees last year alone by making vigorous endeavors to acclimatize high-yielding fruit species to the climatic and soil conditions of Korea for five years.
Fruit farms in Hwangju, North Hwanghae Province, Onchon, South Phyongan Province, and other parts of the country significantly increased the area of fields under short apple trees which bear fruits faster than other species, bringing the area of fields under apple trees of new species to hundreds of hectares.
Pear trees of new species on Pyongyang, Myonggan and other fruit farms have produced sweet and delicious fruits over the last two years.
The cultivation of peach trees of new species has also proved successful in orchards in different parts of the country. For example, a peach weighed 350-400g last year.
The area of fields under grape of new species is on the yearly increase in various fruit farms including the Sariwon fruit farm in North Hwanghae Province that has turned into a farm specializing in the grape cultivation.
Meanwhile, persimmon-apricot trees are widely distributed in the areas south of Pyongyang and fruit farms in Unpha, Pongsan and other areas prove successful in cultivating jujube trees fruits of which are incomparably rich in vitamin and sugar content and more fragrant than native species of jujube.
Construction Brisk in Rural Areas of Korea
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- 20 new rural villages appeared in South Hwanghae Province in a matter of four months this year.
Dwelling houses, production buildings and public establishments sprang up at the foots of sunny hills and mountains in rural ris of Haeju City, Kangryong, Ongjin, Yonan, Jangyon, Anak and Chongdan counties and other cities and counties. They have been brightly painted and roofed with tiles of different colors.
The newly built houses have pens for animals such as goat, hen, duck and rabbit, methane gas tanks and five or more fruit trees. Some of the villages have wind power generators suited to the natural and geographical conditions.
Korean-style tile-roofed houses and houses of other styles, each for a family, have several living and bed rooms and other amenities to the convenience of farmers.
Danger of Japanese Militarists' Moves for Reinvasion Disclosed
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- The Japanese militarists who have stepped up the preparations for reinvasion under the mask of a "pacifist state" after their defeat are now becoming all the pronounced in their moves to conquer the world with militarist swords as if they had their days, observes Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.
What draws special caution in their moves for reinvasion is that they are beefing up their armed forces, the article notes, and goes on:
Japan is spending a fabulous amount of money for military spending every year. It has reached the level of the world's military powers in the production of military hardware and the strength of the "Self-Defense Forces". Japan has practically rounded off its preparations for attack in terms of its armed forces' readiness.
The Japanese government has flung open the door for overseas aggression. It adopted it as a main mission of the SDF's military activities to operate beyond the boundary of the Japanese archipelago though it advocated the defence of its proper. They are busy with military activities in the world's dispute-torn areas. The SDF now look like the Japanese army in the imperial era.
Japan's stepped-up arms build-up and overseas advance of the SDF are extremely dangerous developments as they disturb peace in Asia and bring the danger of a new war to it. Japan is dreaming of realizing by its powerful military strength its ambition to seize the continent it had failed to do in the past.
The Japanese militarists are deliberately perpetrating provocations against its neighboring countries while raising claims to Tok Islet of Korea, Diaoyu-dao of China and the Southern Kurils of Russia.
Their moves to grab lands of other countries pose a very potential danger to the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia as a source of war and a time bomb. The Japanese militarists are set to ignite a war in Asia by mobilizing all the military potentials and legal mechanisms they have built till now. There is acute military confrontation in Northeast Asia and the rest of Asia owing to their reckless moves for reinvasion.
The danger of their reinvasion is becoming real. If their moves are not checked, the Asian people may suffer horrible disasters. That is why they are heightening vigilance against Japan's moves for reinvasion. Kim Jong Il Awarded International Prize of Literature and Art
Moscow, May 25 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il was awarded the Sholokhov International Prize of Literature and Art of Russia.
A ceremony of awarding its certificate and medal was held in Moscow on May 24.
The certificate and medal were conveyed to the DPRK ambassador to Russia.
Written on the certificate are letters "We have the honor of awarding certificate and medal to Comrade Kim Jong Il in recognition of his distinguished services made to the world cause of socialism and his great exploits performed in the work for prosperity of the people's state. Yu. V. Bondarev, chairman of the Committee for Conferring the Sholokhov International Prize of Literature and Art. May 24, 2006."
