National Seminar on Juche Idea Held in Finland

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A national seminar on the Juche idea was held in Helsinki on Nov. 12 under the sponsorship of the Finnish National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea. The chief of the Finnish Group for the Study of Works of Comrade Kim Jong Il in his speech referred to the fact that the Korean people have won victory after victory, working world-astonishing historic miracles in the revolution and construction, holding aloft the banner of the Juche idea. The director of the "Komin Forum" Information Agency said that the U.S. moves against the DPRK are a crude violation of international law and order, adding that it was a just measure for defending the independence of the country and socialism that the DPRK has built up powerful armed forces. The chairman of the Finnish National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea clearly proved the originality, justness and great vitality of the Juche idea and highly praised the immortal Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung as the guiding idea of progressive mankind in the 21st century. A message to leader Kim Jong Il was adopted at the seminar.

Authorities' Policy for Opening Rice Market under Fire

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A memorial service for O Chu Ok, director for cultural affairs of the Women Farmers' Association in Songju County, North Kyongsang Province, who committed a suicide in protest against the authorities' opening of the rice market and a "national meeting of farmers for checking the rice market opening and Bush's visit to south Korea" reportedly were held in Pusan on Nov. 18. Speakers said at the service and meeting that she did not commit a suicide, but she was murdered by the neo-liberal "globalization" and the system of WTO. Noting that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for having reduced the Korean farmers to the poor and made them suffer, they assailed the governmental authorities for busying themselves with pleasing the U.S., lending no ear to the farmers' demands.
It is the duty of the surviving farmers to drive the U.S. out of south Korea because it is forcing the neo-liberal "globalization" upon it. The participants chanted slogans "Let farmers take the lead in the struggle to smash the neo-liberal 'globalization'" and "We oppose the U.S. pressurizing south Korea to open its rice market."

Remains of Sok Ji Min Buried in Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) --The remains of Sok Ji Min, people's actor of the State Merited Chorus of the Korean People's Army, were buried in the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery on the outskirts of Pyongyang on Nov. 21. Sok sang revolutionary and militant songs for over three decades upholding the Songun policy and music policy of Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il, thus rendering a great service for encouraging the servicepersons and people in the struggle to defend the country and build a great prosperous powerful nation.
Sok, as a leading singer in the chorus, successfully represented many songs including "Thunder on Jong Il Peak", "General Is Great Defender" and "Vast Land of Taehongdan" and placed first in an international vocal concours and national performing art contests.
A burial ceremony took place and wreaths were placed before his grave.
The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of the deceased.
Present there were leading officials of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, officials, creators and actors and actresses of the chorus and his bereaved families and relatives.
On the same day, the remains of Sok Kwang Hui, father of the Late Sok, who was writer of the C.C., the Korean Writers Union, were buried by the side of his son's grave in the cemetery.

U.S. "Annual Report on Religious Freedom" Rebuffed

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The United States in a recent "annual report on religious freedom" in different countries of the world listed eight countries including the DPRK as "states suppressing religion," charging that those countries are still suppressing religious freedom. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: This is part of the U.S. moves to tarnish the image of the DPRK and isolate and stifle anti-U.S. countries one by one.
The U.S. authorities have found fault with the religious views and faith criticizing or refusing to accept the American-style bourgeois view on value and life style, persecuted, arrested and killed religionists for offering resistance to the U.S., discontent with its anti-popular and unequal state and social system. They have not hesitated to suppress and kill foreign religionists.
The United States has dared slander the DPRK and list it as a "state suppressing religion" from its self-righteous and hostile point of view. This is an open interference in the internal affairs of the DPRK and a political provocation to it. This is, at the same time, a violation of the joint statement adopted at the fourth six-way talks that calls for respect for sovereignty and peaceful co-existence.
Since the publication of the joint statement the U.S. administration has increased its pressure upon its dialogue partner as evidenced by its steps to apply sanctions against the DPRK such as financial sanctions in contravention of the spirit and requirements of the statement. Meanwhile, a whole string of remarks intended to interfere in the internal affairs of the DPRK is heard from among senior U.S. officials, a serious provocation to it. The U.S. diatribe against the DPRK over its "religious issue" is an extension of its smear campaign.
These facts prompt the DPRK to judge that the U.S. administration feels very uncomfortable with the joint statement and deliberately lay obstacles to its implementation.
If the U.S. truly wants the implementation of the joint statement for denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula it should stop its hostile sanctions and pressure campaign against the DPRK.

