National Day of Philippines Marked

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held in Pyongyang on June 12 to mark the 107th national day of the Republic of Philippines. Present at the meeting were Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is chairman of the DPRK-Philippines Friendship Association, members of the association and working people in the city.
At the meeting Jon made a congratulatory speech and a congratulatory message from the DPRK-Philippines Friendship Association to the Philippines-DPRK Friendship Society was adopted there.
At the end of the meeting, the participants looked round the photos and books introducing the politics, economy and culture of Philippines.

Unequal Agreement Signed by S. Korea with U.S. under Fire

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The United States and the south Korean authorities formally signed the 6th "special agreement on the share of defense spending" on June 9, according to the south Korean KBS. The special agreement inked by the charge d'affaires ai of the U.S. embassy in Seoul and the minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of south Korea commits the south Korean authorities to the annual payment of 680.4 billion won for 2 years.
The course of several rounds of negotiations on "the share of defense spending" held between the U.S. and the south Korean authorities that had been under way since early November last year brought to light the arrogant, shameless and brigandish nature of the U.S. and the humiliating nature of the south Korean government.
The recently signed agreement obliges the south Korean government to pay even the expenses for the south Korean employees hired at units of the U.S. troops although the previous agreement committed the U.S. to covering them.
The special agreement, a product of the submission to the U.S. and collusion for aggression, clearly proves that the U.S.-south Korean alliance is nothing but a noose of subjugation and humiliation and leverage for perpetuating the U.S. military presence and colonial rule over south Korea.

Rice-transplanting Finished in Main Paddy Areas

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Rice-transplanting has been finished in the main paddy areas of the DPRK. It has been wound up in the paddy fields except the first-crop fields and some highland areas of Jagang, Ryanggang and North Hamgyong provinces thanks to the patriotic and devoted work of the agricultural workers, KPA soldiers, government employees, working people and youth and students who turned out in response to the militant appeal of the Workers' Party of Korea to concentrate and enlist all efforts in agricultural production.
The farms all over the country had hurled themselves into rice-transplanting in right time after making full preparations for spring farming such as repair and readjustment of tractors, rice-transplanting machines, etc.
Rice-transplanting surged into a high tide with the powerful support of the whole party, army and people. When it entered a full-fledged stage, millions of supporters rushed to the cooperative fields every day and gave sincere help in farming.
Transplanting was finished successfully in time in the west coast granaries such as Yonbaek, Jaeryong, Yoldusamcholli and Onchon plains in South Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces.
Officials made it possible to wind up rice-transplanting in time by giving intensified technical guidance coupled with mobile organization of work and frontline-style economic agitation on the cooperative fields astir with transplanting.
Now the cooperative fields are animated with unabated strivings of agricultural workers and assistants tending transplanted rice seedlings with all care.

Women's Union Denounces U.S. Imperialists

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- A spokeswoman of the Central Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union issued a statement on June 12 upon the lapse of three years after the murder of two middle school girls by U.S. soldiers in south Korea. The statement, in the name of all the Korean women, sharply denounced the U.S. imperialist aggressors who have killed defenseless people including women by most chocking brutal methods and imposed immeasurable misfortunes and sufferings upon the whole nation while illegally occupying south Korea for 60 years.
The killing of the schoolgirls vividly revealed the miserable lot of all the south Korean fellow countrymen including women who have no one to appeal to when they are ruthlessly downtrodden and forced to grievous death by the U.S. imperialist aggressors, the statement noted, and said:
All the women in the north express the hope and belief that the south Korean fellow countrymen including women will vigorously turn out in the sacred fight of justice against the U.S. to put an end to its military occupation and colonial domination and build a new land of independence.

