April Holidays of DPRK Commemorated Worldwide

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- Seminars were held by the Workers' Party of Bangladesh, the Indian Intellectuals' Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, the Indian Working Women Society for Study of the Juche Philosophy, and Mongol Chinggis Khaan College Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea on April 9 and 12 to commemorate the Day of the Sun and the 13th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission. On display at the venues of seminars were photos showing the brilliant revolutionary life and undying feats of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, and pictures introducing the Korean people's efforts to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
Rashed Khan Menon, chairman of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Bangladesh, referred in detail to the immortal feats Kim Il Sung performed in the cause of independence against imperialism. Thanks to the invincible military power provided by him, the Korean army and people could work such miracles as reliably defending socialism even in the worst trials and winning victory after victory in the standoff with the United States, the chairman said.
V.K. Chopra, chairman of the Indian Intellectuals' Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, said that Kim Il Sung devoted his all to the freedom and happiness of the people and the human cause of independence until the last moments of his life. His great exploits will remain long with the century, the chairman added. N. Bold, chief of Mongol Chinggis Khaan College Centre for the Study of the Juche Idea, said that Kim Jong Il, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission who is successfully carrying forward Kim Il Sung's cause, has smashed the moves of the U.S. and other imperialists for isolating and stifling the DPRK with his unique Songun policy to defend the security of the country.
Meanwhile, a meeting, a lecture, a seminar, a reading session, a photo exhibition, a film show and a Taekwon-Do demonstration performance were held by the Party for Unity and Progress, the Kim Il Sung Institute of Agricultural Science and the Koba Farm in Guinea and in Malabo of Equatorial Guinea between April 6 and 14.

Today the Songun idea serves as an idea indicating the road ahead of the human cause of liberation and as a banner of struggle in the present times, it says.
Only powerful defence capabilities firmly guarantee the popular masses' sovereignty, the booklet points out, stressing that the Songun idea has made it possible for the Korean revolution to win victory after victory, smashing attacks and slanders of the imperialists and all class enemies.

President of Senate of Philippines Feted

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Supreme People's Assembly hosted a reception at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Saturday in honor of Franklin M. Drillon, president of the Senate of the Philippines, on a visit to the DPRK. Present on invitation were Senators Aquilino Q. Pimentel and Richard J. Gordon, Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Ambeth R. Ocampo and others.     The friendly relations between the two parliaments will promote the development of bilateral relations, he said, adding that the conclusion of an agreement on cultural cooperation between the Philippines and the DPRK will be of weighty significance. He expressed thanks to Kim Jong Il for the great achievements made by the Korean people in political, economic and other fields.

S. Koreans Urge U.S. to Lift Financial Sanctions

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea reportedly made public a statement on April 17 demanding that the United States lift its financial sanctions against the north. The statement censured the U.S. for having taken financial sanctions against the north, talking about its "counterfeit notes" to lay obstacles in the way of implementing the joint statement adopted at the 4th round of the six-party talks, which calls for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and lasting peace and stability of Northeast Asia.
The U.S. is now intensifying blockade and sanctions against the north, the statement noted, and said:
The attitude of the U.S. pursuing confrontation behind the scene while calling for "dialogue" proves what its true intention is.
As long as the U.S. attitude remains unchanged, no matter how frequently the six-party talks are held, nothing will be settled. The U.S. is whiling away the time with spread of extravagant rumor, turning its back on the world public calling for the resumption of the talks, which only proves that it is the very one who disrupted the talks.

U.S. Strategy against DPRK under Fire

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- Though the U.S. has more than 10,000 nukes and continues the development of nuclear weapons of new type, its strategy against the north can never come true, said the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification in a statement on April 17. The statement said:
The U.S. has recently been keen on reinforcement of nuclear weapons under the pretext of "reliable program for the replacement of nuclear warheads". It only reveals the U.S. wild ambition to dominate the world with stronger nuclear weapons of new type.
The first target of the nuclear weapon by the program is the Korean Peninsula. The U.S., engaging itself in the brigandish policy of blockade against the north, has brought about a more serious danger of war to the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. has merged and transformed the facilities related to the nuclear weapons in 10 states of its mainland including California, Florida and Texas. All this is a bigger danger to the Korean Peninsula.

