Japan's Moves to Grab Tok Islet Denounced in S. Korea

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations in south Korea including the Reunification Solidarity, the All-people Committee for the Proper Liquidation of the Past, the Solidarity for Asian Peace and Education in History and the Council for the Solution of the Issue of the Volunteers' Corps reportedly held a press conference in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul on April 20 to denounce Japan's moves to grab Tok Islet. A press release distributed at the conference accused Japan of desperately working to grab Tok Islet although it is a hard fact proved by history that the islet is an inalienable part of the territory of Korea.
Noting that Japan's moves to grab the islet is a continuation of its plot to revive militarism, the press release said that Japan is keen to instill militarism and the ambition for territorial expansion into the younger generation through the institution of "Day of Takeshima (Tok Islet)," visits to the "Yasukuni Shrine" and the compilation of the distorted history textbooks justifying its past wars of aggression. The civic and public organizations will never tolerate Japan's moves to grab Tok Islet, the press release noted, urging the "government" to strongly react to Japan's provocative moves to illegally seize the islet.

Japanese Senior Diplomat's Outcries under Fire

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- The director for Asian-Oceanic Affairs of the Japanese Foreign Ministry who is chief delegate of the Japanese side to the six-party talks recently pulled up the DPRK, blustering that north Korea should unconditionally and promptly return to the six-party talks. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: Such remarks can be made only by those busy toeing the U.S. line.
Japan should have properly advised the U.S. as a party concerned with the six-party talks. Yet, it is kicking up the racket of sanctions, pursuant to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK. This behavior is throwing more difficulties and hurdles in the way of the talks.
    The commentary goes on:
Japan is not in a position to talk about the DPRK's unconditional return to the six-party talks. It is well known that Japan has long actively supported and cooperated with the U.S. in its hostile policy toward the DPRK with bitterness toward it. The Japanese reactionaries are busy echoing the U.S. groundless accusations against the DPRK. They have blindly defended and supported their American master when he took the measure to apply sanctions against the DPRK. It is the height of folly for such philistines to talk about someone's unconditional return to the six-party talks. This is a revelation of the bad habit of those who are hell-bent on serving the U.S. No matter how vociferously they may call for the DPRK's return to the six-party talks, while tightening sanctions against it, no one will lend an ear to it. The Japanese ultra-right conservatives' evermore frantic anti-DPRK racket pursuant to the U.S. policy would bring them nothing good.

Development of Education Called for

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today carries a signed article on the occasion of the week of education for all people (April 24 to 30) set by UNESCO. The DPRK worked out a national action program for education for all people on the basis of the declaration of the world education conference on education for all people and its action program and is actively pushing forward the work to implement it, the article says, and goes on:
The DPRK government totally abolished illiteracy in March 1949 through the campaign against illiteracy after the liberation of the country. A universal compulsory primary educational system was introduced in 1956 to give all the children an opportunity to receive regular education at schools free from gender discrimination. A universal compulsory eleven-year educational system came into force in 1972.
The DPRK established an educational system whereby all members of the society could acquire the general knowledge of middle school graduates and above and at least a kind of technical skill and dynamically conducted adult education to help all the working people acquire the general knowledge of middle school graduates and above regardless of sexes.
During the week of education for all people this year the DPRK is conducting the work to increase the attention of the whole state and society to the educational work in various forms and by diverse methods under the sponsorship of the National Coordinating Committee of Education for All People.
The basic tasks and goals of the national action program for education for all people are being introduced and explained nationwide. A contest among teachers selected from schools at various levels and a symposium on new teaching methods and a symposium on educational science, etc. are now under way in Pyongyang. Measures for exploring and developing educational methods suited to the new century are being discussed during this week.
Leading officials in Pyongyang and localities are visiting universities and schools at all levels to learn about how the policies of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government on bringing a radical turn in education are being implemented and take necessary measures in this regard.

