Inter-Korean Military Working Talks Held

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The third military working talks took place in the portion of the south side in Panmunjom today over the issue of implementing the agreement reached at the north-south general-level military talks. Present at the talks were the military working delegation of the north side led by Senior Colonel of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces Yu Yong Chol and the military working delegation of the south side headed by Colonel of the Ministry of National Defense Mun Song Muk.
At the talks the head of the delegation of the north side said that as both sides agreed to hold the 3rd round of the general-level military talks in Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the Korean nation, it was necessary to thoroughly implement the agreement already reached at the general-level military talks, which also calls for dismantling the propaganda means before the talks, and thus creditably fulfill their responsibility and mission.
Both sides discussed the issue of commencing the 3rd stage-work to remove propaganda means in the areas from the central sector of the front to the eastern sector of the front on July 25 and completing it by Aug. 13, the issue of taking a series of measures to prevent clashes in the West Sea, the issue of holding military working talks to wind up the removal of propaganda means and review it in the portion of the north side in Panmunjom at around mid-August and procedural matters concerning the third round of the general-level military talks, etc. They reached an agreement on the relevant issues.
This has paved the way for completely removing all kinds of propaganda means from the areas along the Military Demarcation Line, which have existed for more than half a century, before the significant 60th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

Mammoth Anti-U.S. Rally and Demonstration Held in Copenhagen

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- An anti-U.S. rally and demonstration took place in Copenhagen for five hours on July 6 with at least 30,000 people attending. A large number of members of organizations under the Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association participated in the demonstration, holding the placards reading "The U.S., quit south Korea", "Support to Korea's reunification" and "Drive the U.S. forces and WMD out of south Korea " as well as flags of the DPRK.
They distributed booklets disclosing the U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK and explaining the situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula among many demonstrators.

Hong Chang Su Wins Pro-boxing Championship

Tokyo, July 18 (KNS-KCNA) -- Hong Chang Su, Korean pro-boxer in Japan, defeated Japanese world champion Katsushige Kawashima by a 3:0 decision for the world super flyweight title of WBC held in Osaka on July 18, winning the world championship again. From the start of the match, Hong peppered his opponent with right straights and left hooks, completely putting him on the defensive with his own initiative.
"I fought to the last to keep my self-respect. Many thanks to all supporters for me," he loudly shouted as he was declared as winner.

Japan's Distortion of History and Its Ambition for Territorial Expansion under Fire

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- More meetings took place in different parts of the DPRK to condemn the Japanese reactionaries' distortion of history and their wild ambition for territorial expansion. Meetings were held by the employees of the Sinuiju Spinning Machine Plant in North Phyongan Province and the Hyesan Paper Mill in Ryanggang Province and by the teaching staff and students of Kim Jong Suk University of Education in Ryanggang Province, Sinuiju University of Light Industry in North Phyongan Province and Kanggye University of Education No. 1 in Jagang Province on July 18 and 19.
The reporters and speakers at the meetings cited specific historical facts to lay bare the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past. After occupying Korea by force of arms, the Japanese imperialists worked hard to stamp out the national character of the Korean people and changed the names of the territory of Korea, its seas and local areas into Japanese as they pleased, even driving iron piles in its famous mountains, they noted.
Accusing the Japanese reactionaries of further speeding up the preparations to go nuclear, become a military giant and launch overseas aggression, far from admitting the thrice-cursed crimes perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists in the past and duly apologizing and compensating for them, they said these reactionaries are getting frantic in their moves to grab Tok Islet, an inalienable part of the territory of Korea, and busy distorting and negating their crime-woven history.
    They went on:
The Japanese reactionaries are paying tribute to the top war criminals, persistently insisting on visits to the "Yasukuni Shrine," the object of the Asian people's curse. Even after the adoption of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration they are escalating the offensive to pressurize the DPRK politically, diplomatically, economically and militarily, pulling up the DPRK over the "nuclear issue" and bringing forward even the "abduction issue" which had already been resolved.
With no desperate efforts can the Japanese militarist forces cover up their crime-woven past. The Korean people will take a thousand-fold revenge upon the Japanese reactionaries, their sworn enemy keen to repeat their crime-woven history, and give vent to their pent-up resentment against them.