Japan Urged to Redress Its Past

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries have not yet sincerely apologized and repented of the monstrous crimes Japan committed in the past after invading Asian countries including Korea. Any delay in Japan's liquidation of its past would only add to its crimes. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday warns this in a signed article.
    It continues:
Japan should honestly reflect on its crime-woven past for its own sake, not for others.
The atrocities committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past are unpardonable in view of the human ethics and morality and international law. But the Japanese government is working hard to evade the responsibility for these crimes that went beyond the imagination of the world people and insisting that Japan did nothing wrong in the past in a bid to deceive the international community.
Japan is now standing isolated and rejected by them for trying to shun its responsibility to liquidate its past. The anti-Japan protest actions that have taken place in Asian countries in recent years are a clear message to Japan keen to distort and cover up its past crimes and evade its responsibility for them. It is due to the despicable and wicked stand of Japan to go without settling its past crimes that the conflict between the DPRK and Japan is steadily aggravating. Japan's liquidation of its past is the best way for terminating the hostile relations between the DPRK and Japan and normalizing the bilateral ties. Without it, it is hard to expect an end to the hostile relations and the normalization of the ties between the two countries. Japan would be well advised to face up to the trend of the times and make a bold decision to redress its past.
The development and prospect of Japan do not hinge upon its militarization or reinvasion but lie in breaking with its past and take the road of peace. This is the only way for Japan to survive and win international confidence.
Japan would be well advised to behave with discretion.

Papers Hail Opening of National Meeting of Mothers

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang-based papers today warmly hail the opening of the 3rd national meeting of mothers here. The 1st national meeting of mothers took place in November 1961 in the presence of President Kim Il Sung and the 2nd meeting was held in 1998. The 3rd meeting will prove to be a historic meeting strikingly demonstrating the noble ideological and moral qualities of the mothers and other women in the DPRK united close around the headquarters of the revolution and mark a significant occasion in fully showcasing the revolutionary spirit of the Korean women who play a great role in the revolution and construction and in the training of the rising generation, Rodong Sinmun notes in an editorial, and goes on:
The women have a very important task to fulfill as they are turning one of the wheels of revolution.
The meeting will offer opportunities to widely introduce the examples and experience of those mothers who gave birth to many babies or took care of many orphans as they would do their own children and brought up them as human bullets and bombs, reliable pillars for building a great prosperous powerful nation and heroes and other women who have performed great feats assisting the army, the education of the rising generation, drive for building a great prosperous powerful nation. The meeting will give further momentum to the dynamic social movement for learning from them and help bring about a fresh turn in the education of the younger generation and markedly raise the role of the women as a mighty force for building a great prosperous powerful nation. The opening of the meeting is a clear proof of the great policy followed by the WPK to put the dignity of the mothers and other women on the highest level and take care of their destiny and future in a responsible manner.
The editorial calls upon all mothers and other women to remain true to the Songun idea and policy, firmly uphold and thoroughly implement them and eternally glorify the country as a big harmonious family, its society as a society where the benevolent policy of leader Kim Jong Il is in full bloom. Minju Joson editorially calls upon all mothers and other women to bear their duties they have assumed before the revolution and times in mind and remain true to the Songun idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il and thus strikingly demonstrate the Korean women's wisdom and revolutionary stamina to the whole world.

Opening of Rice Market in S. Korea under Fire

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea vehemently denounced with surging national indignation the fascist security authorities' brutal crackdown upon the south Korean farmers in their just struggle against the traitorous opening of the rice market. He said this in a statement issued Monday. Referring to the incessant mass struggle waged by the farmers in protest against the authorities' scheme to open the rice market in south Korea on which the fate of the farmers hinges upon, yielding to the U.S. pressure, the statement termed the south Korean authorities' moves to open the rice market an intolerable unpopular and treacherous act of serving the outsiders and sacrificing the south Korean farmers.
It is quite natural and just for the south Koreans to have turned out against the passage of the proposal on rice negotiations through the National Assembly to defend the nation's agriculture.
The security authorities' fascist suppression of those farmers that resulted in wounding hundreds can never be overlooked.
No one can pardon those who try to sacrifice the interests of the farmers, yielding to the pressure of the U.S. and other outsiders, while talking about people's mindset and people's livelihood.
The fascist security authorities should bear due responsibility and apologize to the nation for their violent crackdown upon the farmers' just actions and the south Korean authorities should immediately meet their just demands.