Present at the ceremony were its chairman who is the executive chairman of the International Community of Writers Unions, the president of Sholokhov State University of Education in Moscow, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Patriot and other personages in the fields of literature and art and the press.
Corrupt Conservative Politics under Fire in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly made public an appeal calling for putting an end to the corrupt conservative politics with a wise judgment and cool-headed choice on May 23.
The appeal recalled that indecent irregularities and corruption of the corrupt conservative forces and their moves to dominate the degenerated local power bodies are being brought to light day by day with the election to the "local self-governing bodies" at hand.

Plan to Travel U.S. to Check Conclusion of FTA Issued in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking the Conclusion of South Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement in south Korea held a press conference in front of the main building of the government on May 22 to make public a plan to travel the U.S. to check the conclusion of FTA, according to a news report.
Speakers at the press conference recalled that workers of the U.S. understood the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. FTA would bring damage to the south Korean workers and, accordingly, expressed their will to positively come out against its conclusion, adding that they agreed to wage a joint struggle.
They denounced the south Korean authorities for handing over a list of leading members of civic and public organizations to the U.S. side in a bid to bar those organizations from visiting the U.S., thus making it difficult for them to apply for visas. They also lashed at the U.S. for obstructing their entry into the U.S.
They declared that despite such obstructions they would jointly hold an international solidarity rally and a press conference and a candlelight demonstration, and other actions in Washington D.C. from June 1.

Aggressive Nature and Danger of Realignment of U.S. Forces Disclosed
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- With no crafty moves can the U.S. imperialists conceal the aggressive nature and danger of the realignment of their forces frantically stepped up under the pretext of "troop reduction" to dominate the world, observes Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article.
What the U.S. seeks in pushing ahead with its military realignment under that signboard is to introduce a new method of waging a blitzkrieg by mobilizing its units relatively small in size but fast in maneuverability, unlike the method of conducting a large war by deploying its forces along vast fronts as it did in the past, the article notes, and goes on:
The United States is talking about "troop reduction" in some areas but shifting its forces to other places instead of cutting down its overall forces.

The U.S. imperialists are staging the farce of flexibly relocating their forces in south Korea for the purpose of getting them swiftly involved in regional disputes under the signboard of "strategic flexibility". Moves are being stepped up to reorganize the U.S. Second Division in south Korea into a "task force operating in vast region" capable of conducting an "independent long-distance operation".
The danger of the relocation of the U.S. forces in south Korea lies in that it is aimed to expand its operation sphere not only to the Korean Peninsula but to the Asia-Pacific region so as to mount a preemptive attack on countries in the region.
The relocation of the U.S. forces in south Korea presupposes a preemptive nuclear attack. The U.S. bellicose forces are getting frantic in their moves to modernize nuclear weapons and establish the Missile Defense system while massively deploying task forces in and around south Korea.
The realignment of the U.S. forces aimed at holding military hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region finds its manifestation in beefing up its forces in Japan.
Lurking behind this realignment is its aim to use Japan as a shock force for igniting a new Korean war.
Forces for Peace and Progress in S. Korea Called upon to Punish Conservative Forces for War
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- The people from all walks of life in south Korea should cast ballots to the forces for peace and progress in the "election to the local self-governing bodies" slated to be held on May 31 irrespective of party affiliation and political grouping and ism and thus punish the conservative forces for war and lay a solid foundation for ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula, urges Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
It goes on:
The victory of the forces for peace and progress in the "election" would put impetus to the progress of the south Korean society and the process of inter-Korean reconciliation. But if the conservative forces are allowed to seize local power, this will drive the south Korean society to subjugation, dictatorship and war.
The "election" is a crucial matter related to the destiny of the south Korean people and, furthermore, to the future of the country and the entire Korean nation.
Now is the time to make a correct option and bold decision.
Peace is a prerequisite to the independent life the south Korean people have desired so much and a mainstay for independent reunification.
To stand for war means committing acts of treachery as instructed by the U.S. and the gentries of the "Grand National Party" servile to it.
The U.S. has left no means untried to strengthen its system of rule over south Korea. It is one of its levers to revive the pro-U.S. conservative forces for war so that they may return to power.
