Preparatory Committee of Koreans in Russia Inaugurated

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The United Confederation of Koreans in the Far East, Russia, formed the Preparatory Committee for Congratulating the Sun of the 21st Century on Jan. 7 on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. Kwon Chon Sik, chairman of the confederation, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee set a celebration period from Jan. 15 to Feb. 18 and decided to organize colorful functions including a meeting, a photo and book exhibition, a film show and an art performance.

Joint New Year Editorial of DPRK Supported in Different Countries

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- A joint statement was issued by the Asian Regional Committee to Support Korea's Reunification, the All India-Korean Friendship Association and the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and a statement by the British Association for the Study of the Songun Policy on Jan. 4 in support of the joint New Year editorial published in the DPRK. The above-said organizations in India in the joint statement said that the Korean people achieved astonishing victories and successes last year, adding that this would be unthinkable without the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    The statement fully supported the joint editorial which called on all Koreans to wage a dynamic patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and overall national unity this year and thus bring about a new turning-point in the cause of national reunification. Vehemently condemning the U.S. moves to provoke a war against the DPRK, the statement strongly demanded the U.S. administration withdraw its forces, the root cause of aggression and war, from south Korea without delay.
    The British Association for the Study of the Songun Policy in its statement hailed all the tasks put forward in the joint editorial as very just ones. The statement said:
    The joint editorial referred to the significance of the 80th anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union and the 60th founding anniversary of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League to be celebrated this year and the tasks to be tackled to mark these anniversaries.
    We call on all the adherents to the Juche idea of the world to celebrate these important days with splendor.

Plan to Bolster S. Korean Forces Disclosed

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Part of the plan to beef up the south Korean forces was disclosed by the Internet homepage of the "Agency of Defence Affairs" of south Korea, which started its work from Jan. 1, to create furor, according to the south Korean MBC on Jan. 8. What has been disclosed recently is the summary of the "mid-term plan for national defence" aimed at implementing the plan to bolster the south Korean forces, it said. The concrete plan involving more than 250 proposals for the introduction of weapons envisages the spending of 3,700 billion won for developing three heavy submarines, each 3,500 tons, for the navy from 2010 to 2020 and the allocation of 12,000 billion won for developing new-type fighters for the air force till 2018.
    The arms build-up plan once again brings to light the true colors of the pro-U.S. warlike forces toeing the U.S. policy to stifle the north as it was disclosed at a time when the U.S. forces in south Korea are increasing their role to ignite a war of aggression on the Korean Peninsula.

Educational Policy and Opening under Fire in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly held a meeting of its Central Committee on Jan. 6 and announced a "resolution on struggle for campus independence". Referring to the fact that the conservative universities are getting overheated in the hike of registration fees, the resolution said that students expressed indignation at it.
    The "government's" wrong neo-liberal educational policy brings about only irregularities and corruption and the hike of registration fees at universities and destroys the essential conception of education itself, the resolution noted.
    It stressed that the students should wage a determined struggle for settlement of the issue of education.
    It called for making the neo-liberal educational policy withdrawn, blocking educational opening and achieving educational reform in 2006 with all the efforts and wisdom of Hanchongryon.

Russian Ambassador Hosts Reception

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador E.P. to the DPRK Andrei Karlov hosted a reception in honor of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the embassy on Thursday evening on the occasion of the New Year Juche 95 (2006). Present on invitation were Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kung Sok Ung and officials of the ministry.
    On hand were staff members of the Russian embassy. Speeches were made at the reception.

