Her remarkable talent for music was not a basic factor of her success.
Leader Kim Jong Il took benevolent measures to train her into a world-famous pianist.
So she could rose to such fame thanks to her persevering efforts to repay his loving care without fail.

Born as the youngest daughter of the family, she was very sensitive to music from her early years.

She received systematic education, going through the faculty for preliminary education at Pyongyang University of Music and Dance, its specialized course, university faculty and doctoral institute.
She is calm and sentimental in her character, but has an exceptional passion for music.
Her heart was always afire with the ardent enthusiasm to live in such a way as to honor the noble feats performed by her maternal grandfather and other fighters of the People's Army in the hard-fought battles during the Fatherland Liberation War.
That was why she often played the piano concerto "To the Road of Decisive Battle" before the audience to express her feelings.
Later, she came to have the chance to study at Moscow State Conservatory Named after Tchaikovsky. Proud of being a daughter of Songun Korea, she did her best to put her artistic skill on such a high level in those days that she could make her debut in the international concours.

Anti-National Behavior of S. Korean Minister under Fire

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly made public a statement on May 7 denouncing the south Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pan Ki Mun who sang duet with the Japanese foreign minister calling for taking the nuclear issue of the DPRK to the UN Security Council at "talks of foreign ministers" in Japan on May 6. The statement said:
In the capacity of the minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, he should have demanded, when he met his Japanese counterpart, the settlement of the past Japanese imperialists' colonial rule, sternly condemned Japan's distortion of history and moves to grab Tok Islet that reveal the militarist ambition of Japan, and wrested from it an apology and promise to check their recurrence, lending an ear to the voice of the nation.
Pan is standing exposed to criticism by the Korean nation for his reckless remarks on May 4 that "the process of a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue of the north is facing a grave phase" and the north "should not persist in its argument that stands to no reason but come to the six-party talks at an early date."
His acts make us suspect him to be "a foreign minister of the U.S." acting on special orders of warmonger Bush. As the south Korean government acts at the beck and call of the U.S., even such guy as the Japanese foreign minister mumbled about "taking the nuclear issue of the north to the UNSC," the statement noted, urging the government to immediately stop the anti-national diplomatic activity of Pan who plays the role of a servant of the U.S. and Japan, turning his back on the people's sentiments.

Overall Investigation into Remains of Koreans Demanded

Tokyo, May 11 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Japanese government decided to send inquiry papers to about 100 companies concerned in the country in order to find facts about the remains of Korean victims to forcible drafting who were driven to slave labor after being taken to Japanese enterprises in labor and military conscription during World War II and announce the results of the investigation in around August, according to the May 5 issue of Japan's Asahi Shimbun. In this regard, the Fact-finding Group on the Forcible Drafting of Koreans on May 7 made public a statement in joint name of Koreans and Japanese.
Noting that the Japanese government decided to make an investigation into the remains of Korean victims to forcible drafting as late as today when 60 years have passed after the defeat of the Japanese imperialists, the statement says:
It is reported that the Japanese government sent inquiry papers about the remains to only about 100 companies concerned. But, according to a survey, there are over 1,500 enterprises related to forcible drafting.
Labor and military conscription was forced not by ivilians but by the government. So the truth behind the remains cannot be probed through investigation by a small number of enterprises alone.
The Japanese government should sincerely look back on the past and make an overall investigation into the remains by all means possible.

Jo Myong Rok Meets Cuban Military Delegation

Pyongyang May 13 (KCNA) -- Vice Marshal of the Korean People's Army (KPA) Jo Myong Rok, first vice-chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and director of the General Political Department of the KPA, Friday met and had a friendly talk with the delegation of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba led by Lieut. General Leonardo Andouo Valdes, vice-chief of the General Staff and director of the Operations Department of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. The head of the Cuban delegation said that the friendly ies between Cuba and the DPRK which have struggled against the U.S. imperialist gangster-like arbitrary practices are growing stronger and their vitality has been strikingly demonstrated. During our stay we have seen for ourselves the Korean army and people waging a vigorous struggle to defend the sovereignty and system of their country, united single-mindedly around leader Kim Jong Il, he added.
Noting that only when the revolutionary principle is dhered to in the showdown with the U.S. imperialists, is it possible to win victory in it, he said that the Cuban party, government, army and people fully support the Korean army and people in their struggle.
On hand were General Ri Myong Su, Col. General Pak Sung Won and other general officers and officers of the KPA and Ambassador Ruben Perez Valdes and Military Attache Giraldo Abreu Morales of the Cuban embassy here.

