S. Korean Authorities' Pro-American Flunkeyism Assailed

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration in south Korea reportedly made public a statement on Jan. 26 to condemn the authorities for their pro-American flunkeyism and treachery. The statement recalled that the authorities decided to diminish the screen quota of south Korean films by half, saying "it conforms with the interests of the nation."
It warned that if the film market is opened to foreigners, the south Korean moviedom will go bankrupt by the offensive of American films. The authorities sold out the food sovereignty and then cultural sovereignty to the U.S. while agreeing on the permission of the "strategic flexibility" of its forces in south Korea, thus leaving all fields of politics, military, economy and culture to the mercy of the U.S., the statement said, urging the authorities to stop their pro-American treachery at once.

Japan's Bid for Permanent Seat at UNSC Assailed

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- Japan is making more desperate efforts in the new year to get a permanent seat at the UN Security Council. Rodong Sinmun says this today in a signed article.
    It goes on:
It is the ulterior intention of Japan to hold the permanent membership of the UN Security Council with the backing of the U.S., its superior. To this end Japan is busy working out a new "resolution", conducting prior diplomatic activities with the U.S. and so on.
Japan is now taking a series of measures favorable to the U.S. while conducting a political operation to persuade it.
The U.S. is consoling and appeasing Japan, its inferior ally. As said by Japanese news analysts, Japan is not in a position to get sure support from the U.S. for its membership of the UN Security Council. The U.S. does not want growth of the permanent member states in number, which may weaken its special right.
Unless Japan liquidates its past and gains international trust, it will not be able to gain the permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

American-style "Globalization" Bound to Go Bust = Commentary on International Situation =

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- As was known already, the World Social Forum denouncing the U.S. "neo-liberalist" policy was held in Caracas from Jan. 24 to 29. The forum discussed the construction of "socialism in the 21st century" and the ways of countering the U.S. strategy of "globalization" for aggression and plunder. A resolution calling on the international community to conduct a widespread movement against American-style "globalization" was adopted there. During the forum tens of thousands of delegates of political parties and public organizations from different countries made an international march in Caracas under the slogan of "Against War, Imperialism and Neo-Liberalism."
This clearly proves that the struggle of progressives against American-style "globalization" has become an organized one with their clear direction and way of socialism.
It is by no means fortuitous that foreign media estimated the forum as the most significant event in the movement against "globalization". The U.S., preoccupied by the idea of being the "only super power" after the end of the Cold War, tried to revive "cosmopolitism", the old ideological trend thrown away into the dumpage of history, and pressurized other countries and nations of the world to integrate politics, economy, culture and all other fabrics of social life in an American way.
The "globalization" based on the U.S. jungle law-like view of value has caused catastrophic disasters such as financial crises and conflicts in developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin-America. West European businesses introduced the method of American-style management and drank the bitter cup of "neo-liberalistic 'globalization'", with deficit to the tune of billions of U.S. dollars.
Now that the U.S. moves for "globalization" have become all the more frantic under the signboards of "democracy" and "anti-terrorism", the struggle against the moves has become a strong trend of the times in the international political arena.
Cuba, Iran, Belarus and other countries where the U.S. seeks "regime changes" by labeling them "outposts of tyranny" are firmly defending the sovereignty and dignity of their countries from the U.S. "democratization" offensive.
Particularly, in Mideast, the main front of "war on terrorism", the U.S. attempt to bring about "domino" of "democratization" has proved to be futile. Its example is the U.S. failure in its attempt to interfere in the Palestinian parliamentary election.
Commenting on this, the AP on Jan. 26 jeered Bush who has made "democracy" a defining marker for American foreign policy, saying that he got a jolting message to be careful from Palestinian voters. Bush's clarion rhetoric about spreading liberty can yield results that appear counter to the U.S. interests, the press said, noting that's a challenge the U.S. may have to confront someday in other places as well, including Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Central Asia, the Balkans and -closer to home- South America. This can be viewed as a harbinger to the fate of bankruptcy the U.S. "globalization" and "democracy" will meet in the political field.
The U.S. "globalization" in the economic and cultural fields is also rejected in all parts of the world.
In Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and other Latin-American countries the left-wing forces have come to power in succession along the wave of resistance against the "neo-liberalistic" economic management system and IMF and are enforcing popular policies to build new societies of their own style such as revolution for the poor.
The South TV, founded by these countries to counter the U.S. and the West's smear campaign and ideological and cultural poisoning, is increasing its influence on the media field.
The ASEAN member nations have gained a lesson from the catastrophic financial crisis in the latter half of the 1990s and are going toward economic integration for the foundation of the economic community by 2020, etc. Referring to this last April, the Singaporean prime minister announced that changes are taking place in the economic structure of those Asian countries which once tried to achieve prosperity with American, European and Japanese investment.
Independence is progress of history while "globalization" is reaction on history.
The U.S. "globalization" moves are as foolish an act as trying to reverse the trend of history. Such action will be driven out of history by the strong protest of the daily growing independent forces of the world.