KCNA Flails Japan's Attitude toward Six-Party Talks

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The international community is becoming increasingly concerned about the role of a filibuster to be played by Japan at the forthcoming six-party talks. Hosoda, chief cabinet secretary, and Machimura, foreign minister, expressed their intentions on July 14 and 15 to raise the "abduction issue" at the six-party talks, uttering that Japan remains unchanged in its basic policy to take every opportunity to strongly assert the settlement of the "issue."
Given the remarks made by the Japanese chief executive at the G-8 summit that Japan would not establish diplomatic relations with the DPRK unless the "abduction issue" is settled, it is clear to everyone that the extremely egoistic and double-dealing political and diplomatic stand of Japan on the international arena will conflict with the generally accepted interests of the international community.
The six-party talks remain unchanged in their basic orientation and nature that the talks should substantially contribute to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. It is in this context that the parties concerned except Japan have made every possible effort in various aspects to create an atmosphere for the resumption of the talks.
Japan has busied itself to divert the orientation and atmosphere for the six-party talks into those serving its mean interests.
The real purpose sought by Japan through the six-party talks is to bring up the already settled "abduction issue" for discussion at the talks, the matter not relevant to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, in a bid to create an atmosphere unfavorable for the DPRK and fish in troubled waters.
The behaviors of senior most officials of Japan go to clearly prove that they do not want the resumption of the six-party talks, the settlement of the nuclear issue and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Japan has so far stood in the way of six-party talks.
At the previous rounds of the talks Japan impertinently raised the "abduction issue," asserting that the talks should not take up the nuclear issue only. This chilled the atmosphere of the talks and deliberately threw hurdles in the way of discussing their agenda items.
Japan will find nothing to do at the future six-party talks even if it attends them unless it drops its crooked viewpoint and way of thinking. Its participation would only create more complexities to the talks.
The negative role played by Japan at the previous rounds of the talks compels the DPRK not to deal with Japan even if the talks are resumed.
The invariable attitude of Japan towards the multi-party talks only increases disillusionment with it.

KCNA Flays U.S. Anti-DPRK Racket

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The "Freedom House", a reactionary organization in the United States, reportedly called a "meeting on north Korean human rights" on July 19. Attending it were former officials of the U.S. administration, members of both houses of the U.S. Congress, politicians of south Korea and dozens of reactionary non-governmental organizations in the U.S. and south Korea. A seminar, exhibition, film show, etc. are also reportedly planned by it. To this end, the U.S. administration authorized the above-said organization to convene some meetings, pursuant to the "North Korean Human Rights Act" and allotted two million U.S. dollars to finance them.
It is nothing new that the "Freedom House" again called the "human rights meeting" as it has been hell-bent on smear campaigns and wrongs against the DPRK as a waiting maid serving the U.S. in its execution of the "human rights policy".
But what should not be overlooked is that such kind of meeting gained in its scope and attendance and it was held in the run-up to the resumption of the six-party talks under the zealous patronage and support of the authorities unlike the preceding meeting when riffraff gathered to kick up an anti-DPRK row.
The international community pays attention to the six-party talks to be held in next week and wishes to see them to make positive progress through sincere and honest dialogue.
However, the U.S. is getting more frantic in its anti-DPRK racket over the human rights issue, getting on the nerves of the dialogue partner as evidenced by the adoption of the "resolution on abduction" and the "meeting on the north Korean human rights." This is a disturbing behavior incompatible with dialogue.
The U.S. has neither justification nor face to tell the DPRK this or that over the human rights issue.
It is nonsensical for the U.S. to talk about the human rights of someone as it does not hesitate to abduct the head of a sovereign state and overthrow the legitimate government of other country for the mere reason that it falls out of Washington's favor and stands in the way of meeting its interests.
The U.S. talk about "improved human rights" and "freedom" of the DPRK is aimed to use the human rights issue as well as the nuclear issue as the two pillars of its policy to isolate and stifle the latter and realize its attempt to "bring down the system" of the latter under that pretext.
The U.S. recourse to political provocations over the non-existent "human rights issue" out of its deep-rooted hostility and antagonism against the DPRK deprives it and the countries concerned of any optimism about substantial progress in the six-party talks. Such provocative acts as slandering and vilifying the dialogue partner make it impossible to orient the talks to a positive track and will drive them to conflict and rupture in the long run.

