Actions for Removal of MacArthur's Statue Going on in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Joint Measure Committee of Struggle for the Withdrawal of the U.S. Forces from south Korea held a meeting at the square in front of the building of the Inchon City Office on June 3 strongly demanding the removal of the statue of MacArthur, the chieftain of the Korean war of aggression, according to the south Korean MBC. The organization expressed resentment at the authorities for having kept his statue in Freedom Park in Inchon for decades, deploring that such a thing cannot be found in any other place in the world.
At the end of the meeting, the organization handed an open letter demanding the removal of the statue to the mayor of Inchon before entering into a sit-in strike inside tents in front of the building.

Swiss Organization Brands U.S. as Wirepuller of Kwangju Massacre

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification released a statement on May 20 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the heroic Kwangju Popular Uprising. The statement referred to the fact that in May 1980 citizens in Kwangju attacked "police stations", seized weapons and occupied "the provincial and city" offices, putting the city under their full control, adding that Kwangju had remained a city of freedom where the popular masses were masters for several days and this meant new sprouts of an independent society in south Korea.
    It continued:
Much scared by this, Chun Doo Hwan, fascist dictator, and the U.S. imperialists, his master, cracked down upon the popular uprising in cold blood. This brutal action left at least 5,000 innocent people dead and over 14,000 wounded.
This monstrous massacre was wire-pulled by the U.S. imperialists occupying south Korea and holding the prerogative of supreme command over the south Korean forces.
The heroic popular uprising ended in a tragic failure but the south Koreans should never forget the monstrous massacre committed to suppress the uprising and its failure. That's why we call on the Swiss media not to keep mum for the sake of the U.S. but help the public commemorate the 25th anniversary of this event.

Actions for Withdrawal of U.S. Forces Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification in an article released on May 31 reportedly called on all the people to come out in the struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces. The article underscored the need to launch an all-people struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces with the publication of a joint statement of patriotic organization for reunifications in the north and the south and overseas opposing a war, desiring peace and demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. forces as a momentum.
It called on all public circles to wage a dynamic struggle against the U.S. hostile policy toward the north, its deployment of PAC in Kwangju and the transfer of the U.S. forces base to Phyongtaek in the do-or-die spirit that they cannot survive unless they put an end to the 60-year-long history of the U.S. forces' occupation and national division.
The present situation requires the people to realize the three forms of cooperation for national independence, peace against war, and reunification and patriotism and hold higher the banner of the struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces, the article notes, calling upon all of them to glorify June as a month of the struggle for the pullback of the U.S. forces with the faith in national independence, peace against war and reunification and patriotism.

Rally Held in S. Korea against U.S. Forces' Action to Dismiss Workers

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- At least 3,000 workers hired by a unit of the U.S. forces in south Korea held a rally in Ryongsan, Seoul on June 3 in protest against their action to dismiss local workers, according to the south Korean KBS. At the rally its participants accused the U.S. forces present in south Korea of announcing last April a "plan for a personnel cut" in which they said at least 1,000 employees at the unit of the U.S. forces would be fired, an expression of their discontent with south Korea's reduction of its share of the funds for their upkeep.
They demanded the U.S. forces withdraw the plan at once and reinstate the unemployed workers.
They threatened to call a general strike unless their demand is met.

Reception Given at Italian Office Here

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- A reception was given at the Office for Development and Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Sunday on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and Italy and its national day. Present there on invitation were officials concerned including Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kung Sok Ung, diplomatic envoys of various countries and representatives of international organizations here.
On hand were staff members of the Italian embassy including First Secretary Gianfranco Petruzzella, and Massimo Urbani, resident coordinator of the office.
Speeches were made at the reception.

Stop to U.S. War Moves Demanded

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity and the People's Solidarity of south Korea reportedly held an urgent news conference in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul on June 3 with regard to the U.S. deployment of F-117 Stealth fighter bombers in south Korea. The organizations expressed concern over the grave situation created by the distribution of the Stealth planes, means of preemptive attack, in south Korea, in which the war moves of the United States on the Korean Peninsula might go over to a real war.
They noted that the introduction of 15 Stealth planes, or 27 percent of the total possessed by the U.S., into south Korea meant that the U.S. war scheme in this land was past control.
Noting that the U.S. war moves were throwing a wet blanket over the climate of peaceful reunification of the south and the north and obstructing the June 15 grand festival for national reunification, they demanded a prompt stop to these moves trampling upon the ardent desire of the Koreans for reunification.
A letter of protest to the U.S. embassy was read out at the news conference.
At the end of the conference, the organizations destroyed models of the Stealth fighter bomber.

