Press Conference Held at Russian Embassy

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- A press conference was held at the Russian embassy here Wednesday on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory of Russia in the Great Patriotic War. Present there were mediapersons here.
    Staff members of the Russian embassy were on hand.
    Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov in a speech said that the Soviet army and people displayed popular heroism and patriotism in the Great Patriotic War, dealing a heavy blow at the fascist German aggressors and honorably defending the country. He referred to the factor and significance of their victory in the war.
    He pointed to the celebrations to be held in Moscow to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory in the war.
    Medals commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory of Russia in the Great Patriotic War were awarded to Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, and anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters of Korea, he said, and went on: This is an expression of thanks to the fighters who waged a valiant struggle for the happiness of the people and proves the solid and traditional relations of friendship between the Russian and Korean peoples.
    Questions put by reporters were answered at the press conference.
    Prior to it, the participants went round pictures displayed on this occasion.

Technological Achievements Reported

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Three-revolution team members active in different domains of the national economy in the DPRK have successfully settled not a few scientific and technological issues arising in the nation's development of science and technology and the building of a great prosperous powerful nation. They have carried out many scientific and technological tasks in a little over four years. At least 1,800 technological innovation proposals have been highly appreciated.
    In this period 3,230 members of the three-revolution teams were awarded various certificates of science and technology and hundreds of others had the honor of receiving high state orders.

Signal Success in Tree Planting

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The project to turn the country into a thick woodland and greenery is making a successful progress under a long-term plan in the DPRK. Many successes have been made in tree planting during the nationwide spring land management campaign this year.
    According to data available, at least 1 billion trees were planted in more than 150,000 hectares of forests across the country as of the end of April.
    Spectacular successes in tree planting are being reported without let-up from northern mountainous areas.
    Meanwhile, more than 70 million trees were planted on either sides of railways, motorways and tourist roads during the campaign.

S. Korea's Policy of Opening Education Market Accused

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- At least 3,500 members of the All-People Educational Solidarity in south Korea, which groups 83 educational and public organizations including the "National Teachers Union", held a rally in Youido of Seoul on April 30, at which they accused the government of its unjust education policy, the south Korean MBC reported. The participants in the rally said that they could not repress resentment at the present government which has pursued the policy of opening the education market because it will bring education to collapse. They demanded the government drop it at once.

Motion on Tok Islet Passes through S. Korean NA

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The "Unification, Diplomacy and Trade Committee of the National Assembly" of south Korea adopted a motion on defending the dominium over Tok Islet on May 3, the south Korean KBS reported. The motion said south Korea strongly condemns Japan's claim to Tok Islet and distortion of history in textbooks as it made a premeditated and deliberate attempt at grabbing part of Korea's territory in a bid to recall the departed soul of imperialists, far from making an honest reflection and apology for its past history.
    It formally demanded that the Japanese government abolish at once the ordinance on instituting "the Day of Takeshima (Tok Islet)" that passed through the Shimane Prefectural Assembly of Japan and write off everything related to the islet contained in the distorted history textbooks.

Film Show Held on Constitutional Day of Poland

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The Korea-Poland Friendship Association arranged a film show at the Chollima House of Culture Wednesday on the occasion of the Constitutional Day of the Republic of Poland. Present on invitation were staff members of the Polish embassy here.
    President of the Central Bank Kim Wan Su who is chairman of the Korea-Poland Friendship Association, members of the association and working people in the city were on hand.
    The participants watched a Polish feature film "I Will Defend the Post."

Anti-U.S., Anti-War Joint Rally Held in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- An anti-U.S., anti-war rally was reportedly held at the plaza of Seoul Railway Station on April 30 under the co-sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity and the "National People's Solidarity" of south Korea. Kwon O Chang, permanent co-representative of the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, Ri Ho Song, chief for handling the situation of the All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek, and other speakers bitterly denounced the United States for working out "OPLAN 5029-05" fully revealing its attempt at a preemptive attack on the north and the commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet for openly blustering that it would hurl its forces into the north in case of special situation.
    The south Korea-U.S. "alliance" is one for imposing slavery upon the former and the U.S. is an enemy state, they noted, demanding the U.S. scrap at once all the war plans including "OPLAN 5029-05". National cooperation alone can clear the Korean Peninsula of the threat of war, they stressed.

