During the celebration period Kim Jong Il received floral baskets and gifts from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the king of Cambodia, the president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic who is chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the president of the Republic of Guinea, the leader of the Great September First Revolution of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the Indonesian president and his wife, the head of the Palestinian National Authority who is chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the prime minister of the Thai government, the Cuban minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Party for Peace and Unity of Russia and many other heads of states, governments and political parties, personages of diplomatic and military circles, political parties and organizations and figures from all walks of life.
Celebration events took place in capitals and provincial cities of over 100 countries for 30 odd days.
At least 340 celebration functions including rallies, seminars and lectures were held by ruling and progressive parties and under the co-sponsorship of organizations for the study of the Juche idea and organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people.
Present at the functions were over 180 ruling and progressive parties, groups and organizations for the study of the Juche idea, high-ranking officials of governments, noted figures of various circles and broad masses.
Meanwhile, various media including at least 1000 organs of governments and political parties, radio and TV broadcasting services carried images of Kim Jong Il and special write-ups or aired special programs on the occasion of the Feb. fete.
The speeches made at those functions and the special write-ups and special programs of media fully reflected the world progressive people's deep reverence and high praises of Kim Jong Il as a great man.

Pro-Japanese Sycophantic and Traitorous Remarks Flailed

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- Han Sung Jo, co-representative of the Free Citizens Solidarity of south Korea, in a recent article contributed to Seiron, a magazine of the right-wing conservatives of Japan, let loose a string of balderdash that the Koreans were fortunate enough to be under the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and one should consider it as a blessing rather than feeling resentful at it and should thank the Japanese for it and that it facilitated the growth and development of south Korea. Against the backdrop of the mounting public criticism of these reckless remarks, military critic Ji Man Won, Chief Editor of Wolgan Joson Jo Kap Je ill-famed as a reactionary conservative hack writer, Professor of Seoul National University Ri Yong Mun and other riffraffs told a spate of similar rubbish one after another.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday says in a signed commentary carried in this regard:
The reckless remarks made by these pro-Japanese traitors are an unbearable insult and unpardonable challenge to all the Koreans who are all out in the struggle to force Japan to pay for all the crimes perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists in the past. This is the most shameful act of treachery against the nation.
The Japanese right-wing reactionaries and the pro-Japanese traitorous forces of south Korea have so far made not a few nonsensical remarks distorting the history of sufferings imposed by the Japanese imperialists upon the Korean nation. But the outcries made by the group of traitors such as Han Sung Jo this time are something unprecedented. They might have been bribed by the Japanese reactionaries in a bid to calm down the anti-Japanese sentiment of the Koreans that has mounted higher than ever before since the declassification of documents related to the south Korea-Japan agreement, etc.
The Japanese reactionaries would be well advised to stop such a base ruse, clearly understanding that their foolish attempt to use such human rubbish and living dead as Han Sung Jo for justifying their crime-woven past would only trigger off bitterer anti-Japanese resentment among the Koreans.
The south Korean people should wage a more dynamic struggle against the outside forces in order to sternly punish the pro-Japanese, pro-U.S. sycophantic traitors selling the dignity and interests of the nation to them and protect the dignity and sovereignty of the nation.