U.S. Persistent Sanctions and Blockade against DPRK Accused

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- It is foolish of the U.S. imperialists to calculate that they can frighten and suffocate the DPRK and bring it to its knees through sanctions and blockade and their illegal sanctions and blockade would get them nowhere. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a by-lined article.
    It cites facts to prove that the above-said dastardly sanctions and blockade had long been in the making and have been systematically imposed upon the DPRK in all fields and they are fraught with increasing danger in the new century.
    The United States has escalated international pressure upon the DPRK so far under the pretext of the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. But it dared not form a united front with its allies and followers in order to tighten collective sanctions and blockade against the DPRK. It is now set to put them into practice in real earnest.
    These moves of the U.S. imperialists are based on their foolish calculation that the DPRK is not in a position to stand up against the U.S., the world's "only superpower", and its economic and diplomatic offensives will bring Pyongyang to its knees. They are blocking the DPRK's trade channels, etc. in a bid to isolate and suffocate it at any cost. Their immediate aim is to force the DPRK to accept their unjust demand that it scrap its nuclear program first at the six-party talks. What merits a more serious attention is that their sanctions and blockade against the DPRK may lead to a war against it. This can be proved by the fact that they launched armed invasion against Iraq while imposing economic sanctions upon it for years.
    The injustice of the above-said sanctions and blockade lies in that they are illegal acts of defying international law and norms governing the relations among countries and swimming against the trend of the overall international situation toward peace and detente in the new century. The U.S. would be well advised to seriously take stock of the setbacks and frustrations it has met in its policy of sanctions and blockage against the DPRK and reexamine it and make a policy switchover, urges the article.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Great Alliance against Conservatism in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean ultra-right conservative forces including the Grand National Party are making desperate efforts to come back to power and the riffraffs forsaken by history after the end of the fascist dictatorship recently formed the "National League of New Right". Rodong Sinmun says this today in a signed article.
    The criminal purpose of the GNP and "New-Right" forces is to check the trends of national cooperation, independent reunification and progressive reform and seize power again, the article points out, and goes on:
    Their purpose is an intolerable and treacherous crime against reunification.
    If the collusion and challenge of the ultra right conservative forces are overlooked in south Korea, such a dark medieval era as that during the "Yusin" dictatorship will come again and a serious result of blocking national reunification will be entailed.
    The reality calls south Korean people of all social standings to a nation-wide struggle to frustrate the moves of the ultra right conservatives to seize power. The south Korean people should rise up in the struggle to check the revival of the fascist rule and achieve great alliance against conservatism to have the GNP dejected and smash the collusion and challenge of the "New-Right" forces.
    No matter how desperately the anti-reunification forces may incite a smear campaign against the DPRK and confrontation, they can never block the present trend of the June 15 era of reunification advancing in the idea of "By our nation itself".
    All the organizations and people of south Korea who want genuine democratic politics, progressive reform, national reconciliation and reunification should achieve great alliance against conservatism to plunge the ultra-right conservative forces and traitorous groups, such as the GNP and "New-Right" forces, into an abyss of total ruin.

Patriotic Movement for National Reunification Called for

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial calls upon the entire Korean nation to vigorously launch the patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity under the banner of "by our nation itself". The three-point patriotic movement most correctly mirrors the unanimous desire and will of the entire Korean nation to frustrate obstructions of the separatists within and without and to bring earlier independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration, and the requirement of the developing realities.
    Last year the U.S. imperialists staged war exercises including the reception, staging, onward movement and integration and Ulji Focus Lens-05, openly revealing their attempt to stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. And recently they are further intensifying the all-round offensive to put pressure upon the DPRK while fabricating and spreading absolutely unreasonable issues including "human rights" and "money counterfeit". The pro-U.S. conservative forces in south Korea are making last-ditch efforts to reverse the era of June 15 reunification to that of confrontation in the past and achieve their wild ambition for power.
    Pak Kyong Chol, vice chief of a department of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, told KCNA that the movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity is the greatest expression of patriotism for the Korean nation at the present juncture.
    All the issues arising in accomplishing the reunification cause, he went on, should be solved by the way of giving priority to the dignity and interests of the nation in line with the requirement of the idea of "by our nation itself" and the nation-first spirit, the spirit of attaching importance to the nation, should be pervaded all places where Koreans live. Herein lies the path of independent reunification.
    So long as the U.S. imperialist aggressive troops driving dark clouds of war over the Korean nation are left intact, it is unthinkable about anti-war and defence of peace. The peace on the Korean peninsula will be achieved only when the entire Koreans wage a nation-wide struggle for forcing U.S. troops out of south Korea to root out the source of war.
    The independent reunification and peace against war can not be realized without achieving the great national unity. The whole nation should achieve the great unity irrespective of ideology, ideal, political party affiliation and position and thus to pave the shortcut to national reunification. When the entire Korean nation displays patriotism in the three-point patriotic movement, a fresh phase for national reunification will be brought about this year, he stressed.