RS on Solidness and Invincibility of Korean-style Socialism

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Thursday dedicates an article to 14th anniversary of leade Kim Jong Il's famous work "Our Socialism Centred on the Masses Shall Not Perish". The work scientifically proves the essential features of Korean-style socialism centred on the masses and its invincibility, advantages and vitality and inspires the people with the conviction of the victory of socialism.
    Reviewing the course of the triumphant advance of Korean-style socialism centred on the masses over the last ten years or more since the publication of the work, the author of the article says Korean-style socialism based on the Juche idea is an invincible socialism not wavering in whatever ordeals and difficulties.
    The solidness and invincibility of Korean-style socialism lie in that the whole party and all the people are united as one in mind around the headquarters of the revolution as firm as a rock, the article notes, and goes on:
    Our single-minded unity is close ideological and purposeful and organizational unity around the headquarters of the revolution and moral and obligatory unity based on love and trust. The Party and the leader believe in the people and all the people follow the Party and the leader in one mind and absolutely support them. Herein lies the eternal vitality of our single-minded unity.
    The benevolent policy of our Party is the fundamental source of the invincibility of the single-minded unity of the leader, the party and the masses.
    It is thanks to the noble popular policy of Kim Jong Il that unbreakable blood ties have been forged between the headquarters of the revolution and the people and, on its basis, relationship of comradely love and revolutionary sense of obligation has been established among all the members of society to turn the whole country into a large harmonious family.
    The close unity of our army and people around the headquarters of the revolution in ideology and will and in moral sense of obligation is the real picture of our harmonious whole and herein lies the source of the invincibility of Korean-style socialism.
    The solidness and invincibility of Korean-style socialism also lie in that it has the powerful military strength as its pillar and the popular masses regard socialism as their life and soul. Nothing can break the faith of the Korean people in socialism of our style centred on the popular masses.

Peace and Reunification Guaranteed by Anti-U.S. Struggle: RS

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Anyone who has the soul of the nation and burns with patriotism should turn out in the righteous anti-U.S. struggle at this historic moment when the Korean nation is standing at the fatal crossroads whether it suffers the holocaust of a nuclear war imposed by the U.S. imperialists or thwarts it and defends peace, whether it is forced to a permanent division by the U.S. or achieves reunification and whether the south Korean people are reduced to permanent slaves of outsiders or win sovereignty, urges Rodong Sinmun in an article today. Calling upon the Korean nation to wage a more dynamic anti-U.S. struggle on a new, higher stage and in do-or-die spirit, the author of the article says:
    The United States set it as its "ultimate goal" to "bring down the system" of the DPRK and is tenaciously clinging to the moves to stifle it, using both stick and carrot to attain this goal at any cost.
    The danger of a new war is steadily growing on the Korean Peninsula and a grave snag is being laid in the way of the inter-Korean relations and the reunification movement owing to the U.S. getting more persistent and malicious in its aggressive and separatist Korea policy going against the unanimous desire of the Korean nation and the trend of the times.
    If the present Gordian knot is to be cut in the way of the peace and reunification of the country and the way out for the nation be opened successfully, all the forces of the nation available must be channeled to the anti-U.S. struggle to decisively check and frustrate the anti-DPRK war moves of the U.S., the chief criminal in hindering peace and reunification.
    It is an indispensable national historic task for the south Korean people and all the fellow countrymen to turn out as one in the righteous anti-U.S. struggle also for putting a decisive end to the tragic history of the protracted colonial rule of outsiders over south Korea.
    There is no need to squeamish in the choice of means and methods or hesitate now that it has become crystal clearer that the U.S. is not only the very one responsible for the division of the Korean nation, but also the source of war bringing the holocaust of a nuclear war over the head of the whole nation, disturber of reunification, and the aggressor, dominator and looter who tramples upon the sovereignty, dignity and interests of the Korean nation.
    Only when the volcano of the struggle against the U.S. bent on doing harm to the Korean nation explodes all over south Korea can the way out for the nation be opened and can the desire of the south Korean people come true, the desire to build a new land free from outsiders where an independent life will bloom.