Cancellation of Plan for North-Targeted War Exercises Demanded

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" announced that it would stage RSOI and Foal Eagle joint military exercises from March 19 to 25. Rodong Sinmun Thursday observes in a signed commentary in this regard: The U.S.-projected large-scale saber rattling is obviously a grave military threat and provocation against the DPRK and a dangerous test war aimed at stifling it by force of arms.
The aim sought by the U.S. through these war drills is to revive the suspended Team Spirit joint military exercises and examine and round off the overall preparations for a nuclear attack on the DPRK.
What should not be overlooked is the fact that the U.S. is set to stage those large-scale war maneuvers against the DPRK while extremely aggravating the DPRK-U.S. nuclear stand-off. The Bush forces pretended to be interested in the settlement of the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. while talking about an early resumption of the six-party talks. They, however, slandered the DPRK as an "outpost of tyranny" at the outset of the year and have since deliberately bedeviled the DPRK-U.S. relations, keeping the door of the six-party talks closed. The U.S. projected joint war exercises clearly tell what their real intention is. Their talk about "peaceful settlement" of the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. is no more than hypocrisy as their real aim is to stifle the DPRK by force of arms, come what may.
If the U.S. ignites a nuclear war, the DPRK will take a merciless counter-action with powerful means and remove all the sources of aggression and war from the Korean Peninsula.
The U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces would be well advised to cancel at once their plan for north-targeted war exercises which would bring only a disgraceful destruction to them.

Statement and Memorandum of DPRK Foreign Ministry Supported in Denmark

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association in a statement on March 4 voiced full support to the Feb. 10 statement and the Mar. 2 memorandum of the DPRK Foreign Ministry. The statement denounced the Bush administration for intensifying war moves and military exercises against the DPRK and manipulations to isolate and stifle it after branding it as part of "axis of evil" and "outpost of tyranny."
The Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association pays attention to the fact that the situation of the Korean Peninsula is being carried into the extreme pitch of strain by the U.S. moves to provoke a new war, the statement said, strongly demanding that the U.S. stop its interference in the domestic issue of Korea and withdraw its forces and all its military equipment from south Korea.

Treachery of Pro-U.S. Conservative Forces Denounced

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification on March 4 issued a statement titled "We condemn the pro-U.S. ultra-right conservative forces tarnishing the spirit of the March First Popular Uprising and resorting to acts against the nation and reunification". The statement called upon the youth and students to ostracize once and for good these forces standing in the way of the nation's reunification and greet a new motherland independent and reunified.
It denounced these forces for throwing a wet blanket over the heightened fervor of the people to make this year the year of independent reunification of the nation without fail, greeting the 86th anniversary of the popular uprising. Recalling that the conservative forces on March 1 opened the so-called "People's Rally", at which they committed the criminal act of impairing the March first spirit and laying again a chill on the people's ardent desire for independent reunification, while chanting "pro-U.S. and anti-north slogan", the statement said: They are traitors to the nation and anti-reunification forces which tail behind the U.S. and seek their own personal end, paying no heed to independence and reunification.
The true inheritance of the March first spirit is to wage an active practical fight to achieve an independent reunification under the uplifted banner of three forms of cooperation -- cooperation for national independence, cooperation for peace against war and cooperation for reunification and patriotism -- by pooling the efforts of the nation.

February Issue of "Juche Idea" Published in Japan

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The National Liaison Council of the Japan Society for the Study of Kim Jong Il's Works brought out the February issue of its organ "Juche Idea". On its first, fourth and fifth pages, the paper gives photo-illustrated accounts of a "new spring gathering" on the Juche idea and Japan-DPRK friendship held in Osaka.
Also carried in the paper is photo-accompanied news that the Tokushima Prefectural Citizen's Society for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea held a meeting to hear a report about a visit to the DPRK under the title "Our Task Is to Establish Normal Diplomatic Relations between Japan and the DPRK".
It conveys news that Kenichi Ogami, secretary general of the International Institute of Juche Idea, and his company visited the DPRK from Jan. 8, and that the institute held a memorial symposium in Tokyo and deals with the content of Chapter 7 of "Biography of Kim Jong Il" Vol. 1.
The paper carries an article introducing "Juche Idea," the organ of the National Liaison Council of the Japan Society for the Study of Kim Jong Il's Works.

