Friendly Meetings Held at DPRK Missions

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Friendly meetings were held at the DPRK embassies in Havana and Hanoi on April 25 and 26 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Korean People's Army. Displayed there were photos showing the undying Songun leadership feats of the peerlessly illustrious commanders born of Heaven and the invincible might of the heroic Korean People's Army.
The participants in the meetings watched Korean film "Korean People's Army, Steel-like Ranks" and so on.
The commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Force of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba said that the KPA which defeated U.S. imperialism for the first time in history under the outstanding leadership of President Kim Il Sung is emerging victorious in the military confrontation with the United States, true to the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il.
The deputy director general of the Technical Bureau of the Ministry of Defence of Vietnam said that the party, government and people of Vietnam always remember support and assistance the party, government, army and people of the DPRK sent to Vietnam in the past, expressing the belief that the relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries would grow stronger. The participants in the meetings talked to one another about the need to boost the cooperative relations between the armies and peoples of the DPRK and the above-said countries, deepening the friendship.

Lift of Step for Disconnecting Internet Sites Demanded

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The Internet Journalists Association of south Korea and Internet homepage Minjok Thongsin in the United States reportedly held a joint press conference in Seoul on April 26 at which they strongly demanded the south Korean "government" lift the step for disconnecting the Internet sites and stop the unreasonable suppression of the press. Speakers at the press conference accused the south Korean "government" of instructing the "Ministry of Information and Telecommunications" in November 2004 to totally cut off the connections of 31 Internet sites opened by overseas Koreans on the groundless charges of being "pro-north sites" and having taken no measures in this regard since then.
A written demand for the lift of the measure for cutting off the connections with Internet press of overseas Koreans was read out at the press conference. The action taken by the south Korean authorities to cut off the connections of Internet sites with the overseas national press is hardly understandable, the message charged, urging the authorities to lift such step as soon as possible.

Military's Move to Hurl Forces into Phyongthaek under Fire

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- Press conferences were reportedly held one after another in front of the building of the "Ministry of National Defence" in Seoul on April 26 in protest against the south Korean military authorities' move to hurl forces into Phyongthaek area of Kyonggi Province, an area to be offered for the expansion of the U.S. military base. Representatives of organizations under the All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek held a press conference to be followed by a press conference by the Seoul Council of Measures against the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek. At least 40 women's organizations also held a press conference at which it declared in the name of women its opposition to the expansion of the military base aimed at tightening the south Korea-U.S. "alliance" for aggression and increasing the danger of a nuclear war.
The Catholic Priests Council for Justice held a meeting at Taechu-ri, Phaengsong Township of Phyongthaek City, Kyonggi Province, on April 27 at which it called upon the public circles of south Korea to turn out in the struggle to frustrate the move of the military authorities to use forces for requisitioning land.

Japanese Government Urged to Apologize and Compensate A-bomb Victims

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The Association of Korean A-bomb Victims for Peace against Nukes issued a survey report on April 30 in which it demanded the Japanese government compensate A-bomb victims. The report elaborated on the background against which the issue of A-bomb victims surfaced in the DPRK, the scope of the damage done to them and the attitude and stand of the Japanese government toward it. The report said:
The United States dropped A-bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan on August 6 and 9, 1945, killing or wounding about 700,000 residents there. These disasters took the lives of about 159,000 persons in Hiroshima and about 73,000 persons in Nagasaki. Among the A-bombs victims were foreigners, most of them were Koreans. The south Korean "Association of A-bomb Victims" estimated that the total number of Korean A-bomb victims in those days was about 70,000 and about 40,000 of them were killed.
The A-bomb victims now residing in the DPRK are those who returned home after the defeat of Japanese imperialism or those who returned to the DPRK according to the step for realizing repatriation of Korean nationals in Japan which had been implemented since the end of 1959 and their descendants.
As Japan abandoned claims to compensation for damage done by allied nations in the "San Francisco Peace Treaty" in September 1951, the Japanese government is internationally obliged to compensate A-bomb victims for damage done by the U.S. dropping of A-bombs, taking the place of the assailant.
The Japanese government examined its A-bomb victims once every ten years from 1965 and conducted such positive medical service as paying allowance for their health. It was compelled to give financial assistance to many A-bomb victims in south Korea several times, though discriminative, by the repeated protest and criticism from them and public circles.
A-bomb victims were reported to live in at least 30 countries including the north and the south of Korea, China, the U.S., Canada and Brazil.
However, the Japanese government has neither apologized to the A-bomb victims in the DPRK nor taken any steps to assist them under the pretext of the absence of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Japanese government should admit due responsibility for having spurned the issue of A-bomb victims of the DPRK and honestly apologize and compensate all of them. The A-bomb victims in the DPRK are those who have not received "A bomb-victim health note-book" or repatriated to the DPRK after refusing to receive them of their own accord and their descendents. They are victims of the Japanese government's hostile policy toward the DPRK and national discrimination policy.
The Japanese government should own the responsibility for having sidestepped the above-said issue for the last more than 60 years and honestly compensate A-bomb victims in the DPRK and their bereaved families.
It should take an immediate practical step to settle the issue of A-bomb victims in the DPRK by offering equipment or financial assistance needed for medical treatment as early as possible as a separate step from its state compensation so that they may receive necessary aid from the humanitarian point of view.