Rodong Sinmun on Three-point Patriotic Movement

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- The three-point patriotic movement now gaining in scope and strength amid the strong support and active participation of all Koreans reflects the three principles of national reunification advanced by President Kim Il Sung and it is a nationwide patriotic struggle to implement the principles. Rodong Sinmun today notes this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The patriotic movement for independent reunification reflects the principle of national independence.
The movement is aimed at solving the problem of Korea's reunification independently from the nation-first viewpoint and stand of placing the national dignity and interests above anything else in the idea of "By our nation itself" that serves as a banner in the June 15 reunification era. The movement among other things calls on all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to give full play to their national self-esteem in order to decisively terminate the U.S. intervention and domination, a stumbling block lying in the way of national reunification, and treacherous acts of the separatists in league with outsiders.
The patriotic movement for peace against war is an embodiment of the principle of peaceful reunification.
This is a movement for removing the dark clouds of war thickly hanging over Korea and defending peace. It is a just patriotic movement as it calls upon all Koreans to turn out as one in the struggle to resolutely protect peace and security on the Korean Peninsula from the U.S. imperialists' war moves against the DPRK and drive the U.S. imperialist aggression forces, the root cause of war, out of south Korea. The patriotic movement for great national unity reflects the principle of great national unity.
This is a movement in which the above-said principle is applied to the cause of national reunification. It calls upon all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to unite for independent reunification irrespective of ideology, system, grouping and affiliation. It also calls for strengthening solidarity and alliance among pro-reunification movement organizations. It serves as a powerful means of action whereby to smash the wild design and challenges of the pro-American conservatives with the might of united anti-conservative forces and bring a final doom to them.
The patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity is quite just and is displaying its tremendous vitality thanks to the full support and approval of the entire nation as it has reflected the three principles of national reunification, a great reunification program common to the nation, and serves as a means for implementing them.

Evening Galas of Youth and Students

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- Evening galas of youth and students were held in different parts of the country Tuesday evening to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the heroic Korean People's Army. The venues of evening galas in Pyongyang including the plazas of the Tower of the Juche Idea, the Monument to Party Foundation, the April 25 House of Culture and the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium were crowded with youth and students significantly celebrating the foundation day of the KPA which is demonstrating the might of the strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu under the leadership of the great Songun brilliant commander.
Evening galas began with the playing of song "Korea, Let's Sing of This Pride". The participants in the evening galas presented cheerful dances with deep thanks and boundless reverence for President Kim Il Sung and Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il who defeated two imperialisms in one generation and developed the KPA into a matchless and invincible army.
They continued dancing to the tune of "Let's Become the Army of the General", "I Will Dedicate My Youth to the Country", "Let's Support Our Supreme Commander with Arms" and other songs with their firm determination to become the Songun vanguard fighters who will take the lead in upholding the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea forever in the future, too.
Evening galas took place in Phyongsong, Wonsan, Sariwon, Hamhung, Kanggye, Hyesan and other cities and counties.
The youth and students powerfully demonstrated their firm faith and will to display the honor of being young vanguard of Songun in defending the country and building a great prosperous powerful nation, rallied close around the headquarters of the revolution, bearing in mind that they are blessed by the leaders and the generals down through generations.