Greetings to Colombian President

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Wednesday sent a message of greetings to Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez on the occasion of its national day. In the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms, the message wished the president greater success in his work for the stability and development of the country.

Stonework Developed in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- Various kinds of stonework products have been made in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Among them are stones bearing slogans and photos, articles of luxury, craftworks, pots for medicine preparation, kitchen sinks and candelabra.
Photo-inscribed stones are popular for their high level of representation and processing technique.
Stone carvings of figures, animals and other things are made for decorations of buildings, offices and rooms.
The products, made with natural stone, enjoy popularity in China, Cambodia, Nepal and other countries.

Pukchong County, Home of Pomiculture

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- Pukchong County, South Hamgyong Province, is called the home of pomiculture in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The county, with mountains covering 65 percent of its area, had been unsuitable for people to live in.
In March Juche 46 (1957) President Kim Il Sung climbed a mountain in the county and indicated a way of building orchards in tiers. Afterwards, he gave on-the-spot guidance to the county several times with a plan to supply people with fruits in all seasons.
In those days he gave detailed instructions ranging from issues of mechanizing fruit-culture and introducing chemicals into it to those of manuring and cultivating fruit trees, and took steps to convert the county into a model in building orchards throughout the country.
Inspired by his guidance, people of the county reclaimed mountains to plant fruit trees in a thousand hectares within a few years.
Basing himself on the success and experience, the President convened an enlarged meeting of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea in Ryongjon-ri, Pukchong County, in April 1961. At the meeting he made a concluding speech calling for launching an all-people campaign to build orchards throughout the country.
In hearty response to his call, nature-harnessing projects were started in all parts of the country.
As of 2002 the acreage of orchard in Ryongjon-ri increased to 147 hectares from 80 hectares in 1961.
Pukchong County is now taking the lead in industrializing and modernizing the fruit production in the country.
Leader Kim Jong Il, who visited the Munhwa Co-op Farm of Ryongjon-ri in June 2002, was very satisfied to see cozy dwelling houses at the foot of a mountain covered by various kinds of fruit trees.

Meeting of Korean Writers Held

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- A meeting of Korean writers was held here Wednesday to implement the June 15 joint declaration. The meeting that brought together writers in the north and from the south and overseas was the first of its kind in the history of national division. It discussed the duty and role of writers of national literature in achieving national reunification under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration, the issues of forming the "June 15 association of writers of national literature" as a common organization of writers in the north and the south and overseas and instituting "June 15 Prize for Reunification Literature."
The meeting underlined the significance of creating the association and instituting the prize and necessity to do so and pointed to the ways to realize them.
A declaration of the meeting of Korean writers was adopted at the meeting.

Delegations of Korean Writers from S. Korea and Overseas Arrive

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the south side led by Ko Un, chairman for reunification of the Association of Men of National Literature, arrived here today to attend the meeting of Korean writers for implementing the June 15 joint declaration. The delegation was greeted at the airport by Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Writers Union, and officials concerned with compatriotic feelings.
The delegation in an arrival statement said that it would take the meeting of Korean writers as an opportunity to start writing literary works opposing the division of the nation and war and contributing to the peaceful reunification of the country in the spirit of national independence, peace against war and great national unity.
Arriving here earlier were such delegations from the overseas side to the meeting as the delegation of writers of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan headed by Kim Jong Su, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Writers and Artistes in Japan, and the delegation of Korean writers in China led by Han Kil Su, department director of the General Association of Koreans in China.