U.S. Obstructions to Implementation of Joint Declaration Assailed

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a detailed report on June 12 on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, which denounced the U.S. for having viciously hindered the implementation of the joint declaration, displeased with it. Recalling that no sooner had the inter-Korean joint declaration been published than the U.S. blamed the south Korean authorities for not getting its "prior consent" as regards its adoption as if something serious had happened, the report said, and continued:
The inter-Korean ties had developed on good terms for sometime since the publication of the joint declaration but were soon put at a standstill due to the U.S. pressure and interference.
In May 2003 the U.S. pressurized the newly emerged south Korean authorities to sign a U.S.-south Korea "joint statement" containing extremely provocative clauses dealing with "additional measures" for an economic blockade and military attack on the DPRK, again throwing the inter-Korean relations into a phase of deterioration.
The number of the exercises for a war of aggression against the DPRK has been systematically and rapidly increased every year since the publication of the joint declaration.
In 2001 alone the number of war drills staged by the U.S. with south Korea doubled over that in the previous year, counting only those drills officially made public.
Since the publication of the joint declaration more hardware for a nuclear war such as the U.S. nuclear-powered carrier and subs have been brought to south Korea than before under the signboards of "military exercise" and "portcall," etc. The strategic redeployment of U.S. forces for a war of aggression against the north has been carried out and the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces in south Korea have been bolstered up significantly under the pretext of the "reorganization" and "relocation" of the U.S. forces.
The "rotation deployment" of the ill-famed F-117 Stealth fighter bombers has started in south Korea since the publication of the joint declaration.
The U.S. has instigated the pro-U.S. conservatives in south Korea including the Grand National Party to fan up the inter-Korean confrontation, negating the joint declaration. It has made every possible effort to frustrate the dialogues and contacts between the authorities and non-governmental organizations of the north and the south to implement the June 15 joint declaration as soon as they began after the historic Pyongyang meeting and the publication of the joint declaration.
Such U.S. pressure threw hurdles in the way of a series of inter-Korean dialogues and contacts. For instance, the fifth inter-Korean ministerial talks slated to take place in March 2001 could not open as scheduled.
As there was a sign of a thaw in the temporarily frozen inter-Korean relations with the visit of a special envoy of the south to Pyongyang in April 2002 as a momentum, the U.S. peddled "satellite photographs" to spread the rumor about "the danger of the possible collapse of the dam of Mt. Kumgang" in order to frustrate the inter-Korean dialogues. In June of the same year the U.S. egged the south Korean bellicose forces on to spark off an armed clash in the West Sea, pushing the north-south dialogue to a crisis.
The U.S. administration has instigated and pressurized the south Korean authorities to raise the nuclear issue of the north at all inter-Korean dialogues and contacts, laying a stumbling block in the way of the dialogues.
The U.S. kicked up a noisy racket against the DPRK over its human rights issue plus the nuclear issue in a bid to create hurdles in the way of the inter-Korean dialogues and spark international disputes. It thus egged south Korea on to declare a state of emergency, pursuant to this campaign, obstructing the inter-Korean dialogues.
When the cooperation between the north and the south was brisk to implement the June 15 joint declaration, the U.S. invented all sorts of pretexts for holding it in check such as "drain on resources," "outflow of strategic materials" and "use for a military purpose."
A typical example of this was the fact that the U.S. obstructed the tour of Mt. Kumgang, a symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation, asserting that "funds paid for tourism might be used for a military purpose."
It has openly interfered in and hampered like a gendarme the work of reconnecting the rail and road links between the north and the south and the construction of the Kaesong industrial zone under the pretexts of "approval" or "permission".
It has also demanded the south Korean enterprises get approval on a-case-by-case basis before their entry into the zone under the pretext of "blocking the introduction of strategic materials".
It has stood in the way of the inter-Korean cooperation in the field of electricity supply. The first meeting of the panel for inter-Korean cooperation in power supply was opened in Pyongyang in Feb. 2001. But the U.S. pressurized the south Korean authorities not to discuss the issue, asserting that it could not allow the discussion on the issue because south Korea's supply of electricity to the north might deprive it of the nuclear card. In consequence, the discussion of the matter proved unsuccessful at the meeting and the cooperation in this field has failed to make any progress.
The U.S. has tried hardest to deter south Korea from supplying fertilizers to the north under the pretext of the nuclear issue.
According to what has been disclosed, 90 percent of the CIA agents active in south Korea are specializing in the issues related to the inter-Korean relations and watching and controlling all the south Koreans who have visited the north by directly grasping their tendencies.
The real aim sought by the U.S. in meddling in and obstructing the undertakings done by Koreans and hamstringing the efforts to implement the joint declaration is to perpetuate its military presence in south Korea and colonial rule over it and escalate the moves for a war of aggression on the Korean Peninsula.

Concealed Fact about Killing of Two Schoolgirls Disclosed

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Preparatory Committee for Commemorating the Anniversary of the June 13 Candlelight Demonstration for Independence and Peace to Honor Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son reportedly issued a statement on June 10, disclosing the results of the probe into the minutes of investigation conducted by the Uijongbu District Prosecutor's Office into the killing of the two schoolgirls. The statement noted that the results of the probe into the minutes of the investigation, which comprise testimonies made by the suspects of the U.S. forces and information about the investigation conducted by the investigation team, etc. disclosed the fact that the U.S. forces in south Korea and the south Korean prosecution concealed the killing of the two schoolgirls in an organized manner.
The U.S. troops and the prosecution side were busy covering up the truth of the conspiracy between them and calming down the just demand of the people under the pretext of the "south Korea-U.S. alliance" and "moves of the anti-U.S. forces" at a time when millions of people demanded the probe into the truth and the punishment of the criminals, deeply grieving the tragic deaths of the schoolgirls, the statement recalled, stressing now people know well why the two sides were so nervous.
    The statement continued:
The U.S. soldiers' deliberate crime and the organized concealment of the murder by the U.S. forces and the prosecution glaringly reveal the American view on the south Koreans.
The U.S. administration should apologize to our people for the crime.
The present "government" should immediately opt for totally revising the unequal "SOFA," the root cause of the above-said problem, apologize to the people for the outrage perpetrated by the prosecution and bring those involved in the crime to justice.