U.S. Dangerous Military Moves in Asia-Pacific under Fire

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- The U.S., alleging that the DPRK's increase of its military capacity for self-defence is a "military threat" and a "factor of causing substantial instability", is escalating military tension in and around the Korean Peninsula under the signboard of "countering". Minju Joson Wednesday says this in a signed commentary.
Lurking behind the U.S. act of pulling up the DPRK over its legitimate right and exercise of its full-fledged sovereignty is a sinister purpose, the commentary says, and goes on:
An atmosphere of reconciliation and cooperation has been provided between the north and the south of Korea thanks to the stand and principled efforts of the peace-loving DPRK.
The U.S. is displeased with this from the viewpoint of establishing its right of domination in Asia-Pacific.
The U.S. forces' permanent presence in the region is necessary for the establishment of the right of domination and to this end the U.S. needs a legitimate justification. To meet this military and strategic requirement it has constantly bolstered up its military capacity against the DPRK, letting loose a whole gamut of invectives. Recently it has raised the theory of "threat from China" along with the "threat from north Korea" in a bid to justify its attempt to have hegemony in Asia-Pacific. Under the instable situation caused by the U.S. in the region the DPRK is feeling the urgent need to increase deterrent for self-defence.
The DPRK will make all possible efforts to increase its defence capacity to safeguard the sovereignty and security and defend regional peace and stability. The U.S. had better ponder over the grave consequences to be entailed by its reckless military provocation in and around the Korean Peninsula and stop its reckless military actions at once.

Much Efforts Directed to Cultivation of Medicinal Herbs

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- A campaign for cultivating medicinal herbs is being launched in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in April and May, months for cultivation of medicinal herbs. Jo Yong Dok, chief engineer of the Management Bureau of Koryo Medicine Production under the Ministry of Public Health, told KCNA that a plan has been drawn to plant medicinal herbs and trees on a large acreage of fields throughout the country and people of institutions specializing in cultivation of medicinal herbs and other units are all out to carry the plan into practice.
During the recent 20-odd days seeds and roots of medicinal herbs and medicinal trees were planted in the plots of more than 4,000 hectares across the country. The medicinal herbs and trees are being planted in a scientific way on the principle of the right plant in an opportune time. The North Hwanghae and North Phyongan Provincial Management Bureaus of Koryo Medicine Production have worked out realistic plans according to the processes of medicinal herb cultivation and are striving to plant medicinal herbs and trees in right time.
City and county medicinal herb management companies in Jagang, North and South Hamgyong Provinces are doing all the work processes such as treatment, sprouting and sowing of medicinal herb seeds in a scientific and technical way to suit the seasonal conditions and biological features while giving precedence to the work of securing compost, making seedling beds and increasing acreage under cultivation of medicinal herbs.
Under the condition in which the arable land is limited in the country, steps have been taken to plant lots of medicinal trees in mountains in accordance with actual conditions of local areas.
Meanwhile, a similar campaign is being conducted in institutions, industrial establishments and neighborhood units, too.

Great Care Shown for Children

Pyongyang, April 26 (KCNA) -- Thirty years have passed since the adoption of the DPRK Law on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children on April 29, Juche 65 (1976). The law stipulates various state benefits for the children including the issue of bringing them up at state expense on the principle of "Best Things to Children". The children are called "king" of the country in the DPRK, thanks to the noble outlook on the rising generations of President Kim Il Sung.
Every penny was badly needed for the building of a new country after national liberation (August 15, 1945). Then the President said that in the bygone days the kings took up palaces but in the liberated country the children should occupy palaces. And he initiated to construct a children's palace with funds donated by industrialists and businessmen and selected the best place in the heart of Pyongyang as its site. The President had always paid primary attention to bringing up the children well. He saw to it that the issue of pencil for pupils was put on the agenda of the First Session of the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea and that meetings of the Political Committee of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea were convened to discuss issues of providing children and students of the country with cotton-padded clothes free of charge and of making preparations for a new academic year. A branch school was established for a pupil in a remote area and commuter trains and buses have been operated only for several students. All these steps were taken on the initiative of the President.
There are many moving stories on the warm love shown to children by the President in his lifetime. Among them is a story that busy as he was with state affairs on the first of May, 1960, he invited to his residence orphans Choe Yong Ok and her sisters whom he had been acquainted with several days before, thinking that they would spend the holiday lonely, and wished them a happy future.
Thanks to the love shown by the President for the rising generations, the children's position is guaranteed by law on the highest level.
Even in the period when the country was undergoing difficulties, the children continued to receive benefits from the government and many children's palaces and factories serving them were built in different parts of the country.