U.S.-Advertised "Freedom and Democracy" Debunked

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The "commitment to the diffusion of freedom and democracy" advertised by the U.S. imperialists is a slogan of aggression and interference to gratify their ambition for world supremacy, says Rodong Sinmun in an article today. The author of the article continues:
This "commitment" is a link in the whole chain of their "globalization" maneuvers and its immediate target is to demolish the political systems of the anti-U.S. independent countries and nations by sending the U.S.-style wind into them. What the U.S. seeks in this is to poke its nose deep into the internal affairs not only of the countries and nations falling out of its favor but of all other countries and nations of the world as well and reorganize their political systems on the U.S. pattern.
The "commitment" is intended to realize its global domination by establishing a neocolonial international order, more crafty and veiled. It is the old game of the U.S. imperialists to invade other countries by surprise and get their hand on their affairs while beating the drum of "freedom" and "democracy".
What the U.S. means by "diffusion of freedom and democracy" is well illustrated by its acts in turning Iraq into an abattoir of people and a barren land of human rights where killing and human rights abuses are rife.
This clearly reveals the real nature of what it calls "diffusion of freedom and democracy". It behaves like the "emperor" of the world and thinks it is natural for all the members of the international community to live by its political mode.
It is south Korea which is subject to the crudest aggression and interference of the U.S. imperialists under the cloak of "freedom" and "democracy". They have constantly stepped up their moves for a permanent division of Korea and provocation of another war for long six decades since they landed in south Korea.
The U.S. "commitment to the diffusion of freedom and democracy" is an offspring of its crisis and it is resorting to a more crafty and vicious method to wriggle itself out of it.
The world people look through the sly ruse of the U.S. in peddling the "commitment" and do not allow themselves to be duped by it. With no deceptive and hypocritical means and method can it conceal its aggressive and dominationist colors, concludes the article.

New System of Controlling Temperature in Buildings Developed in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) - The Paektusan Institute of Architecture of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has developed a new system of ensuring a good environmental temperature inside buildings. Prof. and Dr. Wi Sok Ryong, who led the development team, told KCNA that it is a method of conditioning air with the environmental temperature (the average temperature of the air and the radiant temperature of interior walls) as the standard. It is far superior to the existing method.
It provides 25 degrees C in summer and 22 degrees C in winter, the most proper temperature stipulated by the ISO in all rooms. With this system, the user can control the temperature as he wishes.
This system is based on the development of environmental thermometer, computerized air-conditioner providing needed environmental temperature and the measuring method of heat in buildings.
The heat measuring method makes it possible to provide the most proper temperature with even an air-conditioning facility the capacity of which is 30 to 40 percent less than the existing one.

Measures for Protecting Rare Animals Taken in DPRK

Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has directed great efforts to protecting and increasing animals which are rare and in danger of becoming extinct. In recent years the government has taken various measures to reset reserves in the country and set up new reserves for the animals in danger of extinction.
Good conditions have been provided so as to protect and propagate some 200 species of rare animals including Korean tiger, sable, deer, moose, bear, Tadorna cristata, white-bellied black woodpecker, Eumeces coreensis, Salamandrella keyserlingii and Salvelinus malma m. chonjiensis.
Among the new ones is the natural reserve of Mt. Kwanmo (2,540 meters high above the sea level) in the northeastern part of the country for such rare animals living in the northern area as the Korean tiger, bear, goral and sable.
Researchers of the Central Zoo have made many achievements in the scientific research for proliferation of animals outside the habitats.
Typical of the animals are Korean tiger, bear and Grus japonensis.
The government has also taken concrete measures for protecting and propagating crane and spoonbill, each accounting for about 1,000 in East Asia.
All the good habitats on the way of the migratory birds have been set up as their reserves.
Deep attention has been paid to the proliferation of new ecological species of animals. Typical of them is Salvelinus malma m. chonjiensis.
Ichthyologists of the country took fries of char to Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu from rivers to adapt them to the climatic and hydrological conditions and ecological environment of the lake and thus bred a new species of char.
The new one grows as big as over 85 centimeters, far larger than other species of char. It inhabits in the highest place (2,200 meters above the sea level) in the southern tip of the Eurasian continent.
A deep-going study is being conducted into Salvelinus malma m. chonjiensis as fish protected in the international biosphere reserves.
