Friendly Gathering Held at Vietnamese Embassy

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- A friendly gathering was arranged at the Vietnamese embassy here on April 28 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the complete liberation of South Vietnam and the unification of the country. Present on invitation were Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hyong Jun, officials concerned and representatives and staff members of foreign embassies here.
Vietnamese Ambassador Phan Trong Thai and embassy officials were on hand.
Speakers at the gathering noted that the Vietnamese people waged a heroic struggle under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and triumphantly concluded their anti-U.S. resistance for national salvation 30 years ago.
They expressed the conviction that the friendly relations between the DPRK and Vietnam, which were established during the joint struggle for independence and socialist cause against imperialism, would grow stronger in the future.
The participants watched a Vietnamese documentary "The War Victory in Spring 1975" and conversed with each other on developing relations among countries, deepening the friendship.

Anti-Japanese Campaign Held in Los Angeles

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- An anti-Japanese rally and demonstration reportedly took place in Los Angeles, the United States, on April 24 to check Japan's bid for a permanent membership of the UNSC and demand the settlement of its past. Participating in the campaign, co-sponsored by the Association of Koreans in Los Angeles and Chinese organizations, were more than 3,000 people, including members of human rights movement organizations of Filipino, Cambodian, Vietnamese and other Asians.
In a rally in front of the City Office they said that it would be wrong to allow Japan to take a permanent seat at the UNSC as it is justifying its history of aggression, far from making an apology and compensation for the past crimes.
They expressed anger at the Japanese government impudently insisting on its claim to territory of other countries while keeping visits to the "Yasukuni Shrine", an insult to victims.
After the rally the participants marched to the Japanese consulate-general, chanting such slogans as "Japan, stop distorting history at once!", "Japan must liquidate its past!", "No to Japan's bid for a permanent seat at the UNSC!" and "Down with stooges of Japan!" and singing anti-Japanese songs.
Earlier, a large-scale anti-Japanese demonstration was held in front of the building of the UN Headquarters in New York on April 22 to oppose Japan's attempt for a permanent membership of the UNSC.

Breakthrough in Anti-U.S. Struggle Called for

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- The Seoul District Federation of University Student Councils under the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils reportedly held a meeting of its central standing committee on April 20 and adopted a resolution on a general march for a massive turnout on "day of May 13 anti-U.S. action". The north's declaration of its access to nukes is an announcement to the world that the Korean nation has built up consummated political and military strength to stand against the United States and, for this reason, the U.S. has already lost its position of "the world's only holder of supremacy", the resolution said, and added:
The U.S., however, has not discarded its aggressive nature but is making a desperate bid to venture an open military pressure and isolation maneuver against the north, far from admitting the failure of its policy toward the north.
It called for concentrating all efforts on terminating the 60 year-long U.S. military occupation of south Korea and making this year the year of the withdrawal of the U.S. troops and for making a breakthrough in the anti-U.S. struggle this year by carrying the function of "day of May 13 anti-U.S. action" to a success by all means.

Russian Medals Awarded to Korean Anti-Japanese Fighters

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin sent Medals for Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War in Russia to Korean anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters Pak Song Chol, Kim Chol Man, Ri Ul Sol, Paek Hak Rim, Kim Ik Hyon, Ri Jong San, Kim Ryong Yon, Hwang Sun Hui, Kim Ok Sun, Pak Kyong Suk, Ri Yong Suk, Wang Ok Hwan, Ri Jong In, Jon Sun Hui, Ri Chi Ho, Pak Kyong Ok and Ko Ok Son. The awarding ceremony took place at the Russian embassy in Pyongyang Thursday. Present at the ceremony were some anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and officials concerned.
Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov and embassy officials were on hand.
After a congratulatory speech of the ambassador, the medals were handed to the anti-Japanese fighters at the ceremony.
Ri Jong San, chairman of the DPRK Committee of Anti-Imperialist Veterans, expressed thanks for this before a speech was made by Song Yong Su, vice-director of the History Institute of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
A reception was given at the embassy in honor of the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters who received the medals.

