S. Korean Ruling Party's Treachery Denounced

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front Wednesday made public a statement denouncing the Uri Party of south Korea for swimming against the trend of the times towards a progressive reform in conspiracy with the Grand National Party (GNP), according to Kuguk Jonson Internet site. Recalling that the Uri Party at a recent extraordinary session of the "National Assembly" met the unreasonable demands of the GNP group when discussing the "bill on the past history," the statement noted this is nothing but a product of the political bargaining conducted by the ruling party with the anti-reform GNP behind closed doors.
    It went on:
The Uri Party at a political huddle with the GNP group held at the end of last year had already compromised with it on canceling its plan to handle a legislation on reforms within the year and taking it up at an extraordinary session of the NA in February this year. As if it were not enough with this deferment, the ruling party reduced the "law on the past history," the first of its kind in the history of the NA, to an anti-reform law, thus committing a crime against history.
A particular mention should be made of the fact that the Uri Party conducted "another compromise bargaining" with the GNP. Afterwards the ruling party at the above-said session went without even taking up the issue of the "National Security Law," though it had promised to get it scrapped at the session, in return for passing "bill on the construction of the administrative city," thereby unhesitatingly breaking the promise made with the people.
The Uri Party can never evade the responsibility for seriously scuttling the purport of the legislation on reforms and thus chilling the people's desire and bringing the reform process to a setback.
The Uri Party, which once advocated progressive reforms, departed from its earlier stand and opted for a political collusion with the GNP under the pretext of what it called viable politics, openly shunning progressive reform.
This is a treacherous act of swimming against the trend of the times in which people aspire after the new. It is quite clear what will be entailed by the political bargaining and collusion with the GNP group forsaken by the compatriots. The Uri Party should behave itself, bearing in mind that it is closely watched by the pro-progressive reform forces and people's punishment knows no mercy.

"OPLAN 8022-02" Flailed

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- It has been disclosed that the United States worked out "OPLAN 8022-02", a scenario of preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK, in top secrecy last year. In this regard a spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement on Thursday.
This plan said to be approved by U.S. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld is extremely provocative in content which calls for striking the designated targets swiftly and accurately by air-raid and neutralizing north Korea's reaction by electronic and cyber attack before removing and seizing its nuclear devices by hurling small special units.
It is a very dangerous plan for a war against the DPRK which envisages that the U.S. would invent a pretext of a certain "sign" any moment to mount a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK as it is a measure to cope with north Korea's missile attack on the U.S. mainland or a sign of imminent attack, the statement says, and goes on:
This shows the U.S. phraseology that it recognizes north Korea as a sovereign state and it has no intention to invade the latter is a lie and its eloquence about the six-party talks is a rhetoric and its real intention is to stifle the DPRK.
It is only too natural for the DPRK to increase self-defensive nuclear deterrent to defend the dignity and security of the nation under the condition that the U.S. has worked out even the plan for a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK in top secrecy while getting frantic in the nuclear racket against it. The DPRK is prepared to counter any aggression and provocation of the U.S.
If the U.S. ventured a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK under an absurd pretext, the army and the people of the latter would mercilessly punish the aggressor and provoker with the powerful nuclear deterrent they have built with much effort.

DPRK to React to Any Sanctions of Japan with Tough Retaliatory Measures

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The DPRK will react to Japan's move to apply economic sanctions against the DPRK with tough retaliatory measures. Rodong Sinmun Friday warns this in a signed commentary assailing Japan for contemplating applying economic sanctions against the DPRK single-handed, independent of the United States.
The Japanese reactionaries, much upset by the world public paying no heed to the so-called "abduction issue", are working hard to build up public opinion favorable for them and "single-handed application of economic sanctions" is part of their new anti-DPRK campaign, the commentary observes, and continues:
Japan's loudmouthed "single-handed application of economic sanctions" is aimed at keeping the world opinion on the "abduction issue" from waning in a bid to pressurize the DPRK and wrest any concession from the latter.
The DPRK clearly stated more than once that it would regard any sanctions against it as a declaration of war. Nevertheless, the Japanese reactionaries are contemplating the application of economic sanctions against the DPRK.
This is a deliberate and premeditated provocative move to scrap the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and drive the confrontation between the two countries to a dangerous phase of clash.
The hostile relations between the two countries are now inching close to the dangerous phase of explosion. Under this situation the DPRK is left with no option but to take a decisive counter- measure.
The army and the people of the DPRK value its sovereignty as their life and soul and will never allow anyone to infringe upon it.

