Songun Politics of WPK Praised by Foreign Figure

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- The Songun politics pursued by the Workers' Party of Korea serves as a basis for the development of the DPRK and as a key driver behind the reunification movement of the Korean nation to reunify the country in the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Guy Dupre, secretary general of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea, said this in a statement issued on Oct. 7 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the WPK.
He noted in his statement that over the last six decades the WPK has played a decisive role in the Korean revolution and the socialist construction and successfully frustrated the imperialist's vicious moves for igniting a war to isolate and stifle socialist Korea and block the Korean reunification and, furthermore, dominate the whole of the Korean Peninsula.
    He continued:
The WPK is now making steady success in its efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation under the outstanding leadership of Kim Jong Il. The International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea significantly celebrates the 60th birthday of the WPK together with the Korean people and extends firm support and solidarity to the Korean people in their just cause of the independent and peaceful reunification of the country. Achieving the Korean reunification, a great just cause in our era, precisely means a common cause of the world people for sovereignty and independence, progress and peace.

Proposal for Founding DFRK Supported

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Jorge Bornhausen, chairman of the Party of Liberal Front of Brazil, warmly congratulated the Workers' Party of Korea on its 60th birthday when he met DPRK Ambassador to his country Pak Hyok on Oct. 10. Supporting the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo set forth by President Kim Il Sung, he noted his party hoped the Korean people would achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea free from foreign interference.

WPK Birthday Celebrated in Different Countries

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- A lecture meeting, seminar, book and photo exhibition were held in Italy, Tanzania and Benin from Oct. 5 to 8 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea. On display were works of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, books and photos showing their immortal exploits in party building. Roberto Gabriele, general secretary of the Movement for Peace and Socialism of Italy, said in a lecture that the WPK is powerfully advancing along the road of victory under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, who is identical with Kim Il Sung and building a great prosperous powerful nation, bravely overcoming the U.S. imperialists' political and military pressure and economic sanctions to stifle socialism with the might of single-minded unity. Miriam Pelegrini Feri, chairperson of the Group of Dialectical Materialists of Italy, said in a speech that the justness of the WPK policy is proved by the present reality in which socialism of Korea is being firmly defended and the DPRK has become a strong country squarely standing against the United States which styles itself the "only superpower" of the world.
Francis Fanuel Lyimo, chairman of the Tanzanian National Coordinating Committee of the Juche Idea Study Groups stressed in a speech that the WPK has firmly defended the sovereignty of the country and socialism and wrought a historic miracle in building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation as it is guided by the Songun idea based on the Juche idea.
Hessou Kohovi, chairman of the Benin National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea and General Kim Jong Il's Works, in a speech noted that through his visit to the DPRK he realized the might of the single-minded unity of the Korean army and people. He called on the participants to support the Korean people in their struggle to achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
Meanwhile, seminars were held from Oct. 7 to 12 by the Bangladesh Institute of the Juche Idea, the Al Usubuu Al Riadih Paper Office of Syria, the Lebanon Federation of Trade Unions and the Nigerian Journalists Union.
The seminars stressed that the WPK is a great party that is firmly preserving and brilliantly carrying forward the tradition of the single-minded unity centering on the leader.
A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the seminar held in Bangladesh.

Withdrawal of U.S. Plans for Aggression War Demanded

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity and the People's Solidarity of south Korea reportedly held a press conference in front of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan, Seoul, on Oct. 11 to demand the withdrawal of the U.S. plans for a war of aggression. At the press conference, speakers noted it was disclosed that the U.S. and the south Korean authorities agreed to modify and make the "OPLAN 5027" up-to-date in a bid to invade the north by force of arms. They stressed that all the plans for a preemptive attack upon the north should be abolished.
The south Korean military authorities worked out and signed the war plans, pursuant to the U.S., they said, branding it as an unpardonable crime against the Korean nation.
A letter of protest to the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" read out at the press conference said that if it is true that the U.S. affirmed at the joint statement of the fourth round of the six-party talks that it has no will to attack or invade the north with nukes or conventional weapons, it should immediately withdraw all its war plans.
The south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command", a subordinate mechanism for war and domination, should be dismantled and the U.S. troops be withdrawn at once, the letter said, warning that the U.S. should know that if it continues committing the war threat and infringement upon sovereignty, it would face the stronger anti-U.S. struggle