Diametrically Different Approach of Germany and Japan to Settlement of Past

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Japanese authorities should show an attitude of honestly reflecting on the past crimes, keenly feeling them, by following the example of Germany in settling the past, says Rodong Sinmun in a commentary Monday. The analyst goes on:
Japan and Germany, war accomplices and defeated nations in World War II, offer a startling contrast to each other in apologizing for and reflecting on their past crimes.
The German government has honestly made an apology and compensation for all the mental and physical sufferings and material losses caused to the victims by Nazi crimes, but Japan argues that it is legally not reasonable to compare the two countries in postwar settlement.
Refuting the sophistry of Japan, the commentary anatomizes its attempts to evade the responsibility for the past with a concrete, objective and relative logic from the viewpoint of fairness, universality, consistency and sincerity.
ˇˇFar from making a sincere apology and compensation to the countries it occupied in the past, Japan has run a whole gamut of tricks to gloss over its responsibility for the past, notes the analyst, and continues:
For example, it put the veil of "economic cooperation" on the compensation it made them reluctantly.
Germany shows the stand of making an honest compensation and apology even in the new century, if it is due. Japan, however, categorically refuses it, claming that it was already made in package solution. Paying no heed to the victims and their families, it is trying to soothe them with a negligible amount of money out of "civilian fund." It is even turning down the compensation claims of a few survivors among those drafted and forced to serve the imperial Japanese army as "comfort women."
While remaining quite insincere in reflecting on and settling the past, Japan is showing extra zeal in the revival of militarism, distortion of history and territorial expansion.
All in all, Germany is admitted as a legitimate member of the international community by establishing official state relations with all countries through an honest settlement of the past. But Japan, quite contrary, finds itself a target of hatred and curse in Asia for its negation and distortion of the past history and persistent evasion of its settlement and still has the stain of an enemy state on its name.
Japan would be well advised to behave itself properly, clearly seeing how the world views it.

Rodong Sinmun Observes Korean Children's Union Day

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 59th founding anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (KCU). On this occasion, the Korean people warmly congratulate the members of the KCU who are fully preparing themselves as successors to the Juche revolutionary cause, inheriting the precious tradition of the anti-Japanese Children's Corps.
President Kim Il Sung formed the Saenal Children's Union, the first revolutionary organization of children in Korea, on December 15, Juche 15 (1926) during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and strengthened and developed it. And, drawing on the experience, he founded the Korean Children's Union on June 6, Juche 35 (1946). Rodong Sinmun Monday dedicates an editorial to this anniversary, which says that the issue of bringing up the younger generation into the master of the future in Korea has been solved most successfully thanks to President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. Calling upon the members of the KCU to be mainstays of the bright future of Juche Korea, the editorial continues:
Nowhere in the world are children so sound ideologically and so pure mentally and morally as the KCU members who invariably believe in and follow President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and are boundlessly loyal to the country and people in any hard trials.
The KCU members should always remember the benevolence of the Workers' Party of Korea which brings them up into full-fledged mainstay for the future of Songun Korea and repay its love and benevolence by remaining true to the end to the oath they made before the flag of the KCU.
They should always hold Kim Il Sung in high esteem through all ages with profound reverence and be loyal to Kim Jong Il who defends the bright and blue sky over the country, making a constant long journey of Songun.
They should strive with might and main to realize their far-reaching ideal and aims to become heroes, doctors, scientists, labor innovators, artists and sportspersons to be remembered all the time by the Party and the country.

Rodong Sinmun on Idea of "By Our Nation Itself"

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The present main target of the Korean nation for carving out its destiny independently is to defend peace and achieve reunification. To this end, the whole nation should continue to hold high the idea of "By our nation itself" clarified in the historic June 15 joint declaration. Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article Monday.
    It goes on:
Should the entire nation at home and abroad join efforts under the banner of "By our nation itself" it will fully display its great might in achieving independent national reunification. The might of "By our nation itself" is that of the driving force, unity and patriotism.
The might has been fully proved in five years after the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration.
The United States is now hell-bent on war provocation moves against the DPRK, while glooming the prospect of nuclear issue settlement with its strong-arm action and pressure. Therefore, the Korean nation should check and frustrate the reckless moves of the foreign forces for a war of aggression against reunification and defend the cause of peace and reunification at any cost.
There is no more powerful ideological weapon than the idea of "By our nation itself" in defending the interests of the nation who has to pass through ordeals and difficulties. The Korean nation, strong in the spirit of independence and nationality as well as unity, should powerfully wage the sacred struggle for peace and reunification of the country with the idea of "By our nation itself" as a weapon as the joint declaration indicated.

End to Disgraceful History Called for in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) reportedly published an article on June 3 on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the June 3 Uprising, a popular uprising of youth and students and other people in south Korea. The uprising that raged all over south Korea in protest against the humiliating south Korea-Japan "talks" and "agreement" on June 3, 1964 was an expression of the firm will of the south Koreans to protect the national soul and pride to the end, the article noted, and continued:
The present reality is nothing different from that 41 years ago and the "government" should not bring disgrace to the nation any longer.
All the people should turn out as one to solve the issue of the destiny of the nation and that of the Korean Peninsula in the same spirit as displayed 41 years back.
We should destroy the south Korea-U.S-Japan alliance and frustrate the moves of the U.S. and Japan for a nuclear war against the peninsula through the concerted efforts of the nation.
Let us put an end to the disgraceful history in which the "Ulsa (1905) Five-point Treaty" was forced upon Korea and the U.S. occupation of south Korea has lasted for 60 years and usher in a new era of national independence and prosperity.