Tight Grip on Idea in General March of Songun Revolution Urged

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- To steadily develop the ideological revolution in depth is a worthwhile struggle to bring about an unprecedented leap and renovation in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist country this significant year which marks the 60th anniversaries of the Workersf Party of Korea and the liberation of the country, Rodong Sinmun Friday says in an editorial. It goes on:
To keep a tight hold on idea as the main point is an important work to increase in every way the might of unity in mind of the Workers' Party of Korea, the army and the people rallied close around the headquarters of the revolution.
All the Party members, officers and men of the Korean Peoplefs Army and the people in general should become the vanguard standard-bearers of the Songun revolution who cherish the Juche idea and the line of the Songun revolution of the Party as their faith and live and struggle as required by them. The Juche idea and the line of the Songun revolution are the political philosophy of the Party and the state and the eternal banner of victory in the Songun revolution. We should keep in mind these idea and line, which were upheld by the revolutionary forerunners at the cost of blood, as our unshakable faith, whatever storms and ordeals may face us on the way of the march of our revolution and live and work as demanded by them. The hardcore of the faith of Juche we should cherish is the unquestioned conviction that our idea and line are the best and our way of the Songun revolution is the most correct and the death-defying will to defend our idea and cause and the dignity of the nation at the cost of our lives under any condition. Deeply engraving on our hearts the essential meaning of the line of the Songun revolution that arms are immediately the revolution and the destiny of the nation, we should always share destiny with arms, rain or shine, and thus work bigger miracles and perform greater feats in the worthwhile general march today under the banner of Songun.
All the Party members and other working people should deeply grasp the idea of collectivism theoretically and have the firm faith in the advantages of socialism and its victory.
We should decisively smash the enemiesf moves to disintegrate our ranks from within and their scurvy psychological warfare to resolutely defend our ideology and idea, our morality and way of life.

Origin of Nature-Remaking in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung initiated the River Pothong improvement project, first of its kind in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, as an important work for building a new Korea. On May 21, Juche 35 (1946), he broke the ground for the project. Before the liberation of the country (1945), the river had been flooded in rainy season every year, submerging lots of houses and cultivated land. Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, he said that the project should be carried out successfully to mark the start of the nature-remaking work for building a rich and powerful democratic and independent state.
Greatly inspired by his speech, Pyongyang citizens completed the project, in which they had to build a five-kilometer-long dam with transport of more than 420,000 cubic meters of earth, in a matter of 55 days.
The completion of the project freed the River Pothong from flood once and for all and renewed the looks of Pyongyang.
Along the River Pothong, a ten-kilometer-long canal was dug, recreation grounds with a total area of more than 300 hectares appeared and many grand monumental edifices such as the People's Palace of Culture, Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Ice Rink and Changgwang Health Complex constructed.
The grand nature-remaking, initiated by the President, has been accelerated on a larger scale under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
He said that the land-rezoning project is a part of the grand nature-remaking for the development of the country and a patriotic work for the posterity. True to his instruction, the Korean people have converted small plots of the country into vast standardized fields in a short span of time.
Such nature-remaking projects as the construction of the natural-flow Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Waterway and the Youth Hero Motorway have changed the looks of the country.

Rice-transplanting Gets into Full Stride in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Rural communities throughout the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are now busy with rice-transplanting. With the rice-transplanting season coming in good earnest, Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), and other Pyongyang-based newspapers editorially called upon all people to finish the work in time and do this year's farming successfully, thus significantly celebrating the 60th anniversary of the WPK.
The Party, state and people are all out in rice-transplanting.
The people of the agricultural field, the main front of the socialist economic construction this year, have started rice-transplanting with a strong sense of responsibility for the agricultural production, while officials, workers and office employees are sincerely helping them with a high degree of patriotism and obligation befitting citizens.
Among the helpers are servicepersons mobilized in rice-transplanting to implement a noble intention of Kim Jong Il, supreme commander of the Korean People's Army.
From the first day of their mobilization, they have fully displayed the revolutionary soldier spirit in all farming works.
Rice-fields are now seething with traveling art propaganda troupes, information activities, loudspeaker cars and field broadcasting.
The Ministry of Chemical Industry and other national institutions, agencies and enterprises have rendered much assistance to farms.
