Commitment to Struggle for Checking Expansion of U.S. Military Base in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- Candidates of the south Korean Democratic Workers' Party for "election of local self-governing bodies" reportedly held a press conference in front of the building of the "National Assembly" on April 26 and committed themselves to a struggle for checking the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek. Speakers at the press conference vehemently condemned the expansion of the U.S. military base and the injustice of the south Korean military authorities' attempt to establish a "protection district of military facilities".
They declared they would struggle with election pledges to check the moves for the expansion of the U.S. military base aimed at realizing the "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. forces in south Korea.
It is the unanimous stand of all the members of the Democratic Workers' Party to give not a single phyong (about 36 square feet) of land to those who threaten peace of the Korean Peninsula, a press release said, and stressed:
We strongly demand a total nullification of the military authorities' plan for commitment of forces and attempt to establish a "protection district of military facilities".
We will oppose the aggressive reorganization of the south Korea-U.S. alliance and certainly check the moves for the expansion of the military base in Phyongthaek, its material foundation.