Kim Jong Il's Songun Revolutionary Leadership Feats Hailed

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The Songun leadership exploits of the Workers' Party of Korea serve as a valuable treasure that makes it possible for Korean-style socialism to prosper forever along the road of independence. It is the boundless pride and honor of the Korean Army and people to work with this ever-victorious treasured sword. Rodong Sinmun says this Thursday in a signed article.
Leader Kim Jong Il is a peerlessly great man who ushered in the new history of building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation with his great Songun leadership and has performed immortal feats in it, the article says, and goes on:
The feats he has performed in the days of leading the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation with his Songun politics serve as the most valuable treasure of the Korean army and people.
Crystallized in them are the precious ideas and theories that illumine the way of effecting a steady surge in overall socialist construction, the ideological and mental trait and the revolutionary way of work to be possessed by the builders of a great prosperous powerful nation and the firm foundation and rich experience for building it. Kim Jong Il's Songun revolutionary leadership exploits involve political, military, economic, cultural and all other fields and their truth and vitality have been fully proved in revolutionary practice. The prosperity of the socialist country and the happiness of all generations to come are firmly guaranteed by these exploits.

Three-point Patriotic Movement Favored

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The joint meeting of the government, political parties and organizations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea held in Pyongyang on Jan. 26 set this year as "a year of three-point patriotic movement" and ardently called upon the Koreans at home and abroad to turn out in the movement as one. The movement was raised in the joint New Year editorial. The slogan to be held up in the movement for national reunification this year is "Let us vigorously forward the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity under the banner of 'by our nation itself'!"
Advanced at the meeting were proposals for more dynamically pushing ahead with the cause of national reunification on a new stage. Among them is the proposal for observing June 15, the day when the north-south joint declaration was adopted, as the "Day of by our nation itself" and holding a grand reunification festival common to the nation on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 Joint Declaration. The proposal calling for the movement is fully backed by all the fellow-countrymen.
Pak Kyong Chol, vice director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, told KCNA that he would take the patriotic movement as the main task and exert all his strength and energy to the efforts for accomplishing the task.
The Kwangju and South Jolla Provincial Federation of University Student Councils under the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils appealed to the youth and students to shape the destiny of the nation in the van of the movement.
The Society for Cooperation among Koreans in Germany, in a statement, emphasized that in response to the appeal calling for vigorously waging the movement, the Koreans overseas, too, should turn out in the patriotic struggle for national reunification.

Kigwancha Sports Group, 50 Years Old

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- Fifty years have elapsed since the foundation of the Kigwancha (Locomotive) Sports Group of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. President Kim Il Sung saw to it that a comprehensive sports group representing the railway working class of the country was set up in January Juche 45 (1956) during the trying years of post-war rehabilitation and construction, and named it "Kigwancha Sports Group".
Over the last decades, it has developed into a powerful sports group which has displayed the dignity and the honor of the DPRK with signal successes, thus making a great contribution to the development of sports technique.
The group has set new world records in several events and won more than 1,000 medals including some 300 gold medals at international contests including seven Olympic Games, over 30 world championships and over 70 Asian regional sports contests.
People's Athlete Kim Myong Nam renewed world records four times in world weight-lifting championships and other international contests. And Merited Athlete Ri Chol Hon won ten gold medals in international contests, creating a "Ri Chol Hon's Movement", a special side horse skill recognized by the International Gymnastic Federation.
In national contests the group won more than 11,000 medals including many trophies and thousands of gold medals.
Its men footballers have successively won the football matches of the Mangyongdae Cup contests in recent years.
The group, made up with competent coaches, athletes and able scientific and technical personnel, has a solid material and technical foundation such as a training gymnasium for basketball, table-tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, weight-lifting and others, training gymnasiums and grounds for nearly 20 events, and modern cultural and welfare facilities.
The athletes and coaches of the group are intensifying training from the beginning of the year, full of a resolution to glorify the honor of the country with more gold medals.
