More Provincial Rallies Held

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Mass rallies were held in North Phyongan, North Hwanghae and North Hamgyong Provinces on Feb. 28 to vow to thoroughly implement the tasks set forth in the appeal to all the servicepersons and people adopted at the meeting for the general march of the Songun revolution. At the rallies the appeal was read out by senior officials of the provinces to be followed by speeches.
Speakers called upon all the officials and other working people to attain without fail the goals of the general march they had vowed to achieve before the Workers' Party of Korea this year in hearty response to the appeal of the meeting, noting that the general march of the Songun revolution is one to defend the headquarters of the revolution politically and ideologically with their lives.
They underscored the need to focus all efforts on the farming this year, provide necessary manpower, equipment and materials to the agricultural field on a priority basis and improve the guidance and management of the agricultural production. They also appealed to the officials and other working people in the agricultural field to fully apply Juche method of farming and work hard to thoroughly implement the Party's policies for the agricultural revolution including the policy of bringing about a signal turn in the seed improvement and the policy of cultivating two crops a year.
They called on those in the field of local industries to make the best use of all possibilities to reenergize the production and, at the same time, concentrate efforts on the projects helpful to the improvement of the standard of people's living and complete them earlier than scheduled.
All the Party members and other working people should perform feats in the general charge to greet the 60th anniversaries of the WPK and the liberation of the country in hearty response to the appeal of the meeting and thus contribute to glorifying this significant year as the most fruitful and thriving year, they stressed.

U.S. Hostile Policy towards DPRK under Fire

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The Ecuadorian Committee for Supporting Korea's Independent and Peaceful Reunification and the Canar Provincial Institute for Friendship and Solidarity with the DPRK of Ecuador issued a joint statement on Feb. 13 in support of the statement of the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK dated Feb. 10. The British Society for Friendship with the DPRK and the British Branch of the Association for Friendship with the Korean People released a similar joint statement on Feb. 20. Recalling that the U.S. demanded the DPRK scrap its nuclear program first and disarm itself after openly declaring it as a policy to conduct hostile acts against the DPRK and listing it as a target of its preemptive nuclear attack, the joint statements dismissed this as an unreasonable brigandish demand.
The statements continued: The U.S. is asserting that the DPRK should come out to the six-party talks, while pursuing its aim to stifle socialist Korea. This is nothing but a trick to mislead world public opinion. The U.S. should eliminate its nukes before urging the DPRK to dismantle its nuclear program and talking about the resumption of the six-party talks and abandon its hostile policy aimed to topple the system in the DPRK.
The DPRK was entirely just when it decided to suspend its participation in the six-party talks on the nuclear issue for an indefinite period as it is hard to expect any positive results from them due to the vicious hostile policy of the Bush clique.
The nuclear issue much touted by media of imperialist countries is an invention of the U.S. imperialists and it is no more than leverage to stifle the DPRK by force of arms and infringe upon its sovereignty.
In the meantime, Secretary of the Mfumalanga Provincial Committee of the South African Communist Party Juda Tsootetsi who is chairman of the South African Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People also published a similar statement on Feb. 15.

Over 190 Cases of U.S. Aerial Espionage Committed in February

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists committed more than 190 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK in February, according to a military source. Strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes with various missions were involved in the espionage. Over 40 cases of espionage were perpetrated by U-2, RC-135, E-3 and EP-3.
A U-2 took off a U.S. air force base in south Korea at about 11:20 on Feb. 28 and flew for hours in the sky above Tokjok Islet, Phochon and Sokcho to spy on the strategic targets of the DPRK.
The U.S. imperialists sent 10 tactical reconnaissance planes on Feb. 2, 9 on Feb. 24 and 8 on Feb.23 and 25 each to spy on forefront and coastal areas of the DPRK.
The U.S. imperialist warhawks have thus perpetrated ceaseless aerial espionage to invade the north, talking a lot about a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue. This goes to prove that their ambition to stifle the DPRK by force of arms remains unchanged.

U.S. Forces' Destruction of Historic and Cultural Remains and Environmental Pollution

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Bureau for Direction of Cultural Preservation of the DPRK released a statement on Feb. 28 denouncing the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces present in south Korea for having perpetrated the thrice-cursed outrages of reducing its land to a wasteland and vandalizing precious historic relics and cultural treasures. They built military bases in historic sites including the area of the Changdok Royal Palace registered as a world cultural heritage and have since seriously destroyed them and polluted their environment, the statement noted, and continued:
The U.S. is a heinous aggressor as it sent ships for invasion of Korea already more than a hundred and scores of years ago, though it had never made eyes at the former, and looted historic relics of the Korean nation by exhuming tombs and brutally killed Koreans.
The people from all walks of life in south Korea should rise up as one in the anti-U.S. resistance to force the U.S. imperialist aggressors to withdraw from south Korea and totally dismantle their military bases under the banner of national independence, peace against war and reunification and patriotism, well aware that it is impossible to protect the dignity, independence and destiny of the nation as long as the U.S. forces stay in south Korea.