Japan's Arms Buildup under Fire

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in an article Friday notes that the Japanese militarists have openly revealed the militarist nature and entered the stage of carrying into practice the reinforcement of its aggression armed forces and preemptive attack, getting quite outspoken in advocating them when the situation has undergone a change in the international arena. The author of the article says:
The main point of the increase of the aggression forces by the Japanese militarists is to modernize them and arm them with long-range and up-to-date military hardware. Japan's military power has grown beyond comparison in the period of the current "mid-term arms buildup program" and, accordingly, Japan has joined the ranks of the world military powers in reality as well as in name.
While beefing up the strength of the "Self-Defence Forces," the Japanese reactionaries have flung open the door of their overseas military operations. In 1992 Japan enacted the "law on cooperation in the UN peace-keeping activities" and then brought into effect laws allowing military actions one after another in the 90s of the last century and in the new century, among them the "law on emergency in the surrounding areas" and the "law on coping with arms contingency," thus restoring the right to participate in a war and the right of belligerency. Now the SDF is running about like a headless fly, openly jumping into strife-torn and war zones under the cloak of "peace-keeping" and "international contribution."
Expanded to the extreme in military and economic respects, the militarist forces of Japan do not hesitate to commit provocations aimed at territorial expansion. Today the Japanese reactionaries are giving rise to confrontation with neighboring countries and deliberately rendering the situation strained in Northeast Asia over "territorial issues." This is their intentional and premeditated acts for reinvasion.
Here they make the Korean Peninsula as the first target of their attack.
One of the examples is their maneuvers to seize Tok Islet. The Japanese militarists blare that they are not afraid of a war with north Korea but want to attack the adversary before Tokyo turns into a sea of fire. This is little short of a declaration of war hinting that they will spark the flame any time to stage a comeback to Korea. Having made military preparations for the reinvasion of Korea for decades since the end of the Second World War, they are going to carry it into practice with the seizure of Tok Islet in the 21st century.
It is little different from the agitation of a war that the ruling quarters of Japan including the chief executive continue to visit the Yasukuni Shrine and distort the history textbooks in an effort to infuse militarist idea
into the younger generations and the Japanese people in general. Japan today has thrown away the veil of "pacifist state" and appeared on the scene as a dangerous aggressive state and war force bringing the dark clouds of reinvasion over the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia.

Fair Solution of Issue of "Comfort Women" for Imperial Japanese Army Urged

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- Delegates of non-governmental organizations of different countries and regions demanded a fair solution of the issue of "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army in the debate on agenda item 12 (women's human rights) at the 61st meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights from April 6 to 8, The delegate of the Japan Human Rights Committee of Workers said Japan set up the "comfort women" system for the imperial Japanese army on the Korean Peninsula and other places where it stationed its forces decades ago and committed systematic rape of women, adding that the characteristics of such act were that it was an official policy of the Japanese government.
The delegate of the International Educational Development noted that Japan has not compensated a farthing while Germany is making compensation to the victims to the Second World War. No country can become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, if it fails to compensate for its crimes during the war, he added.
The delegate of the Asia-Japanese Women's Resource Centre said the Japanese government, which denies its legal responsibility for the crimes related to the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army, is having its eyes on a seat of permanent member of the UNSC while failing to take any practical step to restore justice for the surviving victims.
The delegate of the Human Rights Association of Koreans in Japan strongly demanded the Japanese government take an urgent step to reinstate the honor of the "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army.
The delegate of the south Korean Federation of Women's Associations accused Japan of attempting to evade its legal responsibility for the sex slavery system for the imperial Japanese army and held that compensation to the surviving victims of sex slavery must be made by the Japanese government, not in the form of "charity fund" out of a non-governmental fund.
Delegates of other non-governmental organizations from different countries and regions demanded that the Japanese government and parties concerned sincerely reflect on themselves and make an apology and compensation, holding themselves fully accountable for the "comfort women" issue in keeping with the trend of the times.
Meanwhile, delegates of the International Solidarity Council for Demanding the Settlement of the Past by Japan on April 7 visited the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and handed over to the high commissioner a collection of signatures put by more than 500,000 people of all social strata in many countries and regions against Japan's bid for the permanent membership of the UNSC.