Japanese Ruling Quarters' Moves for Overseas Expansion under Fire

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- The Japanese ruling quarters are now working hard to perpetuate the presence of troops of their "Self-Defence Forces (SDF)" in Iraq and other countries at any cost. In this regard Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says in a signed commentary:
The Japanese ruling quarters have always justified the overseas advance of the SDF under the pretexts of "war against terrorism" and "preservation of peace", but with nothing can they cover up their wild ambition.
The overseas advance and presence of troops of the SDF are, in essence, aimed at realizing Japan's wild ambition for overseas expansion. Availing itself of the changing balance of forces on the international arena, Japan is keen on achieving its wild ambition for overseas expansion. Japan is working hard to realize this ambition under the pretext of assisting the U.S. troops. "The law on special measures against terrorism" now in force in Japan is designed to provide a legal guarantee for its moves for overseas expansion, backed by the U.S.
Japan is also speeding up the establishment of the missile defence system. It is contemplating introducing new type missile tracking equipment into Japan from the U.S. under the pretext of "missile threat from the DPRK". This is an indication that Japan is keen to realize its wild ambition for overseas expansion come what may.
The Japanese chief executive recently issued an order to speed up the discussion on the realignment of the U.S. troops in Japan. Japan's moves for military overseas expansion under the patronage of the U.S. are fraught with ever-increasing danger and gravity. The Korean Peninsula is made the first target of Japan's wild ambition for overseas expansion. It is as clear as daylight that in case a new war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, the troops of the SDF will be hurled into it.
Such a crisis would only lead Japan once again to destruction.
Japan would be well advised to ponder over this.

Probe into Traces of Uranium Missing in South Korea Urged

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Papers here Tuesday come out with commentaries demanding a thorough probe into a hideous criminal case in which hundreds of tons of uranium were recently reported missing in the course of the deal between the U.S. and south Korea in nuclear substance. Rodong Sinmun in a by-lined commentary terms the incident a serious criminal case which can never be covered up.
The U.S. has persistently raised a hue and cry over someone's "enriched uranium program," creating impression that the delayed settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is attributable to this "program." The recently disclosed case, however, irrefutably proves that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for blocking the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and disturbing peace in Asia.
The south Korean authorities as well as the U.S. and the IAEA are accountable for this case.
The south Korean authorities now pretend to be upright as regards the nuclear issue, talking about "unbelievable shame" and "need to confirm" in a bid to gloss over the case of more than 200 tons of uranium reported missing. But this is a miscalculation.
The above-said case is a product of the anti-peace, anti-national criminal moves as it is detrimental to the denuclearization of the peninsula and aimed at starting a nuclear war. It should be, therefore, thoroughly probed in such a manner quite understandable to the public at home and abroad. The "denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula" touted by the U.S. and the south Korean authorities without doing so is nothing but hypocrisy. A news analyst of Minju Joson urges the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to clarify where the missing uranium has gone and what it is used for in a manner understandable to the public at home and abroad and the IAEA to properly handle this case.

Rodong Sinmun on Japan's Liquidation of Past

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- It entirely depends on Japan's liquidation of the past whether the DPRK and Japan will pull down the long-frozen political barrier and normalize diplomatic relations or not, says Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed article. The paper cites concrete materials to expose that Japanese imperialists' aggression of Korea and their colonial military fascist rule over it for over 40 years are the most brutal state-sponsored crimes unprecedented in world history.
The Japanese imperialists brutally killed more than one million innocent Koreans, forcibly drafted and kidnapped over 8.4 million young and middle-aged Korean people to force medieval slavery labor upon them and use them as cannon fodder of war. They reduced 200,000 Korean women into sexual slaves, destroyed and plundered valuable cultural assets and tremendous natural resources and products of Korea and tried to do away with the peculiar national customs of Korea.
Japan's "high-rate growth" has been made at the cost of the blood shed by Korean people, the article points out, and goes on:
The hatred and revenge of the Korean people against Japan are going to extremes and it is an unchangeable will of the Korean people to make Japan pay for its past crimes at any cost.
To liquidate the past is Japanfs unavoidable state responsibility, moral duty and obligation under the international law and the unanimous demand of world conscience.
It is the present international trend to repent of and redress the wrongdoings of the past. But only Japan has not yet liquidated its past even though 60 years have passed since its defeat.
Japan is seeking to use the issue of liquidation of its past as a political bargaining for its sinister purpose and make a profit. This is an unreasonable and foolish attempt. Japan should not dream of normalising bilateral relations without liquidating its past.
Japan should change its wrong attitude, clearly aware that the liquidation of the past is not a mere issue of history but the most urgent and serious political issue to be settled between the DPRK and Japan and a key to the normalization of bilateral relations.
Never should it go unnoticed that Japan has persistently put the "issue of abduction" to the fore. What Japan seeks is to avoid its liquidation of the past infinitely and get any concession from the DPRK under the pretext of the "abduction issue." This is a revelation of Japan's nonsense, moral vulgarity, diplomatic immaturity and ignorance of the era.
Japan should sincerely implement its commitments to the settlement of the past as referred to in the joint statement following the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.
The Korean people will settle accounts with the crimes of Japan and make it pay dearly for them in the new century.

