Photo Exhibition Opens in Beijing

Beijing, May 28 (KCNA) -- A photo exhibition opened at the Metropolitan Library in Beijing on May 27 under the co-sponsorship of the Korean Cameramen's Union Central Committee and the Chinese Photographers' Association on the occasion of the first anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's unofficial visit to China. On display at the exhibition are more than 70 photographs showing the whole course of Kim Jong Il's visit to China including the meeting and the talks between General Secretary Kim Jong Il and Hu Jintao, general secretary of the C.C., the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China.
A vice-secretary general of the association in his speech said that in that period the top leaders of the two countries exchanged views on the issues of boosting the ties between the two parties and two countries and the bilateral economic and trade cooperation and other issues of mutual concern and reached a consensus.
Noting that the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship provided and developed by Chairman Mao Zedong and other Chinese leaders of the elder generation and President Kim Il Sung is a common treasure of the two countries, he hoped that the exhibition would provide an opportunity of further expanding and developing the friendship between the two countries.
Present at the opening ceremony were officials of the China Federation of Literature and Art Circles, the Chinese Association for Cultural Exchanges with Foreign Countries and the Chinese Photographers' Association and people from all walks of life.
Also present there were the delegation of the Korean Cameramen's Union led by Choe Kyong Guk, chairman of its Central Committee who is director and editor-in-chief of the Foreign Languages Publishing House, and the DPRK ambassador to China and staff members of the embassy.

Japan's Rash Military Move Assailed

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) --The Japanese Sankei Shimbun reported that the Japan Defence Agency is contemplating deploying 4 "FPS-XX", new type ground radar, in Niigata, Okinawa and other places to cope with the possible "missile attacks" of the DPRK and China. This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun Monday. Such move of the Japanese reactionaries is aimed at legalizing and justifying their preemptive strikes at the DPRK and China as "military actions for self-defence" under the pretext of "intercepting" ballistic missiles, the commentary observes, and goes on:
It is well known that the Japanese reactionaries have pushed forward the revision of the "law on Self-Defence Forces" for the purpose of buying cruise missile "Tomahawk" and "intercepting" ballistic missiles under the pretext of a "precautionary measure."
The above-mentioned revision of the law is clearly aimed at mounting a preemptive attack, not for defence.
The Japanese reactionaries' proposed revision of the law allows the director general of the Defence Agency to order the interception of any missiles when there is the sign of flying towards Japan with the consent of the prime minister and the commander of a SDF unit to issue an order to intercept any missiles with his own decision in case of their surprise launch even in the absence of any sign.
Their planned deployment of the new type ground radar is a dangerous move to make preemptive missile strikes at the DPRK and China.
The Japanese reactionaries are also contemplating working out a "plan for Japan-U.S. joint counter-action" under the pretext of coping with an "emergency" in the surrounding areas. At the meeting of "the U.S.-Japan security consultative committee" held in February last Japan confirmed a "common strategic goal."
These are also rash military acts of disturbing regional stability.

Agreement on Cooperation between DPRK and China Signed

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- An agreement on the 44th meeting of the DPRK-China Border River Transport Cooperation Committee was signed here Sunday. Attending at the signing ceremony were the members of the delegations of the DPRK and Chinese sides to the committee.
The agreement was signed by Ri Nam Jong, head of the DPRK delegation, and Zheng Yu Zhuo, head of the Chinese delegation.

Diverse Functions Held

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The Egyptian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea held a seminar, the C.C., the Poland-Korea Association round-table talks and the Secretariat of the National Movement of Uganda a reading session on leader Kim Jong Il's short biography of revolutionary activities and his famous work "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" on May 23 and 24 on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee and the 5th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Yehia Jakariya Khairallah, chairman of the Egyptian committee, in his report at the seminar said the greatest feat performed by Kim Jong Il is that he has strengthened and developed the WPK, an organizer of all victories of the Korean people, into the party of President Kim Il Sung. One of the characteristic features of the WPK that distinguish it from the parties of other countries is that it has always found itself among the people and equipped them with the idea of the leader, thus solving all problems with the might of the ideology, he added, and went on:
The DPRK, though not big in its territory, has firmly defended the national dignity and sovereignty from the U.S. styling itself the "only superpower." This is entirely ascribable to the unity of the leader, the army and people forming an integral whole and the might of the ideology.
Tadeusz Bialkowski, first vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Polish association, and a vice-chairman of its Central Committee and other participants in the round-table talks referred to the originality and great vitality of the Songun policy enforced by Kim Jong Il. They resolved to invigorate the information service to introduce the DPRK and conduct a positive solidarity movement supporting the Korean people in their struggle for the reunification of the country and the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
Latigo Oral, deputy director for Foreign Relations of the Secretariat of the National Movement of Uganda, at the reading session spoke highly of the undying feats performed by Kim Jong Il in party building and stressed that the WPK would always emerge victorious under his leadership.