Kim Jong Il Inspects Command of Its Unit

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected the command of KPA Unit 118. The Unit is known to have registered signal results in various battles during the last Fatherland Liberation War and produced in this course 23 heroes of the Republic and many other recipients of state orders.
Guided by the commander of the unit, he looked round the room devoted to its history. Noting that the unit has performed great exploits not only during the war but in the period of socialist construction by fully displaying the heroic spirit of the Korean People's Army, he called on the servicepersons of the unit to demonstrate the mettle to win one victory after another in the future, too by preserving the glorious tradition of struggle.
Seeing materials on those soldiers of distinguished service who have devoted themselves to increasing the combat capability of the unit, serving in it for years, he praised them as unforgettable comrades intensely loyal to the Party and the revolution and took a measure to glorify their feats.
The hearts of the servicepersons of the KPA are now beating high with the revolutionary soldier spirit the core of which is the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of devotedly implementing his instructions and the heroic self-sacrificing spirit, he noted, adding that no force on earth can match the KPA which considers this great revolutionary spirit symbolizing and representing the era of Songun as its blood and soul.
He dropped in at the operation command room to learn about the unit's performance of duty. He was satisfied to learn that the servicepersons of the unit are reliably standing guard over the defence line of the country, firmly equipped with the Juche-oriented war methods of the WPK.
After acquainting himself with the training at the military lecture room, he praised the unit for having successfully built the room and put the training on a regular basis so that all commanding officers might acquire versatile military knowledge.
He underscored the need to focus efforts on the work to thoroughly implement the WPK's policy of training.
Commanding a bird's-eye-view of the greenery and thick woodland where the command is situated, he highly appreciated the commanding officers and men of the unit for having spruced up the compound of the barracks and its surroundings and assiduously managed the unit and its economic life, following the lifestyle of the anti-Japanese guerilla army.
He paid deep attention to the service and living of the servicepersons, going round entertainment and logistic facilities.
He appreciated the efforts made by the unit, saying it is very gratifying to note that the unit has built modern entertainment and logistic facilities by fully applying the way the anti-Japanese guerilla army managed the unit and its commanding officers and their families, in particular, have looked after the servicepersons' living as their parents would do.
He had a photo session with the servicepersons of the unit.
He was accompanied by Ri Yong Chol, member of the Central Military Commission of the WPK and first vice department director of its Central Committee, and Hwang Pyong So, vice department director of its Central Committee.

World Community Called Upon to Check Japan's Bid for Permanent Membership of UNSC

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- Japan has not yet won confidence of the international community for it has threatened global peace and security. Its bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council is aimed to become a political power and use it for holding hegemony in Asia and other parts of the world. Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says this in a signed article. Japan set it as an ultimate goal of its diplomacy to sit on the U.N. Security Council this year which will mark the 60th anniversary of the world body and to this end, it has busied itself soliciting support from big countries and showing off its moneybags before developing countries to lure and bribe them, the article says, and goes on:
Japan's pitch for a permanent seat on the UNSC would prevent the world body from properly fulfilling its mission and achieving the purpose of its reform.
Japan is still recorded as an "enemy state" in the UN Charter. Its bid for the seat is, therefore, prompted by its ambition to reinvade Asia and conquer the world. The world has already branded Japan as one of the most dangerous aggressor forces disturbing the present international peace order. The country is not entitled to talk about global peace. Japan should not be allowed to sit on the SC in order to ensure the efficiency of the world body, too.
Japan's diplomacy is characterized by its blind submission and servitude towards the U.S. The country bereft of independence is accustomed to reading the U.S. face before clarifying its stand on any international issue. In case Japan, which acts at the beck and call of its American master without its own principle, is allowed to sit on the SC, that will only mean one more vote for the U.S.
That may also entail such adverse consequences as impairing the authority of the U.N. Its prestige is bound to be damaged if permanent membership of the SC goes to Japan because Tokyo has failed to win confidence from its neighboring countries, to say nothing of the international community. Japan's wrong attitude and stand toward its past history of aggression have greatly enraged the Asian people. The ultra-right forces in Japan are desperately negating and justifying the aggression committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past. Japan is the only war criminal state and a defeated nation that has not yet admitted its past crimes nor made any apology and compensation for them.
It is prompted by the childish way of thinking peculiar to Japan that money is everything no matter how severe contempt it may suffer from the international community. The pitch for a permanent seat on the SC on account of its contribution to the UN can not be construed otherwise than a deliberate act to damage the confidence of the international community in the U.N. Japan would be well advised to honestly admit the crimes committed by it in the past, fully compensate for them and turn over a new leaf before impertinently eying a responsible post at the UN. This is an urgent task before Japan and the demand of the world. The world community should never allow Japan to take a seat on the UNSC unless it fulfills the above task.