Korean Youth Stand in Van of General Advance

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Young people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are taking the lead in the general onward march of the Songun revolution to make a higher leap full of great ambition and confidence. The soldiers of the Korean People's Army are preparing themselves to be a-match-for-a hundred fighters so as to defeat any enemies at one stroke if they dare invade even an inch of the territorial air, land and waters of the country, demonstrating to the full the might of the revolutionary powerful army of Mt. Paektu.
    Young working people are doing their bit as the vanguard and shock brigade in the socialist economic construction and in the efforts for bringing about a decisive turn in the improvement of people's living.
    True to the intention of the Workers' Party of Korea, which has put forward agriculture as the main front of the economic construction this year, too, the youth league organizations at all levels sent hundreds of thousands of tons of compost and over 12,500 pieces of small farm implements of seven kinds to different co-op farms in the recent four days.
    Youth in North Hwanghae Province disposed of more than 2,500 cubic meters of base rock at their first work this year, opening a prospect to complete the Risang-Miru Plain waterway project in a short span of time.
    Labor feats have been performed from the beginning of the year by young shock brigade members in the construction sites of the Orangchon Power Station, Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station and other large hydro-power stations and by young workers at the Pyongyang Thermal-power Complex and Pukchang Thermal-power Complex.
    Youth coal-miners of the Kujang Area and Pukchang Area Coal Complexes and other coal mines in different parts of the country are turning out more coal than their daily quotas. Among them are members of the Cha Kwang Su youth shock brigades in the Hukryong Coal Mine and Ryongnam Coal Mine. They are carrying out the daily tunneling and coal production assignments at over 150 percent.
    On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, young workers of the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Plant are also effecting an innovation in the electric locomotive production, solving knotty technical problems by themselves.
    Young scientists of the State Academy of Sciences and Academy of Agriculture are devoting themselves to solve technical issues arising in the construction of a powerful economic nation and to attain their research targets for edge-cutting science.

View of Life Carried Forward by Three Generations

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- “Live not for today but for tomorrow”-- this is the view of life of leader Kim Jong Il. This aphorism means that a man should willingly dedicate himself to the future of the fatherland and the happiness of the generations to come, even though he does not enjoy a happy life.
    Long time ago Kim Hyong Jik, grandfather of Kim Jong Il, advanced the idea of “Jiwon” (aim high) that one should make revolution generation after generation with a far-reaching aim.
    President Kim Il Sung, carrying forward this idea, opened up a new path of the Korean revolution. Today the idea throws radiant rays in the generation of Kim Jong Il.
    He, with the lofty outlook on life embodying Jiwon and revolutionary confidence and will, is devoting his all for the happiness of the people. He visited Jagang Province in January Juche 87(1998), the coldest period of the country, and gave field guidance to various units, covering over 2,400-km long path only in six days. Guiding the land rezoning project in North Phyongan Province, he said that the land readjustment was a patriotic cause for all ages and the prosperity of the country, opening up the bright future of the country.
    Looking round a catfish farm constructed by soldiers of the Korean People’s Army, in October Juche 89(2000), he said that the farm was the fine fruition of the lofty spiritual world of the servicepersons living for tomorrow, not for today, with ardent love for the country.
    His becomes the view of life of the army and people of Korea who share the will and feelings with the leader. Herein lies the source of inexhaustible strength for building a great prosperous powerful socialist country.
    Kim Jong Il made public the famous work “Let us live not for today but for tomorrow" on January 14, Juche 85(1996).