Immediate Pullout of Weapons for Preemptive Attack on North Urged

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek of south Korea reportedly called a press conference on June 9 and demanded the U.S. immediately withdraw all its weapons for preemptive attack on the north including F-117 Stealth fighter bombers deployed in the U.S. airforce base in Kunsan. Speakers at the press conference noted that the "OPLAN 5029-05", the early reorganization of the U.S. Second Division into a future-oriented division, the deployment of B-2 and B-52 bombers in the surroundings of the Korean Peninsula and other military steps were clear indication that the U.S. plan for a preemptive strike at the north was entering into a practical phase.
It is not a commonplace event that the deployment of Stealth planes in south Korea was not only massive in scale but also came in the wake of the announcement of the "CONPLAN 8022-02", they said.
Stating that such acts taken on the threshold of the June 15 grand festival for national reunification reveal the U.S. intention to bring the tension between the south and the north to a higher pitch and obstruct Korea's reunification at any cost, regardless of the will of the Korean nation, they strongly demanded an immediate pullout of all the weapons for aggression.

Prompt Removal of Murderer's Statue Demanded

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The Headquarters of the People's Movement for the Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from south Korea reportedly released a commentary on June 7 demanding the immediate removal of the statue of MacArthur, the chieftain of aggression. The commentary lamented that the statue of the rare murderer is standing in the center of Inchon and even "visits" are paid to it.
Erecting the statue of the cutthroat war criminal, one of those responsible for the division of the Korean nation, and visiting it is like Japan's distortion of the history textbook and visit to "Yasukuni Shrine", it said, and added:
We should feel national disgrace over this and pull down the statue at once.

U.S. Sophism to Justify Preemptive Nuclear Attack under Fire

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Recently the U.S. State Department released "a report on achievements" made in multinational "non-proliferation" efforts over the last nine months. Rodong Sinmun today in a by-lined commentary says in this regard:
The U.S. release of a "report on the achievements" made by the "PSI" is a dangerous attempt to tighten the sanctions and blockade against the DPRK and mount a preemptive nuclear attack on it under the pretext of "non-proliferation."
The U.S. loudmouthed "introduction of chemical substance and nuclear-related materials" by the DPRK is a fiction deliberately concocted by it or misinformation which is based on abstract assumption and lacks scientific accuracy.
The DPRK has never purchased any "chemical substance and nuclear-related materials" illegally. Once the U.S. and Japanese reactionaries conducted false propaganda that the DPRK disassembled the electronic parts and bearings of the imported goods such as toys to produce missiles and tanks.
The U.S. is a possessor and spreader of the most dangerous weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the world.
It cites every conceivable thing to brand the DPRK as a "proliferator of WMD" but it can never conceal its black-hearted intention lurking behind them.
The U.S. seeks to justify the modernization of their nukes and mount a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK under the pretext of "non-proliferation."
The U.S. touted "non-proliferation" is not aimed at ensuring peace but building up public opinion to justify its moves to invade the DPRK.
The reality compels the DPRK to increase its capability for self-defence in everyway.

Fuller Play to Collectivism Called for

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- All the servicepersons and people should regard collectivism as their view on life and fully display it. Herein lie the undisputed advantages and tremendous vitality of Korean-style socialism. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a by-lined article. It goes on:
A socialist society is based on collectivism. The lesson taught by history tells that socialism not depending on the revolutionary people armed with collectivism is bound to collapse in face of the anti-socialist offensive of the imperialists and reactionaries.
The servicepersons and people's noble view of life based on collectivism finds a vivid manifestation in defending leader Kim Jong Il at the risk of their lives.
Underlying the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and carrying out the tasks set forth by him in a do-or-die spirit fully displayed by the servicepersons and people is the noble view on life based on collectivism.
The U.S. imperialists are employing all sorts of despicable methods to undermine the single-minded unity of our servicepersons and people around the headquarters of the revolution but this is a wild dream. This unbreakable unity will always demonstrate its tremendous might as they throw in their lot with the headquarters of the revolution and find the greatest worth and happiness of living in protecting the leader at the cost of their lives and implementing the tasks given by him in a do-or-die spirit.
Their traits of regarding collectivism as their view on life are being fully displayed in their patriotic dedication to the drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation and their noble view on life based on collectivism is clearly manifested in such admirable revolutionary comradeship as helping and leading one another forward.
The servicepersons and people in the DPRK are fully prepared as the revolutionaries and people who consider socialist collectivism as their view on life. This is the most precious wealth of the revolution that can never be bartered for anything and a shining fruition of the Workers' Party of Korea's great Songun leadership and policy of the ideological revolution.

