Korean People's Struggle Supported

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The world progressive people are greatly inspired by the valiant struggle of the Korean people against the arbitrary and high-handed practices of the United States. The secretary of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party who is chairman of the South African Association for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People said this in a statement issued on August 2 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Korea. President Kim Il Sung liberated Korea, freeing Korea from the yoke of colonial slavery and enabling the Korean people to enjoy an independent and creative life and their country, once eclipsed on the world map, to appear on the international area as a full-fledged independent and sovereign state, he noted, and continued:
The Korean people are now firmly defending the sovereignty of the country and dynamically pushing forward the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation under the outstanding and tested Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
He expressed the conviction that the Korean people would as ever fully demonstrate their might as a pioneer of the era of independence at the head of progressive humankind, meeting all the challenges of the imperialists and glorifying Korean-style socialism.

Friday Meeting for Actions against U.S. and War and for Withdrawal of U.S. Forces Held

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The 83rd Friday meeting against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces was reportedly held in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul on August 5 under the sponsorship of the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration. Speakers said at the meeting that the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula was spawned because the United States introduced nuclear weapons into S. Korea in violation of the Korean Armistice Agreement. In order to settle the nuclear issue the U.S. should drop its hostile policy toward the north and its plan for a preemptive nuclear attack and build confidence for normalizing the relations with the DPRK, they noted.
They urged the U.S. to stop giving lip-service to peace but show its will to work for peace in practice.

DPRK Comes First in Country Standings at East Asian Football Championships

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The DPRK footballers came first in the country standings in the East Asian Football Championships held in south Korea from July 31 to August 7. The winner of the championships was decided by totaling the points gained by men and women's teams of each country in line with the rules instituted by the East Asian Football Federation recently.
The DPRK women's team beat its Chinese and Japanese rivals 1:0 each, finishing the second with 6 points to receive a silver medal while its men's team trounced its Japanese rival 1:0 at its first match, registering 4 points to come third.

Japan Urged to Redeem Its Past Crimes

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The Korean youth will never stop their anti-Japan actions till the Japanese authorities redress all the crimes committed against the Korean people. A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League said this in a statement issued Monday in connection with the lapse of 60 years since the defeat of Japanese imperialism. He noted:
Japan destroyed the beautiful land of Korea, desecrated its time-honored history and brilliant culture, inflicting serious wounds upon tens of millions of Koreans. After its defeat Japan took a direct part in the war of aggression against the DPRK and has systematically obstructed its socialist construction and the reunification of Korea. Japan is kicking off a racket over the "abduction issue" which had been already settled, while shamelessly refusing to admit the crimes committed against the Korean people and honestly repenting of them. Lurking behind this is Japan's foolish and sinister intention to bring a groundless charge against the DPRK and flee from the responsibility to redress its past crimes come what may, reading the face of the U.S., its master.
The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised to bear in mind that they will only meet self-destruction if they persistently run wild in their moves to tamper with history and stage a comeback to Korea, failing to properly understand the tremendous might and will of the Korean youth.

War Provoker's Disgusting Behavior Ridiculed

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The United States can never flee from the responsibility for having provoked the Korean War and committed atrocities against humanity though it plays cheap tricks like a thief crying "stop the thief!" Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed commentary.
At a "ceremony" held to mark the 52nd anniversary of the Armistice Agreement, the U.S. conservatives shifted the blame for the outbreak of the last Korean War onto other, describing the U.S. as "apostle of peace". It is a sinister deception, distortion of history and a mockery of human conscience, the commentary charges, and says:
The ceasefire on the Korean Peninsula was established on assumption that the Korean issue is settled in a peaceful way. However, the issue has not yet been solved for over half a century since the conclusion of the AA. This is entirely attributable to the U.S. unjust hostile policy towards the DPRK.
To change the armistice system into a peace-keeping mechanism is an urgent problem which brooks no further delay to settle on a fair basis the DPRK-U.S. nuclear issue, a matter of deep concern of the world community. If the armistice system is changed into a peace system on the Korean eninsula, the U.S. hostile policy and nuclear threat to the DPRK, which are the root cause of the nuclear issue, will disappear and it will naturally lead to denuclearization.
It is an inevitable process for a solution to the issue of the Korean Peninsula to put an end to the unstable ceasefire and establish a peace system. The uccessful establishment of peace system will be conducive to ensuring peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia and, furthermore, the world.
This establishment of peace system depends on whether the U.S. is ready to drop the anachronistic hostile policy towards the DPRK and ensure peace and security on the Korean Peninsula or not. The U.S. should renounce its Cold War way of thinking and make a resolute decision to take a practical measure for getting rid of the last legacy of the Cold War era on the peninsula.

On the basis of the materials and experience in the publication of the preceding collections of literary works gTonggukmungamh and gTonginjimunh, it contains more verse and prose pieces. Carried in the selection are over 2,000 verse pieces and over 1,600 prose pieces created in the period from the years of the three kingdoms to the middle of the 15th century.
In the first half of the 16th century over 40 years after the publication of the selection, Sin Yong Gae (1463-1519) and others printed gSokdongmunsonh, a sequel to the selection. The sequel, made up of 23 volumes, gives literary works created after the publication of "Tongmunson".

U.S. Dangerous Military Moves Assailed

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The U.S. forces are reportedly contemplating the deployment in the near future of the latest unmanned reconnaissance plane "Hunter" far better than "Shadow-200" now present in south Korea in its observation and reconnaissance capability. Meanwhile, it is putting greater spurs to its moves to jointly establish the missile defense system (MD) with Japan, while announcing that it would provide Japan with "X-band" high performance radar and approve Japan's production of "PAC-3." In this regard Minju Joson Tuesday says in a signed commentary: The escalating military moves of the U.S. on the Korean Peninsula and in its vicinity are a revelation of the unchanged aggressive design of the U.S. warlike forces to deliberately strain the regional situation and thus achieve their sinister aim at any cost.
It is the present aggressive strategy of the U.S. warlike forces to realize their ambition for global domination through preemptive military attacks, the commentary observes, and goes on:
Through the above-mentioned military moves they seek to chill the desire for peace, reunification, reconciliation and cooperation growing stronger on the Korean Peninsula, exacerbate the tension and more tightly shackle south Korea and Japan to the "military alliance" with the U.S. in a bid to carry out their strategy for preemptive attack, come what may.
These military developments are bound to increase the military tension and spark a new arms race in the region.
If the U.S. truly wishes to see detente and peace in and around Korea, it should behave itself to suit the atmosphere of peace running high in this part of the world.