Unity in Anti-U.S. Struggle Called for

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean people from all walks of life will demonstrate the spirit of the Korean nation strong in independence by frustrating with their concerted efforts the anachronistic and criminal moves of the U.S. imperialists to put down the desire of south Koreans for independent reunification, whip up inter-Korean confrontation and reduce three thousand-ri land of Korea to a ruin. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
It goes on: The south Korean people of all social standings including workers, youth and students, intellectuals and religionists are pooling their strength in the struggle against the U.S. for independence, peace of Korea and national reunification. South Korea, known as a region where there was no anti-U.S. struggle, has turned into the area where there is a strong anti-U.S. struggle. This clearly shows that the will and action of the south Korean people are filled with anti-Americanism. The south Korean people should get united under the banner of independence against the U.S. irrespective of idea and political view, property, religious belief and isms to fight the U.S. imperialists with the stronger might of unity.
The June 15 era of reunification is a stirring era in which the Korean nation will emerge victorious in the idea of national independence against outside forces. The nuclear weapons of the U.S. imperialists will do harm not only to the north but also to the south. Unpardonable are the U.S. imperialists' new war preparations to block the progress of the June 15 era of the reunification and destroy the Korean nation. Peace should be achieved through the struggle.
The might of the Korean nation should be strong to check the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula and provide an atmosphere favorable for the independent reunification. The south Korean people unanimously support the Songun politics of the north which reliably safeguards their life and property and the security of the nation. The united strength is the key to all victories.

Minju Joson Calls for Defending Tok Islet

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The DPRK will never turn its face away from the present situation in which the Korean nation is facing a highest task to defend Tok Islet. Minju Joson Sunday says this in a signed commentary.
Recalling that Japan is seeking maritime survey in the economic waters around the islet, the commentary brands it as a grave infringement upon and violent challenge to the sovereignty, dignity and interests of the Korean nation.
    It goes on:
The complicated circumstances envisaging physical collision are prevailing over the region as regards the Japanese reactionaries' projected maritime survey around Tok Islet. The army and people of the DPRK are calling for turning out in the fight to defend the islet with the joint efforts of the Korean nation as the islet is the inalienable territory of the nation.
As long as there is the Korean nation which regards the patriotic soul more precious than life, the islet will remain forever a sacred territory of the Korean nation. The Japanese reactionaries are well advised to immediately give up their wild ambition to grab Tok Islet, which will give rise to catastrophic consequences.

Development of Leading Sectors of National Economy Called for

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The preferential development of power, coal and metal industries and railway transport is an essential requirement for a decisive progress in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article. The development of national defence industry onto a higher stage as required by the Songun era and the drastic development of heavy industries along with light industry and agriculture depend on how the growing demand for power, coal and iron and steel and transport is successfully met, the article says, and goes on: What is important in developing the leading sectors of the national economy as required by the developing economy at present is to decisively increase investment in those fields and establish the discipline and order of preferentially providing equipment, labor force, raw materials and other conditions needed for production. A fresh surge will be kept in the economic construction as a whole when an economic measure is taken and put into practice for the preferential provision of equipment, raw materials and other conditions for the normalization and expansion of production along with increased investment in the leading sectors of the national economy. What is also important in drastically propping up the leading sectors of the national economy at present is to push ahead with the reconstruction and modernization of these sectors, establish scientific management and business strategy and positively solve their problems to suit their specific conditions in the spirit of self-reliance. The technical reconstruction of heavy industries requires a lot of funds and high technology. It will be effective to improve overall technical equipment qualitatively and modernize production processes by way of renovating objects one by one to suit the trend of economic development and their reality.
These fields will make great progress when the centralized guidance of the state over the economy is ensured and the lower units establish and implement their scientific management and business strategy by giving full play to their creativity.

Talks between SPA Chairman and President of Philippine Senate

Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- Talks between Choe Thae Bok, chairman of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, and Franklin M. Drillon, president of the Senate of the Philippines, were held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Sunday. Present there from the DPRK side were Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is deputy to the SPA, and others and from the opposite side Senators Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Richard J. Gordon and Ambeth R. Ocampo who is chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines and others.