"Law on Past History" Recently Adopted in S. Korea Termed Unpopular

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) - The "law on the past history" that had long remained a controversial issue between the ruling and opposition camps formally passed through the south Korean National Assembly recently. But it turned out to be an unpopular one as it is quite contrary to its original purport. It was a product of the compromise between the two camps. The law calls for ncluding what they call "violence by pro-north and pro-communist forces" denying and antagonizing the "true nature" of the south Korean system among the objects of the probe into the past crimes. Rodong Sinmun Friday says in a signed commentary in this regard:
The south Korean political camp adopted this legislation, which takes issue even with the just struggle of the pro-reunification patriotic forces, defying the unanimous demand of various public circles in south Korea for probing the truth behind past crimes. This is another dangerous provocation and a crime against reunification because it is aimed at debasing the righteous patriotic struggle of the south Korean people and fanning up the north-south confrontation.
The law justifies the hideous fascist outrages committed by the dictatorial regimes of south Korea against the nation and reunification in the past under the pretext of preserving the "true nature of the system" and brands the pro-reunification progressive patriotic figures as criminals and objects of investigation, making profound confusing of assailants and victims.
This legislation cannot be called "a law on adjusting the past history" but should be termed "law on whitewashing the past crimes."
It was due to the trick of the south Korean Grand National Party that the "law on the past history" stopped short of meeting the people's desire though it drew so great attention of the south Korean public. What the south Korean National Assembly did as regards this law goes to clearly prove once again that as long as the GNP remains in south Korea, progress and reform are hardly achievable and the south Korean people can never enjoy an independent life and democracy. The GNP has already become busy with its moves to win the next "presidential election". The desperate efforts made by this party to seek the carriage of the bill clearly indicate what serious consequences will be entailed by its success in the election.

U.S. Denounced for Taking Issue with DPRK's Penal System

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The United States has shouted itself hoarse over the "human rights issue" of the DPRK and, as if it were not enough, is now peddling a ware taking issue even with its penal system under the national law, thus misleading public opinion. Commenting on this a Rodong Sinmun analyst Friday says:
This does not deserve even a passing note, being intended to besmear the international image of the DPRK and topple its system.
What matters is that the U.S., the worst human rights buser in the world which has the most nefarious penal system and engages itself in aggression, murder and interference in others' internal affairs every where in the world, is overreaching itself in talking rubbish about other's penal system. The U.S. is not in a position to wag its tongue about others' penal system.
Truth to tell, the U.S. is an empire of devils with the most pernicious and brutal penal system where murder and looting are a part and parcel of culture. It was the first in the world to enforce and maintain the punishing method of binding the limbs of prisoners to electric chairs to torture and kill them. This method has a history of one hundred and scores of years since it was effected in the U.S. in 1890.
It is the height of sarcasm that the U.S. is crying for "human rights" and "democracy" while covering up its crimes and true colors as the hideous kingpin of human rights abuses. This is an insult to and mockery of true human rights and democracy.
The U.S. criticism of the DPRK's national law, which entirely agrees with its conditions and the interests and demand of its people, can never be tolerated as it is an act to vilify and pull down Korean-style socialism.
The U.S. should not distort and decry and point an accusing finger at the national laws pertaining to the sovereignty of other countries, but abolish, first of all, its most cruel and brutal penal system and methods and stop aggression, human rights abuses and interference in others' internal affairs.
For the U.S. to seek the "overthrow" of the DPRK's system by despicable and malicious means is a daydream of an idiot as foolish as attempting to cover the sun with a palm.

Maintenance of Principle of National Independence Urged

Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- All the fellow countrymen should hold higher the banner of national independence, if they are to tide over the present grave situation on the Korean Peninsula and pave the way out for the nation, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Friday. Noting that national independence is the fundamental guarantee for the Koreans to reject outsiders' aggression and interference, defend the country's peace and security and lead the cause of national reunification all along to victory, the article says a tight hold should be consistently kept on the principle of national independence.
    The article goes on:
To abide by the principle of national independence is the intrinsic demand in shaping the destiny of the nation and the basic principle coinciding with the right to self-determination of the nation.
If a nation loses independence and fails to free itself from outside forces' domination and subjugation, it will find its rights and interests trampled underfoot and, in the end, be sure to meet the destiny of a ruined nation. The principle of national independence is, indeed, the key to the solution of the national problem.
The Korean nation's cause of reunification to rejoin the blood veins of the divided nation and achieve national cohesion is a matter of the Korean nation itself and a matter of the national sovereignty both in name and reality. The Korean nation can defend the country's peace and propel the cause of reunification only when it holds fast to the principle of national independence not allowing aggression and interference of any outsider and exercises its independent rights.
The principle of national independence is the indispensable prerequisite to building up the driving force of the nation.
The driving force of the country's reunification is none other than the whole Korean nation in the north, the south and overseas and its might is immediately the might of its unity.
The ideological banner for strengthening the unity of the internal patriotic forces for reunification is national independence. It is the mental source which helps display the inexhaustible strength of the Korean nation.
Under the obtaining situation in which the U.S. imperialists are past control in their criminal moves for aggression and war against the DPRK and their interference in Korea's reunification, it is the supreme task no one can shun to hold fast to the principle of national independence and fight in close unity under the banner of patriotism and national reunification.