GNP's Outcries against Indictment Presented by Unconverted Long-term Prisoners Accused

     Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Those unconverted long-term prisoners who came into the care of the north after undergoing all sorts of pain and sufferings baffling human imagination behind bars for decades in south Korea sent a joint indictment to the south Korean Human Rights Committee and the Committee for the Settlement of the Past History for Truth and Reconciliation through a liaison office in Panmunjom on Jan. 6 in which they condemned the shuddering crimes committed by the successive fascist dictatorial regimes and demanded the punishment of the criminals and an apology and compensation for the damage caused by them. The Grand National Party and other ultra-right conservatives, however, let loose vituperation at them for raising the above-said demands while uttering not a single word about the crimes their predecessors committed.
    The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in information bulletin 914 issued on Jan. 13 termed the outcries made by the GNP as an intolerable insult to the unconverted long-term prisoners and those who fell victim to the fascist dictatorial regimes and a mockery of justice and conscience.
    As already known, the GNP group is made up of clans of the fascist dictators who indiscriminately arrested, tortured and killed those who worked for national reunification and their descendants. It blocked the repatriation of unconverted long-term prisoners till the last moment of this event and totally rejected the June 15 joint declaration that paved a wide avenue for their return to the north, the bulletin says, and goes on: Now it is taking issue with the indictment, while falsifying truth in a bid to give impression that it did the unconverted long-term prisoners favor and saved a drowning man. This irrefutably proves that it is a group of impudent and brazen-faced fascists.
    Worse still, the GNP, which succeeded to the fascist dictatorial regime infamous for hideous human rights abuses, talked nonsense about human rights and the like, daring slander the dignified DPRK. It is shameless and disgusting, indeed.
    The GNP should stand a stern trial of history and the nation. It should face punishment and make an apology and compensation as demanded by the unconverted long-term prisoners before quitting the political scene without delay.
    The south Korean authorities should ensure that an early appropriate measure is taken as regards the joint indictment if they truly want to settle the past history.

EE.UU. no podra doblegar con sancion y bloqueo al pueblo coreano

    　Pyongyang, 13 de enero (ATCC) -- Los imperialistas norteamericanos tratan estupidamente de amedrentar, asfixiar y doblegar al pueblo coreano con la sancion y el bloqueo, pero con tales actos no podran alcanzar ninguno de sus objetivos malsanos. 　Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 13 y prosigue:
    　La sancion y el bloqueo que los yanquis venian perpetrando sistematica y generalmente contra la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea revisten el caracter mas peligroso en el nuevo siglo.
    　Hasta la fecha, Estados Unidos ha arreciado la ofensiva de presion internacional sobre la RPDC acusandola del problema nuclear, pero no se atrevio a formar un frente de los paises aliados y las fuerzas satelites y trazar una operacion colectiva de sancion y bloqueo contra esta. Pero ahora trata de ejecutarlo de modo abierto al considerar que la RPDC no podra enfrentar a la "unica superpotencia" del mundo y la ofensiva economica y diplomatica. Y trata de aislarla y asfixiarla de todas maneras al cortar las vias de comercio exterior de la RPDC. Por inmediato demanda que la RPDC sea primera en la renuncia nuclear a traves de la cita a seis bandas. La mayor gravedad de la cuestion reside en que las maniobras de sancion y bloqueo de EE.UU. contra la RPDC pueden extenderse a una guerra de agresion a esta. Lo prueba la accion de EE.UU. que perpetro la invasion armada a Irak al cabo de aplicar en varios anos la sancion economica contra este pais persico.
    　La injusticia de la sancion y el bloqueo de EE.UU. contra la RPDC reside en que estos actos contravienen a los derechos y las normas de corelaciones internacionales y a la tendencia de la situacion internacional en general del nuevo siglo a la paz y al relajamiento.
    　 Estados Unidos debe sacar seria leccion del fracaso de su politica de sancion y bloqueo contra la RPDC y cambiar su politica con respecto a esta.