The GNP is a den of lackeys of the U.S. and a centre of the conservative forces for war. Already ostracized in the era after being forsaken by history, this treacherous party is making desperate efforts to lay a springboard through the forthcoming "election" and realize its wild ambition to come to power through the next year's "presidential election."
Casting ballots to the GNP is as treacherous as inviting the dark fascist rule to south Korea and driving the country and the nation to a scourge of war. It is no use of crying over spilt milk.
Rodong Sinmun Calls for Keeping Steadfast Anti-imperialist Class Consciousness

Historic Kumsanbong Meeting
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- Seventy-three years have passed since the historic Kumsanbong Meeting was held on May 28, Juche22 (1933) during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.
President Kim Il Sung advanced into the homeland, leading an anti-Japanese guerrilla army unit in May that year, and convened the meeting on Kumsan Peak in the then Sinhung village, Jongsong County in the northern tip of Korea on the shore of the River Tuman.
At the meeting he analyzed the military and strategic position of six- township areas including Jongsong and stressed that establishing the Jongsong area as a semi-guerilla zone in particular was the most pressing task for defending the guerilla areas along the River Tuman and expanding the armed struggle into the homeland.
The underground workers, he emphasized, should not be hidebound but awaken and turn those with a scrap of national conscience to the revolutionary side and should properly combine the legal and semi-legal struggle with illegal one.
The speech of the President opened up a bright vista for closely rallying all sections of people as a political force under the banner of the anti-Japanese national united front and further expanding the mass foundation of the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
The Kumsanbong Meeting was a significant one in the history of the Korean revolution. It provided a guideline to be taken by the revolutionary organizations and underground workers in the struggle for expanding the armed struggle into the homeland and establishing dependable semi-guerilla zones in northern area of Korea, the guideline that President Kim Il Sung had consistently adhered to from the first days since he declared the anti-Japanese war. –0

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Air Force Unit
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected KPA Air Force Unit 797 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led seventh regiment.
He looked round the monument to the on-the-spot guidance of President Kim Il Sung and the historic planes.
Kim Il Sung visited this unit on Mar. 21, 1976 and gave precious instructions on bolstering the air force.
After seeing the historic relics and mementoes associated with the President's giant footprints, Kim Jong Il said that the unit could traverse the road of victory and glory under the President's wise guidance and meticulous care. The immortal revolutionary exploits performed by the President in the building of the nation's air force will shine forever, he added.
He learned about the unit's performance of duty before watching airmen's training. He set forth tasks to be tackled to further increase the unit's combat capability, expressing great satisfaction over the fact that the unit has fully prepared all the airmen as brave fighters through vigorous endeavors to thoroughly implement the WPK's policy of training.
This unit with a long history is a unit of merit as it has produced many heroes, he said, calling on all the airmen to carry forward this proud militant tradition and become heroes in the sacred battles to defend the country.
He took deep care of the service and living of the airmen, making the rounds of a servicepersons' hall, a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a wash-cum-bath house, a daily provision store and other places of the unit.
Noting that all the airmen are strong in the faith and ideology as they are filled with the patriotic determination to readily dedicate their youth and lives to the defence of the country, he stressed that the country is like an impregnable fortress as its sky is firmly guarded by this contingent of loyalists.

EE.UU. reorganiza y reemplaza sus tropas en Japon para utilizarlas como brigada de choque del cumplimiento de nueva guerra coreana.
Nunca puede ocultar la esencia agresiva y la peligrosidad de la farsa de reubicacion de sus efectivos encaminada a realizar su ambicion de dominio al mundo.
Rodong Sinmun se refiere a la necesidad de firme conciencia clasista
Pyongyang, 27 de mayo (ATCC) -- Corea construye el socialismo rechazando las maniobras obstructoras de los imperialistas norteamericanos, caudillo de la agresion y la guerra. Esta realidad demanda que nuestro pueblo tenga la firme conciencia clasista antiimperialista y tome con mas firmeza el fusil de la revolucion, arma de la clase para defender seguramente su ideologia, sistema y conquistas de la revolucion bajo la gran bandera del Songun (priorizacion militar).
Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 27 y continua:
Lo importante en la labor para tener la firme conciencia clasista es guardar la fe en la victoria cierta de la causa del socialismo y la disposicion de luchar hasta el fin contra aquellos elementos que atentan nuestra ideologia, sistema, dignidad y causa.