KCNA Blasts Japan's Despicable Political Plot

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- The Japanese magazine Weekly Post carried a false article slandering the DPRK which says Japan has obtained new shocking information about the surviving Yokota from U.K. intelligence service. According to the article, the British intelligence service obtained a photo of surviving Yokota through a military reconnaissance satellite in the summer of 2004 and a British government source conveyed to the Japanese prime minister's residence in the autumn of that year information that there was evidence proving that Megumi Yokota is alive.
The story said a diplomat of the British embassy in Pyongyang is an agent MI 6 who obtained convincing evidence to prove her survival, adding a journalist in Japan proved this by talking to the agent over phone. The information was immediately passed to some heavyweights of the Japanese regime and it was obvious that the information was greatly instrumental in heightening the anti-DPRK bitterness of the hardliners including Abe, acting secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, the article added.
We do not like to say anything about the misinformation floated by the magazine as it specializes in spreading rumors among the political and social circles as a mouthpiece of the Japanese ultra-right conservatives.
But we cannot but take note of the fact that there is the story about the British government's involvement in the "abduction issue".
In connection with the content of the article, an organ concerned of the DPRK officially asked the British embassy to confirm whether it is true or not. The British side's answer was negative.
As seen above, the Japanese ultra-right wing conservatives, hell bent on the anti-DPRK propaganda, have gone the lengths of resorting to such a shameless political adventure as plugging even an intelligence service of other country into the "abduction issue".
The spread of such baseless story can not be construed otherwise than a product of their foolish attempt to inject fresh energy into the waning smear campaign over the "abduction issue" and enlist support from the experienced British intelligence service for their bid to create again an atmosphere of sympathy with "abductees" among the international community.
This is another base political charade staged by the Japanese ultra-right conservatives to drive a wedge in the relations between the DPRK and the U.K. developing on good terms and cover up the truth behind the issue of examination of Yokota's remains.
As already reported, it is needless to say that the hysteric attitude of the Japanese ultra-right conservatives toward the "abduction issue" has not been recognized by the international community. And their preoccupation with the issue of Megumi Yokota has only been ridiculed and censured by the international community for their vulgar purpose and method.
After the husband of Megumi Yokota handed her remains to the Japanese side last year, the ultra-right forces floated the sheer fiction about "false remains", asserting that the results of the examination of the remains proved they were false.
Subsequently, the world-famous British science magazine Nature and the Japanese scientific circles gave a scientific explanation and recognition of the mistakes made in examining her remains, asserting that science and politics were mixed with each other as far as the issue of her remains is concerned. This has fully proved the truth behind the case.
The Japanese ultra-right conservatives have gone the lengths of resorting to any political chicanery, feeling unashamed at all of behaving against political and moral values and ethics. They can replace Yokota's remains by another's and paint even the dead as a person still alive, when necessary.
They do not bother to reduce science to a waiting maid of politics.
The same can be said of their relations with other countries.
Plugging an intelligence service of other country into the "abduction issue", a sensitive issue between the DPRK and Japan, is aimed at triggering off a diplomatic friction between the DPRK and the country concerned.
One may say it is the Japanese ultra-right conservatives' wicked political and moral point of view to make no scruples of sacrificing other country and people to achieve their purpose. It is, therefore, not hard to guess the truth behind this shocking farce and draw a conclusion from it.
The Japanese ultra-right conservatives are only keen on meeting their own political interests, regardless of whether they stand to reason or not.
This will, however, get Japan nowhere. For this behavior Japan will stand further marginalized and isolated in the international community.