Moves to Revive Pro-U.S. Forces in S. Korea under Fire

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The moves to revive pro-U.S. forces in south Korea are an extension and a new version of the U.S. colonial rule over south Korea and interference in it. Those are also a product of the complicity of outside forces seeking a permanent occupation of south Korea with sycophantic traitors trying to prolong their remaining days by relying upon them. Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article Monday. Alarmed over the anti-American sentiments mounting among the south Koreans and the advance of the progressive forces into the political circles in the wake of the June 15 event, the U.S. has tried hard to foster neo-conservative forces while consolidating the foothold of the traditional pro-U.S. conservatives, the article says, and goes on:
The moves to revive pro-U.S. forces are a serious infringement upon sovereignty aimed to dampen south Koreans' daily-growing spirit of independence against the U.S.
The White House think tank conceived the idea of organizing new pro-U.S. reactionary organizations involving right-wing conservatives as part of its efforts to benumb the spirit of independence against the U.S. daily- growing among the south Koreans and stamp out the anti-U.S. struggle.
The U.S. is knocking into shape neo-conservative organizations with youngsters who turned renegade after being active in the student movement circles in the 1980s and those with conservative tendency, reactionary intellectuals and religionists and is nudging them to confrontation with the anti-U.S. independent forces.
The current U.S. moves are anti-peace and anti-reunification acts which would curb the reconciliation and unity of the Korean nation and spark off confrontation and escalation of tension between the north and the south.
The U.S. which is in disfavor with the Korean nation's reunification has directly interfered with cooperation undertakings between the north and the south of Korea. It has also desperately undercut the nation's efforts for reconciliation and cooperation by manipulating right-wing conservative forces to spawn shocking incidents.
The revival of pro-U.S. forces and their maneuvers against reunification have created an atmosphere of confrontation contradictory to the era of "By our nation itself" and barred the work for unity and cooperation from achieving due successes.
The revival of pro-U.S. forces is an odious fascistization move curbing the progressive advancement of the south Korean society and turning it pro-U.S. and reactionary. The south Koreans and all other Koreans should look straight into the danger of the U.S. crafty and dangerous moves to revive pro-U.S. forces and resolutely turn out in the struggle to foil them.

Rodong Sinmun on Idea of "By Our Nation Itself"

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday in an article says the idea of "By our nation itself" laid down in the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration is a bright beacon lighting the path of independently shaping the destiny of the nation and the banner of victory. The author of the article continues:
Unless the Korean nation upholds the idea, it is impossible for it to sustain its existence, to say nothing of its development and prosperity, today when the U.S. imperialists are getting more desperate in their moves against it and its reunification, while challenging its reunification cause with strong-arm practices, unilateralism and undisguised interference and obstructions. "By our nation itself" is, indeed, the only way for the Korean nation to independently shape its destiny.
The core of the idea is national independence.
As specified in the joint declaration, national reunification should be achieved independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation, the master of reunification. Independently solving the reunification issue is the core and main idea of the joint declaration.
By stating that the reunification issue should be settled by the united strength of the Korean nation itself, the north-south joint declaration brought together the north and the south, which had been hostile to each other, as the parties directly concerned with reunification, and turned the inter-Korean relations into those of reconciliation and reunification and created a climate for defusing military tension and danger of war on the Korean Peninsula. The idea of "By our nation itself" sets the great unity of the nation as the indispensable requisite.
The movement of the Korean nation for reunification which has advanced through trying ordeals and difficulties over the past five years has patently attested to the philosophical principle that the destiny and the future of the nation depend on unity. Our nation would defend everything and emerge victorious, given unity, but would lose everything and become a slave without it. This is the lesson taught by the history of the reunification movement. Stressing that the Korean nation is a homogeneous nation with the same ancestry and language and the same culture and history, the article concludes: The Korean nation can closely unite, transcending differences in idea and ideology, political view and religious belief, class and social stratum, and this will display inexhaustible might, provided that all the members of the nation in the north, the south and overseas advance toward national reunification together, putting the common interests of the nation in the foreground, guided by the single idea of patriotism.

Cancellation of Plan for Operating "SHDC" Demanded

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities sent a "plan for operating the Students Homeland Defence Corps (SHDC) in wartime" to the high schools. The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in information bulletin No. 903 released on May 29 in this connection terms this a blatant challenge to the historic June 15 joint declaration and a grave provocative act to chill the atmosphere of reconciliation, unity and reunification growing strong throughout Korea. It further says:
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources of south Korea sent the above-said plan to the high schools in which it instructed them to organize the SHDC and turn it into "a war assisting organization" the moment a war threat has come.
The plan requires the headmasters and other teachers to play the role of battalion commander or higher-rank officer and students to perform the role of platoon leader or lower-rank commander and rifleman. It also requires the students to carry numbers of members of the SHDC similar to serial numbers of servicemen even in peacetime. It is stipulated in the plan that even middle schoolers will be mobilized in wartime and the SHDC turned into a wartime organization in the event of "Chungmu 2" in which the situation is judged as a "war threat" short of a war. This plan contains even a clause calling for listing the left-inclined students and teachers in peacetime under the pretext of "guiding the leftist students in wartime" and "specially overseeing them" in wartime.
The south Korean authorities sent such plan to the high schools for the purpose of mobilizing even teachers and students for a war at a time when the U.S. moves for a war of aggression against the north have reached an extremely dangerous phase. We bitterly condemn this move because we cannot construe it otherwise than an act of cooperating with the U.S. bellicose forces seeking confrontation and war against the north.
The information bulletin demands the south Korean authorities face up to the reality and behave themselves, stop the racket of confrontation with the north and cancel at once the plan to operate the SHDC, a move going against the trend of the times.
It calls on the south Korean youth and students and other people to determinedly come out against the revival of the criminal SHDC and wage a dynamic struggle for its abolition.

