We will invariably keep faith in socialism at all times.

Normalization of Japan-DPRK Diplomatic Relations Called for

Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- Isamu Shimizu, chairman of the Nagano, Japan, Prefectural People's Council for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, was interviewed by KCNA on Oct. 11 after participating in celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea. He said he will launch a powerful campaign for the reunification of Korea and the normalization of the Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations. He noted he was deeply moved to see the army and people of the DPRK out for the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, single-mindedly rallied around General Secretary Kim Jong Il, true to the behests of President Kim Il Sung.
2005 is marking the 60th anniversary of the defeat of Japanese imperialism.
The world attention is now focused on the Korean Peninsula.
The denuclearization of the peninsula and the normalization of the DPRK-U.S. and Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations are important matters for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea and for detente and peaceful co-existence in Northeast Asia.
The DPRK is registering many successes in the settlement of these matters.
The issue of Korea's reunification has now become historic inevitability no one can arrest.
The door for normalizing Japan-DPRK diplomatic ties is open thanks to the historic Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration but this issue is undergoing ordeals due to the reactionary forces of Japan.
We will further strengthen the movement for the normalization of Japan-DPRK diplomatic ties as well as the activities for supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.
We will also wage positive struggle to defend the national rights of the Koreans in Japan against the moves to distort history textbooks, bid for permanent membership of the UNSC and official visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.
We will launch a dynamic campaign to make the Japanese government honestly implement the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration, apologize and compensate for the past colonial rule over Korea and withdraw its hostile policy toward the DPRK.

The GNP, a group of pro-U.S. sycophantic treacherous forces, is again talking about a "special inspection of remittance to the north" in a bid to lay obstacles in the way of independence, peace and reunification paved by the Korean nation itself and the security authorities are resorting to a wholesale suppression of people on charges of violation of the "National Security Law", an anti-reunification law, the statement said, and went on: Not content with taking issue with the inter-Korean reunification functions conducive to great national unity, labeling them "pro-north", they are standing in the way of even the cooperation and exchange for the common interests and prosperity of the nation.
The statement urged the GNP and the conservative forces to stop at once the treacherous acts of blocking peace and reunification quite contrary to the wishes of the nation.

Rodong Sinmun on U.S. Senate's Decision to Cut down Cost for Research of Smaller Nukes

Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee decided to deduct a total amount of 4.5 million US dollars, expenses for the research of smaller nukes, from the appropriations for the fiscal year 2006, which has put a brake on the U.S. administration's moves for military expansion to complete the development of nuclear weapons of practical use for smashing anti-U.S. independent countries, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed commentary. The deduction of a total expense for the research of smaller nukes deals a heavy blow to the neo-conservative forces of the U.S. in their attempt to pressurize those countries incurring their displeasure with nuclear weapons, the commentary notes.
Bringing to light the reason why the U.S. Senate had no choice but to make such a decision, the commentary goes on:
The military expenditure of the U.S. dreaming of world domination has snowballed in recent years close to 500 billion US dollars. This is a record high in the U.S. history. It is, therefore, as clear as noonday that the U.S. is not in a position to squander a large amount of money for the research of smaller nukes given that anti-war spirit is mounting within the U.S. day by day and the public is growing suspicious about the U.S. occupation of Iraq. The decision is also related to the big chaos caused by increased damage by hurricane that swept the country in late August.
As a result, the U.S. administration was compelled to stop developing the nukes because it found itself in a deplorable plight due to the tremendous expenses for Iraqi war and damage by hurricane Katrina. The U.S. bellicose forces were hit hard by it and have become limp. The recent U.S. Senate decision shows that the U.S. warlike forces' moves for a nuclear war cannot go ahead as they intend. But the U.S. ambition for nuclear weapons will remain unchanged.