Abnormal Weather in Korea

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Abnormal weather has been continuing in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the spring and summer, exerting an adverse effect on farming. Kim Si Chon, a section chief of the Technical Research Center for Agricultural Information under the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, told KCNA that cold air has blown into the Korean peninsula owing to the intensified Siberian high air pressure and northwest wind. It had delayed the spring season a week over the normal year and 10-15 days over last year, he said, and continued:
The spring sowing, therefore, was delayed in the country as a whole.
From April, the temperature largely changed due to the periodically alternate high and low air pressure. The rate of sunshine duration has been recorded as lower than the preceding years.
On April 4, 16, and 30 the temperature rose and lasted for consecutive days and on April 13, 20 and May 6 the high temperature fell and continued for some days in Pyongyang and other west coast areas, the granary of the country. They adversely affected the growth of crops.
Rarely strong winds blew in Kangwon Province and different northern areas, hindering preparations for rice-transplantation.
The June average temperature is 1 2.2 degrees centigrade lower than last year's. the amount of rainfall in the first ten days of the month is 35-60 millimeters, a 30 percent higher than that of the normal year. And it is envisaged that the average rate of sunshine hours for the month is 41 percent slightly lower than the normal year's. Kim Si Chon said that this summer the temperature throughout the country might be low, rainy season might come earlier than the preceding years, torrential rains might be recorded to cause flood and cold-weather damage might occur in some areas of the east coast.

Brilliant Life of Kim Chol Ju

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- June 14 is the 70th anniversary of the death of Kim Chol Ju, an indomitable revolutionary fighter. All the Korean people are now deeply looking back upon his life which was dedicated to the sacred war to liberate the country from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule.
He was born on June 12, Juche 5 (1916) in Mangyongdae-dong, Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang (Mangyongdae, Nam-ri, Kophyong-myon, Taedong County, South Phyongan Province at that time) as the second son of Kim Hyong Jik, an outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement and Kang Pan Sok, an outstanding leader of the women's movement in Korea.
He grew up, receiving revolutionary education from his parents and set out on the road for national liberation in his early years, following President Kim Il Sung, his elder brother.
He, who was active as a leading member of the Saenal Children's Union and the Young Communist League in the period when the Juche revolutionary cause was pioneered, closely rallied lots of children, youth and people of all strata around the organizations with his outstanding artistic knowledge and political activities.
True to the line of armed struggle advanced by the President, he dynamically conducted a struggle for seizing arms from the enemy and thus made a great contribution to laying the foundation for founding the anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army.
After the formation of the guerrilla army, he sent fine youth trained in the Young Communist League to the guerrilla army and conducted brisk activities to defend the guerrilla zone and consolidate the base for the armed struggle.
From 1933 he took part in fighting and distinguished himself in many battles including the Badaogou, Dadianzi and Fuerhe ones.
He, as a chief of the working group among the Chinese nationalist anti-Japanese units in Antu, also performed a great exploit in the struggle to implement the line on forming the anti-Japanese Korea-China joint front advanced by Kim Il Sung.
He died a heroic death in a fierce battle against Japanese imperialist aggression troops near Chechangzi in June, 1935. Short as his life was, it was a brilliant life for the country and the nation during which he showed how the revolutionaries should remain loyal to the leader and his cause.

Candlelight Memorial Service in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- A candlelight memorial service "Let's achieve peace in the Korean Peninsula against the plan for a war against the north and against the expansion of the Phyongthaek base! Toward society free from the U.S. forces with bright candlelight" was reportedly held in front of Kwanghwamun in Seoul on June 11 three years after the murder of Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son. At least 1,000 members of civic and public organizations, youth and students were present at the function co-sponsored by the People's Solidarity and the Reunification Solidarity.
A poem was recited to the memory of the two schoolgirls at the function.
And Jong Kwang Hun, permanent representative of the People's Solidarity, Ri Kyu Jae, chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, and other speakers said that "Hyo Sun and Mi Son did not give us sufferings only but taught us how much the candlelight can brighten the world." They stressed: "Let's all build a new society free from the U.S. forces, holding candlelight." They held that the Korean nation in the south and north should drive out the U.S. forces to achieve reunification by itself.
A declaration of struggle read out by Song Hyo Won, chairwoman of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils, and Pak Hui Jin, vice-chairman of the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations, said that civic and public organizations have decided to wage a vigorous struggle, setting a "period of all people's action for peace against war and for withdrawal of the U.S. forces" from June 13 when Hyo Sun and Mi Son were cruelly killed by the U.S. armored car to September 8, 60 years after the U.S. troops' occupation.
The declaration called for opening a new history free from the U.S. forces with determination to work off the grudge of Hyo Sun and Mi Son at any cost.
The function was followed by an art performance on the anti-U.S. theme and a ceremony of tearing off the Stars and Stripes.

Kim Yong Nam Receives Senegalese Government Delegation

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a friendly talk with the Senegalese government delegation led by Assane Diagne, minister of Urbanization and Territorial Management, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Monday.