Organizations of Koreans in Japan Demand Abolition of NSL

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The Federation of South Koreans in Japan for Democracy and Unification, the South Korean Youth League in Japan, the Association of Democratic South Korean Women in Japan and the Council of South Korean Students in Japan for National Unification made public a joint statement entitled "Repeal National Security Law at Extraordinary National Assembly" on February 19. The period of the extraordinary National Assembly is nearing its close but the clearance of the bills for reform still remains at a standstill, the statement said, stressing: The bills for reform should be cleared at the current extraordinary National Assembly and the "National Security Law," a most evil law hampering democracy and human rights and perpetuating division, should be completely abrogated.
The abolition of the evil law is an urgent task for the Koreans in Japan, too, the statement pointed out, adding that peace in the Korean Peninsula cannot be ensured under the NSL as it designates fellow countrymen as "an enemy" and activities for national reconciliation and cooperation as "enemy-benefiting actions".
Extending support and solidarity to the compatriots who have entered a candlelight sit-in strike for the adoption of the bills for reform in Seoul and other different parts of south Korea from the outset of the year, the statement emphasized that the compatriots in Japan, too, would positively struggle for the abolition of the evil law.

Japan's Territorial Claim to Tok Islet Refuted

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Japanese Ambassador in Seoul Takano at a recent press interview asserted that Tok Islet belongs to Japan. Earlier, a draft act on instituting Feb. 22 as "Day of Tok Islet" was submitted to the Shimane Prefectural Assembly of Japan. Commenting on this, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Tuesday says:
This is a folly and disgraceful behavior that clearly disclose under the world eyes the brigandish nature and shameless greed of the Japanese reactionaries urged by ambition for territorial expansion and intention to stage a comeback to Korea by claiming the land of other country in a far-fetched manner out of gangster-like mode of thinking.
Tok Islet is an inalienable territory belonging to Korea from historical, geographical and international legal points of view, the analyst says, proving the nonsensical and untenable nature of the territorial claim of the Japanese reactionaries to the islet on the basis of new historical materials unearthed of late.
    The commentary goes on:
The Japanese reactionaries must know that Tok Islet is clearly designated as a territory of Korea even in maps made by Japanese. Their territorial claim to the islet can be made only by gangsters buoyed by ambition for territorial expansion. By occupying the islet the Japanese reactionaries seek to clear the way for invading Korea again.
Their intention to put the islet under their control is the most foolish dream of plucking the sun in the sky. They would be well advised to discard such infeasible and baleful dream.

Anniversary of March First Popular Uprising Observed

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Papers here Tuesday dedicate editorials to the 86th anniversary of the March First Popular Uprising. The popular uprising was a patriotic struggle through which the Korean people fully proved that they were a people strong in the spirit of independence as they did not want to live as slaves for others and a people with a will not to fear any sacrifices for the dignity and sovereignty of the nation and ardent patriotism.
Rodong Sinmun says: The Korean people, who had fully demonstrated their ardent patriotism and steadfast will to fight against Japan in the uprising, waged the heroic anti-Japanese war under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, freeing the country from the yoke of the Japanese imperialists and achieving its historic liberation.
The Korean nation is facing the task to put an end to foreign domination and interference, reunify the divided country and establish national sovereignty throughout it.
The U.S. is barring Koreans from achieving reconciliation and unity to realize the national reunification, displeased with their march to attain them. It is working hard to impose economic blockade upon the DPRK and stifle it militarily under the pretext of nuclear issue. The Japanese reactionaries are dreaming of staging comeback to Korea and laying hurdles in the way of its reunification and independent development, availing themselves of the U.S. imperialists' moves to stifle the DPRK.
Outsiders' domination and interference and their moves for aggression and war are main threats to the destiny of the Korean nation and stumbling blocks lying in the way of its unity and reunification and a main source of hamstringing the accomplishment of the cause of national independence.
It is necessary to stage a strenuous nationwide struggle to get the U.S. forces withdrawn from south Korea and put an end to the U.S. interference in the internal affairs of the Korean nation.
It is essential to decisively frustrate Japan's moves to stage comeback to Korea. Japan still remains the sworn enemy of the Korean nation.
All the Koreans should foil Japan's ambition to reinvade Korea with a strong will to force it to settle the crimes it has committed for the last one century and give vent to the towering grudge of the Korean people without fail this year, 100 years after the "Ulsa Five-point Treaty" was fabricated by the Japanese imperialists in a brigandish manner.
All the fellow countrymen should turn out as one to realize cooperation for national independence, cooperation for peace against war and cooperation for reunification and patriotism, bearing deep in mind that it is vital for the Koreans to achieve those three forms of cooperation and thus meet the challenge of foreign aggressor forces and advance the cause of independent reunification with their might.
Minju Joson says that no matter how desperately the anti-DPRK, anti-reunification forces at home and abroad work, they can never bar the Korean people from building a great prosperous powerful reunified nation.