Tradition of Great National Unity

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Sixty-nine years have passed since President Kim Il Sung founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland on May 5, Juche 25 (1936). On this occasion the people and servicepersons of Korea are looking back on the priceless experience and exploits gained by the President in the efforts to achieve the great national unity. He put forward the idea of the great national unity and the line of a united front in the first period of his revolutionary activities and had strived hard to realize them.
    Basing himself on the Juche Idea, he expounded the issue of the nation from a new angle and advanced a unique idea of the great national unity and had successfully implemented it in the whole period of the struggle for national liberation, the building of a new country and national reunification, and thus set a great model in achieving the great national unity.
    Reflected in the programme of the ARF is the idea that all classes and social strata should give priority to the demand and interests common to the nation and firmly unite as one irrespective of differences in ideology, political view, religious belief, property and social standing for the purpose of achieving and defending the independence of the nation.
    The ARF was an anti-Japanese national united organization, the first of its kind in Korea. Its formation made it possible to rally the patriotic forces of workers, peasants and other strata and build up the driving force of revolution.
    It is entirely thanks to the wise guidance and energetic activities of the President that the Korean people found out a correct way for the liberation of the nation from the Japanese imperialist rule in line with the Ten-Point Programme of the ARF, defeated the Japanese imperialists and liberated the country with their own efforts, united close around him.
    He, on the basis of the brilliant success and rich experience gained in the efforts to closely unite broad sections of patriotic forces through the formation of the ARF, authored the "Ten-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country".
    The tradition of the great national unity established by the President has successfully been carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il.
    Today all the Koreans in the north, south and overseas are making strenuous efforts to achieve the independent reunification of the country, rallied in the idea of "by our nation itself" set forth by the June 15 North South Joint Declaration.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Observed

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Colorful activities to observe the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8) are being organized in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea so that all people may take an active part in the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement with a proper understanding of it. Min Pyong Gwan, secretary general of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, told KCNA that on this occasion it is planned to hold various functions including a briefing on Red Cross activities in Pyongyang.
    Introduced in the briefing Thursday are the activities of the DPRK Red Cross Society and the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, the fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement, international humanitarian law and so on, he added.
    Meanwhile, similar activities are also being held in all provincial (municipal), city (district) and county branches.
    The secretary general, touching on the cooperation between national Red Cross organizations and the international Red Cross organizations, emphasized: The DPRK Red Cross Society will in the future, too, make every possible effort to prevent misfortunes and sufferings of people, improve their health and welfare and promote friendship and solidarity among the world people in the basic principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.

Trade Forum Held

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- A trade forum was held on May 4 and 5 at Yanggakdo International Hotel here under the co-sponsorship of the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Trade and the UN Development Programme. Kim Myong Chol, general director of the Bureau of Cooperation for International Organizations, in an inaugural speech, said that the current forum would help improve foreign trade, enhance trading effect, understand methods of international standard trade and grasp the trend of trade development in Asia and other parts of the world.
    Abu Selim, UNDP resident representative a.i., in his speech noted that the forum offers a significant occasion in exchanging experience gained by trade experts of Korea, international organizations and different countries in practice. It is important to establish cooperative relations for developing trade and external economy, he said, adding:
    The UNDP will organize more dialogues and forums to strengthen cooperation and continue to cooperate with the international community at large including the DPRK. A congratulatory letter to the forum from the UNDP office was read out there.
    Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade Ri Myong San, speaking next, expressed thanks to the UNDP for having rendered positive cooperation to develop the trade in the DPRK, noting that the DPRK government has pursued an invariable policy to develop trade and economic relations with all other countries which are friendly towards the DPRK in the idea of independence, peace and friendship.
    He stressed that the DPRK would as ever boost foreign trade, raise the quality of highly demanded second and third processing products to the world's level by harnessing rich raw material resources, explore foreign markets and introduce advanced science and technology in a bid to steadily develop trading and economic relations with other countries of the world.
    Then followed discussions.
    Introduced at the forum were the trade policy and judicial system in the DPRK and its trading environment and conditions, the trend of international trade development and experience gained by different countries in trade. The forum discussed the issue of improving trading procedure and mode, co-relation between trade and investment and other technical matters.