Sports Books Published in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- The Sports Publishing House in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has published new books for developing sports technology in a scientific way. The book "Mathematic Fundamentals for Regulating Sports Training " deals with basic questions for ensuring scientific accuracy in regulating sports training -- the method of judging physical, technical and tactical preparedness of athletes and estimating their records, method of judging effectiveness of training and method of analyzing the burden and intensity of training.
The books "Sports Physiology and Training Effect" and "Athletic Ability and Nutrition" explain about physiological principles for sports and athletic development and their effectiveness and system of providing energy. They include the generation of energy in bodies of athletes and its application, nutritive substances needed for exercises and recovery from fatigue.
The book "Drug Guide for Athletes" introduces more than 1,200 medicines for the treatment of athletes' injuries, recovery from fatigue and for gaining physicality.

World's First Rocket Made in Korea

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- "Rocket" weapons were made and used by Korea already in the period of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668). The first "rocket" was very simple but its principle is similar with that of modern one.
A jet-propelled weapon called Kwanghwi demonstrated its might in a battle near the castle in Mt. Pukhan in 661.
People of Koryo (918-1392) made a "rocket" called Hwajon.
Hwajon was 726 millimeters long and its arrowhead 90 millimeters long. The arrow was shot by lighting the cartridge.
According to a historical record, Koryo manufactured lots of Hwajon around 1127 and deployed them in vantage points for national defence.
On the basis of arrows with fire wicks made in the period of the three kingdoms, Koreans developed Singijon, the origin of multistage rocket, in the early 15th century.
There were three kinds of Singijon according to their sizes, types and powder-cartridges.
The small one was a two-stage rocket. The medium one with one more small cartridge than the small one was a three-stage rocket, while the large one with four cartridges and wings was a four-stage rocket.
Having a great firing power, they could strike far-off targets on land and big warships. The weapons were widely used during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592) against the Japanese invaders and other battles against invaders. They were also used as signal means.
They are precious historical relics showing the intelligence and patriotism of the Korean nation.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected KPA Unit 3407. He climbed a forward command post and feasted his eyes on vast defence theatres.
He acquainted himself with the terrain conditions and the deployment of forces before receiving report on the situation from the commander of the unit. Commanding a bird's-eye-view of the city and villages, the fertile land and the beautiful sea humming with creation and changes, which remind one of the high spirit of Songun Korea, he said the country's prosperity and development and people's happiness are firmly guaranteed as the servicepersons of the KPA are standing firm guard over the beloved socialist country which can not be bartered for anything.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled to increase the unit's combat capability and consolidate the defence theatre as firm as an iron wall, satisfied to learn that the servicepersons of the unit are closely following the U.S. imperialists' moves for aggression and performing their guard duties in a responsible manner with a high degree of vigilance.
He dropped in at the command of the unit and learned about how political work is conducted among the unit's servicepersons, going round servicepersons' hall, a library and other facilities for the ideological education and entertainment.
He underscored the need to pay primary attention to the ideological education in order to firmly prepare all the servicepersons as ideologically strong fighters, praising the unit for having built a modern servicepersons' hall and a library and operated them on a regular basis to be of great help to the education of them.
He inspected a tactical lecture for commanding officers and a technical lecture for soldiers at military lecture rooms.
He called for steadily intensifying the training, noting with high appreciation that the unit has conducted drills aimed at improving the operational command and increasing the combat capability in a militant manner under the simulated conditions of an actual battle and thus trained all the commanding officers and men into stalwart fighters capable of undertaking any difficult combat duties, successfully organizing and commanding any operations.
He learned in detail about soldiers' service and living, looking round an educational room, a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a wash-cum-bath house, a non-stable food store, an outdoor resting place, a barn and other places.
He gave the unit meticulous instructions, looking after every aspect of soldiers' living ranging from their use of publications, watch of TV sets to the architectural structure and heating of their bedrooms, quantity of water supplied to their wash-cum-bath house and their use of saunas.
Noting that all the units of the People's Army he has visited are assiduously and methodically managing their economic life as one because they always breathe the same breath with the party by fully embodying the idea, spirit and view on life taught by it, he emphasized that this is a brilliant tradition and proud traits consistently maintained by the army.
He had a photo session with servicepersons of the unit, expressing great expectation and conviction that they would achieve signal success in the honorable service for defending the country.

Japon quiere romper estabilidad regional, denuncia Rodong Sinmun