Book on Kim Il Sung's Revolutionary History Off Press

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House has recently brought out "Revolutionary History of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung", a book consummating the brilliant revolutionary life of the peerlessly great man. The book newly compiled by the History Institute of the WPK Central Committee consists of 101 sections of 12 chapters, in which the revolutionary history and undying exploits of President Kim Il Sung are edited in the order of his revolutionary life and the historical periods of his revolutionary activities.
From Chapter One to Chapter Four it records his brilliant revolutionary history ranging from April Juche 1 (1912) to August Juche 34 (1945), in which he was born, spent his childhood, pioneered the revolutionary cause of Juche with arms under the banner of Juche, the banner of Songun, led the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle to victory with the force of arms and thus accomplished the historic cause of national liberation.
From Chapter Five to Chapter Eight it covers the immortal history between August Juche 34 (1945) and December Juche 49 (1960), in which he led to victory the construction of a new country and the Fatherland Liberation War, fulfilled the historical tasks for postwar rehabilitation and construction and the building of socialist foundation and established the people-centered socialist system of Korean style.
From Chapter 9 to Chapter 12 it deals with his revolutionary feats in the period between January Juche 50 (1961) and July Juche 83 (1994) in energetically organizing and leading socialist construction of different stages and thus building up a powerful socialist country of independence, self-reliance and self-defence and demonstrating its dignity and might to the world.
In relevant chapters the book recounts the undying exploits he performed to put an end to the tragedy of national division and achieve the country's reunification and the world revolutionary cause.
In its last part the book says that the President will always be with the Korean people and live an eternal life for the great revolutionary exploits he performed for history and humankind and thanks to leader Kim Jong Il's boundless loyalty and noble virtue and sense of duty.
The book contains new materials of his revolutionary history, including his energetic support, not only political and ideological but also military, to the Chinese people's revolutionary struggle and to Vietnam, Cuba, Egypt, Syria and other countries making revolution, right after the liberation of Korea and in different periods afterwards.

Rodong Sinmun on Mental Pillar of Korean Army and People

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- It is the inexorable law governing human life in the society of the DPRK to follow leader Kim Jong Il as any seed spreads branches and blooms towards the sun anywhere, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a signed article. The Korean army and people have advanced the socialist cause of Juche with their own faith, idea and mode of politics against all sorts of dominationism including imperialism. They are further hardening the might of their single-minded unity, the pure mental power of upholding their leader with one mind and one purpose, the article notes, and says:
They have regarded the unshakable trust in their leader as a motto of their life on the basis of scientific understanding of the greatness of the headquarters of revolution and their experiences of life and are firmly determined to uphold him to the last. It is their revolutionary view of life.
Their absolute trust in Kim Jong Il as their mental mainstay remains intense loyalty to him that is invariable in peacetime or in grim days.
As the politics of the Workers' Party of Korea for the people is great, their reverence for the headquarters of revolution is very deep and absolute.
The epic of love for the people created by President Kim Il Sung in the DPRK has been unremittingly continued by Kim Jong Il. The army and people of the DPRK see in his personality the cream of the most righteous and attractive politics for the people.
Kim Jong Il is a great servant and an invincible brilliant commander as he has devoted his all to the people and defended the destiny of the socialist fatherland and the Korean nation.
Our stand is that enemy may challenge if he wants to do so. The Songun politics of Kim Jong Il has trained all the people to be such men strong in faith and pluck and turned the DPRK into an impregnable fortress.
We feel reassured as long as we are guided by him. Nothing can break this mental mainstay, our pride and life.
The future of a great prosperous powerful nation is coming nearer thanks to the army and people who are fully displaying their creative zeal, greatly attracted by his personality.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Inheriting Spirit of Korean Nation

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- It is of weighty importance in the struggle for terminating the humiliating history of subordination and realizing the independent reunification to preserve the spirit of the Korean nation, source of its life and might, Rodong Sinmun today says in a by-lined article. Only when this spirit, which is rooted in Tangun's Korea and serves as an engine for the development of the national history, is properly succeeded, is it possible for the Korean nation to firmly maintain the independent principle in the efforts for shaping out its destiny and achieve the reunification and prosperity of the country by its united efforts, the article says, and goes on: To well preserve and give full play to the national spirit, an embodiment of the nation's history of 5,000 years and its superiority, is urgently needed to put an end to the foreign domination, retake the national sovereignty and achieve the national cohesion and reunification.
The Korean nation should reject the foreign forces and develop and apply the national spirit of increasing the awareness of national independence so as to defend its territory, sovereignty and character from ceaseless aggression moves of the outsiders and ensure its independent development.
To establish the national spirit is a demand of the present situation in which the aggressive acts of the foreign forces and the treacherous actions of their followers are getting evermore pronounced and serious.
The United States is these days cooking up new pro-American conservative bodies called "Citizen Solidarity for Freedom" and "Shout of People" and the like in south Korea. This is part of the U.S. moves to disintegrate the south Korean society and benumb the people's national consciousness, that is, a policy of exterminating the Korean nation.
The Japanese reactionaries, too, are stepping up their moves for revival of militarism and reinvasion. They persistently distort history in textbooks and seek to grab Tok Islet, instead of apologizing and compensating for the past crimes Japan committed during its aggression of Korea.
Only when the Koreans invariably preserve the national spirit and fully display it, can the spirit of independence prevail all over the country and can they accelerate the cause of independent reunification, shattering the outsiders' aggressive moves by their concerted efforts.
All the Koreans should reject the anti-national cooperation with foreign forces and realize cooperation for national independence, cooperation for peace against war and cooperation for reunification and patriotism to strikingly show how strong and mighty the spirit of the nation aspiring after independence against the outsiders is.