Drillon, president of the Senate of Philippines, Senators Aquilino Q. Pimentel and Richard J. Gordon, Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Ambeth R. Ocampo and others. GNP's Desperate Efforts to Return to Power Blasted

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- "Veteran members" of the Grand National Party of south Korea were reported to have received hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars in bribes in connection with the "nomination of candidates of the party." Rodong Sinmun today observes in a signed commentary in this regard: This fact clearly proves that the "GNP"'s true colors as a corrupt party and a treacherous political party remain unchanged. It is a group of despicable political charlatans engrossed in irregularities and corruption.
As its nicknames such as a "party embezzling truckloads of money", a "party corrupt from its inception, a "party of thieves," and others it earned for its election frauds tell, corruption and moral vulgarity are peculiar to the GNP. These can be called incurable diseases that torment the GNP unless it is buried underground.
This case warns what a gloomy future south Korea would have if such political imposters and human scum of the "GNP" were allowed to return to power. It is as clear as noonday that this traitorous party's seizure of power would revive fascist dictatorship and treacherous politics.
The commentary calls upon the people from all walks of life in south Korea to turn the up-coming "election to local self-governing bodies" into a tribunal for severely punishing the "GNP."

S. Korean Ultra-Right Organizations' Acts of Treachery under Fire

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement on Friday to denounce the pro-U.S. ultra-right organizations in south Korea for staging such a ridiculous farce as giving bosses of the U.S. ruling machines in south Korea including the U.S. ambassador Korean names. The south Korea-U.S. "Alliance Friendship Society" in March named U.S. Ambassador in Seoul Vershbow "Pak Po U" in the hope that he would be an eternal friend who regards south-Korea U.S. alliance as a jewel.
The former U.S. 8th army commander in south Korea who finished his service on April 11 was named "Kim Han Su" in the hope that he would always defend "south Korea-U.S. alliance", the U.S. 7th air force commander "Kim Ung Bi" in the meaning that he is a hero flying in the sky, Laporte, U.S. forces commander in south Korea who went back home in February, "Ra Po Thae" in the hope that he would play a role of a jewel in the south Korea-U.S. alliance.
The statement noted that this disgusting farce cannot be construed otherwise than despicable rowdyism staged by pro-U.S. flunkeyists and mentally deranged guys keen to prolong their dirty remaining days by clinging to the coattails of the aggressors, utterly indifferent to the misfortune the Koreans have undergone. Such traitorous acts to serve the U.S. will bring nothing but a catastrophic war disaster to the Korean nation, the statement notes, warning that south Korea can never be safe nor the Korean nation live in peace as long as pro-U.S. traitorous group such as the GNP and the "friendship society" are at large.

He was accompanied by Senators Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Richard J. Gordon and Ambeth R. Ocampo who is chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and others.

Japan Urged to Behave with Discretion

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries should drop the anachronistic "claim to Tok Islet" and behave with discretion, properly understanding the demand of the times and the unshakable will of the Korean nation to certainly force Japan to pay for the crimes it has committed for the last more than 100 years, urges a spokeswoman for the Central Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in a statement issued Saturday to denounce the Japanese reactionaries for making brigandish "claim to Tok Islet", far from sincerely apologizing and compensating for the crimes committed by Japan in the past. History can neither be changed nor amended through distortion or with the replacement of generations and the passage of time, the statement said, and went on: The true aim sought by the Japanese authorities in making such claim is to secure an advance base and military bridgehead for realizing its attempt at staging a comeback to Asian countries including Korea and. at the same time, monopolize economic concessions including rich marine and seabed resources in the waters around the islet. Another aim sought by the Japanese authorities is to instill the idea of invading other countries into the young Japanese through education in distorted history and use them as a shock brigade for a war of aggression any time.
They want to teach the youngsters that territories of other countries belong to Japan, concealing and whitewashing the aggression committed by Japan against them in the past. It is quite obvious how adversely this education will affect their mentality. Should the Japanese authorities keep to the road of territorial expansion while justifying the past crimes, far from honestly repenting of and fully compensating for them, they will only precipitate their shameful self-destruction.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, inspected KPA Unit 196 situated in the front line area. Conducted by the commander of the unit, he went round the room dedicated to the history of the unit.
The unit has performed many feats by giving full play to the heroic stamina of the KPA not only during the wartime but in the period of socialist construction, he said, calling upon the servicepersons of the unit to demonstrate the ever-victorious might in the future, too, by preserving the tradition of such proud struggle. Seeing the materials on those servicemen of merits who have devoted themselves to increasing the combat capability of the unit while serving in it for years, he highly appreciated their feats.
The hearts of the servicepersons of the KPA are beating high with the revolutionary soldier spirit the core of which is the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of implementing his instructions at the risk of their lives and the heroic self-sacrificing spirit, he said, stating that no force on earth can match the strength of the KPA which has inherited the brilliant traditions of the anti-Japanese struggle. After acquainting himself with the unit's performance of duty, he set forth the tasks to be carried out by the unit to increase its combat capability.
Making the rounds of a servicepersons' hall, a library, a photo studio and other entertainment and educational facilities, he praised the unit for having trained all the servicepersons to be indomitable fighters like heroes Ri Su Bok and Kang Ho Yong by effectively conducting the revolutionary education, class education and education in socialist patriotism by various forms and methods.
Enjoying a bird's-eye view of the command of the unit covered with green foliage, he highly praised its commanding officers and soldiers for having kept the compound of the barracks and its surroundings neat and tidy and assiduously managed the unit and its economic life the way the anti-Japanese guerrillas did.
Then he went round a bedroom, a mess hall, a non-staple food store, a food processing room, a wash-cum-bath house, a barber's, an outdoor resting place and other supply service facilities. He appreciated the efforts made by commanding officers and their families, noting it is very good that they are taking deep care of the living of the servicepersons as their real parents would do.
He had a photo session with the servicepersons of the unit. He was accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, First Vice Department Director of the WPK Central Committee Ri Jae Il and Vice Department Director of the same committee Hwang Pyong So.

Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks Open

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA)--The 18th north-south ministerial talks opened here Saturday. Present at the talks from the north side are members of the delegation headed by Chief Councilor of the Cabinet Kwon Ho Ung and its suite members and from the south side members of the delegation with Minister of Unification Ri Jong Sok as its chief delegate and suite members. Kwon Ho Ung and Ri Jong Sok made keynote speeches at the talks. He noted with regret that even with the current talks at hand the south side staged RSOI and Foal Eagle joint military exercises targeted against the dialogue partner. He went on to say: It is the most pressing task to find the earliest possible solutions to these fundamental and principled matters, hurdles lying in the way of improving the inter-Korean relations. A failure to settle these problems would make the ministerial talks meaningless and may put the inter-Korean relations in the danger of freeze. He put forward the north side's proposals to help the north and the south settle principled and fundamental issues in political, military and economic relations. He suggested the authorities of both sides to take practical steps to recognize and respect each other's ideology and system in the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration, called for a complete halt to the joint military exercises with foreign forces from January 2007 with a view to defusing the military tension and removing the danger of war and ensuring peace on the Korean Peninsula, called upon the authorities of the two sides to perform a responsible role in the efforts to achieve great national unity, urged the north and the south to effect cooperation in the economic field substantially conducive to the prosperity common to the nation and called on the north and the south to take strong joint actions against Japan's moves aimed at infringing upon the Korean nation's sovereignty and dignity.
In order to bring about a radical turn in the north-south relations it is necessary for the authorities of the two sides to take the measure of allowing persons of one side to freely visit holy places, places of interest and tourist attractions of the other side on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, he noted, and continued:
If the south side truly desires peace and reconciliation and cooperation, it should not hesitate to take practical measures for easing the military tension and ensuring peace on the peninsula and make a bold political decision to this end. It is necessary for the north and the south to make it a tradition to significantly celebrate June 15 as "Day of By Our Nation Itself" and for delegations of their authorities to participate as chief players in the grand festival for national reunification to open in the area of the south side on the above-said occasion and thus make it meaningful.
He called for taking practical measures to ensure investment and cooperation unlimited in terms of region, classification of business and scale, free from foreign interference and restraint.
The Japanese authorities are now seeking to exercise physical strength to grab Tok Islet, inalienable part of the territory of the Korean nation, asserting that they will search the sea route around the islet, he noted, and said: The north and the south of Korea should take decisive measures to frustrate such moves and thus fulfill their responsibility before the nation and history.
He expressed the hope that the south side would positively respond to the north side's proposals so that they may reach good agreements that would bring joy and hope to the fellow countrymen desirous of fresh progress in the inter-Korean ties. Then followed a speech of the chief delegate of the south side. Saying that both sides should fully understand each other's stand to promote the bilateral relations and create an atmosphere favorable for reconciliation and peace through close cooperation since there are difficulties in store, he set forth proposals. The talks continue.