Struggle against Scheme to Revive Pro-U.S. Conservative Regime Called for

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The Seoul District Federation of University Student Councils under the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils was reported to have called on all the people to unite and foil the plot of the U.S. and its lackeys anti-reunification forces to revive the pro-U.S. conservative "regime." Kim Ro Jin, chairman of the organization, in an appeal on Nov. 17 disclosed the U.S. and anti-reunification forces' scheme to block the reunification on the Korean Peninsula at any cost and bring pro-U.S. conservative "government" back to south Korea.
The general orientation of the struggle of youth and students in the latter half of this year is to put a break on the U.S. and its follower forces' moves to bring back the pro-U.S. conservative regime and deal a blow at them, the appeal said, calling for waging a widespread struggle to eliminate the pro-U.S. conservative forces beginning with an all-people rally for the abolition of the "National Security Law" on Dec. 3.

Rodong Sinmun on Spirit of Devotedly Defending Leader

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The might of the Workers' Party of Korea and our revolutionary ranks has grown stronger than ever before. This is attributable to the fact that the hearts of all servicepersons and people are beating high, guided by the idea and will of the headquarters of the Songun revolution and the spirit of devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution fully displayed in the annals of the Korean revolution has developed into the thought and sentiment of all people. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
The army and people of the DPRK find their worthwhile life and happiness in absolutely trusting and following leader Kim Jong Il and remaining loyal to him.
There can be no motherland nor can we exist without Kim Jong Il. This is the invariable faith of all the servicepersons and people. It is the revolutionary view on life of the army and people of the DPRK to regard it as something most sacred and honorable to devote their lives to protecting him. Their transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader founds its clear expression, first of all, in defending the safety of the headquarters of the revolution at the cost of their lives.
The Korean people are a revolutionary people struggling through thick and thin to devotedly defend their leaders. It is the revolutionary faith of the army and people of the DPRK that their youth and lives have their worth in protecting the safety and authority of Kim Jong Il and it is honor to have joy and suffer sorrow and ordeals in the way of ensuring the security of the headquarters of the revolution.
The transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader of the army and people of the DPRK has been fully displayed in the struggle to firmly defend and faithfully implement the idea and line of Kim Jong Il.
The army and people of the DPRK have absolutely followed the idea and line of the leader and resolutely defended and thoroughly implemented them. They have maintained the firm stand and attitude of accepting the idea and line of their leader as the most just one and immutable truth and carrying out the revolution and construction strictly on this basis and absolutely and unconditionally implemented the idea and line to the letter under any conditions and situation. This is their revolutionary traits.
Their transparent spirit of devotedly defending the leader has also been fully displayed in eternally glorifying the immortal leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il.

KCNA Refutes Anti-DPRK Human Rights Resolution

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) --The EU-introduced "resolution on human rights" in the DPRK was railroaded through the Third Committee of the 60th UN General Assembly recently. The resolution termed the DPRK a serious human rights abuser on the basis of sheer lies and fabrications about all aspects of its human rights performance.
The DPRK vehemently rejected and assailed this as it was a product of the unconditional subservience of Britain and some other EU countries to the U.S. which has followed a human rights policy aiming at the politicization of the human rights issue on the international arena and the U.S.-led moves to realize a "regime change" in the DPRK.
The resolution clearly proved that the EU is keen to interfere in the internal affairs of the DPRK and a "regime change" in it pursuant to the U.S. moves to stifle the DPRK.
What the U.S. and its allies target against in their smear campaign against the DPRK over its human rights issue is its inviolable political system. Finding it hard to force the DPRK to abandon its "nuclear program" first and disarm itself, the present U.S. administration is keen to bring down its system under the pretext of its "human rights abuse" and working hard to put this scheme into practice.
They consider the DPRK which maintains independence in the international arena with firm political faith as a thorn in their eyes. If a "regime change" is what they seek to realize through the solution to the north Korean human rights issue it is as foolish an act as trying to break a rock with eggs.
Human rights are to be protected and promoted by each country in a responsible manner. So it is none of the business of the U.S. or the EU. Human rights would be nothing but rhetoric if they are not guaranteed by state sovereignty. If human rights are to be protected one should have national power and, accordingly, have powerful deterrent to defend it.
Man-centered Korean-style socialism is, in essence, genuine popular socialism which was chosen by the Koreans themselves and which enjoys absolute trust and support from them. Herein lie the stability and invincibility of Korean-style socialism.
Korean-style socialism remains unfazed despite whatever storm and stress as it is protected by powerful deterrent for self-defence. What matters here is that specific countries are excluded from discussing human rights issues in the UN and that only those developing countries incurring the U.S. displeasure are selected as targets of its human rights offensive.
Moreover, those countries that sponsored the "resolution" are most hideous human rights abusers such as the U.S., Britain and Japan which have refused to apologize and compensate for the crimes they have committed against humanity after launching wars of aggression and murder against other countries for a whole century.
It is quite illogical for such countries to talk about "poor human rights record" in other countries in the international arena.
It is funny enough for Britain and some other EU countries to take issue with some countries' "human rights record" just to please the U.S., while allowing their political image to be damaged in the international arena.
The recent resolution cannot be construed otherwise than a politically-motivated document to please the U.S.
The anti-DPRK smear campaign over its "human rights issue" should, therefore, be halted at once.