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- A briefing on Red Cross activities was sponsored in Pyongyang by the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society Thursday on the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. Present there were officials of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, officials concerned and mediapersons.
    Also on hand were members of aid delegations of the International Committee of Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Symposium on Medical Science Held

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The 7th Pyongyang symposium on medical science of Koreans at home and abroad took place at the People's Palace of Culture on May 4 and 5. Addressing the symposium, Choe Chang Sik, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Medical Association, expressed hope that the symposium would help Koreans swap achievements and experience gained in the process of developing medical science so as to advance the nation's medical science and technology and contribute to its prosperity.
    Kim Il U, vice-chairman of the Medical Association of Koreans in Japan, and Kim Yun Bom, professor at Chicago, U.S., Medical University, made congratulatory speeches.
    They called on the Korean medical scientists in the north and the south and abroad to boost the ties among them and make a positive contribution to the development of the country's medical science and its reunification.
    In the speeches made at the symposium under such titles as "Role of naturally dying cells in the immune system", "Current tendency in hypertension treatment" and "Alveolar ridge expansion technique for tooth transplantation" Korean medical scientists from overseas referred to the therapy of various symptoms based on achievements made in the development of modern medical science and advanced science and technology and issues to be solved in the field.

     Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- Hoy se cumplen los 69 anos desde que el Presidente Kim Il Sung proclamara la fundacion de la Asociacion para la Restauracion de la Patria (ARP). Este dia, el pueblo coreano, los oficiales y soldados del Ejercito Popular de Corea recuerdan con gran evocacion las valiosas experiencias y hazanas logradas por el Presidente en aras de la gran unidad nacional.
    Desde el inicio de sus actividades revolucionarias, el lucho incansablemente por materializar la autoctona idea de la gran unidad nacional y la linea del frente unificado. A base de la idea Juche, aclaro de modo original el problema de la nacion y creo un brillante ejemplo de la gran unidad nacional al materializar la idea en esta materia en todo el trayecto de la historica lucha por restaurar la patria, construir una nueva patria y reunificar el pais.
    En mayo del 25 (1936) de la Era Juche, el Presidente proclamo a todo el mundo la fundacion de la ARP.
    Esta organizacion encarnaba en si la idea de gran unidad nacional consistente en que para defender y ejercer la soberania nacional, todas las clases y sectores deben unirse compactamente anteponiendo la demanda y los intereses comunes de la nacion y dejando a un lado las diferencias de ideas, ideales, afiliacion politica y creencia religiosa, la posesion o no de bienes y la posicion social.

    Gracias a la sabia direccion y dinamicas actividades del Presidente, el pueblo coreano conocio el rumbo de la lucha antijaponesa por la liberacion nacional y pudo unirse compactamente en torno de este, derrotar con sus propias fuerzas a los imperialistas japoneses y llevar a feliz termino la causa de liberacion nacional bajo la bandera revolucionaria del "Programa de Diez Puntos de la ARP".

     Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- El 8 de mayo es el Dia Mundial de la Cruz Roja y la Medialuna Roja.Con motivo de esta efemeride en Corea se organizan y realizan en diversas formas y metodos las labores para lograr que todas las personas participen activamente en el movimiento de la Cruz Roja y la Medialuna Roja con la correcta comprension de este particular. En una entrevista con un reportero de la Agencia Telegrafica Central de Corea, Min Pyong Gwan, secretario del Comite Central de la Asociacion de la Cruz Roja de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea dijo que en esta capital se realizaran diversas actividades incluyendo el "Encuentro de informacion de las actividades de la Cruz Roja con motivo del " y prosiguio:

     Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 14 aniversario de la publicacion de la obra clasica del Dirigente Kim Jong Il "Nuestro socialismo centrado en las masas populares es invencible", el diario Rodong Sinmun inserto en su numero del dia 5 un articulo individual que va como sigue: La obra argumenta cientificamente la caracteristica esencial, la invencibilidad, la superioridad y la vitalidad del socialismo coreano centrado en las masas populares e infunde a nuestro pueblo fe en la victoria de esta sociedad.
    Durante mas de 10 anos que datan de la publicacion de la obra, nuestro socialismo centrado en las masas populares avanzo por el camino de la victoria. Esta sociedad basada en la idea Juche es la invencible que no se deja vacilar ante cualesquier pruebas y dificultades.
    La solidez e invencibilidad de nuestro socialismo reside en que todo el partido y el pueblo estan unidos monoliticamente en torno a la Direccion de la Revolucion.