De la fe en la justeza y victoria de la causa del socialismo emana la determinacion de defender a costa de la vida su ideologia, sistema y causa. Quien carece de esta fe se vacila y se retrocede en la lucha clasista y luego echa a perder las conquistas de la revolucion. Esta es una verdad que da la leccion del derrumbe del socialismo en varios paises.
La brillante victoria en la batalla de defensa al socialismo y las gloriosas proezas, logradas en la construccion de una gran potencia prospera en medio de multiples dificultades y pruebas haciendo frente a las fuerzas aliadas imperialistas que se acometen de todas las direcciones, demostraron con claridad que en el mundo nadie puede doblegar al ejercito y el pueblo de Corea, poseedores de esta inmutable confianza en la victoria.
Los imperialistas norteamericanos temen mas que nada la ferrea voluntad del pueblo coreano de luchar hasta el fin y a riesgo de su vida para la victoria final de la causa socialista.
En el mundo nadie puede vencer al ejercito y el pueblo unidos ferreamente con las invencibles fuerzas armadas y el firme espiritu de lucha antiimperialista.
Rodong Sinmun aboga por votar a las fuerzas progresistas pacifistas
Pyongyang, 27 de mayo (ATCC) -- Los habitantes surcoreanos de diferentes estratos deben votar, por encima de las diferencias de facciones, pertenencias y criterios politicos, a las fuerzas progresistas pacifistas en las "elecciones de autonomia local" a celebrarse el venidero 31 de mayo para sentenciar a las conservadoras belicistas y sentar una firme base para la paz de la Peninsula Coreana.
Exhorta asi el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 27 y prosigue:
Si las primeras ganan en los proximos "comicios", se aceleraran la reforma progresista de la sociedad surcoreana y el proceso conciliatorio entre el Norte y el Sur de Corea y, en caso contrario, este segundo optara por el camino de subyugacion, dictadura y guerra.
En este sentido, estas "elecciones" resultan un problema importantisimo para el destino de la poblacion surcoreana y el porvenir de la patria y de toda la nacion coreana.
Ahora es justamente cuando hay que tomar una opcion y determinacion correctas.
La paz es el requisito de la vida independiente, a que aspiran con ansiedad los habitantes surcoreanos, y el cimiento de la reunificacion independiente.
La guerra deviene la senda de crimenes antinacionales que prefieren EE.UU. y sus lacayos compinches del "partido Hannara".
En su intento de fortalecer el sistema dominacionista sobre el suelo surcoreano, el imperio busco la solucion en estimular a las fuerzas conservadoras belicistas proyanquis del Sur de Corea, lideradas por el "partido Hannara", a retomar el poder.
Esta entidad, abandonada hace tiempo por la historia, maniobra desesperadamente para ganar terreno en los proximos "comicios" a fin de facilitar la retoma del sillon presidencial en las "elecciones presidenciales" del ano que viene.
Votar a favor de esta seria un acto traidor y vendepatria que dara lugar al oscurantismo fascista en el Sur de Corea y arruinara a la patria y la nacion con desastres de guerra.
No vale la pena arrepentirse despues.
Kim Jong Il recibe premio internacional Sholojov de Rusia
Moscu, 25 de mayo (ATCC) -- Se le otorgo al Dirigente Kim Jong Il el Premio Internacional de Literatura y Arte Sholojov de Rusia.
Tuvo lugar el dia 24 en Moscu la ceremonia de entrega del diploma y la medalla, que fueron transmitidos al embajador extraordinario y plenipotenciario coreano acreditado en Rusia.
En el diploma se escribe como sigue: "Se le confieren al camarada Kim Jong Il el diploma y la medalla para elogiar su extraordinaria contribucion a la causa socialista del mundo y sus grandes proezas hechas en aras de la prosperidad del Estado del pueblo. Yu. V. Bondarev, presidente del Comite Otorgador del Premio Internacional de Literatura y Arte Sholojov. 24 de Mayo de 2006".
En la ocasion participaron el presidente de este comite y tambien titular del Comite Ejecutivo de la Comunidad Internacional de las Uniones de Escritores, el rector de la Universidad Pedagogica Nacional de Moscu Sholojov, el editor en jefe del periodico "Patriot" y otras personalidades de los circulos de literatura y arte, prensa e informacion.