Japan's Moves to Seize Tok Islet under Fire

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- All the Koreans in the north and the south of Korea and overseas are strongly denouncing Japan for its moves to seize Tok Islet. Their protest has grown stronger since the Japanese reactionaries revealed their wild ambition to grab Tok Islet under the pretext of "marine survey" recently. The DPRK Jurists Committee released a white paper dismissing Japan's claim to the islet as an unjustifiable assertion as it was based on "legal grounds" not worth even passing notice.
The public organizations including the Central Committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea and the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League in their statements expressed the invariable will of the Korean people not to pardon the Japanese reactionaries' reckless attempt at territorial expansion. Media including Rodong Sinmun, Minju Joson, radio and TV broadcasting services in Pyongyang cited facts to assail the Japanese reactionaries' scenario to grab the islet which has reached the phase of its implementation.
Acad., Professor and Dr. Ho Jong Ho, chairman of the DPRK Historians Society, warned that the Koreans would never remain passive on-lookers to the present situation where they are faced with a supreme task to defend the islet, adding that all of them would join efforts to protect the islet.
No sooner had Japan revealed its sinister ambition to seize the islet than it touched off bitter condemnation of the ambition among the south Korean public. South Korean figures from all walks of life expressed their will not to tolerate Japan's shameless moves but resolutely react to them and defend to the last the islet, an alienable part of the territory of Korea.
A 56 years old man in Seoul attempted a suicide by disemboweling himself in protest against Japan's act, shouting "Tok Islet is an inseparable part of the territory of Korea." Overseas Koreans and their organizations in different countries and regions of the world including Japan, China and the U.S. issued statements advising the Japanese reactionaries to bear in mind that if they keep pursuing the policy of territorial expansion, oblivious of the historical lesson, they will meet the stronger protest and denunciation from the Koreans and other peoples of the world and only death and self-destruction will await them.

Rodong Sinmun Observes May Day

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The working class and people of the DPRK who have created a shining heroic epic in safeguarding and building socialism holding President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il in high esteem are firmly determined to accomplish to the last the socialist cause of Juche under the ever-victorious banner of Songun. Rodong Sinmun Monday observes this in an editorial dedicated to May Day. It goes on:
The heroic working class intensely loyal to the Party's cause is standing side by side with the People's Army, the main force of Songun revolution, in the van of the on-going worthwhile march demonstrating the dignity and invincible stamina of Korean-style socialism to the world.
Whenever the imperialists became undisguised in their moves for aggression and the revolution faced a rigorous trial, the Korean working class defended the Party and the leader in a do-or-die spirit and made a breakthrough towards fresh progress and leap forward at every stage of socialist construction through uninterrupted great revolutionary surge.
The indomitable fighting spirit like the Kanggye spirit was created in the period of "the Arduous March", forced march and torches were kindled in Songgang and Ranam to effect a new great revolutionary surge and all this is reminiscent of the period of great Chollima surge in the postwar period. It is the stirring reality possible only in the DPRK which enjoys the wise leadership of the great Party and has the most revolutionary and militant working class.
Korean-style socialism will be ever-victorious in the future too, thanks to the revolutionary working class and other people who regard socialism as their life and soul. All the workers and other people should work harder to glorify the present Songun era as an era of fresh victory and prosperity under Korean-style socialism, carrying forward the proud tradition in which they took the lead in victoriously advancing the socialist cause under the leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. It is the invariable stand and will of the Party and people of the DPRK to boost solidarity with the world revolutionary people in their struggle for independence against imperialism and for socialism The working class and people of the DPRK will positively support and encourage the international working class and progressives in their struggle against aggression and war, domination and subjugation and for the building of an independent and friendly new world and dynamically push forward the victorious advance of the socialist cause shoulder to shoulder with them in the future, too.