After receiving the credentials the president had a conversation with the ambassador.

Roast Chestnuts and Sweet Potatos Popular in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Stalls along streets in Pyongyang are drawing customers for roast chestnuts and sweet potatoes these days. According to Kim Sung Thaek, a department director of the Ministry of Commerce, the commercial and catering service networks under the Pyongyang City Bureau for the Guidance of Public Service and the Pyongyang City People's Committee started serving roast chestnuts and sweat potatoes on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the Workers' Party of Korea. There are more than 310 roast chestnut and sweat potato stalls only in the main streets of the city, he added.
President Kim Il Sung instructed officials concerned to take measures for providing Pyongyang citizens with roast chestnuts and sweet potatoes. In order to carry it into practice leader Kim Jong Il saw to it that roast chestnut and sweat potato stalls have been set up in streets and chestnuts and sweat potatoes preferentially supplied to the city.
Amid such care, stalls never ceased to serve roast chestnuts and sweat potatoes even in the period of the "Arduous March" and the forced march. The odor of roast chestnuts and sweat potatoes is a unique flavor in Korea during autumn.

Wreaths Laid before Tomb of Ri Po Ik

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- Wreaths were placed before the tomb of ardent patriot Ri Po Ik at Mangyongdae today on her 46th death anniversary. Standing before her tomb was a wreath sent by leader Kim Jong Il.
Lined up before the tomb were guards of honor of the Korean People's Army.
Present at a wreath-laying ceremony were Choe Thae Bok, Choe Yong Rim, Kim Ki Nam, Kwak Pom Gi and officials of the party and power organs, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the KPA and working people in Pyongyang.
Amidst the playing of the wreath-laying music wreaths were laid in the name of the Central Committee of the WPK, ministries, national institutions, military schools, scientific, public health and media organs, party and power organs and farms in the city.
The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of the undying exploits of the ardent patriot who helped her family members participate in the revolutionary struggle and devoted all her life to the noble cause for the country and the people.

U.S. Anti-DPRK Diatribe Assailed

Pyongyang, October 18 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK answered the following question put by KCNA on Oct. 18 as regards the U.S. escalated anti-DPRK smear campaign: The United States is putting into practice sanctions blocking the legitimate financial transaction of the DPRK while making much ado about its "illegal deals such as drug deal and counterfeit notes".
As a matter of fact, the DPRK does not feel any need to refute every fiction about "illegal deals" spread by the U.S. Its recent diatribe is nothing but a version of the trite psychological warfare conducted by the U.S. administration to justify its hostile policy toward the DPRK as the former has slandered the latter by attaching a variety of labels such as "part of an axis of evil" and "a rogue state."
In other words, the U.S. administration's evermore undisguised smear campaign against the DPRK is prompted by its foolish ambition to impair the ever-rising prestige of the dignified DPRK and put international pressure upon it in a bid to shake its "system." This indicates that the U.S. remains unchanged in its real intention to "bring down the system" in the DPRK.
Why is the U.S. getting so frantic in its anti-DPRK smear campaign at this moment?
By applying sanctions against the DPRK in a "roundabout way" the Bush administration seeks to put pressure upon it in advance so as to pressurize Pyongyang to accept the former's assertion that the latter should abandon its "nuclear program first" at the six-party talks slated to take place in the future. This compels the DPRK to suspect whether the Bush administration has the willingness to implement the joint statement of the six-party talks or not. The DPRK has already declared that it would regard the U.S. sanctions against it as a declaration of war.
If the U.S. persists in its hostile acts against the DPRK contrary to the spirit of the joint statement of the six-party talks, the DPRK will be left with no option but to take self-defence steps to cope with those acts.
The DPRK does not say empty words.