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The Korea Stamp Corporation has recently published new stamps (five sheetlets) showing historical remains and relics in Kaesong including the Mausoleum of King Wang Kon, Koryo Songgyungwan and Ryongthong Temple. Kaesong was the capital of Koryo (918-1392), the unified country in Korea. It has a lot of remains and relics representing the times. The sheetlet introducing the Mausoleum of King Wang Kon contains the stamps showing the general view and front-gate of the mausoleum, monument to the reconstruction of the mausoleum of Wang Kon, founder-king of Koryo, portrait of the king, and monument to the burying of the King and queen in a grave.

The sheetlet of the Pakyon Waterfall, one of the three famous waterfalls in Korea, reflects the Ryong Rock (dragon), Taehung Mountain Fort and its Puk Gate, Pomsa Pavilion, and Taeung Hall and Buddhist images of the Kwanum Temple. They are printed against the Pakyon Waterfall and a poem written in praise of it by poetess Hwang Jin I (in the first half of the 16th century).
There is another sheetlet dealing with historical relics including the Nam Gate of Kaesong, mausoleum of King Kongmin, Sonjuk Bridge, Anhwa Temple and remains kept there.

Historical Relics on Show

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A newly discovered historical relics show is going on at the Korean Central History Museum in Pyongyang. On display there are 119 pieces of 49 items out of many historical relics which have been discovered and collected by the Archeological Institute under the Academy of Social Science, an academic group of the Korean Central History Museum, servicepersons and people of the country. The skulls of a child and two adults unearthed in lava of Soksong-ri, Hwadae County of North Hamgyong Province, are fossils of Paleolithic persons belonging to the middle of the Paleolithic era.
A spiral-patterned clayware shows well the representation and aesthetic view of the people in the Neolithic era on the nature. There are also a fine striped mirror, narrow-shaped brass dagger and other relics reflecting developed bronze metallurgical and casting technology in the period of Kojoson (Ancient Korea).
A pipha-shaped dagger excavated in a flat stone tomb in Sinsong-dong of Sunan District, Pyongyang, is a relic in the period going over to the culture of narrow-shaped brass dagger from that of the pipha-shaped dagger. The relic involves the features of the two daggers. A fine striped mirror was also unearthed in the tomb.
Scores of relics have been found out in the newly unearthed tomb No. 3 in Thaesong-ri, Kangso County, South Phyongan Province and the mural tomb in Songjuk-ri, Yonthan County, North Hwanghae Province, which belong to the period of the Kingdom of Koguryo. Among them are beads, bracelet, pillar-eave ornaments and a silver hairpin.
The Thaesong-ri tomb No. 3 is a king's mausoleum level tomb similar to the Anak tomb No. 3 in its structure and form.
Seen at the show are relics belonging to the periods of Koryo and Ri Dynasty.
Gilt bronze statues of Goddess of Mercy which are 81.3 cm and 63 cm in height respectively, porcelain plate embossed with the pattern of lotus flower, large porcelain bowl inlaid with the patterns of chrysanthemum flower, willow branch and water-bird and porcelain lipstick box inlaid with the pattern of crane show the then highly developed industrial art technology.
The relics belonging to the period from the primitive times to the Ri Dynasty show the superiority of the Korean nation with time-honored history and prove that Korea is a cradleland of the human culture.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary's Reckless Remarks under Fire

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- Abe who recently took office as chief cabinet secretary of Japan expressed his intention to visit the "Yasukuni Shrine" in the future, too. This bespeaks that he is a political imposter who does not hesitate to infringe upon even national interests in order to satisfy his own political ambition. Minju Joson Tuesday observes this in a signed commentary. It goes on:
He is playing such a political gamble which would likely do harm to the national interests of Japan at a time when it is in the grip of a serious diplomatic quagmire due to the Japanese authorities' wrong attitude and stand toward the issue of the shrine. This was prompted by his ambition to register results and cut a conspicuous figure in the political camp in a bid to garner support from the people and emerge next prime minister.
He is keen to carry out this political task by taking the lead in distorting history and reviving militarism. He is crafty enough to link militarist overseas invasion with "patriotism" and "nationalism" and paint himself as a true patriot and nationalist in a bid to win people's favor. There are not a few political charlatans as Abe in Japan. Japanese politicians, if they have conscience, would be well ]advised to think over what will be entailed by Japan's moves for militarization and turn to the Right.