U.S. Denounced for Instigating Pro-U.S. Conservatives in S. Korea

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement on April 30 denouncing the United States for its sinister moves to revive a pro-U.S. conservative "government" in south Korea. The U.S. separately invited "presidential candidates" of the south Korean "Grand National Party" to the U.S. in February and March, instigating it to achieve the unity of pro-U.S. conservative forces. It, at the same time, encouraged it to rally conservative forces and usurp power through the next presidential election, labeling the present south Korean "government" a "pro-north left-wing government", the statement said, and continued:
The U.S. even instigated them to rally the conservative forces to seize the next-term "government".
Some days ago, hand-raised lackeys of the U.S. Ri Hoe Chang, former representative of the GNP, and Kim Yong Sam slandered the present south Korean "government" an "unidentified government" dominated by "pro-north left-wing" forces. They even went the lengths of crying out for forming a big solidarity front of conservatives" to put an end to the left-wing forces' regime and return to power at any cost. These outbursts were also attributable to the U.S. instigation.
What the U.S. seeks through this is to prevent the appearance of democratic politics, progressive politics, the desire for which has become a trend in south Korea, retain its grip on south Korea as its colony and bring the inter-Korean relations which are favorably developing in the June 15 era back to those in the era of confrontation and provoke the second Korean war.
Gone are the days when there existed the master-servant relations between the U.S. and south Korea, the times when the U.S. could dictate the latter everything, interfering in its politics. Prevailing in south Korea at present is not the "U.S.-style" but the strong trend of independence, national cooperation and reunification.
It is a foolish dream for the U.S. to try to revive the pro-U.S. conservative regime, not away from its anachronistic bad habit, failing to face up to the reality of south Korea. This will only touch off stronger resistance against the U.S. among the south Korean people.
The U.S. would be well advised to immediately stop foolishly instigating the south Korean pro-U.S. conservatives to return to power.

Rodong Sinmun on Source of Songun Korea's Might

Pyongyang, May 1 (KCNA) -- The Korean People's Army and the people sincerely assist each other in the efforts to uphold the Songun revolutionary leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea with loyalty. These beautiful traits serve as a source of invincible might to cement the blood ties between the army and people and augment the might of the country pursuing Songun politics in every way. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The traits which were provided by President Kim Il Sung and have been given steady continuity with the progress of the Korean revolution have been successfully carried forward at a new higher level under the leadership of Kim Jong Il. These traits provide a main guarantee for consolidating the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks as firm as an iron wall.
The single-minded unity will grow strong a thousand times when the army and people have one mind in devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution and upholding its idea and leadership with loyalty.
The traits also serve as a powerful weapon to reliably defend the sovereignty of the country and the nation from the moves of the U.S. imperialists and all the class enemies for aggression.
Today in the society the army and people are firmly defending the defence line of the country with one mind and purpose.
The above-said traits serve as a powerful engine for bringing about a fresh leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation. The KPA is the main force, the core force of the revolution in the society as it is taking charge of not only the defence of the country but socialist construction. Its servicepersons have powerfully encouraged all the people to make enormous creations and changes, setting examples in the drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation.
The reality goes to prove that those traits serve as a powerful engine for the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.

National Meeting Marks May Day

Hamhung, May 1 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the Ryongsong Machine Complex on Monday to mark the 116th May Day. Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Hong Song Nam, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the DPRK Cabinet, and other officials of the Party and power organs and public organizations in Pyongyang and local areas and workers, technicians and employees of the complex.     The working class of the DPRK has rendered great services for the Party, the revolution, the country and the people, vigorously advancing the socialist cause of Juche. This glorious history of struggle is a history of the outstanding and tested leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, he added.
He called upon the working class of the DPRK to deeply cherish the steel-strong faith that the Party and the socialist country, the victory in the revolution and the prosperity of the country are thinkable only thanks to Kim Jong Il, provide the national defence industry with all necessary things on a priority basis as required by the line of economic construction in the era of Songun and thus take the lead in augmenting the military power of the country in every way.
He underscored the need for the whole working class of the country to firmly defend the socialist class position and the gains of the revolution with the transparent viewpoint of war and anti-imperialist and anti-U.S. awareness and exalt the honor as victors in defending the country and building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation with the same spirit and mettle as displayed in the 1950s. The entire working class should wage a vigorous movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity under the uplifted banner of "By our nation itself" and thus bring about a new turning point in the movement for national reunification, he said.
He called on the working class of the DPRK to firmly unite with the revolutionary peoples of the world in the idea of independence, peace and friendship to smash the U.S. imperialists' moves for aggression and war, defend the dignity and sovereignty of the Korean nation and fulfill their international duty in the struggle for the human cause of independence.