KCNA Slams Japan's Invariable Wild Ambition for Reinvasion

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- It was disclosed recently that in 1994 the Japan Defence Agency conducted a mock preemptive strike exercise under the simulated conditions of "countering the missile attack" of the DPRK. The exercise required fighters of the Air "Self-Defence Force" to fly close to their destination at super-high altitude, supported by the U.S. forces in gathering information about the "enemy" and "neutralizing its ground radars," before "attacking its missile bases" at a low altitude and flying back at super-high altitude.
It also envisaged the event in which fighters ran out of fuel. In this case they were required to get an in-flight refueling from the U.S. forces or land on the base of the U.S. forces present in south Korea. The event also called on a pilot to parachute from his plane to the sea to be rescued by a warship of the "Self-Defence Forces".
Commenting on the mock exercise, the military officers concerned were reported to have concluded that "there was no problem from the military point of view."
This goes to irrefutably prove that the Japanese reactionaries' theory of "preemptive strike" under the pretext of the DPRK's "missile threat" has long been pushed forward. As the DPRK has clarified more than once, its armed forces for self-defence including missiles are means for just self-defence as they are aimed at protecting the national sovereignty and security from the evermore undisguised moves of the hostile forces to stifle it.
It made it clear that its armed forces will never be a threat to Japan as long as the latter refrains from hostile acts against the former, respecting its sovereignty. The mock preemptive strike exercise conducted by Japan against the DPRK already long ago indicates what its loudmouthed "threat of missiles" from the DPRK is after.
Lurking behind it is a sinister plot of the Japanese reactionaries to accelerate its militarization in a bid to realize its wild ambition for staging a comeback to Korea and the rest of Asia at any cost, backed by the U.S.
As was the case with the previous exercises, this mock operation drill presupposed "strong support from the U.S."
This was the militarist way of thinking and style of action peculiar to the Japanese reactionaries steeped in pro-Americanism to the marrow of their bones.
Through its active involvement in the establishment of the U.S. missile defence system (MD) Japan seeks to secure an "unchallenged position" as a military giant fully capable of applying the U.S. doctrine of "preemptive strike."
It has stepped up a joint research for developing the MD with the U.S. since 1999 as part of its move. It had equipped four Aegis warships of the Maritime "Self-Defence Force" with "Standard-3" type missiles and fitted 27 launching pads of the Air "Self-Defence Force" with "PAC-2" type missiles by 2003.
In terms of missile strike and interceptor Japan is the only country that possesses up-to-date Aegis warships except the U.S.
Japan is the fifth largest military power in the world. Having secured war means more huge both in quality and quantity than in the "Cold War" period, Japan has a military force and system capable of undertaking a preemptive strike at the DPRK.
Meanwhile, the Japanese reactionaries are free to let loose the war outcries that Japan may fight a war against north Korea and it should make a preemptive strike at north Korea even with the U.S. support before Japan is engulfed in a sea of fire due to the north Korean missile strike.
All facts go to prove that Japan is in the process of translating the scenario of preemptive strike at the DPRK, pursuant to the "Bush doctrine" which formally calls for a preemptive strike after the "Sept. 11 incident" and the possibility of the SDF's automatic involvement in the operation into a reality. It is the unanimous comment of the international community at present that the Japanese reactionaries may follow in the footsteps of the U.S., which had mounted a preemptive attack on Iraq even in the absence of the imminent threat, as they believe that "the principle of exclusive defence" has long been reduced to a dead one.
Japan was defeated in the Pacific War it launched in a bid to become "the leader of Asia" and it is the only country in the world which has not shaken off the ill-fame of an "enemy state" though 60 years have passed since its defeat.
Should Japan keep running wild in pursuance of the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK, oblivious of its historical lesson, it will have to pay a high price for this.
The army and people of the DPRK will never tolerate the Japanese reactionaries' attempt at "preemptive attack" but mobilize all means to finally settle accounts with them.