Jovenes toman delantera de marcha general

     Pyongyang, 13 de enero (ATCC) -- Los jovenes coreanos se hallan al frente de la marcha general revolucionaria del Songun para dar salto mas alto, llenos de gran esperanza y conviccion. Los militares del Ejercito Popular de Corea que dan prueba plena de la potente hueste revolucionaria originada en el monte Paektu se preparan como soldados que tengan inigualable temple y coraje para combatir cada uno cien enemigos a fin de aniquilar de un golpe a los agresores que se atreven a invadir aunque sea un pedacito de nuestro territorio, cielo y mar.
    Los jovenes trabajadores desempenan el papel de la vanguardia y brigada de choque para operar un viraje decisivo en la construccion de economia socialista y la vida del pueblo.
    En apoyo al proposito del Partido del Trabajo de Corea de tomar este ano tambien la agricultura como frente de prioridad de la construccion economica, las organizaciones de la union de juventud de todo el pais enviaron en los primeros 4 dias del ano nuevo cientos de miles de toneladas de estiercol y mas de 12 mil 500 implementos agricolas de 7 generos a las granjas cooperativas en las localidades del pais.
    En la primera jornada de trabajo del ano nuevo los jovenes de la provincia de Hwanghae del Norte eliminaron rocas de mas de 2 mil 500 metros cubicos abriendo asi una perspectiva para terminar en un corto espacio de tiempo la obra del canal Risang-llanura Miru.
    Las proezas laborales y exitos productivos se logran desde los primeros dias del ano nuevo por los jovenes de los Complejos Termoelectricos de Pyongyang y Pukchang y de los lugares de construccion de las centrales hidroelectricas de gran tamano, entre otras, Orangchon y la Juventud Songun- Paektusan. Los jovenes de los Complejos Carboniferos de las zonas de Kujang y Pukchang y de otras minas de carbon sobrecumplen sus planes diarios. En el ano nuevo los integrantes de la "Brigada de Choque Juvenil Cha Kwang Su" de las minas carboniferas de Hukryong y Ryongnam sobrecumplieron en mas de 50 por ciento sus planes diarios de perforacion y extraccion y amplian mas sus exitos.
    A fin de celebrar con exitos laborales el sexagesimo aniversario de la fundacion de la Union de la Juventud Socialista Kim Il Sung, los jovenes de la Fabrica de Locomotoras Electricas Kim Jong Thae logran innovaciones en la produccion solucionando con sus propias fuerzas dificiles problemas tecnicos. Tambien, los cientificos jovenes de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias y la Academia de Ciencias Agricolas dedican todo su entusiasmo para solucionar los problemas tecnicos que se presentan en la construccion de una gran potencia economica y alcanzar nuevas metas de investigacion de la ciencia de punta.

Concepcion de la vida de la familia de Kim Jong Il

    　Pyongyang, 13 de enero (ATCC) -- "Vivir hoy no para hoy sino para el futuro" - esta concepcion de la vida del Dirigente Kim Jong Il y tambien titulo de su obra publicada el 14 de enero del 85 (1996) de la Era Juche significa que uno debe vivir decidido a sacrificarse para el futuro radiante de la patria y la felicidad de las generaciones venideras aunque el mismo no pueda disfrutarla por ahora. Ya hace mucho tiempo, Kim Hyong Jik, abuelo del Dirigente, presento la idea "Jiwon", segun la cual hay que hacer la revolucion de generacion en generacion con gran proposito.
    Al desarrollar esta idea de su padre, el Presidente Kim Il Sung allano un nuevo camino de la Revolucion Coreana. La idea "Jiwon" lanza mas brillos en la epoca del Dirigente Kim Jong Il.
    　Tomandola por su noble concepcion de la vida y credo revolucionario, el Dirigente siempre dedica todo lo suyo para la felicidad del pueblo. Al visitar la provincia de Jagang en enero del 87 (1998) de la Era Juche, cuando hacia mucho frio, recorrio en solo 6 dias mas de 6 mil ri (10 ri equivalen a 4 kilometros). Y abrio un futuro mas maravilloso de la patria en la provincia de Phyong-an del Norte al estimular a los movilizados en el ordenamiento de la tierra subrayando que esta labor es una causa patriotica para la prosperidad eterna del pais.
    Durante su visita en octubre del 89 (2000) de la Era Juche a un criadero de siluros construido por los militares del Ejercito Popular de Corea, dijo muy emotivo que esta orgullosa creacion es un valioso producto del noble mundo espiritual del EPC que vive hoy no para hoy sino para el futuro dando pruebas de su gran patriotismo.
    Hoy, la concepcion de la vida del Dirigente ha sido la de toda Corea donde decenas de millones de militares y habitantes comparten la misma idea y aspiran el mismo aire con su lider. Ademas, deviene fuente inagotable de las fuerzas que empujan la construccion de una gran potencia socialista prospera.
