U.S. Troops Pullback from S. Korea Urged

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization issued a statement on September 14 60 years since the U.S. forces landed in south Korea. Recalling that 60 years have passed since the southern half of the Korean Peninsula was occupied by foreign troops, the statement said that the U.S. forces present in south Korea are the stumbling block lying in the way of the reunification of the peninsula. It expressed support for the Korean people in their cause of reunifying the country and defending peace on the Korean Peninsula and urged the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea.
Abdul Wahab Rashwani, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Syria (Bagdash), said in a statement on September 15 that the U.S. should withdraw its aggression forces from south Korea without delay, stop its shameless interference in Korea's internal affairs and make a switchover in its hostile policy towards the DPRK. It is entirely thanks to the DPRK's strong military strength built pursuant to the Songun politics and its peace-loving policy that peace has been preserved on the Korean Peninsula and in the region around it, the statement said.
The present international situation evidently proves the validity of the anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. strategy advanced by President Kim Il Sung long ago, it said, affirming full support and solidarity with the Korean people's anti-imperialist struggle and cause of national reunification.

GNP Ultra-Right Conservatives' Reckless Remarks under Fire

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The ultra-right conservatives of the Grand National Party of south Korea including its floor leader dared pull up the north over south Korea's progressive forces' call for the removal of the statue of MacArthur in Inchon. As regards the north's claim to the legitimate right to the use of nuclear energy for a peaceful purpose at the six-party talks they even let loose a string of balderdash describing it as a far-fetched assertion. A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland in a statement on Sept. 22 noted that the GNP's outcries pleasing the U.S. and inciting confrontation with the north are intended to egg the pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative forces on to dampen the spirit of alliance with the north and independence rapidly mounting in south Korea, turn the trend of the times favorable for toeing the U.S. line and pursuing confrontation with the north and save its foundation from its collapse. The statement went on:
The GNP is no more than a group of philistines who have already lost the worth of its existence. The ridiculous remarks made by the floor leader of the GNP are no more than rubbish of the guy breathing his last, washed away by a violent trend. The June 15 era of reunification does not allow any political force going against national reconciliation and reunification to stay in this land.
If the south Korean politicians truly want to live as righteous politicians for national independence and reunification, they should throw away the signboard of the GNP, a symbol of shame and disgrace, and resolutely break with pro-U.S., ultra-right forces.

Measure Committee for Retaking Monument to Victory Inaugurated

Pyongyang, September 23 (KCNA) -- The Measure Committee for Retaking the Monument to the Victory in the Battles in the Northern Area of Korea was formed with Kim Sok Hwan, director of the Bureau for Direction of Cultural Preservation, as its chairman. A meeting was held by authorities and public organizations concerned in the DPRK including the Bureau for Direction of Cultural Preservation, the Korean Buddhist Federation, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in Pyongyang on Sept. 21 to recover the monument.
The meeting decided to form the committee to actively push forward the work. The monument has a record of the historical facts that the Korean volunteer army defeated the Japanese intruders into the area of Hamgyong Province of Korea in the period of the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598).
When the Japanese aggression army invaded Korea in 1904 under the pretext of Russo-Japanese war, Ikeda, commanding officer of the army, saw the monument standing in Rimmyongyok (now Kim Chaek City) of North Hamgyong Province in 1905. At that time he grumbled that such monument standing there would touch off strong anti-Japanese sentiment among Koreans and this would not be in favor of Japan's enforcement of the rule of colonial enslavement over Korea. Then it was shipped to Tokyo in secrecy in 1906.
The Japanese aggressors considered the monument too wonderful and excellent in its stone material and sculptural art to destroy it. It has thus been preserved up to this date as "a trophy" from their colony.
What is more serious is that it is now left in a corner of the "Yasukuni Shrine." The monument taken away by the Japanese imperialists from the northern area of Korea at that time is the Korean nation's precious artifact of great historical value.
