U.S.- S. Korea Joint Military Exercises Slammed

Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed commentary. It goes on: These war maneuvers are a preliminary war and a test nuclear war designed to finally examine and round off the preparations for a war against the north and mount a preemptive nuclear attack on it.
This large-scale saber-rattling cannot but be a very dangerous development as it is timed to coincide with the U.S. ever-increasing pressure and escalating conspiratorial plots against the DPRK. The U.S. has not only tightened its financial sanctions against the DPRK and intensified the "human rights" offensive against it but escalated its smear campaign against Pyongyang. As if it were not enough with these moves, it is crying out for a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
It is due to the frantic moves of the U.S. against the DPRK that the six-party talks still remain stalled and confrontation and tensions are festering on the Korean Peninsula. The DPRK has already warned the U.S. and south Korea against the serious consequences to be entailed by these war gambles and strongly demanded a halt to them.
As a matter of fact, the U.S. imperialists' saber-rattling has made the prospects of the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue and the six-party talks gloomier, thrown more obstacles to the process of improving the inter-Korean relations and compelled the north to postpone the inter-Korean ministerial talks.
The U.S. imperialists are a chief disturber of peace, a chieftain of war and a cursed foe of national unity and the reunification of Korea.
The Korean people will stake their lives at the dignity of the nation and the cause of reunification and frustrate the intention of the United States and its allies to invade the DPRK, going against the desire of the Korean nation and the trend of the times, the commentary concludes.

S. Korean Men of Literature and Art Vow to Struggle against Expansion of U.S. Forces Base

Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- A "literary and art festival for peace" and a "candle-light cultural festival" reportedly took place in Taechu-ri, Phyongthaek City, Kyonggi Province in south Korea on Mar. 25. Poets, moviemen and residents there present at those events strongly protested the expansion of the U.S. forces base. They were co-sponsored by the "Literary Forum for Peace of south Korea," the "General Federation of National Artistes of south Korea" and the Joint Action of Men of Literature and Art. Participants in the "literary and art festival for peace" staged a performance, while reciting a poem dealing with the actions of the residents in Phyongthaek to defend their cradle, shouting slogans such as "No expansion of U.S. military base!"
Speakers at the 571st "candle-light cultural festival" said that an anti-U.S. struggle is the only way of protecting their literature, declaring that when the people of all social standings pool their efforts, they will surely emerge victorious in their actions against the expansion of the base.
A statement read out at the function warned if the south Korean authorities use force to offer the area of Phyongthaek to the U.S. forces, all the men of literature and art would struggle against it to the last ounce of their strength.

Immediate Stop to North-Targeted War Exercises Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek, south Korea, reportedly issued a statement on Mar. 26. The statement condemned the aggressive joint military exercises aimed at deterring the inter-Korean relations from improving and threatening peace on the Korean Peninsula and strongly urged the United States and the south Korean authorities to immediately stop them. The U.S. claims these war maneuvers are "annual drills for a defensive purpose" but they are war maneuvers for invading the north launched according to its strategy of a preemptive nuclear attack on the north from every angle as they involve huge armed forces including at least 20,000 U.S. troops and nuclear-powered carrier "Abraham Lincoln", the statement noted.
It condemned the U.S. for busying itself to expand its military base in Phyongthaek in a bid to secure a military stronghold for preempting an attack on the north according to the agreement reached on the "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. troops and the scenarios for a war against the north and the south Korean authorities for yielding to its pressure.

Book and Collection of Poems on DPRK Published in Russia

Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- The Publishing House of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cooperation with Foreign Countries on March 24 brought out book "The DPRK-Invincible Bulwark of Socialism" authored by Vladimir Yakushev, deputy editor of the paper "Rosiskaya Pravda", and a collection of poems "March of Songun Victory" written by Russian poet Alexandr Brezhnev on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the 13th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission.

Application of Double-standards to Nuclear Issue Cannot Be Allowed

Pyongyang, March 30 (KCNA) -- The U.S. should not apply its unreasonable double-standards to the nuclear issue but dismantle its nuclear weapons first of all and stop its moves to threaten other countries with nuclear weapons and mount a preemptive attack, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article. The article castigates the U.S. for applying unreasonable double-standards to the nuclear issue, while pursuing its aggressive and hegemonic nuclear politics turning a deaf ear to the voices of humankind demanding total dismantlement of nukes. It is the consistent military policy and strategic target of the U.S. imperialists to bolster up nuclear forces and hold nuclear supremacy, the article says, and goes on: The U.S. imperialists, considering nukes as almighty means for establishing world domination order, are threatening other countries with them and bringing in dark clouds of a nuclear war.
The U.S. application of double-standards to the nuclear issue finds its expression in conniving, patronizing and assisting its allies' development and production of nuclear weapons while kicking up a row of pressure on those countries whose ideology and system are different from its own over the "nuclear issue". The U.S. is applying double-standards to the nuclear issue according to state relations with itself and its strategic interests.
The U.S. double-dealing attitude in the nuclear issue is a revelation of its unilateralism and highhandedness. Its unreasonable behavior weakens the binding force of the NPT and drives the world to a nuclear arms race. Its nuclear highhandedness reduces the NPT to a good-for-nothing and eggs nuclear-free countries to have nuclear means.
The U.S. is talking about "non-proliferation" while stepping up nuclear arms buildup and modernization and openly pursuing a nuclear war because it has a sinister intension to make anti-imperialist and independent countries victims of its nuclear hard-line policy.
The U.S. anti-DPRK campaign over the nuclear issue of the Korean Peninsula is a typical example of its application of double-standards to the nuclear issue. It is the unfair application of double-standards that the U.S. is scheming to completely check the peaceful nuclear activities of the DPRK, while announcing that it will provide nuclear technique and fuel to some countries outside the NPT.

It strongly demanded the Japanese government take measures for making compensation to the Korean victims of A-bombs as was discussed at the third meeting of the International Council of Solidarity for Demanding Japan Liquidate Its Past held in Pyongyang in September last year. A reporter and speakers at the meeting charged that the Japanese government is obliged to immediately settle the issue of the Korean victims of A-bombs in the light of international law and ethics and morality but it has not taken any practical measure in this respect up to this date.

Reto frontal a aspiracion nacional a reunificacion, senala Rodong Sinmun
