S. Korean Organizations Demand Better Labor Policy

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The Federation of south Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) held a rally with an attendance of at least 3,000 members of civic and public organizations in Seoul demanding the government improve the labor policy, according to the south Korean KBS. It was held to honor the memory of Kim Thae Hwan, chief of the Chungju regional branch, who was run over to death by a truck on June 14 while struggling to have the rights of the part-time workers guaranteed.
The chairman of the FKTU charged at the rally that the framework of the labor-management-government dialogue is being destroyed in the course of the National Assembly's discussion on the issue of passing the bill on part-time jobs through it and the fixing of the minimum wage. He demanded the resignation of the minister of Labor and so on.
Meetings were held one after another in different parts of Seoul on July 3 in demand of the guarantee of the right to labor.
More than 350 workers under the Freight Solidarity and other unions of specially hired workers and at least 100 members of civic organizations including the Women's Solidarity against "Globalization" and the Democratic Solidarity for Social Progress held a rally demanding the guarantee of three rights to labor to the specially hired workers, women's rights and women's rights to labor.

Functions Held to Commemorate Anniversary of Demise of Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- A remembrance meeting of workers and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK) and an oath-taking meeting of agricultural workers were held Wednesday on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung. Speakers at the remembrance meeting held at the Central Workers' Hall in Pyongyang said that ordinary workers could emerge heroes, innovators and full-fledged masters of the country under the paternal loving care of President Kim Il Sung who had unbreakable ties with the working class and led them with warm fatherly affection.
They stressed the need for the workers and other GFTUK members to greet the grand October festival with signal successes by creditably fulfilling their duties in the "100-day campaign" in hearty response to the joint slogans of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) just as their forerunners had always remained faithful to the Party in every shining annal of the Korean revolution.
The reporter and speakers at an oath-taking meeting of agricultural workers held on the Wonhwa Cooperative Farm in Phyongwon County, South Phyongan Province, said that they always remember the undying revolutionary exploits of the President who put forward the farmers as masters of the land, the revolution and the country and devoted his all to the work to bring about epoch-making changes in the countryside.
They underlined the need for all the agricultural workers to thoroughly carry out the last instructions of the President and fully prepare themselves as the fighters of the Songun revolution who defend leader Kim Jong Il politically and ideologically and at the cost of their lives. A letter of pledge to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
Present at the meetings were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, officials concerned, workers and members of the GFTUK, officials of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea and agricultural workers in Pyongyang.

More Rallies Held to Vow to Carry Out Joint Slogans

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Mass rallies took place in Jagang and North Hamgyong Provinces and at the Ministry of Railways and a rally was held by servicepersons of the Ministry of People's Security on July 5 and 6 to vow to implement to the letter the joint slogans published by the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the WPK. The reporters and speakers at the rallies said that the joint slogans serve as a militant banner for bringing about a great innovation and brilliant victory in accomplishing the cause of socialism true to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, holding fast to the revolutionary idea and immortal revolutionary feats of President Kim Il Sung as eternal treasures of the Korean revolution.
Noting that the WPK earnestly calls upon all the people to turn out in the worthwhile "100-day campaign," they urged all the people to wage a more dynamic drive for effecting a great surge in the Songun revolution, firmly determined to emerge victors in this general march.
They underlined the need to bring about fresh innovations in agriculture, the main front in the socialist economic construction, and such important fields of the national economy as power, coal and metal industries.
They called upon the officials to become men of action who wholeheartedly accept the Party policies and carry them through like the commanding officers of the revolutionary army in this general advance and upon the young people to fully display their honor of being the young vanguard of Songun in every worthwhile socialist construction site as befitting the vanguard and shock force.
They appealed to all the people to achieve great successes as a present to the mother Party with intense loyalty to the Party and the leader and patriotic enthusiasm so as to greet the 60th founding anniversary of the WPK most grandly and significantly.

Money Diplomacy of Japan Assailed

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- No one should have an illusion about Japan which is playing the hypocrite and the coquette, brandishing the moneybag, as if it would do "something nice", but sharpen vigilance against its bid to buy a responsible position of the United Nations with money. Rodong Sinmun in an article Thursday strips bare the hypocritical money diplomacy in which Japan is these days showing extra zeal to create a climate favorable for obtaining permanent membership of the UN Security Council at any cost by improving its image on the international scene, waxing quite eloquent about its "contribution" to the budget of the United Nations and "cooperation" with the developing countries.
The author of the article goes on:
It is the mode of thinking of Japan that "money is almighty." It is running about with the offer that it would increase its share of the UN expenses and provide "cooperation" under the cloak of "international contribution." Its real intention, however, is to soothe over the collision with the countries standing in the way of its overseas expansion and lull their anti-Japanese feelings, thus strengthening its position and influence in the world political arena in a bid to solve international problems in its favor and widen the road of its overseas aggression.
Herein lies the danger of Japan's ambitious scheme to be a permanent member of the UNSC with the exhibition of the moneybag.
If the United Nations admits the country hastening preparations to repeat its past war crimes as a permanent member of the Security Council for the mere reason that it contributes more money than other countries, it will be unable to talk about justice, international peace and security and its reliability.
Japan should sincerely reflect on the monstrous crimes it committed against the Asian peoples including the Korean people and fully settle them before stealing a look at permanent membership of the UNSC.
Japan should clearly know that it can never be a permanent member of the UNSC without settling its past.