Korean Children's Union, 59 Years Old

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Korean Children's Union (KCU) is celebrating its 59th birthday on June 6. The Korean people are looking back with deep emotion on the glorious path covered by the Korean children's movement.
President Kim Il Sung, who regarded the work for rearing the children as an important issue related with the future of revolution, formed the Saenal Children's Union, the first revolutionary mass organization of children in Korea, on December 15, Juche 15 (1926) and thus pioneered the Korean children's movement.
Under his wise leadership the Saenal Children's Union developed into the Children's Corps against the Japanese imperialists, and in 1946 after the liberation of the country, the Korean Children's Union was founded to carry forward the traditions of the Children's Corps. As a result, the Korean children could closely rally and fight under the red flag of the revolution.
Leader Kim Jong Il, regarding the work of the KCU as an important one for bringing up the successors to the revolutionary cause, has wisely led to develop it in depth. Thanks to his warm care, the Korean children's movement has been developed on to a higher phase.
The members of the KCU are growing up into reliable future builders of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
Under the slogan "Ready Always for the Respected General Kim Jong Il!" the three million KCU members are preparing themselves to be dependable revolutionaries faithful to his idea and cause. They are a pride of the Korean people.

First Schoolchildren's Palace in DPRK

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- An endless stream of schoolchildren of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have visited the statue of President Kim Il Sung standing in front of the Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace on the occasion of the birthday of the Korean Children's Union. The palace, the first of its kind in the socialist Korea, reflects the ardent love shown by the President for the rising generation.
In October Juche 36 (1947) when the country badly needed even a penny for building a new country, the President initiated to build a children's palace with a bulk of money donated by traders and industrialists.
Initiating this, he said that from olden times, kings had occupied palaces but in the liberated Korea, the children should occupy palaces. He added rearing the children well made it possible to strengthen the country and achieve its prosperity. And he chose the site of the palace on Jangdae Hill in the heart of Pyongyang.
The palace, which was under construction, was razed to the ground by the indiscriminate bombings of the U.S. imperialists during the Korean war.
In July 1953 when discussing the issue of rehabilitating and constructing Pyongyang, the President designated the construction of the palace as one of the main objects.
He saw to it that a modern palace with a floor space of 50,000 square meters, nearly 11 times that of the original one was constructed.
He gave field guidance to the construction site on several occasions, with the result that the construction of the palace was completed as a comprehensive center for extracurricular education for schoolchildren in September 1963.
Today there are more than 160 palaces and halls for schoolchildren including the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace, the February 16 Schoolchildren's Palace and the Kaesong Schoolchildren's Palace throughout the country.

KCNA Terms U.S. Kingpin of "Human Traffic"

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The U.S. State Department in its recent "report on human traffic" termed the DPRK a human traffic source nation and malignantly slandered it, asserting that its government shuns the protection of flesh traffic victims and has not taken even the minimum measure for combating it. It admits of no argument that this is part of the U.S. anti-DPRK psychological operation aimed to damage the international prestige of the dignified DPRK and realize a "regime change" in it.
As for human traffic, it is reported time and again in the United States, a rogue state which has profited from slave trade and flesh traffic since its extermination of millions of native Indians and where fin-de-siecle lifestyle based on money-almighty conception and jungle law prevails.
Its institutional mechanism facilitates the pauperization in mental and cultural life, driving people into corruption, despair and crimes. Organized crimes and various forms of abduction have forced great many foreigners to fall victims to American-imposed slave labor and sexual harassment. This is the real picture of the American society.
The U.S. is cursed and censured worldwide as the kingpin of man-hunting and flesh traffic from the historical and contemporary viewpoints. Yet, the U.S. does not feel ashamed of behaving as if it were a human rights judge. How ridiculous it is!
It is quite out of logic for such country to speak critical of other countries over human traffic.
The socialist system in the DPRK is a genuine popular system whereby its people are granted all political rights and freedom by law and everything is made to serve them.
Everyone is given a job according to his or her ability and wish and women receive preferential social treatment in the DPRK, a society based on man-centered Juche idea. The nature of Korean-style socialism does not allow such social vice as human traffic. This being a hard reality, the U.S. again pulled up the DPRK over its non-existent human traffic issue. This only indicates that the U.S. administration has gone to a reckless phase in its moves to damage the legitimate authority of the DPRK government over the flesh traffic issue plus the nuclear issue and put its intention to blockade the DPRK into practice.
Disputes in different parts of the world have produced many refugees and it is plagued with a full dimension of crimes and social vices including flesh traffic. This is a product of the war policy pursued by the U.S. against humanity to achieve its ambition for world domination.
U.S. intelligence institutions have persisted in their sinister operations to abduct DPRK citizens on its border areas and take them to other countries.
All facts suffice to prove that the human traffic much touted by the U.S. is not the problem of any other country but its own problem and that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for the crude violation of the independent rights of the popular masses and the worldwide disaster, misfortune and social vices.