U.S. Policy of Occupation of South Korea under Fire

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists' occupation of south Korea is an offspring of the aggressive Asia strategy of the United States. It is an outrageous infringement upon sovereignty trampling underfoot the demand and desire of the entire Korean nation for national independence and sovereignty and is the biggest crime in converting south Korea into a dark land of fascism and blocking the reunification and independent development of the Korean nation.
Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article today, which goes on:
The occupation policy is a colonial policy that has reduced south Korea to their complete colony and the people there to slaves, a fascist policy that tramples upon the desire and demand of the south Koreans for justice and progress, human rights and democracy and also an aggressive policy of vices to keep Korea forever as a foothold for the realization of their strategic interests, going against the desire of the Korean nation for a unified development and prosperity of the country.
The U.S. imperialists over the last six decades have worked maliciously to suppress and obliterate the struggle of the Korean nation for the reunification of the country.
Whenever a favorable atmosphere was created for reconciliation between the north and the south and the reunification of the country, the U.S. deliberately fostered north-south confrontation and increased the danger of war, persisting in maneuvers against the DPRK and the reunification of Korea.
It was owing to the U.S. imperialists that the July 4 joint statement agreed upon between the north and the south and declared to the world failed to pay off and the north-south joint declaration on denuclearization ended in a dead letter.
It has become crystal clear that the U.S imperialists, displeased with the June 15 joint declaration in which the two parts of Korea promised to resolve the reunification issue by united efforts, have hindered its implementation in every step. Urged by the heinous intention to provoke a nuclear war against the DPRK, the U.S. even carried out an exercise of dropping mock nuclear warheads in its military base in south Korea. This makes it easy to guess where lies the true purpose of the U.S. policy of occupation of south Korea.
All the Koreans in the north, the south and overseas should turn out in the nationwide anti-U.S. struggle for ending its policy of occupation of south Korea with the might of the three forms of cooperation -- cooperation for national independence, cooperation for peace against war and cooperation for reunification and patriotism -- under the patriotic slogan "Let us not allow the U.S. forces to stay in south Korea more than six decades!"

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday dedicates an article to the 12th anniversary of the publication of leader Kim Jong Il's famous work "Abuses of Socialism Are Intolerable". The work was made public at a time when the imperialists and renegades to socialism were maneuvering more viciously than ever before to demolish the people's confidence in socialism, vilifying it as "totalitarian", "barracks-like" and "administrative and commanding".
In the work Kim Jong Il clearly expounds questions of principle arising in defending the cause of socialism and carrying it to accomplishment such as cherishing socialism as faith and morality and highly displaying the advantage of socialism, thus inspiring the world revolutionary people with the conviction of the sure victory of socialism.
Noting that the work serves as a great banner encouraging the people in their endeavors to defend and glorify socialism as it elucidates the most scientific and revolutionary ideas and theories, the author goes on:
The socialist idea of Juche indicates that socialism is the most advanced society where the popular masses are the master of everything and everything serves them and is developed by their united strength.
The sagacity of Kim Jong Il's leadership in defending the socialist cause lies in that he has developed socialist idea in depth with his energetic ideological and theoretical activities and made the army and the people of the DPRK cherish faith in socialism as their scientific outlook on the world.
His immortal famous works including "Socialism Is a Science" and "Giving Priority to Ideological Work Is Essential for Accomplishing Socialism" provided encyclopedic guidelines that give flawless answers to new theoretical and practical questions arising in defending the socialist cause.
The sagaciousness of his leadership in defending the socialist cause lies in that he has trained the army and the people of the DPRK into those strong in ideology and faith.
Now the Korean People's Army has grown to be an army strong in ideology and faith and all the people, following its idea and traits, are highly displaying patriotic devotion for the prosperity of the socialist motherland. This is a brilliant result of his immortal Songun revolutionary leadership.