U.S. Reckless War Moves Denounced

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is describing the deployment of F-117 Stealth fighter bombers as a "regular rotational deployment" after replacing the "OPLAN 5029", a war scenario against the DPRK, by what it called "CONPLAN 5029." In this regard Rodong Sinmun Thursday observes in a signed article: With no artifice can the U.S. ever cover up its true colors as the arch criminal escalating the military tension on the Korean Peninsula. It continues:
The U.S. worked out a series of war scenarios against the DPRK and has since sped up its preparations to put them into practice any time. This clearly indicates that the U.S. imperialists' moves for a war of aggression against the DPRK and its preemptive nuclear attack upon it have been actively pushed forward at a final phase.
U.S. war scenarios against the DPRK have been put into more specific and concrete shape. The U.S. has staged more than 100 provocative war drills together with south Korea and Japan every year. An exercise is now under way to evacuate families of the U.S. troops and other Americans from south Korea in case of emergency on the Korean Peninsula.
It is obvious to everyone that such war drills are something that can be seen only on the eve of war.
What should not be overlooked is the fact that the U.S. has massively transferred and deployed ultra-modern war equipment in and around south Korea under the signboard of filling up "the vacuum of forces" and "security vacuum" according to its plan for the redeployment of its forces.
The U.S. forward-deployment of 15 F-117s in south Korea suggests that the U.S. may mount any time a preemptive nuclear attack upon the DPRK as part of a new war against it.
The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the extremely tense situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. loudmouthed "CONPLAN" and "regular rotational deployment of the fighter bombers" only remind one of an ostrich policy as they are aimed at covering up its attempt to ignite a war against the DPRK.
The U.S. would be well advised to give up its policy of aggression against the DPRK, clearly mindful that Washington's wild ambition to stifle the DPRK by force can never come true.

KCNA Presses for Japan's Sincere Apology and Compensation

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries have become persistent in their attempts to internationalize the "abduction issue." Suffice it to recall what Japanese Foreign Minister Machimura said at the recent meeting of foreign ministers of G-8 nations.
Bringing forward the "abduction issue" again there, he urged the international community to "jointly handle the issue of north Korea's human rights abuse."
This is part of the anti-DPRK ruckus kicked up by the Japanese reactionaries in their bid to internationalize the "abduction issue" and create an atmosphere of pressure upon the DPRK and a foolish attempt to cover up their past crimes.
The "abduction issue" much touted by Japan has already been settled with the publication of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and through two visits to Pyongyang by the Japanese prime minister and the DPRK has done what it should do in this regard.
This is a hard fact but Japan is crying over the "abduction issue" even in the international arena outside Japan. This clearly shows how far their impudence and moral vulgarity have reached.
Japan has already been recorded as the world's biggest war criminal state with the worst record of abduction cases for the hideous anti-human crimes it had committed against Koreans and other Asian people in the past century.
Yet, it does not bother to kidnap and abduct people of other countries, staging one "abduction" drama after another stunning the world people. The Japanese reactionaries' abduction of DPRK citizens, in particular, is well organized and premeditated in its scale and nature and most dastardly and malicious in its means and methods.
Japanese woman residing in the DPRK An Phil Hwa revealed detailed facts in this regard before domestic and foreign reporters after her return to the DPRK in April.
It is the height of sarcasm for Japan to talk about the DPRK's "abduction issue," as it is a master hand in abduction with a century-long criminal record.
Japan was and is the assailant and the DPRK the victim as regards the "abduction issue."
Japan has played wicked games to politicize and internationalize the "abduction issue", raising a terrific outcry over it whenever an opportunity presented itself. But this is nothing but a clumsy trick of a brutal assailant to paint himself as an innocent "victim" and thus cover up his crimes and evade the settlement of the past.
What is left to be done by the Japanese politicians is to make a sincere apology and compensation for the hideous human rights abuses committed by Japan against the Koreans in the past, in conformity with the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.

Eternal Leader of People

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Eleven years have passed since President Kim Il Sung demised in July. As the years go by, the Korean people have sorely missed the President, who dedicated his all to the sacred cause for the people to the last moments of his life since he started his revolutionary activities in his teens.
He, as usual, was engrossed in work from the dawn of July 7, Juche 83 (1994), a day before his demise.
That day, his aides recommended him even a few minutes of walking, but he examined a document concerning the country's reunification till late at night.
After finishing the document, he put his autograph "Kim Il Sung. July 7, 1994" on it. And he said with satisfaction that the reunification of the country would be the greatest gift he could give to the people and that a full preparation should be made to greet the great event of national reunification.
On July 6 he convened a consultative meeting of senior officials in the economic sector and made an important speech on the economic construction of the country.
In the last days of his life, the President gave field guidance to a co-op farm in Onchon County, saying that it was a good rest for him to look round a factory or farm.
The President had found himself among the people throughout his life. Though he attained an advanced age, above 80, he continued his field guidance with a stick. When he met people, however, he had his stick left in the car, saying that they would feel sorry to see him using a stick.
The Korean people will always keep President Kim Il Sung in their minds as their eternal leader.

Korea Has Longest History of University

Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Korea is one of the countries with the longest history of university in the world. Historical documents say that Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668), an old kingdom in Korea, established "Thaehak" (university) for the purpose of strengthening the feudal rule.
At that time, Koguryo had a well-regulated nationwide education system with schools in local areas and "Thaehak" in the capital.
According to Prof. and Dr. Pak Yong Hae who is a candidate academician, "Thaehak" gave students literary and military education.
It greatly contributed to the prosperity of Koguryo, which existed for a millennium as a strong nation.
"Thaehak" furnished itself with the features befitting a higher educational institution in 372.
The kingdom of Koryo (918-1392) carried forward the educational tradition of Koguryo to found "Songgyungwan", the highest seat of education in the country, in 992.
Koryo Songgyungwan, a university of light industry, in Kaesong City, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the heir to "Songgyungwan".