Abe's Political Hysterics Flayed

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Acting Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Abe these days never opens his mouth without blustering about "economic sanctions against north Korea." Prowling about here and there, he let out a long string of rubbish, blaring "it is time now we applied economic sanctions" and that "a climate for the introduction of economic sanctions against north Korea is ready". And, as if it were not enough, he cried that "economic sanctions should be imposed on north Korea at once." Commenting on this, Minju Joson analyst Tuesday says:
This torrential jargon of Abe is a venomous vituperation that can only roll off the tongues of those who are steeped to the marrow with hostile feelings against the DPRK and consciousness of toeing the U.S. line.
Abe's habitual anti-DPRK hysteria is intended to win popularity for gratifying his political ambition.
The ultra-right conservative forces are now swaggering about in Japan. They are openly crying for the revival of militarism and overseas expansion, undisguisedly revealing their scheme to stage a comeback to Korea. It is the crafty calculation of Abe, a political charlatan, that his political purpose can be attained only when he wins popularity among the ultra-right conservative forces. Due to the moves of those like Abe, the relations between the DPRK and Japan are pressing toward the worst phase of confrontation against the desire and demand of the people of the two countries.
Not only once have we warned against the malicious anti-DPRK maneuvers of Abe and other ultra-right conservatives of Japan.
In disregard of our repeated warnings, however, they persist in their hostile acts towards the DPRK, putting more punch into them.
They should act with discretion before it is too late, pondering over the catastrophic consequences of their malicious hostile moves against the DPRK.

Children Enjoy Winter Folk Amusements

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- After a heavy snowfall in most parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea several days ago, children have enjoyed such winter folk amusements as sledding, top spinning, snowball fight and kite flying. A historical record says that as much snow fell in areas north of Kilju, Hamgyong Province in the early 15th century to block roads, food was transported by sledges to save people and cows. It proves that sledges had long since been used in the country. The top spinning, which was disseminated in the period of the Three Kingdoms, is still what children like to play in winter.
Through winter folk amusements, they are training their bodies and minds and deepening their knowledge of folk customs.

National Classic "Nonggajipsong"

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- The national classic "Nonggajipsong" is a valuable cultural asset which contains good experience created in the working life of the Korean people. The book is a collection dealing with farming methods and agriculture-related issues in the first period of the Ri Dynasty when agriculture was the mainstay of the economy.
It, compiled by Sin Suk (1600-1661) in 1655, contains the already written agricultural books "Nongsajiksol," "Kumyangjaprok" and "Kwonnonggyomun" of King Sejong.
"Nongsajiksol" is one of the oldest agricultural books in the Ri Dynasty.
It was written by Jong Cho and others in 1429 at the instruction of King Sejong for the purpose of generalizing farming methods and experience suitable for the climate of the country at that time. It introduces in detail farming methods--preparation and treatment of seeds, plowing and cultivation of grain and cash crops such as bean, rice, millet, barnyard grass, green gram, wheat, barley, sesame and cotton.
"Kumyangjaprok" introduces the farming methods and experience and life of peasants in Kumchon, Kyonggi Province and its surrounding areas in the middle of the 15th century.
It consists of five parts--farmhouse, stories about farming, answer of farmer, analysis of winds and crops and their right soil--and a collection of farmers' songs.
It is a valuable agricultural book introducing the then farming methods and technology.
As it contains farming methods and rich experience suited to the climate and actual conditions in the Ri Dynasty period, "Nonggajipsong" had a great influence on the development of agriculture at that time and in the later period. The book is a precious cultural heritage which shows the long history of agriculture of the nation

S. Korean Army Accused of Opening Fire at North Side

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- South Korean army fired a machine gun at a post of the north side in the area near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) on Feb. 28, according to military sources. At around 19: 50 that day south Korean soldiers at a MP post near Marker No. 0916 of the MDL in the eastern sector of the front fired two large-calibre machine gun bullets toward the north side.
This posed a grave threat to the lives of soldiers of the Korean People's Army who were on their routine sentry duty.
The gun-fire, timing to coincide with the incessant infiltration of warships into the waters of the north side in the West Sea of Korea, escalating military tension, goes to clearly prove that the south Korean military authorities are deliberately scheming to aggravate the inter-Korean relations, pursuant to the U.S. imperialists' vicious hostile policy toward the DPRK.
If the south Korean army keep perpetrating one reckless military provocation after another they will never evade a counterstrike of the Korean People's Army.
The south Korean military authorities should apologize to the north side for their recent gun-fire, promise to prevent recurrence of such incident and punish those responsible.
